    Hey Vince, I know this video is quite a bit old at this point, but literally have the same phone and head unit as you, only thing I can get is video to work. It obviously plays audio as well since I can stream music through it, however, there is no touch feature, which is essentially the main reason for the device.
    I currently have my M8 rooted with nV and granted SU to ARUnchained.
    I have the same adapter kit as you, I have the phone hooked up to the correct adapter which has the HDMI and USB running into it. The HDMI plugs straight into the head unit at the HDMI port, and the USB plugs into the USB dongle that is provided on the head unit.
    I had read somewhere in one of your comments that there are suppose to be multiple USB ports? If so, that is definitely not the case for my unit (yes, it is SPH DA110). I am honestly at a loss for words, really don't know what else there is besides trying another rootkit or possibly downgrading firmware in the radio?
    Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

    @Christopher. The usb that I used was the port on the back of the unit rather than the cable that was already present near the gps. I understand that one is mainly for updating the firmware and gives a lover voltage. Personally I just used a micro bypass rather than actually running the cables.

      thanks for the reply vince. managed to get everything working pretty much the same as your setup. i used the standard usb port for the mhl/hmdi adaptor. i also bought the cd-iu201n cable for the ipod functionality for a 30 pin ipod connection. this is where the pin usb connection is required to be used to allow the ipod to playback and have direct control. had my friend install in my car as some bits where tricky with it being a astra. he just soldered the brake cable to the earth wire. seems to have done the trick.

    Awesome video mate, helps a lot! I'm getting rid of my crappy iPhone, I was once anti Android but after all the crap Apple have produced recently, changing to the dark side! I've also got a Pioneer and the Apple software which tries talking to the unit is awful!
    Once the M8 arrives on Tuesday, where would you recommend to download all of the tweaks and rooting software?
    Ps. For any electrical goods, try using Caraudiosecurity, much better service and prices than halfrauds!

      If your new to rooting phones then you should use a walkthrough, something like this link to guide you through the process:
      htconeroot.com/htc-one-root/how-to-root-htc-one-m8/
      It can be a bit daunting but take a backup of the phone and its rom before you get going. Standard carrier roms are also available from HTC dev center at this link:
      www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads/P00
      You will need appRadio Unchained, I donwloaded this apk:
      www.mediafire.com/download/tq6udw3tewtuyll/arunchained0.15.apk

    Thanks for posting this. I have an HTC One M8 too and was considering getting an AppRadio. Did you have to do anything like a parking brake bypass or anything to get the mirroring to work while you drive?

    • @ridgezold7309

      I'D recommend getting a bypass. To just get rid of annoying messages.

    Great video Vince, looking at the appradio 4, going to probably do this setup with my m8 too. Did you install a gps antenna with your unit? I assume there is an antenna cable in the box? Hows the radio signal quality ?

    • @vinceb5985
      @vinceb5985  10 років тому

      Hi Mate, yes I did install the GPS antenna, the unit comes with one and your phone can pass off to that antenna to save battery, with android you can use an app called arinjector to use the unit gps rather than the phones.

    • @vinceb5985
      @vinceb5985  10 років тому

      Radio reception is also good on the unit, no complaints so far. Certainly better than my old unit.

    Hi Vince. I know this video is old now but I'm having a issue with the touch on my head unit not working. I read the comment and did what u told someone else by going into su security and enabling boot on start. I also have a HTC one m8

      +sergio anderson I had similar problems with a later build of ARUnchained. What version of that app are you running?

    • @madtrucker13
      @madtrucker13 9 років тому

      It was a beta version. I have the official version now and it works fine. Just wish my phone screen would time out and stay active on the app radio.

    • @vinceb5985

      Get yourself an app called task scheduler along with another called screen standby, you can schedule the screen to turn off when the mhl is plugged in or when the Bluetooth connects.

    Thanks for the reply. I'll give the Rooting a go later, but before hand, I'm struggling to find a suitable MHL connector. I purchased a Samsung one which doesn't work. I've been reading up a out 5 pin or 11 pin MHL adapaters,. Could you tell me which MHL adapter you're using and any idea whether it is a 5 or 11 pin?

