Oh, I loved this darling movie; exactly the right-blend of cute, whimsical, humorous, sweet and sentimental that I was craving! Thank-You so much for uploading it!!!
If you want another movie to put a smile on your face, see Peter Bogdonavich’s _What’s Up, Doctor?_ (1972). It is, in my opinion, the ultimate romantic screwball comedy with two extraordinarily popular dramatic leads playing against type filled with incredible comic actors who are at the top of their game.
I've never disliked any film featuring Monty Woolley, someone I would love to have known personally (along with his good friend, Cole Porter). Talk about CLASS.
Lol; this is hilarious! Anyone else recognize the Dinner Guest ‘Kitty’??? The Actress also played ‘Mrs Howell’ on Giligan’s Island, sometime later! …(Guess that was Her signature style!) 😄😉🥳
@@francesfarmer736, that’s the sign of a great actress. The audience is unable to separate the character from the real person. Unfortunately,, she was typecast at an early stage in her career. It may mean steady work, but a dreadful career. Having to play the same part repeatedly is to an actor what finding that every patient you examine turns out to have a cold, day after day, year after year. Any actor who relishes being typecast is considered a hack because your talent is based on your ability to transform into and play as many different characters and types of characters as possible (even if that’s within a single genre like comedy), not to having to play to type over and over again.
Could it be that motion pictures like "Molly and Me" act as a morality play when many people do not get their morality from religion. ? Good show. Understated comedy makes lecture on morality easy ti take. Why, oh why oh are not film like this done now. No CGI, or special effects just excellent acting.
Sadly, there just isn’t a sufficient market for them. The film industry is a capitalist industry and by decades it seeks to make as much money using as little money as possible. Today that means comic book inspired movies and similar ilk that are guaranteed to be box office gold. Even a “prestige picture,” such an “art house” film, is made to bolster a studio's perceived artistic integrity, is made to ultimately increase the studio’s profit margin. (And by the way, when I say “studio” I actually mean the large multinational conglomerate corporation which owns the studio. All film studios are just one asset owned and run by a much larger corporation.
Miss Schaefer did the pilot with the virtual assurance of her agent and reasonable belief that no one would ever see _Gilligan’s Island._ - a “once and done.” She’d get paid for a Hawaiian trip with only a few days of filming and not have to be bothered with it ever again. When she learned to her complete astonishment that the pilot had been picked up to be a series, she was devastated, only to see it produced for multiple seasons, not to mention the reruns, which have never been off the air. I’m sure the pay was good (hopefully, because none of the cast got any residuals or royalties), but she never wanted to be in it.
They cannot do them like that anymore : amusingly charming yet not frivolous, sentimental yet not to the point of queasiness, leaving the audience in a blissful glow, reconciled with life. Those were the times…
Though he looks younger, Roddy McDowall was 16, both at the time of filming and its release. I can’t imagine the stress and personal difficulties he must have experienced being a gay youth likely just beginning to deal with his sexuality. To be in such a public light and to have so few resources to guide or help you must have been a living hell for some time in the 1940s and the even more conservative 50s. It’s a testimony to his intelligence and fortitude that he was able to navigate such incredibly treacherous waters, both personally and professionally, with more than 270 film and television credits by the time of his death from lung cancer in 1998 at age 70.
Why would she even care? I'm a Christian and don't care. In fact, I watch all the Monty Woolley movies I can because he was such an entertaining actor. The problem with people today is that they always want others to know what they're doing sexually. Who cares what anyone does behind closed doors as long as the underaged aren't involved? Just don't shove it down our throats!
I’m recently blessed to discover the gifts and artistry of Gracie Fields. What a treat for my old age! I am charmed, happy and watching this for the third time. GLORY!
Gracie is just adorable in this!
This is one of my very favorite movies. Watched several times and still like it..beautiful movie
I love Monty Woolley and Gracie Fields! I had to chuckle at Natalie Schafer - she's played the "Lovey" role forever.
Anything with Monty Wooley in it is going to be good, hands down !
or Gracie Fields, just discovered her recently.
@@monjiaitaly, a national treasure.

My grandfather went to Yale with Monty Wooley. when I was a kid I thought I might get to meet him. "One day." unfortunately it was not to be.
@@dinastevenson7745 Yep, both Monty and Cole were Yale alumni.
What a lovely uplifting movie, it seamlessly blends comedy, music, charm and comedy. It would make a great series

Natalie Schaeffer 20 years before she became Mrs. Howell. Roddy McDowell in his teens.

Allen without Burns - who knew?
Hey! Walter Tetley's in this.
Gracie Fields is not Gracie Allen. I could say 'close but no cigar'. But it's not even close 😉
This was remade..lol
The very-well-connected Monty Woolley indulged in some 'rather special pleasures' of a homosexual kind: I wonder if Gracie knew.

Why bring that up?
Gay people in the theater? NO! lmao
Thanks. I did not know about this gossip.
Terrible terrible movie! The plot has more holes than a block of Swiss cheese and smells worse! What a waste of acting talent!
