TagBackTV Mushroomancer set piece is better than wasting max potions or nutrients just eat 5 different mushrooms to get max hp, max stamina, attack bonus, defense bonus, and the wiggly litchi stamina buff.
It also stacks with mega demon drug and mega armorskin, and if you're feeling crazy you can stack again with might pills and adamant pills during fights (pills only last 30 seconds)
Basically the mushrooms are the same as a normal demon drug and armorskin but you can stack them with the mega versions because technically they are different items
There are some pretty good skills for specific things like rare farming or team assistance, but I usually don't bother either. Not that they aren't worth using, but I don't really bother grinding for that much, or plan to carry other players with skills like insurance. And if you don't plan on dying or dealing with diminished rewards, it's just for failure prevention. Skills are good and all, but they're not for all players. Most are just out to get the max health bonus.
I only use custom food for when I need to min max everything. I can get health and stamina from items. Chef's choice is for when I know I can beat a monster without effort.
There are alot of good skills in their though, sure its dependent on your weapon and preference but still and it's not like its that big of a deal to eat a max pot or nutrients
Also, unless there's something I don't understand about how saving custom platters works, it's kind of pointless if you're really trying to get those skills. It's going to save exactly which items you picked, but the fresh ingredients are random so you could be missing the fresh items of the same skill type if you just use your saved platter. You would literally have to hand craft a platter EVERY TIME to give you the best chance of getting skills.
Chefs choice is just fine for most hunts, the only time it’s good to make your own is if your having trouble with a particular fight and need a bit extra help for survivability
@@poorlovell16 I usually just switch out a bunch of res gems during a hunt and I'm good to go. And that's if I actually need the Elemental def. Otherwise I just throw on a high def armor set with other assistive gems like venom gems.
@Master Rayam Time for a late reply to a late question. Most ingredients can be easily found or by doing quests. The last few I believe are much rarer rewards from gathering and small monsters, etc. I do not actually have them all myself, so I might be totally wrong.
@Sleksin, you're about right. You get food from optional quests the chef gives, from research quests like "catch me those ants" that you get from researchers out in the field, from research nodes like sunbloom, gourmet shrooms etc. and lastly from some special quests (like the brew you get from the third fleet master). Special shoutout to the shitty shit crake that can go fuck itself, because you'll have to reload the same two areas for hours to find and capture it. Apart from that, the rarest that you might be missing, are only found from research nodes in certain conditions (like "Upsurge: Amber" is necessary and then you'll need to find a specific node, that only shows up during this upsurge to get the specific item).
I prioritize survival over everything. So I take health whenever I can. Can't enjoy your rewards if you can't finish the quest, and every sliver of health helps.
Mega Nutrients and ancient potions are tedious as hell to make so I just go with 5 out of 6 fresh item and use the last one to top of any buffs. You don't need elemental buffs if you have 25 of whatever element you're fighting (like 25 fire against an Uragaan), and the real buff I'd sacrifice HP for is if we had some status resistance like stun or paralysis against Girros etc. I will say this is great video though. I always support informative videos, since MHs don't always tell you what some things can do.
I use a moss swine mask and a mushroomancer charm loadout, eat some mushrooms to do the same as the max potion, immunizer, armorskin, demondrug, and dashjuice from a handful of mushrooms. It's cheap, easy, and takes no time to change loadouts. All of them last until death except the immunizer which is 10 minutes. Then your canteen trip is exclusively for the dmg/def/ or skills. If I die, just switch loadouts, eat some shrooms, and back at it. Put some speed eating armor pieces in the mix and it takes almost no time at all.
Kenan Hoffpauir I do the same mushroomancer buff before each fight, so handy! I didn't even know there was a speed eating skill tho! Gonna throw that armor on the preset now, thank you sir!!!
I dunno.......after playing monster hunter for a decade now I'd say the health and stamina boost are vital no matter your defense and resistance. Save your Max potions and your ancient potions just farm armour seeds and power seeds
Doesn't the canteen's buffs stack with armor and power drugs? I figure it's best to use max potions and line up attack (L) with the felyne skills if you already have enough defense. And with canteen defense/elemental resistance (L) when fighting tougher bosses like arch-tempered monsters. But for the most part, the easier monsters aren't worth farming max potions, and don't require much prep.
I mean, yes, health and stamina are pretty important, but you really don't need to "farm" for max potions, unless you're like 6 hours in. Once you get your second slot on the botanical stuff you can get so much shit, that you really don't need to farm anything. Stamina will always be full, as long as you eat at the canteen at least. Often you'll get at least like 10-30hp on top of that and then you can just blast the max potion when you've taken like 1-2 hits for maximum efficiency. Your experience in previous MH games is useless, considering a lot has changed in MHW. I literally have like 200 mandragora shrooms and 40 max potions right now and I've not even cultivated mandragora for a while now. Also the more damage you do, the less you'll need to heal. MHW is about DPS-racing in the very most fights and I pretty much only go for sth like Elemental Resist against shit like Lunastra or tempered Teostra.
