Anybody else start their period and be like "oh, that explains the last few days"?
Yes 💯
This is me. I’m 38 and I can tell what stage my cycle is in depending on my acne.
No,it’s me.I have 48 and i have same problem🤣😱
Ahh yes. The period pimple.
Same! 43 years old 😢
Same!!
Impaired barrier is highly relatable , i thought acne only happens just before periods, great to know it can happen on ovulation too
Is it my dream coming true? You are doing a hormone and acne series?!! I am so thankful to you Dr.Dray .I had severe hormonal acne issues from 2021 .No matter what I do my acne always get worse 15 days before my period .And now having OCP and progesterone pill with spironolactone and thyroid medication it still doesn't get resolved. No period from last 2 months as I had stress from exam. Please do more videos for woman with hormonal imbalance. How we can naturally balance out our monthly cycle
I'm struggling with acne when i was 17 now 26 , I took 2 short courses of accutane and antibiotics many times in past, my acne always came back and in 2022 it got the worst i ever had i couldn't start accutane due to other health issues and your videos motivated me alot to go for another course of accutane in june 2023, your vids helped me alot and alot in managing side effects unfortunately my derm couldn't help me much other than just writing medicines, i am about to end accutane and i going to start microneedling, i hope my scars go away soon and acne never comes back, forever grateful for ur content and help, u always replied me whenever i asked from you💗
I’ve tried all the Acne diets for My hormonal acne, The gluten-free low G.I. index, no dairy, no carbs, no sugar.. it’s made me so afraid of food. Gave me an eating disorder. I Went on isotretinoin it helped but it’s been a year since and it’s come back worse then before. Finding a good dermatologist has been a struggle. I wish I could go to you. 😢
Oh I feel so sorry for you...I've been struggling with acne for many years and believe me...if it's hormonal (mine is) it doesn't have anything to do with diet. I've been there. Don't be afraid of food. Accutane helps, I'm now on it but microdosing (maybe it would be a good soution for you too)and it will probably take a long time, like years and I've accepted it. I take 20mg weekly and it keeps my acne at bay. And, yes, acne comes back if I don't microdose.
Free diary, gluten etc diets don't help, just follow a healthy normal diet for your general health. Hope you can overcome your eating disorder. ❤
You probably have some kind of underlying health issue. I have Hashimotos which is a thyroid problem, and this means hormones fluctuate a lot and the body’s natural responses are slower.
@@marketmagus how did you figure out you have that?
How hormones plays a role in dark spots ? Recently read an article indicaying that estrogen spikes can create dark spot/ freckles
Happy Wednesday Dr. Dray! Please do an updated video on upf clothing and sun accessories! I enjoyed the video on how to lower cortisol.. much needed video!
Good idea 👍
In the meantime, you can check one Dr. Sam Ellis did. She talks about brands that Dr Dray hasn't necessarily talked about.
This is really helpful, thank you! It would also be great to have another version of this as to why we break out during ovulation
yay thank you for reverting back to the simple editing ♥️
Wow , you look so radiant Dr. DRAY!
This is such a great video for explaining just how many different factors go into acne (especially hormonal acne)! I also felt so validated when you mentioned there was actual evidence that petrolatum based products could be beneficial for acne, I’ve always found that to be the case for me personally (and also my skin has improved a LOT since switching to heavier creams rather than only sticking to very light gel textures).
Hi, your explanations are always so clear, I wish you were my professor in college:)
Thank you so much for making this video, I've noticed such a connection with my skin and my cycle. This has been so helpful please make more videos similar to this!! ❤
Happy Wednesday Dr Dray…see you tomorrow x💙🤩
Dealing with hormonal acne is so frustrating especially when you can’t tolerate birth control and spironolactone. I definitely break out more when I ovulate, am stressed or eat a lot of sugar/gluten. Moisturizer really does help! Thank you for deep diving into the menstrual cycle and providing resources for us 💕
Thanks for your video!
