PD Simplified : Tyre Pressures
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 жов 2021
- Welcome to another episode of PowerDrift Simplified, and today Shumi explains the importance of the right tyre pressures. Tyres are one of the most crucial components of your motorcycle in the sense they transfer all of your inputs - acceleration, braking, and direction changes on onto the tarmac. Thus maintaining the right tyre pressures can improve your riding experience. Running lower tyre pressures than the recommended won't do you much good unless you are riding heavily off the road. On the flip side, higher pressures won't help you either. Almost all motorcycles have manufacturer recommended pressures calibrated for an average rider or rider and pillion. And these have intensive R&D involved.

Hi PD
Can you also elaborate the Nitrogen air benefits & much more details around it?
Hey, ,I tend to notice that my tyre pressure increase a lot along with the temperature when i go on long rides. Any recommendation on what tyre pressures to use for long rides(approx 500 kms)
I have a major doubt. I own a Honda Hornet 2019 version. The label on the bike says 25 psi/26psi for front+rear for solo rides. Every time i go to recheck air, the guy goes nuts saying FZ needs 35/40... Why's the big change? Is Honda wrong with the numbers?
Poor sound quality! Increase the gains!
I am new to this biking community, as in I bought my first bike at the age of 23. And this series really helps me understand about bikes and how to actually take care of it. Thank you so much for making these videos.
Aye! It was a pleasure to help you Animesh!
Can someone just take a moment to appreciate Shumi's vocab and com skills. Explained with such simplicity and with great facts. Have always been a fan of PowerDrift's content and Shumi. 🔥
Gmmmmm
This thing, tyre pressure, is really important to me. I feel very uncomfortable when my ride's tyre pressure is not as it should be. Thank you for making a dedicated video on this topic 😺🤙🏻
A very important aspect, and one of the most ignored ones. Glad we could help, Uttiya.
Yes ! The right Tyre pressure gives the correct speed as well. I always keep a tab on the Tyre pressure frequently and before long drives
@@powerdriftofficial what about the tyre pressure change if the tyre is upsized?
Finally, now I know a person who talks that stock recommended pressure is mostly best for the vehicle as well as the driver/rider. Thanks a lot Shumi for picking up this topic and explaining it clearly! @PD you guys rock! 👌🤘
One more alert to know tyre pressure is low is the effort required to move the bike ! Its considerably higher when you need to move it around ! Great series about such useful nuggets of information 👍
Is it necessary to top up your tyres with air even if there is a reduction in 1-2 PSI? And does it matter if you fill it with NO2 or regular compressed air? I would really appreciate it if you guys could answer these questions of mine. Great video BTW.
While a drop of 1-2PSI won't really make a difference, you should get the tyres checked if the drop is rapid.
Nitrogen does have it's advantages, but they are negligible in regular riding.
@@powerdriftofficial Thanks guys.
@@shimronalexander4793 There is no major benefits of using nitrogen over normal air. Its just a gimmick to earn more. So use normal air only.
@@powerdriftofficial qqaqaaaaaaaaqqqqa
@@ragschavan That's not a gymmic brother. Normal air consists water content in it and it may gets condensate when u park it for more days and it also leads to rust inner side the rims.
Nitrogen doens't contains water particles and condensation principles.
Still normal air is enough for our bikes and cars. Premium cars might need Nitrogen air
Thank u
You can never be 'alone with a pillion' Shumi.
Sweet background music btw!
Please guide us over night driving glasses. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this content. Without getting much into the physics of everything you guys structured and explained the concept precisely.
You welcome Anish! Cheers! :D
You are spot on. I have purchased an michelin air pressure gauge. I have found out that the puncturewala meters are genaraly awful. Sometimes they are off by 50%. Petrol pump digital meters are much more reliable. You have to buy a digital or analog certified pressure gauge to maintain your tyres be it car or bike.
Your communication skills to put across complex mechanics and physics is truly amazing. Joy to watch you even if you know nothing about motorcycles. You're doing an amazing job. Thank you
Nothing abt motorcycles??? Talking abt shumi??? Gone mad?
2:52 @Shumi, can you explain how one can be alone with a pillion? 😂 Just kidding... Great content as usual 🔥
Alone, with a pillion or when you're riding with a......
Really these podcasts are developing skills for us guys who loves riding bikes a lot. Thank you PD for such great content!👏🙌
Also, if you guys can please share a podcast on quick shifters, that we would be helpful!😃
Nothing can be more simplified than PD simplified 🔥💯
Haha! Thank you Yash!
I did a lot of searching on this topic when I bought my first big bike a few months ago. The tyres felt a bit skip-happy initially and it turned out that was coz I'm only 60 kg (with riding gear) and I was running the recommended pressure. Lowering by 3-4 psi just gives me the best feel.
Btw, have u adjusted the suspension according ur weight?
@@abirkumarbardhan8467 Yep. That was one of the first things I did.
