imo no deviation is good for end game melee users wanting to get into hbg as something like the jho hbg as great as it is i wouldnt recommend with all its negatives esp since most ppl getting into hbg try to use it as an all around instead of a specialist set which can make it feel less fun and i think the music is decent, its not annoying and its not 2 bland(deaths stranding theme music has a similar sort of sound) regardless thats how i rate these sort of hbg's ofc its the best they have for now gj
one of the few monster hunter world content creators that remembers the pc version and actually talks about how a build can be adjusted for the pc. also love how he has (usually) 3 stages of builds early mid and late game (decos) vs other creators who just have one build setup and basically say"now socket your 10 rarity 8* decorations and 5 attack gems" -_-
I've almost exclusively played HBG on PC and I've got to say, I actually like the way the Shattercryst is built with the wyvernheart. I think the main issue is people come in with the assumption that this is a sniper rifle and that's what they want it to be. It's not. It's more like a semi-automatic assault rifle with an automatic mode. IMO the Shattercryst is the king of sustained DPS. When I play spread HBGs, there's a lot of times when the monster is too far to shoot so I end up having to reposition myself (during which I'm not actively pumping out damage). Not with the Shattercryst. No matter where the monster is, near or far, I can just point and shoot. The range allows you to hit from anywhere, the recoil is so low that you can shoot quickly/repeatedly, and the reload is so quick it barely interrupts your DPS. Slowly over time the damage builds up. And when the monster so happens to get knocked down, switch to full auto mode on their face for even more continued DPS. If you want a sniper rifle in the most accurate sense (high damage, one-shot-one-kill mentality), it's not the Shattercryst. I'd suggest the Griffon Blazooka in a focus/artillery/elementless build. Wyvernsnipe charges up pretty quick and the Griffon Blazooka has the strongest wyvernsnipe damage. In between snipes you can run around spamming wyvern ammo (i know, not very sniper-like), but once it's charged you've got yourself a sniper-rifle that can break multiple monster parts in one shot.
I actually like it to be honest. Its versatility, if you want to distance yourself it specializes in PA 3. When, let's say for example, its down or trapped, you can load Wyvernheart and unload it to cause massive damage, especially when you have an opening like that.
Deviljho patch came out in pc, so dark devourer is available on pc as well now. Legia HBG was the weapon I used for dealing with Xeno for the first time, when it becomes active its interior becomes a massive weakspot and you can constantly keep throwing it on the ground leaving it even more open for even more pierce shots.
I made this as my first level 8 weapon. Legia's weapons all have the same problem: low attack power next to any other level 8 weapon. They are pretty much the only game in town for easily accessible ice weapons. I like this HBG because it is crazy accurate and makes wyvernheart attacks actually hit the target.
Pretty good review! Shame that us over on PC won’t have Luna or KT for a while, but I’ve had some good fun with this gun - I actually really like the fact that it has Wyvernheart, because the zero deviation makes it really easy to rack up headshots, and machine gunning will ALWAYS feel great, even if Snipe may be better burst.
Pierce shots got a sorta downgrade in world, i feel it was changed just to let you see all those ticks of damage. In the last game pierce did only a few hits but the motion values for each tick is decently high, I mean pierce 1 hits only 3 times but has a motion value of 9 or 10, there are some co flirting data I see but it is one of those 2, but to top it off there are light bowguns that can rapid fire pierce lvl 1 shots, there may also be a few that can rapid lvl2, not sure about lvl3 having rapid though.
I built Baan Roar for pierce ammo because of higher raw when augmented, wyvernsnipe and better status ammo. I knew Legia Shattercryst was an incredible Pierce3 gun but I didn't know Ballistics was so useful for pierece ammo, so rigth now I'm thinking I should make some tweaks to my pierce set.
You dont need the tenderizer jewel you can go for a critical jewel and switch Rathalos beta for alpha that should give you three for both crit boost and weakness exploit. You should have same amount of slots. (I also have gala suit top hat alpha on)
I might build this if the special ammo is wyvernsnipe. But a sniper rifle shooting like a machine gun? No thanks. Seriously, what was the art designer thinking when he made the shattercryst look like a sniper rifle?
Just think of it as Selective Fire. The M-14 is a rifle that can be used to pick people off, but it's also capable of firing full auto. There's also the advantage of its zero deviation. Weapons with heavy deviation has the gun fire all over the place, with Zero deviation it's Wyvern Heart is super accurate with minimal adjustment needed