I have learned so much from you ❤️ how to take care of my skin. I’m currently on tretinoin and keep a simple routine to soothe my skin
Happy Wednesday Dr Dray so excited to be here I live for this ❤️
Morning!
@@DrDrayzday ❤
Greetings David Shabas hope u r well n Happy Wednesday😀👍💜….
@@whitneybrown4067 Happy Wednesday Whitney😀👍
My entire childhood and young adulthood, I actually did not even realize that acne treatment was covered by insurance and worthy of medical care because I thought it was considered cosmetic! Now I have permanent scarring. If only things like laser treatment were covered 😢. Now I’m looking at acutane as I’ve tried everything. I would do anything for the second half of my life to be free of thinking about my acne everyday.
I suffered with this in my younger years. I would get hideous breakouts every monh, right up until I went through menopause. I wish I videos like this had been available back then. Teen magazine wasn't helpful! Lol!! I know this will be helpful to your viewers. Happy Wednesday, Dr Dray! I hope you have a tranquil evening. 💙
Yay ! I just asked this thank you !!!
thank you, Dr. Dray 🥰 🙏
Thanks for watching!
Good Afternoon Dr Dray ❤
Morning!
I’m so happy for this video because I just asked her this question ! And she helped me clear my every day acne with other videos.. but she’s right I have thought oh shouldn’t bother a doctor over period breakouts 😂 but now that I’m over 30 it’s so awful to fight aging and acne ! So thankful for Dr dray she’s the G.O.A.T in my opinion.. I literally spent thousands of dollars from products and facials and then i started watching her videos and in a few weeks time had the clearest skin of my life and saved so much money doing it ! She has helped me clear skin save money .. and continue to learn so thank you Dr dray .. I think a lot of people do not realize what a mental health disruption it is to suffer from severe acne or other skin conditions..
Thank you for the super helpful and informative video! Is there anything we can do during/before our menstrual cycle to combat this hormonal acne, or is this something we just need to ride out and can't do much about?
Hello Dr. Dray . Happy Wednesday ❤❤❤
Morning!
I needed this so badly 😩
Thanks for watching
@@DrDrayzday and thank you for creating!
And with this video, I understand why using oral contraceptives help with acne. Thank you Dr Dray!
thank you so much for this detailed video 🩷
Thank you for this video!!! Super insightful!
Can you make a video for oily itchy scalp? I used to use the neutrogena T sal shampoo you recommended but it’s banned in my country :(
Thanks! I have a video on that
Yes! At 30 years old I went to a dermatologist with my acne. He explained it’s all about sex hormones. My eyebrows shot up and he proceeded to explain this just like Dr. Dray 💪🏻
“Remember, you’re not a rabbit”, lol 😂. Thank you for this great explanation & the laugh!
Please suggest good vitamin e cream and oil
Thank you so much Dr. Dray!! I’ve been noticing for past cycles that my body acne appears more around certain cycle phases. I also get some breakouts on my face around ovulation. Which feels counterproductive since ovulation is supposedly when we are more attractive to prepare for reproduction 🤭😂
I hope to figure out these hormonal fluctuations to improve overall health.
Greetings Dr Dray hope u r well n 🖐Hello Every1 n Happy Wednesday😀n what a Wonderful Vid…. thanks n This is Gonna b so Insightful🔥👍n Continued Blessings to All💜….
Happy Wednesday Whitney Brown. Have a great day and be well.

Happy Wednesday
Afternoon, thanks fir this video. My DIL dmstruggles with hormonal acne. Have a great day
You are so welcome!
do you need to use sunscreen once the sun has set?
