One of my coworker asked about Switch since he was considering for his daughter. I told him new system is gonna come. He asked me when. I told him next year at some point. He told me that it is too much wait and he bought one. So every year kids arrive an age when they can have their own hand held console and people are just buying.
The OLED bundle at John Lewis makes the console itself effectively around £200 so if the new one is likely to be £350 minimum, it's a great deal (plus it's OLED). EDIT: it's gone back up £30 now
Similar thing happened to me, I told a person in my family that Switch 2 is coming and when they asked me when I immediately realized the thing won't come out until April or even June lol.
A big thing with the push for Mario IP awareness is due to the movie. Both diehard fans and casual audiences went to see the movie and might think that Mario can be found on PS, Xbox, or PC. The slogan “Home for Mario and Friends” is meant to bring brand awareness to Nintendo specifically, to lessen the stress of people mistaking Mario games being on other platforms
That reminded me of an old episode of Good Game Spawn Point episode where, during the viewer mail segment (I can't remember what it was called), someone wrote in asking if any Pokémon games were available on Xbox Game Pass.
My mom got me a Switch in 2020 as a gift for finishing high school. Back when it came out, I was still at the phase where I really wanted a WiiU, so between Switch and WiiU, I got the latter. Looking back, I made the right choice, as I can still play Wii games on it since my Wii died like 2 years later, and that way the Switch I got was the revised model with better battery life.
Minecraft does have local multiplayer, at least on the original switch version of Minecraft from 2018, I don't know for certain that the bedrock edition does

I have an original switch model from launch. It’s held up well but the health of battery has taken a significant hit. Recently I’ve found myself playing handheld while my wife watches Netflix. I really want the OLED screen and better battery life. So I may just pull the trigger this week and buy an OLED, even if the successor is on the horizon.
If you can afford both, an OLED would be fun to add to your collection. But if you get the OLED & can’t get the successor next year, I’d just wait until next year & save for the successor. Switch 2 will be the first generation I’m able to get at launch, there’s nothing like being part of a new console launch. But in particular Nintendo is just extra special.
Honestly I’m thinking about getting the upgrade but I think I’m gonna wait for the switch successor. What I think you should do on a budget that could potentially work is just buy the actual console itself for half the price and use the joycons from the original switch. You can realistically buy the oled screen for under $200
2:00 Minecraft… a solo experience? Minecraft is probably the second biggest multiplayer game behind Fortnite or maybe Roblox. While you can play Minecraft offline alone, Minecraft is probably played more split screen than not, and certainly more online with friends or on public servers than offline.

Out of curiosity, why buy an oled when you already have a lite? I would understand this decision if you want to wait till later in the switch 2 lifecycle, but it seems a bit wasteful to buy an oled switch, which only uses oled handheld just to replace it so quickly when you already have the lite.

As for the successor, I do plan to get it at launch or soon after, but who knows, it may be longer than that. Every console/handheld I've gotten has either been at the tail end of the generation, or several generation behind, so there is a chance I'll do the same with switch successor.
