While Apple Maps does have it, Google Maps shows speed traps, etc, more often and stays on screen longer. My go-to is Apple Maps but when I have my sister in the passenger seat, she likes Google Maps and will have it open on her phone while I have CarPlay showing Apple Maps. It's surprising to me how much more info incl traffic alerts she gets from Google Maps.
I wish Google maps would allow you report wrong driving directions when they happen. Sometimes it suggests illegal turns or even some nonsensical things like making a U turn in the middle of a city block! Haven't seen a way to report that.
I have this in my 2024 Cayenne since I got it in september last year. Never use it because it makes no sense when you can do it directly in the PCM menu.
Does anyone have a link to a video that explains the tech behind CarPlay. What does the back end communication between the iPhone and CarPlay? That would be very interesting.
@@CreachterZ carplay is basically mirroring your phone, it’s like having an app open on the background that is constantly refreshing, you just need a car that has the capability to "mirror" your phone to the car and with apps like the Porsche one everything is synced and running on your phone just changed the overlay so it looks better on the car screen, that’s like the basic concept of carplay.
@@osc2r177 I don't think so, because most carplays now have their own systems, and they can be used even if they are not connected to a mobile phone. You just need to give it a display screen. So I think it is more than just a mirror of the phone.
@@osc2r177 this is incorrect. CarPlay is its own ecosystem which is why there’s only a few CarPlay apps compared to iOS and macOS as it is heavily sandboxed.
There is a setting for “always dark mode” in CarPlay. I would check that and the specific app to see if it has an always dark mode for CarPlay that might have been switched on.
Chick-Fil-A has been there for at least a month. I partially used it but didn't complete an order. Will probably order soon, just to see what the experience is, particularly the payment experience.

I definitely download some of the apps I also updated my iPhone 14 Pro Max to the latest update iOS 18 then went to my Toyota 4Runner to plug in my phone to use the apps that you recommended to download and noticed that my phone app is not on CarPlay anymore. Is there any chance that you could let me know on what to do . I have did all the resets possible still no luck getting the phone app on my CarPlay. what the car does is just sync the output sound coming from you phone when playing music or audio files

Hi.. why is always in dark mode in my carplay ..i treid every thing but still in dark mode 😢
It should be in the settings on your dashboard - under display theres a switch for always dark. that or you always drive at night lol.

Apple Music FTW!!! Amazon Music is crap, even if it does come with your Prime. Also, Apple Maps has had incident/speed trap reporting for years.
I don't see the need for all these new streaming services when Spotify is flawless.