Few friends I know did not want to use Legia HBG for pierce 3. Why? It looks like a LBG. They absolutely want a `heavy` bowgun for piercing so they used others lol. We are playing on PC.

@TheGameconomist is there a good 'budget' hbg? I started the game using the hbg and once I got to high rank I felt like my damage output was pitiful. I'm 200 hours into the game and still haven't been able to get full stocks of the explosive ammo types so I was wondering if there is anything viable I can use in the meantime. As you more or less stated in the video, Pierce is so niche against monsters to be your dedicated ammo type. Is it really just explosive or use a different weapon?
Jagras hbg is a good starter bowgun that has alot of the important ammo type. Explosives aint the only way to go with hbg but one should really focus on an ammo type like lets say if you want normal shots you'd want the diablos hbg or if spread go with nergi hbg if your playing on pc that is
Well, if you want the most budget bowgun, go with a Normal Ammo 2 rapid fire build, bc you get free normal ammo 2 from the investigation chests. The best ones are: Taroth Support, Taroth Shot, Karma, and some that I probably have already forgotten, like empress ruin maybe.
lbgs are definitely budget. I might give them a serious try since the blast special is pretty fun. If only there was a rapid fire normal 3 gun. @Xuimma Sleeping Thanks for the suggestion. I had considered the Jagras before, but never gave it a chance. If I remember correctly, it has a massive spread clip. Wyvernheart/Spread + Impact Mantle could probably turn out fine till PC gets the Glutton since spread is cheap once you get a level 3 farm.
Life Is Balloons I was using the magda gemitus 1 and karma variants for high rank, they performed really well. Only issue is the explosive ammo as you said but, there should be a point in the story where you can gunpowder level 3.
After release of devil jho his lbg and hbg are both really good. If you have access to decent crit the nergi lbg rapid fire n2 is good with very good. If you dont have much crit go for karma good cc and decent n2 rapid fire damage. So is nergi his hbg for spread and pseudo sticky for kos in team fights. And of course magda gamitus 2 for cc and sticky and clusters.
Just so you know, you have one too many levels of Critical Eye, you have 8 and the maximum is 7. I use the same build, but instead I just use one Trueshot Jewel instead of one of your Expert Jewels, that way you gain increased damage on Wyvernheart :)
I using the Black diabos hbg for piercing for while, DD for cluster and nerg for spread,( i really love the Sniper shot )... so the legiana's is really the best option for whe poor Pc players, or i can wait for kulve, Luna? Thank you for the guide.

