Note: the ONLY in JAPAN channel with the usual fun vibe is now here: ua-cam.com/users/johndaub I’ll be getting the word out the next couple months. Thanks for joining me in this night gyoza and street view walk in Kochi. Love this place!
Enjoying the walk! These convi stores are the best! Love Japan and all it offers! So Safe and the people are very respectful of others! I walked from a station to my hotel many times and it felt like I had the whole street to myself at night. The sushi I purchased from a take away spot was the best even the next day! Even the policemen were nice, I got a picture of them and their bikes...they were so handsome! The nights in Japan is amazingly lit up, another world...literally!
Yatai are some of the more interesting places to eat in Japan, you sit down with strangers and usually leave knowing their life story, we once got lucky in Fukuoka and found the yatai that a lot of chefs in the city eat at once their shift is finished. Met some real characters that night and went to some of their restaurants the following nights.
Japan (at least many parts of it) has such a peaceful vibe at midnight, even in cities. I really felt that on late night walks when I visited Tokyo last year. It was hard to explain. Looking forward to going back someday!
Digging this walk John, the lights, the color coordinated ones are nifty, green on the shrubs for example. But what is really cool is your stories and sense of humor. Have a great Christmas to you and Kanai😊. Love from Minnesota.
47:06 John talking about the special "Wasabi beef potatoe", I look at the "Winter assort KitKat", and all I think is: that could be a really tasty KitKat since the wasabi KitKat is one of the most surprising delicious one I had in a long time... and than realize, oh, it's about the potatoe chips!!... hah... haha jaja... who would do KitKat with such a flavour??? haha... ha... ohhh😂
I really enjoyed this nice walk around video. I always enjoy these types of videos from you. I do have to admit that when you kept talking about a ghost appearing in the distance, No Face from Spirited Away kept popping into my mind. LOL.
I love the fact that you also notice the 'manhole cover' I was baffled by every one of them. each city, town or village you go there are different ones with a story. Man I love japan, it's all about details!
A very cool night vibe, it’s unusual to see places open so late in Japan. The yatai here remind me of the food stalls you see in the night markets of other Asian cities. Good to see John in good spirits and not psychologically damaged by the earlier river dousing. John has definitely become a native, as someone who was from the northern part of the continental US he has forgotten how cold it can get in places like Ohio and the northeast.
That looks sooooo good. Crunchy Gyoza. I can't believe it's chilly down there. It's 0330 as I'm watching this, on vacation for this week leading to the Christmas holiday. Yeah, do take caution and take care. One note: We are flying to Sapporo to see my relative, lots of snow already - bad news; Yuki Matsuri has been cancelled for this coming February - sad - they said some of it will be on line from past festivals. Take care.
Thank you for taking us here, lovely city indeed! Fashionable, but friendly at the same time. I loved the creepy midnight vibe too! Especially 38:50 It was Kurobozu yokai :D Take care! :)
Fun Watching this John from last year. So funny when you gave those young guys money playing music. Here in the USA when you see that it usually means they are playing for money but I thought for a minute you were serious about the dog meat, Funny 😄 .
I love your night walk, seeing empty road and food stall/restaurant in japan at night (most youtuber films video at rush hour), a very rare sight for us non japanese
I love a good crunchy gyoza. I used to be a flight attendant for NWA and on my Narita layover it was mandatory to pick up an order of gyoza at the little take out place in the airport before getting on the the plane and stink up the place with all the garlic!!
Yatais are the best it was one of my first memorys going out to eat so simple and few sakes with friends so so good i hope they stay around and not disappear!!!🙏
Went in January 2019, pretty cold and light rain the week and a half we went. It felt really nice and calming weirdly enough though. Hopet I can go back in a year or two
A little Rambalac influence going on in this video! The dark street with the red light reminded me of eerie dreams I have from time-to-time, where everything seems familiar but nothing is recognizable, and yet I know where I am. Rambalac with narration! Stop singing, John! Stop! STOP!!! I would love to see you run into Rambalac! Then we could see what he looks like, and he would be forced to finally say something, even if it is just "hello!"
Your intro was made by D'ART Shtajio ?? Oh my god dude that is so awesome! I had to do a small study on them this year and their reel is incredible. I can see why it took so long since they're working on massive projects like One Piece.
All your content creates a great framework from which I hope the japanese can renew their own view on a lot of interesting things that would pass unnoticed about their own country.
No where in Japan is dog 🐶 eaten. NO WHERE 😂 but people don’t know that so ... better clarify. It means a western holiday that helps marketing companies sell stuff - and eat cake 🎂
Thank God about the dog meat. I know in China dogs and cats aren't so lucky. Interesting about Christmas, makes me wonder why anyone recognizes it at all. Do they sell a lot during that time. Well, I guess they must to put up all the lights.
Yes John, even If it’s their original arrangement, it’s still copyrighted. The fees are fairly trivial if you’re doing a CD, but still enough to nail you.
Royalty free music is pretty creative. You can have the essence of the tune and be a different one and that’s fair. The world plays copyright music on the streets and doesn’t pay. Not sure if they’re the ones breaking the law or me for having it enter my live stream but I’m the one who gets dinged by just being there 😂
@@onlyinjapanGO Thst is a really complicated issue. For example, a hotel may have what is known as a site license, that covers their premesis. They pay a flat fee every year, and report the songs played so royalties can be distributed. A place like Yodobashi. Tower or an Idol shop has deals in place for cross promotion. Sometimes it’s obvious they don’t have permission, someone’s Yakitori place isn’t paying. What I suggest to you is to call JASRAC, who also manages aSCAp and BMI artists in Japan. My friend used to run an internet radio station, and it’s surprisingly affordable.
Good midnight stream , alleys and everything gives something into it , that whale manhole cover looked awesome 👍!!! And that bread pudding what you ate at the end of the stream looked so oishii 🍥, arigato !!!
It was good - Kanae rejected my gift of half because it won’t be edible after the plane ride 😂 true! I have to buy a new one. Fun times tonight!! Thanks for joining me in the adventure.
Yes John there are many parallels between Star Wars and Japan. George Lucas based it on Akira Kurosawa's "The Hidden Fortress" which is one of his best films. ✌️ 💖 🙏 Levent 🦁
In Kochi, not a problem. Overhead is much lower and they definitely have hungry people until 3am. A lot of business takes place after hours and I saw many people coming with clients to talk more casually. Costs are low. 5 pieces for ¥500 and a beer was ¥600 for a 500ml bottle. I’m sure they do well :)
John, in Japan, are they OK with people walking or sitting in public drinking a beer or other adult beverage? Here in Toronto the cops freak out and write fines for doing it. Just curious if they're more adult over there.
It’s fine. Different situation here. What’s happening in each country is different. We do have a spike now but it seems to be peaking. Our state of emergency ended in May and hasn’t been renewed.
You don’t want to film people, doing what they shouldn’t be doing?Love your channel, but I don’t think you should be the one deciding what people can be doing, the hostess clubs are LEGAL By law, unless you decide what is morally right!
You cannot film strangers on the street without their permission and focus on them. That is the law, not What’s going on inside them Gregory. No one is saying anything g about morals. Take a step back and relax 😂

