I think John once made a livestream around this area and he accidentally found a "magic" clock. So cute! My mom is from Kochi and she's really enjoying these vids. Thanx, John and Kevin!
28:40 This vegetable is used in a sour soup. You peel or shave the green on the stalks out and then you cut them into thin diagonal pieces and put in the soup, usually a sour fish soup.
Great to see some of the old faces from old live streams Ruth and Hanah the summer she was your assistant with your live streams and sang a song on her last day with you it's always a pleasure seeing all of you together, and must not forget to mention Kevin too. having good friends is priceless!
1:14:00 That's commonly known as elephant ear stalk. Used mostly in soups as it can soak up the broth but still maintain its shape. The large leaves of this stalk resemble an ear of an elephant. In Vietnamese, it's called Bac Ha and used as an ingredient in Canh Chua.
The MasaTaco guy used to be a very sought after sound man at clubs around Los Angeles. While here he spent a lot of time patronizing and researching the local taco truck culture and their cuisine. He returned home and started MasaTaco.
omg i was randomly watching this video (i follow you but haven’t watched everything) and masacasa taco is my friend Masa’s taco stand!! I was so shocked to see it! I used to work with him when we toured with bands in america! he always made the best food and moved to japan to follow his dream. so crazy to see his stand on your channel
1:14:05 John, I think the long leaf stalk is called Colocasia Gigantea, the Vietnamese called them "Bạc Hà", the Vietnamese use them as vegetable in their sweet and sour soup, very popular in Vietnam. The leaves are very large and often called giant elephant ear. Cheers
Thank you so much John for always having a video ready for me to watch in my early mornings. I listen and watch them while I get ready for work. There once and calming and you have a good voice so your videos are very enjoyable. Thank you so much ❤😊.
It's so entertaining! I can't believe you made almost movie length video with only 1.3km long market!!! I grew up in Kochi not so far from this Sunday market and of course haven't been there for 3 years! Thanks so much for this video John & Kevin, I will definitely come back to your channels again😃
Nothing like hot ginger and honey in cold weather. They probably give the raw fish a quick dip in ascorbic acid,(vita C). That and the fact its cold and fresh helps.
The sweet potato tempura is amazing. We were lucky enough to head to Kochi in February 2020 (to see a couple bands play) and the next morning was this market. I vaguely remembered the old episode about this and it was better than that video! The knife vendor where Kevin bought a knife - we got one too and it's our favourite knife!
Thanks for the video. Kochi is a special place especially the Sunday market. Looking forward eating the katsuo gyoza and potatoes and buying the whale knife. Hope to go when foreigners can visit Japan. Always a joy watching you and Kevin and "John's Angels" going on an adventure.
This video clip really opens my eyes to the excellent food safety in Japan. In other parts of the world, many people still prudentially choose street food for their good health : )
Hi John, this is just a guess but at 3:02 I think those are called Shogi boards. I learned this from watching March Comes In Like A Lion anime lol Great video, Please keep up the great work :)
I live in Sacramento, which is the sister city of Matsuyama. I used to live east of the city of Kochi, which is the sister city of another place in California's Central Valley: Fresno. The Sunday market is a big example of why the cities are twinned: a lot of fresh produce comes out of both of these cities' regions.
That whale knife is so cool. Also I've eaten that negi looking thing in hotpot before (still dont know what it's called 😂). It looks like a sponge and soaked up so much of the broth. Tastes great
so much to take in. just want to jump into the screen. amazing produce so fresh and colourful. Kanae would have loved this trip. beautiful pit bulls, family have these 'puppies' they all mashmallows gentle giants. hope you resolve the lost iphone sorted with Apple. you are right dont haggle, the lady is selling sharp instruments. enjoyed every minute thank you.
Keep Fighting apple John. They shipped my son’s Airpods to our old address. New owner signed for it and kept them. Took me an hour to explain that was their issue. They eventually sent out replacements. In your case they broke “chain of custody”.
Interesting stream guys!!!👍🏻 Bonito and gyoza 🥟 really home made fantastic!!!! And them Takoyaki 🐙 were cool!!!! P.s keep us updated about apple john!!!! 😮☹️
I want that dark brown wooden handle knife.. I pay you in advance , send it to me please. I sent you some stuff from gift shop from where I am... If you interested John..

Ruth Jarman, she has a regular program on NHK world. When she smiles during the show, she has this goofy looks that’s kind a hard to describe.

Love when you are both sharing food adventures
Love this duo of John & Kevin, awesome market place.
This was great, John! Loved all the different foods you and Kevin tried out. Thank you for taking us along!

Used it last night to cut some Emmental. It's wonderful. Now sitting on display. Looks so cool.
I think the biggest in Japan is the Aomori morning market, but the one in Kochi is really awesome too.
Good morning from Anadarko,Oklahoma!😎 Love your live stream A’HO ( Thank You 😊 ).
Oh this may have to be must see and do our next trip
Nice 👍 to see Hana‼️😊
Thank you for the information 🙏🙏🙏
Pine nuts are edible, used to make pesto of course. In old cones they'll mostly be rotten though.

I Liked the bread 🥯 hat 😀 that was cool John you got the biggest bit 🤣
Great video.
Can someone send me a link to Kevin's youtube channel, i never caught it when John mentioned it?

That could be too. I just assumed since the shop was nestled between a number of knife shops.

Next time you go to the Kochi market, fire Kevin and hire me! I won't eat breakfast and we can try everything.

Aha. Thank you for that.
hello Kevin n John
Hello 👋🤠
👍
Guy with red stick at cross walk beats you if your not wearing your mask.
I checked out Kevin's channel thinking he would have Japanese food, seeing as he has lived in Japan for so long. Sorry to say I was disappointed :(
That man was being walked by his dog
I want that dark brown wooden handle knife.. I pay you in advance , send it to me please. I sent you some stuff from gift shop from where I am... If you interested John..
Is she with you?
I thought she was with you? 😀😇😂
The masks ruin it
Unfortunately, they really muffle sounds. Since John was holding the camera, I often couldn't get close enough to the mic.