I don't see why you'd run so much affinity on this thing. I have a HBG shotgun I use to pressure monsters when I know they won't sit still for High Explosive abuse, but it uses only 30% affinity or so. Currently, with Fang Cannon, I have like 36%. And no crit boost because I run quick sheath, guard and health boost with the spread shot and stuff. My point? Why not some defenses or utility? It's not like pierce ammo perma stuns a monster, that's why Cluster Bombs are apparently mocked. If I had a pierce hbg, I'd aim more for an adaptation of my shotgun, but likely with different gauntlets. Anja's, sound about right. But I leave pierce to my LBG and Bow. They do it safer.
Cause of the mechanic of the pierce ammo that travel through the the body of the monster. In the long run affinity deal more damage than raw power, so its worth it to stack affinity + crit boost And if ur planing more aggresive build put the evade ext+evade window
With an attack focused build testing with a mind's eye player farming xeno for an entire day... it makes it easier to pull off higher DPS so yeah its more efficient, but definitely not mandatory.
Love the gun, hate the wyvernheart... like 99% of it's users. It can reliably unload about 2-3K damage per cycle. If it had snipe and not heart I would be able to amp that up to near 4K per cycle.
Wait-wait-wait-wait-wait... This... Is the build you're recommending? What gives? It looks horrible. I mean someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but... Isn't Maximum Might better than Critical Eye? For piercing bowguns it IS, and I'm so sure about that because most of the time you either only one roll to go out of the harm's way or just walk away! Also, no elementless? I'm not sure why... That's my build for example. It's not perfect because I lack some jems, but hey... Attack up 3 Weakness Exploit 3 Maximum Might 3 Windproof 2 (Rath Soul Coil alpha, can't get rid) Piercing Shots 1 Non-elemental Boost 1 Free Meal (gonna switch it for attack up 2, just realized my set has 2 free meal jems, lol) Tremor Resistance 1 Divine Blessing 1 Agitation 1 (last three skills I gonna switch for critical boost 2 by switching legs and getting jems)
I was wondering since I find that Wyvernsnipe is overall better for damage(Except against Kirin obviously). I mean, I feel kind of mean for picking on poor Bazelgeuse and doing over 1k damage with a single wyvernsnipe for instance.
Between the Legiana Piercing versus the BLAAZZOOOKA I saw a drop of 4 damage per tick for Piercing 1/2. On a side note I never knew that 1 and 2 do the same damage :o Also when I put on the piercing decoration versus Attack 3 I had an overall increase of 1 damage(Not worth the drop in damage for all the other ammo types I feel?). Sticky 1 and Wyvernfire Comparisons between the two: 2/26 39/156 for Legiana 2/34 50/207 for Blazooka --- Personally I'm loving the Radobaan gun for the Paralysis Sleep wombo combo(Apothecary mantle) when playing with others. Just trying to figure out the best solo gun that's not Spread. I really don't care much for spread :\
different guns for different hunts. Shatter just has far more ammo capacity making it the goto pierce gun on the PC. Rock the Magda if your going sticky Dark Devourer for cluser Blazooka for normal 3, good vs kirin and such Blazooka also for wyvern fire, same with teostras which has a capacity of 2 shots where blaz has 1 but the blaz does more damage.
Yar, thanks by the way to everyone for responding and being nice. It's my first Monster Hunter game and I'm still pretty scrubby. I keep building weapons non-stop(Up to 5 pages!) so I just like to understand how they all work and what makes certain ones better than others.
Element lbg have far higher n better dmg than this gun. In my opinion Use griffen bazooka or something i forgot the name for piercing built its more worth for the dmg n reduce time hunt.
Twas my first hbg before I moved into clust, its a fun gun but hits rather low and I still find it dumb that its a wyvernheart and not snipe, it looks like a sniper