This is great, reminds me of being in Japan, its been a few years since I was in Japan. Missing all that wonderful food and drink
one reason why i love japan so much, its so clean. not a single trash on the ground.

What a peaceful vibe at Kochi! Another awesome midnight live stream, John.
thanks for the tour john and merry christmas to you and your family

I keep missing your live streams, looks like a great city to walk around at night. Cant wait to get to Japan again.
I enjoyed this stream SO MUCH. An awesome 'vibe' and like nothing else I've really seen on UA-cam. More night walks please!
This is great! My mom’s side is from Kochi. I used to spend my summers there!

I live for Johns live streams of Japan lol. Always interesting and beautiful there.

Now that I am learning a little Japanese I can listen to the words you say and write them in Google translate to find out what they are... so cool. :)

Hello to you, watching from Southern CA. I love gyoza!
Is the Japanese language hard to learn
All your content creates a great framework from which I hope the japanese can renew their own view on a lot of interesting things that would pass unnoticed about their own country.
How cold can it get during the Japan Winters..?
Gyoza is love, gyoza is life.
“except for the cold....and any possible crows” 🤣
I love to visit Japan. My next destination is Akita; to the shrine of 'Our Lady of Akita'❤️
Thank God you clarified the dog meat thing. I have a question, what does Christmas mean in Japan? I've gotten some conflicting stories on that.
No where in Japan is dog 🐶 eaten. NO WHERE 😂 but people don’t know that so ... better clarify. It means a western holiday that helps marketing companies sell stuff - and eat cake 🎂

Have fun walking around!
were the kanai cooking video go i was hoping to see that?
I remember Mikako Sensei from Sakamoto Samurai stream this past summer. Does she live in Kochi?

It ’s a very delicious dish.
I'm very hungry
At that late hour, do they have enough customers to cover the overhead? Maybe on the weekends.

@@onlyinjapanGO I saw your sushi breakfast video. I had sushi for breakfast at Tsukiji market before they changed location many years ago. Amazing!
At 36:00; Bonita Dance manhole cover.
India also have kochi in Kerala
Gyoza 👍😋
Pretty good Imperial March there chief :)
You just made me hungry for dumplings
17:08 😆👍❤
Could've been Grogu (baby Yoda) from the Mandalorian
I apologize for stepping on a Street Manhole Cover, 😂
I've played a bunch of Yakuza games and nothing good happens at night
😂 something good has to happen - for the Yzka?
Is it wrong to say should of just threw the coin at them because of social distancing 😂
The title is quite misleading; I was expecting nothing but Gyoza for 50 minutes but that's not the case at all!
Unfortunately, Yatai are a dying breed. Seen a couple up in Sapporo near Susukino but that was pre-COVID. About a year or so ago.

Kochi is the where people drink lots of sake.
👍👍
Its just like watching Alice in Borderland :D
Evil porcelain tongue. Lmao!
Honestly. Is UA-cam hard up for money. There is an ad every 5 minutes. Video is unwatchable.
Likes to enter a 7 11. Lol
Don't give up your day job for a singing career!
😂 haha! The situation is more important than the tune sometimes. I’ll stay away from composing music! Hahaha
John, seriously, you've been living in Japan too long! You're going Native! 🙄