As a new player to the entire Monster Hunter franchise, and as someone who is currently struggling at HR 13, this is a really helpful video. I knew eating at the Canteen was significant, but I always just spammed the Chef's Choice without much thought. Making custom meals could be a significant help depending on which weapons I want to use. Thanks for the video!
Maybe if the games had some voice acting (not counting World obviously. Even then, I'm pretty sure no one in game says it), we'd know how to pronounce it. I'm pretty sure half the people playing MH say it differently. Feline, Fey-line, Fey-lean, ect. If you are so thrown off by someone mispronouncing an unspoken word, that would be your problem.
ZaleraArkanus666 i think common sense is the issue. Either way someone can make a comment without being "so thrown off". You seem worse than me taking the time to write that whole thing
@@ZaleraArkanus666 no, they say Felyne quite a lot of times, actually. He should know how it's pronounced. Even if he hasn't seen or didn't pay attention to those cutscenes, it's quite obvious how it's pronounced.
Hey, thanks for a further explanation of the canteen. I knew the fundamentals but never really looked into the skills themselves. The Attack (L) seems to be a fairly good raw damage boost. It adds a flat 15 raw damage, which is the equivalent of having a level 5 Attack Boost armor ability. Although one thing bothers me.... Are you actually going against Meowscular Chef's Choice?!
Gilgamesh of Uruk You make Deviljho sound like strongest monster or something. He is strong but he ain’t elder dragon level and he is very valuable to ailment meat. If you rely on food skill to hunt monsters then you might have problem.
Great info! I just recently starting paying attention to feline and daily skills. They REALLY help. I love Feline moxie and insurance. It’s also nice to have a normal shots buff when using bow or LBG. It’s good to use a voucher sometimes for a 100% chance to get the daily skills.
The other awesome benefit is that by the time you've actually selected your custom meal and joined someones quest the monster may already be limping. Really though, custom meals are cool but more complicated than they have ever been. The registration of custom meals I find particularly frustrating, since it's not selecting a number of type (meat/fish/veggie/alchy) & color, but exact ingredients. You're better served going into the individual selection every single time to try and get the freshest combination, unless you do all one color and type all the time.
As a veteran MH player i disagree. Monsters are a joke anyways so i don't get why'd you go for specific skills unless you're attempting a TA. Chef's Platter is just fine unless you like farming your potions.
I always uses it since the "buff" attack/def/element always expires after a certain time. So in that regard its a waste, when all I want is the 50 health, 50 Stamina and Palico Health which stays for the full duration of the quest/expidition (unless you die)... In the field I can buff Demon drug, Armor Drug to make up for those buffs. Only thing I see useful in this video is trying to get the feats that benifit you and your playstyle
I just got into MH, and one of my favorite things has been learning so many things. Man this is really my new favorite game I'm loving every minute of it... That Bazelgueise doesn't meddle in my hunts lol
Good thing to see this MH game brought more people to the series. Btw, believe me, Bazel is even helpful sometimes, however, old school Deviljho.......
Raistlarn yeah I did this when I hunted for 2 tempered bazels. I just let one of them kamikaze the other one and it was limping in less than 15 mins lmao
Problem with custom meals: Activation chance is based on ingredient freshness. If you make a custom meal with the skills you want, chances are very high that it's going to have little to no fresh ingredients, meaning there is a very high chance you're not even going to get the skills. Chefs choice saves you a max potion and has the highest chance of skill activation. Custom meals are a complete waste of time unless you're using a food voucher, in which case I would agree, but even then the skills you get are (for the most part) lackluster and really don't do a lot.
It really depends on who you fight. Chefs platter is well rounded and quick to use especially if your just farming. I would recommend low defense with high elemental resistance for most higher level monsters
i had been avoiding the custom platters as it seemed a little overwhelming my first look into it, and i never looked again. this helps so much, thank you!
Honestly, sometimes I really want feline provoker. I build heavy tank, lance and shield. Having that skill lets my party member who hits harder but has less defense take less of a pounding. Also extremely useful when you have a bowgun or bow user.
I only use Chef's Choice, or the Atk./Def. Up Large. Each one always gives you at least full stamina, so then you just have to use 1 or 2 Mega Nutrients, which are easy to farm. I have no problem staying stocked up on everything if I visit the farm after each hunt.
"Prevents knockbacks while carving, That comes in handy when you're playing with douchebacks" LMFAO That killed me. I feel you man i play with douchebacks myself, Though i had no idea about this food skill. Uhuh yes indeed it'll deffinitly come in handy, I have no doubt about it..
Good video man...and here I was always getting the chefs choice because I didn't really fully understand how to decide on a custom meal. Thanks a lot homie.
That’s some useful tips man thanks! I know I was guilty of not giving a crap about the other meals and went straight for the chef’s special all the time. Custom meals all the way now. That attack up large will be MINE!!