Is damage the only thing that matters? Min maxing I mean? Is that all that's worth building for? I ask mainly because pierce damage through longer monsters is still very consistent if you build right so damage won't necessarily be low?
It really is very weak compared to the Empress Cannon Styx. That one has basically the same ammunition stats but comes with 30 more attack value, an extra 10% affinity, an extra large decoration slot and the spare shot skill. If the Shattercryst was a rarity 6 weapon like its stats would imply, then the extra augmentation slots would even things out. I think they threw it into rarity 8 because the rest of the Legiana weapons were there, but the those weapons come with a a very high ice element and white sharpness as standard.
No, one of the biggest mistakes made in the Monster Hunter community is building for damage and stacking only damage decorations and abilities. It leads to people complaining about monsters doing [insert behavior] when the solution is often just to modify your set slightly to nullify that particular issue.
Yes, getting good at dodging makes defensive skills mostly useless. It's why speedrunners finish hunts in sub 2minutes, they build as much crit and atk as possible and just don't get hit.
Minds Eye vastly improves your optimal range, the only time your out of the optimal range with Minds Eye is either your out of range and your doing no damage or your so close you can touch the monster. Minds Eye is super good for piece ammo.
I do believe it does. The armor build shown here is basically the easy way to get Minds Eye but you can get Minds Eye as a decoration but it's super rare and a pain in the ass to get from what I have seen.
@@coralld1163 Wew. So TLDR: it helps with bowguns (at least with HBGs, didn't test for LBGs) but not really with bows. I already actually have one jewel but I didn't think it was worth much since I mostly relied on close range coatings for damage anyway. Ended up swapping it for an element boost jewel. Also before posting this, I decided to try them out in the training area and I'm almost certain that it gives no extra critical range for bows. It does however let you get slightly closer before getting the yellow reticle, which I already knew from when I first started testing the jewel a few weeks ago. No extra critical range from afar on bows (tried both power and close range coatings) as far as I can tell. Now admittedly, I don't know much about bowguns and I've never used or built one. I used Taroth assault "blast" for my testing because it was one of the two rarity 8 HBGs I got from Kulve. And I don't know if piece ammo 1 or 2 have different critical ranges but I tested with both and it seems like it gives you slightly higher critical range for some reason but that makes no sense..? You can test it yoursealf just aim at the pillar standing next to the torch in the training room and you can see how miniscule the difference is. I'm not even sure if it's gonna be noticeable in a hunt, but then again as I said I don't know much about bowguns. Close up however, the difference is HUGE. Would definitely recommend it on a HBG pierce build.
@@bashkuch because i use evade extender 3, i use minds eye sometimes. That extra range for little to no damage penalty is really nice. Just depends on your playstyle. I use minds eye + evade extender combo especially when fighting tempered lunastra or deviljho. It allows me to avoid lunastras ridiculous aoe and range without having to use a weapon with a shield and can keep up my damage with minds eye
Gunlance is pretty easy to build for. If you're going for long shelling(Magda's GL) then you only need focus and artillery, rest can be whatever you personally want. For normal shelling(Royal Burst) it's artillery plus something like weakness exploit. Oh, and magazine for both obviously.
I second this idea!. Really looking forward to the Styx on pc. Pierce 3, spare shot, cluster bombs 1,2,3 and wyvern snipe. What's not to love? It might not be the best pierce gun cause of the 3 recoil mods needed but it looks so fun because of it's versatility. And ofc wyvern snipe > mashine gun on a pierce build.
Austin K Yeah, and I have a better build on PC. That only uses 3 sockets that you can farm for but aren't needed whatsoever. I prefer to look at speedrun builds posted before drachen, its a neat strategy for high damage builds.

Kushala Daora is a good monster to also use pierce. Used it against the arch tempered a clean 24 for each hit (5 hits usually).
Yeah I soloed Daora with this heavy bowgun, whit 3 shield mods.

I know probably no one will use this build but yoi can change the rathalos greaves with the azure starlord guards and you get 1 lvl of crit boost

Wyvernheart/Spread + Impact Mantle could probably turn out fine till PC gets the Glutton since spread is cheap once you get a level 3 farm.
Life Is Balloons I was using the magda gemitus 1 and karma variants for high rank, they performed really well. Only issue is the explosive ammo as you said but, there should be a point in the story where you can gunpowder level 3.
After release of devil jho his lbg and hbg are both really good. If you have access to decent crit the nergi lbg rapid fire n2 is good with very good. If you dont have much crit go for karma good cc and decent n2 rapid fire damage. So is nergi his hbg for spread and pseudo sticky for kos in team fights. And of course magda gamitus 2 for cc and sticky and clusters.
I think Vaal Hazak is a good target as well.
Vaal Hazak LOVES to use his breath attack if you're sniping at him from range.
I find him and the Lavasioth to be stupidly strong at sniping back.
Fire LBG is really competitive in my tests with pierce HBG. LBG has more mobility and far less damage drop-off points, so I prefer fire lbg on vaal.
quick question: is this build as viable as some cluster bomb build I see, or is it just a good build if you want to use piercing?
Just so you know, you have one too many levels of Critical Eye, you have 8 and the maximum is 7. I use the same build, but instead I just use one Trueshot Jewel instead of one of your Expert Jewels, that way you gain increased damage on Wyvernheart :)
I using the Black diabos hbg for piercing for while, DD for cluster and nerg for spread,( i really love the Sniper shot )... so the legiana's is really the best option for whe poor Pc players, or i can wait for kulve, Luna?