I know this doesn’t apply to me because I am a boy but can I use a 10 percent bp face face at night along with clindamyacin and tretinoin. Or should I use a gental cleanser at night with tretinoin and use the bp cleanser in the morning along with clindamyacin lotion. FYI I have been using tretinoin, clindamyacin phosphate lotion, and doxycycline for 3 1/2 - 4 months. Thanks 🙏 😊
Hello dr dray and all! Im currently suffering from a flaky scalp (not dandruff). I made the mistake several weeks ago of shampooing my hair and not using conditioner. I have hard water and my scalp has been flaky ever since. Ive massages with coconut oil a few times but it doesn't seem to fix it. Any suggestions of what could help
I always read the ingredient list of every skincare product that i purchase but i simply don't point out a specific ingredient or ingredients that is or are harmful or irritating to the skin because each individual's skin is different and who knows how it will react to a product 😅 so instead of preaching stuff that we possess no knowledge of better consult a doctor who is dedicated for such things aka skin related problems/abnormalities 😊❤. Thanks Doctor for pointing us out the importance of knowledge possession and general awareness on topics such as these.
Thank you 💜
alisa vitti, woman code, the end. tried and tested!
I love her
I started to get acne at 38, really bad. Before my face was inmaculate. The use of masks during COVID caused me this and after 2 years using tretinoin got really better. I have minimum scars but the problem arises during my menstruation.
My issue is the dark spots that take very long to disappear and I’ve just gotten away from nuts 🥜 and make up and moisturizers because I think that makes my pores to get clocked.
What I don’t get rid off is my sunscreen that serves as moisturizer.
If I have a special event where I need to use makeup. I use tinted sunscreen and cream blush. That’s all and cleanse asap.
Think we need to observe and listen to our skin in order to pick a good rutile but first get a dermatologist to help you with initial treatment
Hi dr dray quick question i have a small with spot on my lips at the bottom i had it for over a year and it looks like a pimple and and it becomes a scab is there anything wrong it?
Can you do a video on diet and acne
i have a video on that
Sometimes the breakout of acne was a heads-up for me to alert me for the coming of mc especially it appeared in the areas that they weren't used to be
When I went to the doctor for period breakouts I was just told that was normal and sent on my way. It's funny the worse the breakout the worse the period.
Progesterone?
Do u get cystic acne?
I personally never had this happened to me but i always wonder how and why it happened during this time
Why are companies putting hyaluronic acid in their sunscreens? Isn't it contradictory? Hyaluronic acids are supposed to be applied on damp skin, contrary to sunscreens; will that make your skin dry?
What about breakouts when you are menopaused ? Where it comes from ?
Is there anything we can do to prevent hormonal acne? Like are there extra products we could use a week before our periods start? I already use lots of moisturizer, wash my face twice a day, and use Differin every night, which helps, just not around my period
Probably not. Your hormones will determine that.
I need this answered too. 😩
Check her other hormonal acne videos/shorts.
Same I want to know🥲
I also have the same problem, using differin really helps a lot in reducing the number of acnes popping up right before my period. I still get at least 1 big acne during that time. Now, i just accept it 😂
Just in time lmfao. But really a couple years back (early 20s) I suddenly got an unusual amount of acne and in areas I’d never had it before (on my cheeks and jawline vs before on my forehead and chin) and so I switched birth control. Id taken the prev one for years but my hormones had changed in my early 20s and needed a new one. Its so hormonal.
I've even been on accutane but the only thing that has EVER cleared my acne completely and given me normal looking radiant skin is the hormonal birth control combo pill !! But it also made me insanely depressed so i had to stop taking it :(( would love recommendations if anyone has delt with similar. I also suffer from ovarian cysts
Thanks Dr. Dray!! ❤
And no, I'm not a rabbit!
Thanks for watching
Is it normal for your skin to break out around ovulation? I feel like it's just as bad during that time for me! I just started spironolactone, so I'm hoping it will help 🤞
Commented too soon in the video 😅 got my answer - thank you Dr Dre!
I took accutane and I hardly have any pimples anymore except the week before my period when I get one or two.