Video: STOP using Chefs Choice! Make meals to give you buffs instead! Me: *Chugging Demondrug After already eating a Might Seed And Might Pill* ...Boi, I’ve got buffs in spades and it’s all free
i think the main issue is, in MHW they never actually explain their food system. This leaves new players at a loss because there's no tutorial on how to actually get better food, how to obtain the ingredients, and what better ingredients mean to them. In fact when I started it actually was NEVER explained at all and i believe it was just ASSUMED that everyone knew what and how the system worked. I still don't really know how the system works and i've completed the ENTIRE questline and there still isn't any explanation as to how it works.
Wow this is just about useless, I'm not even joking. The reason why I use Chef's Choice is because everything they give you is guaranteed (not 100% of the time of course but most of the time), I'll just keep using it until I complete majority of the quest they have for meals. Also I don't need to waste items if I use Chef's Choice, majority of the time I'm going to need health potions later on the quest to boost my health if I faint. There really isn't a need for this video unless you're showing us how to get specific abilities. My opinion, sorry but I don't find this informative about the canteen that you can't just learn from playing the game. (Other than finding out about the vouchers being obtained in the arena, thank you)
I feel this video is useful mainly for the people who keep just using the chef's choice even when they're struggling. Most of the time the bonuses and skills aren't needed, but I guess some people are basically unaware that they even exist.
Yea they won't make hunting insanely easier or anything like that but the skills can be very useful and neglecting them can be you neglecting something that would cut off 5 minutes of the hunt. When I'm gathering I use the ale's and drinks to eat for the skill that allows me to gather extra times. When I hammer, slugger, and I can feel the difference. Health, Stamina, Attack, Defence and Elemental to a degree (using mantles) can be buffed greater than food with items (Max Potions, Well Done Steaks, Ancient Potions, Mega Demondrug/Amorskin and the Elemental Mantles) so the food becomes solely about the skills which is a big thing. Try it out it helps a lot dude.
Mukz725 i might have a read on those food skills but I got sub 5 tempered nergigante that mean that I can get even better time?(because for me that its pretty good)
Jason Lobo again there's no guarantee of anything but it makes you more confident and can benefit you greatly. If you build a good set of armor skills you can use food skills as an added skill eg. I have handicraft on my weapon that pushes the blue sharpness in to white sharpness, I also have a skill that prevents my sharpness from depleting for a short time after sharpening. I eat for felyne polisher too which speeds up my sharpening greatly and I've got a good combo. You could go for felyne moxie and it could possibly save you from the nerg dive that you 100% dodged but the game fucked you over, you were prepared for that though cos you ate for that situation and your time isn't ruined.
Jason Lobo always get attack boost L. Do you not know how to make nutrients or max potions? Chefs platter is a waste when nutrients are so easy to make and you can get whatever L buff you want at non sacrifice
Sparky Spinz sometimes I eat for attack L but for me it's pretty irrelevant with attack boost 7 critical eye 7, maximum might and shit like that, I use a gun lance with nearly 750 raw damage
Massive Thanks dude!! I'm only HR62 but I've been lazy & lived off the chefs choice. With this I feel confident enough now to start making my own platters & making a more focused approached to hunts!! 👊
Unless you have a large number of the ingredients unlocked, doing chef's choice is usually the way to go unless it has skills you don't need (running hammer and it'll give sharpshooter, etc). The real thing to pay attention to when switching to other platters is the activation chance. With Food buff's giving 3%, 6%, or 8% for Small, Medium, or Large respectively, it's not the greatest increase versus having easy +50 HP/STAM and whatever food buffs will activate. Something that's good to remember is that even with 2.5 stars, you can end up with nothing. If I'm running hammer and Imiss out on slugger or felyne feet for a 8% damage boost and having to munch [Mega] nutrients (or Max pots if I'm rich, and then won't be for long), it usually feels like a drag unless I'm going against a Tempered Elder. TLDR; Chef's choice a fine idea for skill activation and lazy hp/stam versus a +5% specific damage boost (usually).
MrRighteousfish Uhhh it will stay I think but the ingredients won't be fresh, it's good if you're looking for a specific skill and when you see the chances of it being high you can go for it :)
Obsydian Warlock but you can also use MD drug to buff your attack, might seeds and might pill. So it sounds to me like it would be the same either way... so more like it depends on your playstyle. I use wide range ability a lot because my team is always diying, for me having these buffs in items is better than in a platter, plus you can save your max pots in case you cart.
