These relics of Hermaeus Mora are powerful tomes of forbidden knowledge, granting the user immense power… if they don’t go insane. In this video we explain the powers and effects offered from each book, and help you to choose the option which best suits your character.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

How it worked out ?
I did this and I immediately became the ruler of the prison. Nothing is stopping you from just waltzing out. As if bound blade and iron flesh wasn't strong enough, I had a whole set of ebony on that butler.

@@pikaku42069 same my guy. But the cidina mine one is a fun quest to do, which you can mitigate my using bound weapons and the skin hardening spells anyways, but the butler would be useful in that quest like they were talking about lol.
companions insight is great for mages because if you use ice storm, fireball, chain lightning and others easily hurt your followers
William Graham I usually find that the master level lightning spell still harms allies and so does the Storm call shout
Still, mages have extremely limited damage dealing spells that don't threaten their melee allies. In vanilla, it's just Ice Shard, Firebolt, Lightning Bolt, and the cloak spells (which don't say they're selective but will only damage attacking enemies, despite everyone around Skyrim saying they look dangerous). Runes deal area damage even to the caster, the adept spells all deal area damage, and the expert spells are either extra-concentrated novice spells (which do area damage that has to be controlled) or throw walls of fire and ice all over the room, damaging anything that crosses it. And that isn't even counting the master spells, which I haven't used in ages and have only used once or twice anyway because impact is just so OP. Mods like the Lost Grimoire add a few more selections but mages are still extremely limited in safe options. Even using Conjuration for damage dealing isn't entirely safe, as atronachs who cast spells can still shoot companions in the back. I try really hard not to hit my companions, but their AI has them dancing back and forth in between me and the enemy and I hit them anyway. Because of this, I almost NEVER bring a companion, and find it tedious when I'm forced to, such as during Dawnguard. But at least in that case, she can never die, and my biggest worry is her AI bugging out and making her wait somewhere without warning. So this perk is a much needed ability that makes companions actually viable for the robe-wearing spellcasting mages who really don't want to be face to face with danger.
Its one of my favorites too but Storm Call still hurts your followers (Marcurio is well aware of this and has died multiple times)

The butler can be really usefull when wanting to gather materials for smithing such as dwemer scraps and ore. Also being able to switch out gear for different playstyles whenever you please can be nice
Especially useful for hybrid builds or enchanted items for special occasions. For example I have armour and jewlery that I wear specifically for crafting.
I think the butler is most useful for mages and hybrid mage builds who don't have a lot of stamina and find followers to be a liability. Like an illusion assasain. The butler has his specific niches that I use because of the charchters I play.
I just use the Realm Poltar from Ordinator’s alteration perk for gathering farmer stuff! I get like 700 weight worth of some, then teleport back to my house.
bruh, the butler was the only black book power I was actually pleased to get out of anything in all the books, having a bonus follower inventory that can't get lost is excellent since I love to foist unique or last gen weapons and armor onto my follower to maximize their battle potential as well as those things being generally the heaviest items in my inventory, meaning they fill up fast with very few items so as I collect books or food or ingredients or ores they can barely take anything and my inventory is regularly sitting at over 70% full at best
meanwhile with the dremora butler I can foist pretty much the entirety of the next heaviest category onto him and dramatically decrease my overall encumberance while still ensuring my follower is relatively optimized
This. I found Butler to be so useful. The merchant is near useless in my eyes since I always had more money than I knew what to do with.
@@GoldenSunAlex Haven't gotten to the Butler but, I imagine that the Butler would be more handy anyway. Especially due to most times you are selling to a Merchant you are going to buy from. Of course I do wish you could legitimately get both the Merchant and Butler through a conjuration spell as not only would that make sense but the drum seems out of place when compared to those options. Oh yeah I just checked. The Merchant is naturally disadvantages the player and you can't sell stolen items unless if you have the fence perk. 😂 "The Dremora Merchant buys items from the player for 9% less than normal merchants and sells for 25% more if player does not have Haggling Perk Rank 2 or higher."
The Sallow Regent is the best book for crafting specialists. The 10% bonus stacks as you make stronger potions, better Fortify Alchemy gear, and better Fortify Smithing gear and potions. Just make sure you switch the bonus - Seeker of Might, Sorcery or Shadow, to the appropriate bonus for the crafting skill you're currently using while in Solstheim.
Fudge Muppet you should know that with the secret of Arcana you can boost up your alteration to the max without barely having to do a thing