Cystic acne on my chin and flared excema bumps on my wrist tell me my period is coming in a couple days. 🥴
There should be more than explained mechanism of acne formation because severe acne is so severe thatthe explained mechanism has some missing aspects. On the other habd İn menapose and post menapose severe acne continoues without loosiing anything from severity and frequency
Just turned 35 … had 2 babies ….. #1 pre Covid, #2 2022…. my face is like back in college sigh… and they’re always on the same area. The ones that bother me the most are on forehead, nose and ear 😢
Have a great Wednesday all
Happy Wednesday
I don't feel like this video was helpful for people who deal with this issue. Recommending to clean your face and moisturize to address hormonal acne is literally no different than what we are recommended to do on a daily basis anyway. So what can we do differently when we know we're going to be getting that influx of sebum etc.?
You could check her other videos/shorts on hormonal acne.
@@db-gb5xi Yes! Just what I was going to comment 👍
I see that she says Spearmint tea works
@jackieortiz316 ooooh, I have tried that before. I think I tried it consistently for 2 months, but unfortunately it didn't do anything for me. :(
I can only imagine how periods influence mental health fluctuations also.. It’s hard enough being male with certain issues
It’s so hard, I have the most dry skin and it’s sort of sensitive, but I’ve been struggling with quite a bit of acne more than usual. It’s confusing
I’m getting a painful pimple in my chin right new even tho I’m at the end of my cycle
Im 57 and get acne. So frustrating. I get more zits now than i did as a teen. I do see sebaceous filaments on my skin.
Do not feel alone! I’m in my 60s and still must deal with it. My dermatologist had done such a great job in my 30s. I didn’t think it would come back into my retirement years 😑
Suffered with hormonal acne for years from teens 'til menopause. Derm doctor rx was topical and oral antibiotics. Genetics be damned!
The thing is, most of us with this struggle have probably gone yo dermatologist time and time again. I have been going since I was 12 and I am 36 years hold now. We are tired of doctors who pretend they know what ia going on. How do you not know after literally a decade? You guys might know how it all happens but most of you dont know how to get to the root of things or really listen. I stopped going to derms last year because its a huge waste of money. I have improved more from my own experimentation than doctor's advice. It's sad.
💜💜💜
Happy Wednesday
Anyone had an epdermoid cyst? If so how was it treated?
My hormonal acne and cramps stopped when I stopped drinking dairy and used supplements by Clearstem !
Perimenopause acne is my problem 😢
My period acne stopped after I started birth control pills.. on the flipside, it turned my skin dry for some reason. I can't win..
The best thing I'e found for dry skin is squalane oil. Unlike hyaluronic acid, it also works in drier climates.
I was wondering why I broke out week earlier, but then i had my period 6 days earlier 😂
First and only time I saw a derm, he was so arrogant and just a douche. He asked 3 times if I had any areas of concern (moles, etc) when I kept saying I was there because of acne. He said “is that because you think you’re perfect?” I said uhhhh no, wouldn’t be here for my skin if I thought that…. Idk if he was drunk or what lol. Insane
This is another phase of my life I’m over.🥰
During menses, all of us is irritated lol
Thanks for the video, also gonna be helpful for trans men and nonbinary people!
Who cares? Only person with acne. I m tall, good looking, successful man, father who don't have problem have women which he choose and I would never degrade anyone with acne. It is last possible think to use against someone who has acne. On women is much more important personality, positive mind, heathly lifestyle, be famility-kids orientend, be happy from simple thing. I had lot of acne, so does Miss Colombia had some which I spend some time, so does my ex girlfriends and also my wife. And is far better look on your black/red/white spots in to mirror=care about your self, than waste time with asocial networks.
The audio quality is bad. There’s a sound humming and the voice is nasal and it echoes.
What if you’re a guy? ☹️
In other videos/shorts on hormonal acne, Dr Dray has said all types of acne are hormonal.
You have terrible audio.
Buy a microphone.