@@dewinmartinez7222 YES!!! FUCK YEAH! finally, I find your comment! No more need to search! I don't waste time collecting tickets or cultivating a load of items because I don't have that much time to waste. I save those potions in case I faint, and almost never fail because of this. If you don't suck too hard, the health and stamina increase should give most average players what they need to survive. Res gems can pretty much take care of the rest. So I salute you! You fantastic bastard! There's hope after all. Keep slayin'em, buddy! 👍
Not sure if you talked about this yet because I'm only about 1/4 of the way through the video but the activation chance is *VERY* important, sure you get all the food skills you want but with chefs choice its a 3 star activation chance which means either 99% or 100% of the time you get all of the skills plus the buffs plus max hp and stamina AND max hp for your palico.
You don't need skills, and until you have all the food you can't exactly eat for what you want, especially if it's not fresh. HP is better than nothing.
Josh Kempton honestly you really dont, you just need the health and stamina, and if you don't want that then go attack up large why would you go for element res like Thats a waste tbh, defense is different depending on your weapon, most of the time those skills will be shit, the only really good skills are the last 2 skills (beer tree)
Agreed lol even with over half of my gear argumented 90+ armor and 20+ lightning resist Tempered Kirin still close to 1shots with some attacks, it makes the damage all the other tempered monsters do look like a joke.
I always choose chef platter in my nee save files because all i need is +50 hp and stamina Custom platter is nice only if you already have majority of the food ingredients, or simply hitchhiking at other player session and most importantly, food ticket or gourmet tickets so you can activate your food skills. Thats why i only use them in my main save file, in my other new save files, i like to start mhw from start to fatalis using a new weapon, i usually just choose chef platter cause honestly the food skills wont help much outside the hp and stamina buff, i didnt even bother using them when i made a new save file with bow weapon (black belt is pretty useful with 20% stamina reduction), i only using them after i gained access to steamworks with x10 output so i can get gourmet voucher easily, even then i didnt use much cus it didn't take long to take down fatalis by then.
Eh, I'm not gonna pop max pots and nutrients every hunt when I could just get it from the meal. Max pots are for if you get carted and need to refill your health bar. I have good enough attack, cat skills are nice, but not vital. My chefs choice often throws an atk, def, or element res M in the mix as well. It's not all S... Good enough, been hunting for years, just gimme the health and stamina.
I like how everyone replying to others in the comments is talking about Deviljho even though we dont know how he will really act in game yet damage and attack patterns wise (Since there is no indication to him being the exact same as earlier games with him in them). You will run out of Max potions and Ancient Potions and farming mats to craft them might become a pain after a while. There’s nothing wrong with using Chief Choice then using a Atk or Def Buff on the field. Plus if you have knowledge of the enemy all you really need is that HP and Stamina boost to keep you going. None the less this was a very informative video on different ways Custom Platters work.
This is a super informative video, I've always been curious about the food skills, and what works best. Thanks man. Also, I dont' know if you have have since I'm a recent subscriber and have only seen about 6 or 7 videos so far, but if you could either make a video about or point me in the direction of unlocking the arena quests int he gathering hub that would be amazing! I've looked around a lot online but can't seem to find any definitive answers.
Sure thing! I just finished the Xeno last night actually, so story wise, I'm pretty sure I'm finished, I have arena quests 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 unlocked. Not sure if the Rank matter on these, or changes, but respectively, they are LR1, LR2, LR4, HR6, HR6, HR7, HR8, and HR9. After looking at your video about the Brigade and Guild armor, it seems I don't have the Tsi-Tsi-Ya Ku quest (number 4) compared to you, but I know I have captured and slain it multiple times in the story. I also know my friend, whom I've played with in its entirety, doesn't have as many quests as I have. Also, looking now, surprisingly, I don't have the optional quest "Say Cheese" finished on this playthrough, so it may just be that. If it is, then not only is some information brought to light about how to unlock the quests, but it would still make for a very nice, informative video, I think.
Update: Indeed, after finishing "Say Cheese" I did unlock that arena quest. Now I suppose I know how to make sure all the arena quests are unlocked, which is nice. Now the last question I suppose, is if these 9 quests are all of the arena quests. I suppose the best way to find that out, (and to unlock the commission armor for those who don't know) is to complete all of the optional quests!
Started watching this while eating lunch then begin to joke with the fam that we wouldn't get in the plus Health bonuses by eating the chicken pot pie from a can lol
I only quest for tempered elder dragons so I'm used to dodging in time as well as having an endgame armor/weapon setup perks. Chefs choice is all I really need for the extra health and stamina. The benefits would probably help for new players and such.
So, actually, what i'm gonna do is just go ahead and actually go ahead and never actually say anything...coulda been a 5 minute video without all the filler words.
This video helped me learn the canteen a lot better because the custom platter setup is newer compared to older MH games. But also i feel like the food buffs really don't make that much of a difference unless its a large boost. Most what's important for fighting monsters are your weapon damage/element and your defense rating/elemental resistance.
stop using chef choice... why? just learn to use a hunting horn and bring the right mantle, tempered Kirin cares not for your food choices or your stat bonuses, if your within eye contact your already half health.
