i never knew the japanese olympics was on till i saw you and john anyway i forgot it might have been on tv as i dont watch tv but yes it was on from 11 20am on bbc1 im sad as i missed the opening ceremony
Loved this walking tour checking out coffee spots. I recently heard of a vending machine in Haneda Airport that does those special portrait style lattes. I wonder how popular those types of coffee are in Japan. Thank you for taking us on your adventures, John!
Yeh totally so sad all the old skool ma and pa places are all closing down really upsetting to see and hear about by the time we all get to come back there will be so many big chains!! Hope they can still hold on!!!🙏 thanks for the tour!
Salt? Like Gatorade I suppose.. 😁 Or Pocari Sweat.. I remember looking over hotels in this area, among others nearby, and wondering what it was like. I guess back then these not so famous areas seemed more of a black hole and I wondered if staying there would be a good idea.
I wonder if there were current or former naval personnel in the area during/after the war. That would explain the curry. Maybe they went to college in the area after the war or something. Maybe ex-naval cartographers got jobs at publishing houses.
It’s noon somewhere 🍺 John, that apartment building does look sharp from the outside. See if you can get permission to record a tour of a couple of the units in there.
Ah, Demolition Man (1993) is starting to become true! In the end, only TACO BELL will be left. It’s time to give in and just - get a crunch wrap supreme 😋!!
We love this chill introduction to the lesser known streets of Tokyo! Can't wait to to see you explore other areas!
Not a secret anymore Daub-san! Nice going. 😈🎉
🤣🤣
Do a podcast together. Work it out😎
😆😆😆😆😆

Interesting to see 海南鸡饭 in Japan @23:10
It’s hainanese chicken rice! It’s our staple in Singapore!
12:35 what’s the name of the small place?. Thank you very much
Doing a mini curry tour in that area is a must! Lots of guitar and music shops there as well. Definitely a college district!
Thought I'd flicked on UA-cam instead of bbc news before I went to work this morning at silly o clock !! Good interview, John!! 👍
Thanks, I wish I’d done better but I couldn’t see the interviewer, just hear her so I was a little nervous 😬 but it’s okay. Very fun experience!
First time I went to Tokyo I stayed in Jimbocho, loved the neighbourhood with all the book stores :)
Oh i would love to walk around these alleys and streets, time would fly. There wouldent be enough time to see it all.
Swissair used to stay at the Grand Palace Hotel in that area.(1988) I remember 🥰
Yes, sandals are the best shoes. Linus approves.
I live in Guam. I have 7 zories n 1 dress shoes
Hi, love the channel what happened to the classic intro for your videos?
Hope Japan will be open to tourism by April 2022, We have reservations. Thank you for sharing, your videos are very informative
It should be okay by then :)
Jinbocho seems like a good place to go to. I like like the Showa Era. The later half Anyway.
I agree John. I love older cafes. In every countries. I miss the dinners in the US. I'm a breakfast and sandwich person. 🙆💕☕🧝
3:27 no touch payment but still gotta touch the option button lol
John I'm sorry if this is not your thing but can you please show us good places to read and buy manga? I'm very interested.
Just saw British Coffee shop company ‘Costa’ in the alley way with the old fashioned shops. I didn’t know they were in Japan???
i love watching you. how long have you lived in japan? where are originly from??
@23:00 Hey, look at you Hainan Chicken place! (海南鶏飯 天鶏)
Hainan is a large island in the south of China. Hainan Chicken is popular in Singapore as well as people emigrated there.
Incidentally.. speaking of cafes - would anyone know where they filmed Cafe Funiculifunicula? That would be neat to visit.
Yeh totally so sad all the old skool ma and pa places are all closing down really upsetting to see and hear about by the time we all get to come back there will be so many big chains!! Hope they can still hold on!!!🙏 thanks for the tour!

You mentioned coffee and cafes so much, about a 1/3 the way thru I had to stop and make coffee.

Protect the alley !!
Call the fire department if there's old customers in the back smoking.. put it out with a fire hose.
Good BBC World interview John-San 👌
I wish I could talk more about travel in Japan 🇯🇵 but a fun experience!
I am rooting for you, arigatogozaimashita 🙏
You should do a video on a Japanese Coca-Cola factory
Lol I stayed in this area and didn’t go to any of these cafes… 😅 Of course we were out sightseeing all day.
You should invite Rick Steves to Tokyo and you can give HIM a tour hahaa.
😂
ACCEPT the Taco Bell John, now go and get a crunch wrap supreme =)
Ah, Demolition Man (1993) is starting to become true! In the end, only TACO BELL will be left. It’s time to give in and just - get a crunch wrap supreme 😋!!
I can actually see a very elegant Taco Bell ( like the one in the movie) in Tokyo, they would never be that clever here in So Cal =)
Amazing place. ✌️
I’m NOT FOR CHAINS, contrary to your thoughts on that.
I see you are in my neighborhood 😅
Love it here!! I’ll be baaaack!
Definitely my whole family caught the Covid 15 pounds, no lie John
The items in the windows are called darumas dolls. Hello John, from San Antonio, Texas USA.
Salam Eid Mubarak
There used to be a great tree right in front of that wooden one. Unfortunately it's been removed.
Nowadays You need to stay negative man. Because if you positive you will need to go into self isolation :P