The black book that has the Dremora Butler - whatever it’s specifically called - is my favorite power. If I try to get too much weight on me at a time that slows my walking, I usually give a good amount of the items weighing me down to it, then go to one of my home destinations and put up whatever I want.

scholars insight is actually insane if you get it before you get the ogmha infinium as instead of 5 points to all skills in a tree you get 10, then swapping out to companion after :3
Dremora butler. 2,000g isn't a lot, you also don't talk about how long it takes the store to reset and the fact it's not effected by the master trader/investor perks. May not be effected by the gender based discount perk, and book power you mention earlier either.

Who the hell has speech to 60 by then without a resto pot glitch anyhow?
Speech is pretty easy to raise if you know where persuade/intimidate checks are, sell stuff, etc. Especially if you rest beforehand and use the proper stone. You can even train. Items with 0 value can even level it, they don't give a huge amount but it's still something. Also if you gain a point, exit the store menu and enter it again, think there's a cap on exp gain per transaction. You can always setup a speech check in Markarth, if you're going then buy a dwarven arrow and get a message from Calcelmo, when you go you can negotiate a better price.
My speech is 80 or something despite me never focusing on it. Comes from me selling everything I can get my hands on.
So if you're on a long quest and you need to lose inventory weight, you summon the merchant and sell. He runs out of gold pretty quickly and doesn't restore his gold like any other merchant. Once out of gold he is nearly pointless. If his gold refreshed everytime he was summoned, he would be the best.
The fact that it's so hard to tell which of those powers is the best really shows good design/balance.
All of them are at the very least great fun for some builds. As it should be.
For the Butler in Cidhna Mine it's hard to justify in RP, it' useful but it's kind of a non first time playing, know what's coming next move. You know you are going to be arrested. Your character on the other hand. They expect to return to Eltrys. kind of they don't know whts going to happen so why give their get to the butler? A way arround it I guess could be to have him always carry a set of armour and a weapon. If you are making it yourself can be as good as your usual.. So your character is planning to always have access to a backup set of equipment. Also would help if you are disarmed ad can't find the weapon you were using. I hate when that happens lol.
and only the draugr have the ability to disarm you x_x
I wonder; by spending dragon souls in these books to gain perks, i think these souls are being fed to Herma Mora.
Think about it, we essentially become his new champion after killing Miraak, so by “giving” him dragon souls to gain black book perks, are we secretly giving him more power? What if he grows to be as powerful as Akatosh and decided to attack Nirn?
Somthings i discovered: Beserker rage gives you half damage so does secret of protection. Use both powers. 50 + 50 = 100 protection
If you have like alot of gems you can sell them all constently for 2 days to get unlimited money
Berserker rage and secret of protection will not equal to 100% damage resistance it’d be more like 75% ie. after berserker rage you have 50 resistance add on secret of protection it’ll take 50 percent out of the already applied resistance
Could you make a guide based on basically being a 'party leader'? Or basically, having as many minions as possible, including quest helper NPCs following you, or really ANYTHING that follows you permanently. This build would of course not complete certain quests to keep those 'quest NPC followers' at all times, which would be a really fun build to figure out all the essential quest NPCs that follow you and maybe also fight for you.
When you say active you mean passive. A once per-day that you have to ACTIVATE is active. a flat buff that is always on is passive.
Technically you're right but they're called "active effects" in the game.
You can enchant fortify (Magic school) 25% spell cost reduction four times making that school cost zero magica permanently. Granted you have to invest in enchanting perks but enchanting is so easy to level up and provide cash selling enchanted items its good for any character build. If you max out to 100 and get the extra enchantment perk you can have free casting for two schools of magic OR free casting for one and boost other stats like combat health or abilities on the same items.
I am definitely not the only one who knows this but with the Arcana power you can obtain infinite levels by picking up a item with telekinesis and fast traveling the no magika cost makes this method godly for leveling