Ace Sword daily skills reset every mission. So check by each hunt, and do the hard mission when it comes up. Then use a voucher to guarantee activation
One reason to get +50 health is because if you have a decoration that gives you more health you cant go over max health with the potions, but you can go over max health with eating
A bit more about the importance of fresh ingredients. If you really need a particular food skill, such as, Felyne Moxie, you should search the tabs for fresh ingredients to increase your chances of activating that food skill. But since Felyne Moxie requires six food items from the resilience category you will likely have no more than two fresh ingredients in your custom meal. It's easy to almost always activate the food skills only needing two food items from one category. For example Felyne Acrobat from the resilience category, just choose two fresh ingredients in the resilience category and you can choose all the other fresh ingredients from any other categories or tabs. The food canteen is a mini-game in itself.
I much, MUCH prefer saving my max potions and a higher chance to get any skills rather than a lower chance to get skills I'd like. If I care enough for a specific status effect, I'll use the meat, fish or veggie dish and then a max potion. But Chef's choice is just more acceptable in terms of long term costs and chances TO HAVE something (even if it may be useless)
@@TagBackTv Shitty advice, man. I'm sorry, but it really is. Even if this guy was just being sarcastic. This video was a giant, gaping hole of terrible advice. Mostly for newcomers, players coming from all or most past MH games, and people that actually have to work for a living. There are too many problems with these canteen videos, like time-to-craft, individual experiences of the players themselves, and a whole list of other reasons. It would great if it weren't so literal in its intentions, but you don't give people pros AND cons. You just approached a broad spectrum of different level players and shoved your advice down their throats. You're videos have a good intention behind them. I believe that. But experienced players already know what's best for them, and new players look at this as a how-to video, with none of the drawbacks, like what's actually available to them. Maybe add some of the accessibility issues of being early to mid-game and it won't sound like you're pitching your own opinion like it's absolute. Good advice is speculative and won't try to force players to play the same as others. Again, love how it shows new players other ways to approach hunts, but you gotta tone down the forceful advice, or at least tone down the name of the videos, my friend.
It's really not. Also love that you try and target my profession haha, shows how little you actually know. Considering at this time I spent the majority of my free time playing with both new and old players and getting tons of information from the community. Every live stream people would be asking questions about the canteen, this was a huge information gap at the time for new people. So many people just use chef's choice because they see the increased health thinking it is the best. While it may be hard to eat specific meals early game (low rank) understanding the importance the canteen can play later in the game is important. Anyone can easily do the optional quests to unlock ingredients or gather for rare ingredients at any point, although you can only get ALL ingredients once you unlock the elder's recess, which is where eating for specific meals can start being a major advantage, ESPECIALLY for new players, because they are actually still learning the game and the fights.
I just started playing World about 2 weeks ago after not playing MH since the first one on PS2. I wish I would've played when it first came out. I'm having a blast, there's soooo much to this game it can be a bit overwhelming at first but so worth the learning curve. I only paid $10 for it on sale. What a great deal.
If you run 3 vitality jewels then you'll already have +50 hp and won't have to worry and if you really wanna be safe you eat chefs choice and get 200 total hp
If you run 3 vitality jewels you can still eat a Max potion and get up to 200HP without eating the chefs choice meal :) just tested and verified again/

Not only is my doctor telling me I'm eating wrong. But, apparently my character in a video game is also eating the wrong meals.

Exactly 911 likes I will not deal with the cops AGAIN “presses the like Button”

Honestly I only choose chefs platter cause I’m a lazy ass and I’m not about to spend extra brain power on a custom meal
M Gotta use that brain meat
50 hp/stam att L all you need
There are some pretty good skills for specific things like rare farming or team assistance, but I usually don't bother either. Not that they aren't worth using, but I don't really bother grinding for that much, or plan to carry other players with skills like insurance. And if you don't plan on dying or dealing with diminished rewards, it's just for failure prevention. Skills are good and all, but they're not for all players. Most are just out to get the max health bonus.
M lmao same
I feel you
*Watches video*
*Continues to use Chef Platter*
It's a hard habit to get rid of
I mean... chef choice looks better
Lol literally dont need to be 15 mins.
i dunno how he made this into a boring thing to talk about, i dont think ive ever felt the need to scream stfu this much
I only use custom food for when I need to min max everything. I can get health and stamina from items.
Chef's choice is for when I know I can beat a monster without effort.
You dare doubting the chefs choice? He has a knife :l
If I disappear you all know who killed me.
TagBackTV you will be missed xD
So do you, and in my case I️ have multiple knives. (Dual blades)
"it's not how much you can hold but how can you handle the knife" - that mewscular chef cat probably
If he gets a bigger knife maybe he'll survive.
The only thing I got from this video is that I should keep using chefs choice because none of the skills are appealing
There are alot of good skills in their though, sure its dependent on your weapon and preference but still and it's not like its that big of a deal to eat a max pot or nutrients
stat buff?