I don't see why you'd run so much affinity on this thing. I have a HBG shotgun I use to pressure monsters when I know they won't sit still for High Explosive abuse, but it uses only 30% affinity or so. Currently, with Fang Cannon, I have like 36%. And no crit boost because I run quick sheath, guard and health boost with the spread shot and stuff.
My point? Why not some defenses or utility? It's not like pierce ammo perma stuns a monster, that's why Cluster Bombs are apparently mocked. If I had a pierce hbg, I'd aim more for an adaptation of my shotgun, but likely with different gauntlets. Anja's, sound about right. But I leave pierce to my LBG and Bow. They do it safer.
Higher affinity makes better use of Crit 3
Cause of the mechanic of the pierce ammo that travel through the the body of the monster. In the long run affinity deal more damage than raw power, so its worth it to stack affinity + crit boost
And if ur planing more aggresive build put the evade ext+evade window

Nerg is actually a good monster to pierce as well.
A mind'eye jewel is mandatory for this build to make it efficient

Found a minds eye jewel and I'm a LBG/HBG user. Only have one expert jewel so thinking about replacing the legs on that build.

With an attack focused build testing with a mind's eye player farming xeno for an entire day... it makes it easier to pull off higher DPS so yeah its more efficient, but definitely not mandatory.
Love the gun, hate the wyvernheart... like 99% of it's users. It can reliably unload about 2-3K damage per cycle. If it had snipe and not heart I would be able to amp that up to near 4K per cycle.

Empress cannon styx gets slow reload on pierce 3 if you put 3 recoil mods for average recoil though.
You have pretty big clips though and all 3 pierce so you should be fine
That's why I consider Taroth support to be the better Pierce 3 HBG

Isn't Maximum Might better than Critical Eye? For piercing bowguns it IS, and I'm so sure about that because most of the time you either only one roll to go out of the harm's way or just walk away! Also, no elementless? I'm not sure why...

What about the Blazooka? It has Pierce 1/2/3, higher base damage and Wyvernsnipe. Wouldn't that be the better choice?
While you can certainly build that for pierce if you want to, it's very low ammo capacity is a big killer for DPS
I was wondering since I find that Wyvernsnipe is overall better for damage(Except against Kirin obviously).
I mean, I feel kind of mean for picking on poor Bazelgeuse and doing over 1k damage with a single wyvernsnipe for instance.
Between the Legiana Piercing versus the BLAAZZOOOKA I saw a drop of 4 damage per tick for Piercing 1/2.
On a side note I never knew that 1 and 2 do the same damage :o
Also when I put on the piercing decoration versus Attack 3 I had an overall increase of 1 damage(Not worth the drop in damage for all the other ammo types I feel?).

Personally I'm loving the Radobaan gun for the Paralysis Sleep wombo combo(Apothecary mantle) when playing with others. Just trying to figure out the best solo gun that's not Spread. I really don't care much for spread :\

Shatter just has far more ammo capacity making it the goto pierce gun on the PC.

Blazooka also for wyvern fire, same with teostras which has a capacity of 2 shots where blaz has 1 but the blaz does more damage.
Yar, thanks by the way to everyone for responding and being nice. It's my first Monster Hunter game and I'm still pretty scrubby. I keep building weapons non-stop(Up to 5 pages!) so I just like to understand how they all work and what makes certain ones better than others.
Element lbg have far higher n better dmg than this gun. In my opinion Use griffen bazooka or something i forgot the name for piercing built its more worth for the dmg n reduce time hunt.

