Mandy Miller who played the little girl is a very versatile actress. I,ve seen her in a few films , went on wikipedia and she went to america aged 18yrs to be a live in nanny. Some years later she returned to the uk and lives a quiet life in the south of england. Seen richard o'Sullivan in a few films too and he was great in all of them.👍👏🙋♀️🇬🇧
Cy Endfield, the diector, and Sam Wannaker, the star, came to the UK to escape the House UnAmerican Activities Committee, which was attempting to purge 'Hollywood' of any left-leaning tendencies. The interiors for the film were shot at the small Brighton Film Studios. The sequence at the children's home was shot at St Anne's Home in Lansdowne Road, Hove.
The Right Wing has never stopped being a vicious bunch of liars, whose greed to have everything good to themselves, and determination not to share anything, has pervaded the US and other countries for far too long. As far as the rest of us go who are not Far Right, we don't want all of it, just our fair share. We want EVERYONE to have their fair share, but that's abhorent to the Right, so they hate us all with a passion. It amazes me how so many good people have always been blind to that, and some even remain so to this day! To keep us a Democracy, VOTE BLUE FOR KAMALA! You will lose Democracy totally if you don't! I know that sounds like hyerbole, but it's not! That ranting, raving, nutcase Trump is deadly serious in wanting to be a dictator, and he lies to you constantly. Can you really afford to vote AGAINST Democracy? At least with Kamala you KNOW there WILL be another election. With that erratic, criminal, liar Trump who knows what will happen? I'm too afraid to find out! I'M VOTING BLUE. 🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊🌊
Refreshing to see an American in a British film being cast as a bit of a loser for once as opposed to the usual all conquering hero. Nice to see the little boy survived living with the nuns too. We know this because he later starred in Man about the house:)
@@seglora7219 I do have a color version of it - it’s still pretty washed out and lo-resolution but it’s very much in color. I’d be happy to share it with you via Dropbox if you’re particularly a fan of the film. It’s definitely in better than your version here. (I have it because I’m an Andre Morell fan). :)
@@michaelmoricz8422 Many thanks for your offer but I think I will let the film stay in black and white.Perhaps southern coast England December ,when the film takes place is probably rather drab colours anyhow . Though I think the copyright has expired you always are a bit cautious about copyright strikes and making it too attractive in colour might get it unattended interest from copyright hunters.Anyhow many thanks again for your very generous offer.
@@seglora7219 When a copyright has expired, if somebody takes the negative or whatever and makes small changes to it, or restores it or colorizes it, they are allowed to copyright it intheir name. You probably already know that, but not everyone does. I learned that from TCM, Turner Classic Movies, about 15 years ago. They said that is why they can't show every really old movie, because some companies that have restored films won't sell the rights to show them all.
Truly, one of the most despicable characters in a screen story. George is not beyond any immoral act, without a shred of remorse or regret for the damage to others.
Cy Endfield never disappoints! Thanks for this wonderful film!

Richard O'Sullivan was a good little child actor.
Ratzo Rizzo MIDNIGHT COWBOY voice to a T√
Heartbreaker. 😢
Guy makes puppets but can't carefully open up a teddy bear and sew it back up.
Sam Wanamaker hat als Regisseur zwei Columbo Filme gedreht.
What has happened to the sound?
It is there but quality incl.the photo not the best.Subtitles might help.
Voice. Please.
This is actually a colour film!
I think the colour has been so degraded and hardly watchable as a colour film (as far as I am aware of)

I wonder who is the child actor who played Katie?
Mandy Miller
Not a happy tale but all too common
Wait on 24 years to get some answers from the father illwisher of my legal sons

Pardon.... the character, Nick, instead...the star, whoever he is.