Moxie is pretty good for most any weapon or build, and the stat buffs make a big difference actually.
OP highlights the difference between a noob and a good player.
Oh wanna know something?
Use Meat Platter then Nutrients after that so u get nice buff and plus 50 stamina and health
I just want my 50hp :(
Eat multi vitamins in field
Mega nutrients
nah just eat a max potion. they are super easy to get now from melding
Nathan C Phillips I have melding unlocked but what exactly does it do? How do you make Max potions easy?
Savage King you pretty much use it to trade items for other items . Like monster bones are worth 30 meld points. And so is a max potion:D
Are you saying that you're better than the chief ? Hey chef come give him Karate cat kick
Who are you talking about, the Commander in Chief, Master Chief, Chief Little Big Horn... Any other chiefs? Oooooh, you must mean the CHEF.
The Greater Ajax u must be fun
at least he made a joke out of it instead of going "ACKSTUALLY ITS CHEF"
If the chef is a muscular bipedal cat, I would be afraid to say no for the chef's choice 😂
I think you meant Cat-rate kick
Also, unless there's something I don't understand about how saving custom platters works, it's kind of pointless if you're really trying to get those skills. It's going to save exactly which items you picked, but the fresh ingredients are random so you could be missing the fresh items of the same skill type if you just use your saved platter.
You would literally have to hand craft a platter EVERY TIME to give you the best chance of getting skills.

A meal voucher sitting in the corner: am I a joke to you!?
Chefs choice is just fine for most hunts, the only time it’s good to make your own is if your having trouble with a particular fight and need a bit extra help for survivability
Lee Anderson exactly this guy is making it seem like using chef's choice is bad. Everything but elemental resistance can be raised in the field.
@@poorlovell16 I usually just switch out a bunch of res gems during a hunt and I'm good to go. And that's if I actually need the Elemental def. Otherwise I just throw on a high def armor set with other assistive gems like venom gems.
dont even got all the ingredients. how can you be trusted
>_>
Feel so dumb. Thought they were cat skills 😂😂
Same...
It's misleading the way they're titled
Lol I did too
Shakes head at the new kids xD
Me too lol
Lol. I'm guilty. I know about this but I never do it. I just get my 50HP and get back to hunting!
I have been guilty myself! I even pointed it out in stream last night haha
Lol run chef platter +50 up and stam and attack or def boost
Chef platter is so random to.
All this time I thought they were skills for the cat, lol.
Should have ommited felyne in there
Me to lol
Mush is the only way to play, lol
You cant tell me what to do, I do what I want!!!!!

TagBackTV its my hot body!
Captain ReddBeard right... 🤣😂 I still use it because I keep getting a lot of Heath and and stamina :)
I wouldn't mind creating my own dish.
I want to be a chicken._.
I dunno.......after playing monster hunter for a decade now I'd say the health and stamina boost are vital no matter your defense and resistance. Save your Max potions and your ancient potions just farm armour seeds and power seeds
Same here, and agree completely.
Me in mhfu there
wait, the point of the canteen isnt fresh food buffs and elemental resist? I'd sure love an elemental resist drug to take D:

I AM TOO RN I HATE THAT DAMN NERGIGANTE 💀
I got walled in MR with Barioth. In the future I will be definitely doing 4 meat + fresh ingredients
Killing me with the "fey line"....
Man I searched so long hoping someone agreed I can't stand that shit
Maybe if the games had some voice acting (not counting World obviously. Even then, I'm pretty sure no one in game says it), we'd know how to pronounce it. I'm pretty sure half the people playing MH say it differently. Feline, Fey-line, Fey-lean, ect. If you are so thrown off by someone mispronouncing an unspoken word, that would be your problem.
ZaleraArkanus666 i think common sense is the issue. Either way someone can make a comment without being "so thrown off". You seem worse than me taking the time to write that whole thing
ZaleraArkanus666 there's only one way to say it though? It's FEE-line, as in cat, as in the Palico is a cat. Mystery solved 😒
This is useful but you honestly can do fine with the chefs choice. Just use your mantle or gems to make up for resistance or defense or attack ect
Deviljho will make mantles useless.
The real end game will tear apart the noobs from the experience hunters.
Gilgamesh of Uruk well I currently in end game and I always eat the chef choice I stop paying attention to food skill since tri
Killing temepered monsters with only chefs choice here, your move
Gilgamesh of Uruk You make Deviljho sound like strongest monster or something. He is strong but he ain’t elder dragon level and he is very valuable to ailment meat. If you rely on food skill to hunt monsters then you might have problem.
Great info! I just recently starting paying attention to feline and daily skills. They REALLY help. I love Feline moxie and insurance. It’s also nice to have a normal shots buff when using bow or LBG. It’s good to use a voucher sometimes for a 100% chance to get the daily skills.