When my mage has a companion, they're _always_ getting in the way, just like the citizenry; I can't understate how many times I was fighting a dragon when a guard turns around, locks me in a conversation to tell me I've committed crimes against Skyrim and her people, only to be cut down by the dragon _we_ were fighting moments ago before he can even finish his sentence. Companions are worse; I'm using fireballs? RUN STRAIGHT IN! *dies*
I just enjoy a war drum while I crush my enemies and hear the lamentation of their women.

One of the things that helps for a lower level on legendary is to summon a wolf and slay it with a conjured sword. Do it over and over again for free levels using only mage. Conjuring and 1 handed exp for days.
I use the butler one because I love to collect Dwemer bowls and stuff. It just sucks that his carry weight is garbage.

Moras grasp is well solid for sneak attacks because you can freeze the people who can see you and get past them

The Dremora Butler is better if you want to maximise profit from looting. The Dremora Merchant doesn't have enough gold to purchase 248 carryweight worth of high-value items like jewelry or even unenchanted glass and ebony gear, and he doesn't get more gold for two days. (BTW, his buy and sell prices are actually worse than regular merchants and he ignores Speech perks.) Basically do you want 248 extra carryweight all the time, or do you want to sell stuff for 2000 gold every two days? I think the real benefit of the Dremora Merchant is that he can sell you Daedric items when you're a high enough level. EDIT: UESP says the Butler only carries 148, which isn't as great, but you can still carry way more than 2000 septims worth of loot.
I m not saying you are wrong abut secret of arcana but with telekinesis spell it can be a game changer when you want level up alteration fast
Lol that free spell power is pretty awesome for a warrior. All of the sudden you could be a warrior and cast ebonyflesh, summon a dremora lord and heal yourself still being a pure warrior, thats broken haha

I like the merchant the most cuz I can buy an item off of him and then sell all of my stuff that I'm carrying because of usually doesn't have enough money but I get a piece of Daedric in the process I turn around and sell it to cuz I can make them lol fun video

I think Mora’s Grasp is amazing because I don’t have to tell Lydia to wait three rooms away from a boss battle after watching her die for the third time.
I've noticed a few changes in the VR version. First on the last book the hallway didn't curve left, just straight shot to the decision at the end. And second is Dremora Merchant seems to be a once a day power now.

The butler is way more useful for the way I play. Not only can I give items I want to sell later, I can give him sets of armour to carry so that if I want to have 0% destruction magicka cost, I can just switch out instantly. I also collect any and all unique items which I'm sure isn't unusual so
I recommend the butler over the merchant 9 times out of 10, expecially for late game. Selling items becomes useless late game as the gold you've picked up covers all costs, unless you're trying to buy and build all houses in the game, but even then, the exploits available are so abundant, selling becomes useless. All in all, Idk if I've disagreed with any piece of advice more :(

My issue with the Dremora Butler is that his supply of gold is broken. I'll often reload a save for roleplaying reasons and his inventory will have reset, but not his gold. I think it's caused by saving after bartering. So don't do that.