Very early the Glutton HBG isnt bad, but you'll probably want to use the Destruction's fusilade (Nergigante)
Twas my first hbg before I moved into clust, its a fun gun but hits rather low and I still find it dumb that its a wyvernheart and not snipe, it looks like a sniper

Is that all that's worth building for? I ask mainly because pierce damage through longer monsters is still very consistent if you build right so damage won't necessarily be low?
It really is very weak compared to the Empress Cannon Styx. That one has basically the same ammunition stats but comes with 30 more attack value, an extra 10% affinity, an extra large decoration slot and the spare shot skill. If the Shattercryst was a rarity 6 weapon like its stats would imply, then the extra augmentation slots would even things out.
I think they threw it into rarity 8 because the rest of the Legiana weapons were there, but the those weapons come with a a very high ice element and white sharpness as standard.
Its just that alot of the hbg tree outclasses and tech pierce is a very situational ammo type compared to spread and normal all the more on clust

Yes, getting good at dodging makes defensive skills mostly useless. It's why speedrunners finish hunts in sub 2minutes, they build as much crit and atk as possible and just don't get hit.

Mind's eye gives you extra range?
Minds Eye vastly improves your optimal range, the only time your out of the optimal range with Minds Eye is either your out of range and your doing no damage or your so close you can touch the monster. Minds Eye is super good for piece ammo.

I do believe it does.
The armor build shown here is basically the easy way to get Minds Eye but you can get Minds Eye as a decoration but it's super rare and a pain in the ass to get from what I have seen.
@@coralld1163 Wew. So TLDR: it helps with bowguns (at least with HBGs, didn't test for LBGs) but not really with bows.
I already actually have one jewel but I didn't think it was worth much since I mostly relied on close range coatings for damage anyway. Ended up swapping it for an element boost jewel.
Also before posting this, I decided to try them out in the training area and I'm almost certain that it gives no extra critical range for bows. It does however let you get slightly closer before getting the yellow reticle, which I already knew from when I first started testing the jewel a few weeks ago. No extra critical range from afar on bows (tried both power and close range coatings) as far as I can tell.
Now admittedly, I don't know much about bowguns and I've never used or built one. I used Taroth assault "blast" for my testing because it was one of the two rarity 8 HBGs I got from Kulve. And I don't know if piece ammo 1 or 2 have different critical ranges but I tested with both and it seems like it gives you slightly higher critical range for some reason but that makes no sense..? You can test it yoursealf just aim at the pillar standing next to the torch in the training room and you can see how miniscule the difference is. I'm not even sure if it's gonna be noticeable in a hunt, but then again as I said I don't know much about bowguns. Close up however, the difference is HUGE. Would definitely recommend it on a HBG pierce build.
@@bashkuch because i use evade extender 3, i use minds eye sometimes. That extra range for little to no damage penalty is really nice. Just depends on your playstyle.
I use minds eye + evade extender combo especially when fighting tempered lunastra or deviljho. It allows me to avoid lunastras ridiculous aoe and range without having to use a weapon with a shield and can keep up my damage with minds eye

on PC right now Gunlance is actually lower in popularity than the Lance according to the Wyverian.

Gunlance is pretty easy to build for. If you're going for long shelling(Magda's GL) then you only need focus and artillery, rest can be whatever you personally want. For normal shelling(Royal Burst) it's artillery plus something like weakness exploit. Oh, and magazine for both obviously.

I second this idea!. Really looking forward to the Styx on pc. Pierce 3, spare shot, cluster bombs 1,2,3 and wyvern snipe. What's not to love? It might not be the best pierce gun cause of the 3 recoil mods needed but it looks so fun because of it's versatility. And ofc wyvern snipe > mashine gun on a pierce build.

Austin K Yeah, and I have a better build on PC. That only uses 3 sockets that you can farm for but aren't needed whatsoever. I prefer to look at speedrun builds posted before drachen, its a neat strategy for high damage builds.