Then immediately go back to using chefs choice because 9 times out of ten, 50 hp is much more important than the food skills
potaterjim no it never is mate you can use items to get health
yes it is now shut up when you are such a dipshit
An ancient potion will immediately give you max health and max stamina, so the health and stam buffs from eating are irrelevant.
Chad Small but why waste a potion when you can get easy buff and save the potion for just in case scenarios
With the mindset of "just in case" not only are you wasting slots that could be used for pickups, but you often wont even use the item.
LordOfElm Remember to eat your custom meals and arrange your items before you join multiplayer. It makes joining a quest a lot easier.
As a veteran MH player i disagree.
Monsters are a joke anyways so i don't get why'd you go for specific skills unless you're attempting a TA. Chef's Platter is just fine unless you like farming your potions.
Zoroark ゾロアーク what’s a ta
pet poogie. bring poogie to handler. infinite vouchers
Chase De Vries wait what?
nani?
I get it!
... I don't get it.
This is some good shit.
I first thought those are vouchers for double zenny lol, just food vouchers

Ghillie Mantle, and let them duke it out. It's funny and Bagel Goose will probably break a few parts in the process.
And here i was, thinking Attack (S) was the best. It actually stands for shit.
Yes I thought it was like S tier or sumthin'.
I don’t use the chef’s choice because I like it, I use it because I’m LAZY
Dark Angel literally every one who's chef's choice
Thanks for the video, mate. I only focus on mastering my weapon and never spend time looking at the ingredient. Really appreciate this video.
Too long and winded.
Mr Obscene kinda like the game...
Eat some marijuana.
I don't know if you realize the irony of your statement.

RYUJI you's the homie
Kids can't handle stuff longer than a Twit lmao
I only use Chef's Choice, or the Atk./Def. Up Large. Each one always gives you at least full stamina, so then you just have to use 1 or 2 Mega Nutrients, which are easy to farm. I have no problem staying stocked up on everything if I visit the farm after each hunt.
Thank you for explaining the meals, it blows my mind how nothing in this game is clearer than mud...
*douche bags
Good video man...and here I was always getting the chefs choice because I didn't really fully understand how to decide on a custom meal. Thanks a lot homie.
I only do it when I feel like it. Otherwise, I will get my 50hp and still finish my hunts across the board under 15
That’s some useful tips man thanks! I know I was guilty of not giving a crap about the other meals and went straight for the chef’s special all the time. Custom meals all the way now. That attack up large will be MINE!!
urg its been 3 mins get to the goods man
gotta break 10 mins for that ad revenue
I basicly found no MH youtuber who does decent guides without stretching them unnecessarily to 10min+ -.- tedious watching them
Meal is shown at 8:53, you’re welcome
Thank you for this video. I did not understand how those skills worked and this made it a lot clearer.
I'm in endgame and as a veteran I really don't care about food skills I only want my HP and stamina I do that since tri never have a problema
I rather not use an item that seems like a wasted max potion in my humble opinion.
ReaperFang20 max potions are easy to farm
Use the mushroomancer build with this and you can easily max out your HP (among other things) for the low low cost of mushrooms!
Great vid but man if that meowscular chad tells me what to eat I’m gonna eat it, I fear him.
Thx man, was not sure what ‘Activation Chance meant’ as I recently started play MHW again recently. All round knowledgable vid. 👍🏽
Sorry chief, i already use all my braincells on the hunt, cant afford to spend them on a custom platter.
Great Video, Helps a lot! I have a bad habit of forgetting to eat before a hunt xD
Why did you skip the cute cat animation for the cooking???? That's the best part!!!! RUDE! XD
With the fresh ingredients always changing. Is it worth saving any custom meals?
MrRighteousfish Uhhh it will stay I think but the ingredients won't be fresh, it's good if you're looking for a specific skill and when you see the chances of it being high you can go for it :)
Yes. Fresh ingredients only really give you a health boost, which isn't necessary if you have max potions or mega nutrients.
Karl Bowman true true but I been using to much so gotta stop XD atleast until I get more or I dup more
No just get ele resist large
Karl Bowman Do they not go towards the activation chance? I thought that fresh ingredients get it higher
Very good tutorial man! I didnt even look for a tutorial but it popped up in my recommended. Unvoluntary knowledge
Buffs are good, but don't tell people to stop using choice platter... HP bonus is more important
dewin martinez But you can just make max potions to increase your health --__--
Obsydian Warlock but you can also use MD drug to buff your attack, might seeds and might pill.
@@dewinmartinez7222 Demondrugs and the like will stack with the food attack buff, but theres a hard cap to max hp
RockyYourMama i think kirin will disagree with you on elemental resistance.
poorlovell16 yea but that's one compare to the other 25 monsters :/ can't deny the res up for Kirin tho
Agreed lol even with over half of my gear argumented 90+ armor and 20+ lightning resist Tempered Kirin still close to 1shots with some attacks, it makes the damage all the other tempered monsters do look like a joke.