    • @vinceb5985
      @vinceb5985  10 років тому

      Hey buddy, no problem. I will have a little look around and try to work out what my one is. I read a shed load of samsung related info (seems to be most of what is available out there on the web) and people seemed to get this running without that much issue. Ill see if I can dig you out a link.

    what was the site that you purchased the cable to provide video/power (USB/HDMI to your HTC)? I have a Samsung Note 3 so I am hoping this website would have something similar...I'm looking at the Kenwood DDX8901. Also did you find the on-board amp in your Pioneer sufficient to drive good quality sound? I have the Bose Surround Upgr pack with 10 speakers in my 911, so I have been thinking about bypassing the Bose amp and getting else?

    • @vinceb5985
      @vinceb5985  10 років тому

      The note requires a different adapter, I was reading on the net and came across a site apparently there is a samsung adapter that you use along with a standard usb cable. The pioneer cable will not work with the note. I think this is the one you need: www.mobilefun.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s5-s4-note-3-4-mhl-2-0-hdtv-hdmi-adapter-p38702.htm?referer=PLA&Bproducts&Bproducts¤cy=1&gclid=CjwKEAjww8eiBRCE7qvK9Z7W_DgSJABfOjf2hfqUnIxTnFsXdIx9vxQ_GhxRliSAKSby9YxBWN4aVBoC3ofw_wcB

    Hi Vince, I bought an appradio3 and have had a lot of trouble using it with my LG G2, ARU and slimport so am going to upgrade to the HTC One m8 I think having seen this!
    Which custom launcher is it you are using?
    Did you need to change anything to get it to connect so quickly? It take ARU about 20 seconds to connect for me and I have to make sure the phone is plugged in before switching the appradio on.

    • @vinceb5985
      @vinceb5985  9 років тому

      Glad to be some help. The custom launcher that I am using is called Apex launcher, it allows you to scale things better when the phone is in landscape adding more rows/columns and scaling icons. It just works better than HTC's sence standard launcher.
      I didn't change anything to get it connect so quickly, although I do run AR unchained as a service, giving it access to boot time supersu rights. This means I don't have to launch the appradio app and get things connected, its ready to go the second that the phone is booted and connected to bluetooth.
      I have had a look at the G2's specs and there doesn't seem to be all that much of a hardware difference between it and the M8 so I guess the speed of the phones hardware shouldn't be an issue. I did have some teething issues and spent a few weeks messing about though.

    • @Jalopy1
      @Jalopy1 9 років тому

      Thanks for the answer. The G2 uses a slimport adapter rather than MHL, and suffered from lots of screen cut out and snow even with the official adapter. Apparently MHL just works a lot more reliably. I bought the official Pioneer adapter too to be sure.
      I have ARU set to start on boot but even so it takes about 20 seconds with the app icon showing it is syncing before it cuts to the phone screen, and then it shows just a blank desktop screen with a home and back button that doesn't respond. I have to press the power button on the phone a couple of times and swipe unlock the screen before it does anything which is a bit annoying even with no security setting switched on. I tried using different lauchers such as Nova an Apex and it doesn't make much difference.

    I have an appraido 2 and htc one m8
    What type of connectors/cables will I need specifically?

    • @vinceb5985

      This is the kit that comes with all the required cables:
      www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/25/299/301/CD-AH200/page.html
      It is basically Pioneers own MHL adapter.

    Which adapter did you use, can you send an amazon link? how is it wired? do you know if this will work with a moto x 2014? thanks so much in advance

    • @vinceb5985
      @vinceb5985  10 років тому

      HI there, I have had a look and can't find any people that have confirmed it working with the moto x 2014, but in theory, it runs android, is mhl compatible so there is no reason it shouldn't work, the adapter I am using is this one: www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/25/299/301/CD-AH200/page.html - I can see this on amazon but for some reason the pics don't show the full kit.
      Wiring for it is simply hdmi into the back of the unit and into the back of the adapter. Then there are a couple of usb's off of the back, plug one of these (can't remember which one but it is a certain one) into the back of the mhl adapter. then route both of these to somewhere for the phone.

      @DerekMacDonald82 10 років тому

      Vince B Is the USB just used for power? Could I theoretically plug the HDMI into the adapter, then the adapter into the phone... and then route the usb micro input into a cigarette lighter?

    • @vinceb5985
      @vinceb5985  9 років тому

      ***** Hello mate, sorry I missed this message. There are two usb's on the unit and one is specifically to provide power to the adapter. There is no reason that you can't route cables as you suggest.