I love this video and your others! My character's roleplay is that of a khajiit version of talos. Effectively, a god in mortal flesh. I use the butler to carry gold ingots, black soul gems, a couple of unique OP weapons like Zephyr, expensive ass potions and some disease cures. I dont carry anything on my character, even though he has infinite carry weight. lol. just wanted to stick up for my butler, as he does carry everything i would need in town or if im feeling like someone deserves a certain type of death. I usually summon my weapons but sometimes, like when im trying to shoot apples from the sky (via telekinesis), i need Zephyr. the butler is great if you play a character that cannot be bothered to carry their own things. cx

The first black book from the mine investigation, I chose the book that my spells and weapons NOT to do any damage to my followers but there must be a glitch cause they do get damaged. My follower accidentally step in front of my fireballs and got incinerated to ashes... lol.
my main skyrim character is a thief who uses supplementary magic so i love the thief based powers & dremora butler! xD i have him keep important items i cant be bothered with lol an extra lockpick (have the ubreakable lockpick perk so only need one on me), black star. white phial, nightingal gear for when i wanna be all badass in a dungeon, enhanced carry weight boots, ehanced smithing/enchanting/alchemy armguards etc its fine he doesnt fight if i want to summon something to fight w/me i can just summon the poison tentacles, a daedra, dremora lord, wolf familar or ash guardian or just oppurntunistically use the ritual stone power to ressurect corpses i just slaughtered! xD the companions insight power is really useful for me becuase prior to this I'd accidently keep killing my follower lol i mainly use Janessa becuase i can steal things etc & she wont tell on me plus she dual wields & is a dark elf my favorite ES race!
Tbh the only time I use unrelenting shout is when it’s the only shout I have xD
I use Marked for death and Soul Tear. Also a warrior can’t cast invisibility because their illusion skill is too low (needs 75)
You _can_ cast invisibility, but the magicka cost without the Master perk is through the roof.
I would use the companion boosting effect so i can Unrelenting Force them out of the way without hurting them
sallow regents the most powerful thing in the game tbh. with it, i was able to condense free spells with just 3 enchantments. even just 2 will greatly reduce my spells(70% less)

Considering most players use enchanting to reduce the magicka cost of their two most used schools of magic down to 0, I'd personally rank Secret of Arcana last. Yes, high DPS characters who rely on power attacks tend to have tons of stamina, but it's still a limited amount. When you can lower magicka costs to literally nothing it just seems to lose by a landslide in my opinion.
Can't you mix berserker rage and secret of strength before turning into a werewolf before becoming an indestructible mad envoy of Hircine for 30s?

You're wrong about butler being worst than merchant. I keep everything til I Smith it to gain Smithing level ups. I am 3 times legendary bc I keep everything to Smith before I sell it.
The secret of arcana is way better.. that power alows you to use spells that you cant cast normally.. you can cast any spell in the game that you have learned even if its above your level etc. You can spam it and eventually get 100 for destruction and the other schools of magic.. its crazy

I wish you didn’t have to be lvl 48 to buy daedric cause the way smithing is I can craft everything by like lvl 16 and that’s only cause you lvl up that much from getting 100 smithing. It’s like the first thing I do in every play through

I could never get the fire wyrm power to work in my game :/ it always just summoned a non hostile Riekling instead
Lover's Insight is actually insanely overpowered if you play a female character since everything in Skyrim that isn't specifically coded to be female is male (with very few exeptions like automatons, IIRC), meaning that your female character will deal 10% more damage to about 98% of all enemies, including all saber cats, bears, skeletons, draugr, falmer, dragons etc.
Is it bad that I didn't know about any of these except the perk one?
Well, those perks about shout aren't useful to me, i'm using mostly Marked for Death shout because it's doing easy win.
I collect unique items that i don't want to sell. Butler is objectively the best for this reason. Why would I carry all my deadric artifacts when I can have a magic summoned follower hold them?

I prefer the butler because I can sell for better prices with female merchants... But I think you will to get to a stage in the game where you have too much money and this would be too much of a hassle.

The spooky spectral ghost drum was always my go to choice. Also it is adorable, who doesn't want a ghost drum that follows you.