Jason apparently that's g rank for Mhw XD
I always choose chef platter in my nee save files because all i need is +50 hp and stamina
Custom platter is nice only if you already have majority of the food ingredients, or simply hitchhiking at other player session and most importantly, food ticket or gourmet tickets so you can activate your food skills.
I can look into that! can you tell me what you have unlocked and where you are in the story? Might be able to figure it out from there.
I suppose the best way to find that out, (and to unlock the commission armor for those who don't know) is to complete all of the optional quests!
investigations
Enochian Law have you checked under investigations
I'm new to the game and was lost here. Super helpful, appreciate you mate
Started watching this while eating lunch then begin to joke with the fam that we wouldn't get in the plus Health bonuses by eating the chicken pot pie from a can lol
omg yes lol
Amazing. I never realized how this worked, you have opened my eyes sir!
Thank god im sure everyone just rush canteen then skip, run off to battle without even knowing the benefits of making it yourself
Exactly! Major Benefits from Making some custom Platters!
I only quest for tempered elder dragons so I'm used to dodging in time as well as having an endgame armor/weapon setup perks. Chefs choice is all I really need for the extra health and stamina. The benefits would probably help for new players and such.
Benjamin Hong real hunters don't even need to eat, they feast on the tears of tempered elder dragons
Stefan Secrieriu You right
Yes cause real hunters can whoop ass no matter what
So you’re telling me that I can tell the chef that I don’t want olives on my pizza?
Now this is I like
So, actually, what i'm gonna do is just go ahead and actually go ahead and never actually say anything...coulda been a 5 minute video without all the filler words.
What's the tl;dr?
This video helped me learn the canteen a lot better because the custom platter setup is newer compared to older MH games. But also i feel like the food buffs really don't make that much of a difference unless its a large boost. Most what's important for fighting monsters are your weapon damage/element and your defense rating/elemental resistance.
The large boost vs the small is pretty substantial. While a lot of the skills are meh, it is good to get the large stat boosts.
God my armor I’m still torn over my armor skills and NOW THIS? - -
Brilliant i couldnt understand the custom meals so thanks and ive subscribed 🤘
Welcome to the community!
stop using chef choice... why? just learn to use a hunting horn and bring the right mantle, tempered Kirin cares not for your food choices or your stat bonuses, if your within eye contact your already half health.
Toasted llah he's not an elder dragon he is the devil
Thank you. I wont lie, I grab the chef platter cause I'm lazy and never fully understood the canteen. This helped a lot.
Any combinations to get definite Felyne Insurance? Can be really useful with tempered Elders
Ace Sword daily skills reset every mission. So check by each hunt, and do the hard mission when it comes up. Then use a voucher to guarantee activation
Or just learn their mechanics since the hardest monster in this game is the tempered Kirin
gastr0phetes Tempered Kirin was easy asf for me. Normal Black Diablos is hard for me tho lol
we all know that the Gajau is the stronkest
good utilization of canteen is so useful in MH. it can mean a difference between a No defender and Hi Defender. Or -19 Lightning resistance to -4.
One reason to get +50 health is because if you have a decoration that gives you more health you cant go over max health with the potions, but you can go over max health with eating
nope, you can use the +50 health from jewels and still use a max potion, acient potion or mandragora to get the 200 health
Thank you I never took note of the custom meals but this was very informative
Damn, really wish this video has more ads in it....
But what if all I want is 50hp?
I much, MUCH prefer saving my max potions and a higher chance to get any skills rather than a lower chance to get skills I'd like.
If I care enough for a specific status effect, I'll use the meat, fish or veggie dish and then a max potion. But Chef's choice is just more acceptable in terms of long term costs and chances TO HAVE something (even if it may be useless)
so just eat the chefs choice platter for extra health.. got it thanks!
No lol. You can get that extra health like 5 different ways. Did you not watch the video? XD
the sarcasm is not strong with you i fear...

Enjoyed the video bur I don't want to spend another minute trying to figure out what my character needs to eat. I do that enough in RL.
Wow I never knew. I was like health check, stamina check, we goochie
Thanks for the vid. I will be making more custom meals now.
'Under the meat tree'
I just started playing World about 2 weeks ago after not playing MH since the first one on PS2. I wish I would've played when it first came out. I'm having a blast, there's soooo much to this game it can be a bit overwhelming at first but so worth the learning curve. I only paid $10 for it on sale. What a great deal.
“Feyline”
“Feeline”is how you pronounce it. Feline as in cat. They just spell it felyne
I know he kept saying fey like the mythical creature and it hurt to hear...
Cool video..I just choice it up and get back to hunting, I realized the skills are good but don’t offer enough to actually worry about on my opinion
Fantastic video thanks! Never realised the depth to the canteen
Klemire9555 or mushroomancer.
Justin Hatcher mushroomancer is always the best and always will be
Yea, but then you're running 3 vitality jewels instead of something actually good...
Mighty Dingus like what good jewel??