It's absolutely necessary to have a reliable tyre pressure gauge. I learnt it in a hard way that resulted in an accident when a local roadside tyre shop pumped 60 psi in my rear tyre when I asked for 38-40 psi. His gauge showed 40. After the accident, I was agape to find the psi 60 from another tyre shop.
With the last PD simplified content.. thanks to you I am paying more attention to my rideing stance now and happy to tell you that the strain on my left forearm has significantly reduced now.. trying to hold up the bike more with the below the waist part now and useing handle as just a stearing tool.. thanks shumi.. u r the best
Liking before even actually watching it, because when it's Shumi's video it's gotta be good!
Now you gotta let us know how it was after watching it! :D
Good to know info, however should we still use stock psi if we upsize tyre?
Another thing thats come to my mind is a confusing parts of the air pressure:
1. Air pressure on your tyres in actually max pressure that tyres have.
2. Air pressure of the same tyre is different for the same tyre for different manufacturers and is given in manual or in a stickers on vehicle.
1) It's actually the minimum pressure that your tyres should have when they are cold.
2) Should be in the manual and/or a sticker near the swingarm.
Very informative and started watching ur content from recent times as have bought my first bike and loved the content. Great work... Guys... Keep going ahead..
This simplified series is so helpfull, for me personally up until now got to know many new things. Thanks PD
Glad you like them!

What should be the ideal tyre pressure for INTERCEPTOR 650 2022 model stock ceat tyres with and without pillion and with luggage?
Can you please explain about how the companies calibrate the tyre pressures for different tyre sizes, bikes, cars and even for some heavy loading vehicles
I can hear you all day. Your talk is like a therapy.
Sir when do we measure the tyre pressure? When it is cold or after riding?
Hello Sir,If we upsized the tires in Bike than stock tyres. Is it ok still maintain the stock tyre pressure recommendation ?
Is the tyre pressure based on the motorcycle or the tyre .. What happens when you switch from say MRF to Metzelers should the pressure be the same set by the manufacturer ?
My father always put 35 for front and 45 for rear tyre in hero honda passion plus as well fro Apache 160 . Am I in trouble ?? @shumi sir
Yes. 10000%
I literally searched for a video from PoweDrift on this topic couple of weeks ago!!! I was disappointed because there wasn't any. Thanks PD for sneaking into my search history and making a video on it🤪
In vstrom 250 the prussure recommended is 22 psi in front and 29 in the back. Is that really low considering the fact that these are big tyres ? Iam confused.
Accident today on Cement road.. Didn't even feel the front tyre slip until i lean a bit.. Split second down on right... Still can't process what went wrong.. Speed was in my comfortable spot... Maybe my tyre pressure was too high and my front tyre was on 13500km..
But I have a doubt. As I am using Himalayan it is recommended 27 front and 34 back. As I am kilos I maintain 1 ps more. But does it changes with tyre brands???? For example TIMSUN recommend to maintain ps of 41 for both front and back. What is the logic??? Please explain. Thanks
I'm a newbie sir! Just wanted to know whether both under pressure and over pressure decreases traction?!
Are manufacturer tyre pressure calculated based on the weather temperature if yes then how do we calculate for very hot or very cold weather?
Hi Team,
If the running is very low which air is better for the tires normal air or nitrogen
Is the tire pressure variable based on whether its a tube tire or tubeless tyre?
My dear @powerDrift brother’s please make a video on raising of fuel prices and their reason on hikes and please mention is there any chance that fuel will come under gst or not if it comes when it will be…. Please make sure to do this video as we Indians, we show much love on motorcycles
So I have a doubt, what if in race cars ( i mean formula 1 or nascar) the track and the tyre temps too hot, is there a chance of the tyre bursting due to excess pressure/heat?
@Shumi: @PowerDrift:
thank you for taking my suggestion! Love you ;)
Extremely useful, some of it was in our understanding but only in bits and pieces, now we know in detail the what, how and why & when of tyre pressure 🙏
Hi team PD, should I get a cheap tire inflator for my RE? Pros and cons?
Thanks man , this is amongst most important topic
Absolutely is! Hope this helped!
@@powerdriftofficial yes thanks for the guidance
Would the recommended tyre pressure change based on the tyre manufacturer and the type of rubber we use on the bike?
tire pressure calculated with the rider weight or with bike on the center stand?
Brake pads upgradation and disc upgradation is required or not?
Would be great to see a video on setting up the ergonomics and controls in different types of motorcycles and quick fixes that would make the ride much better.
Neat idea. We'll try to make one on that.
Ford Endeavour me full lod tyre pressure 44 psi at rear but mrf tyre max press51 psi hai to running me 6 psi badhta hai 50 psi in log run to ye safe hai kya?
What about tyres pressure at high altitude?? Should we reduce the tyre pressure at high altitude in regions like Kinnaur, spit or ladakh
Please do a short explanation on what to fill up in tyres, Nitrogen or Regular air and why ?
Hi PD any recommendation for Nitrogen gas over normal air in tyres
Is the recommended company psi for Cold or hot tyres?
Such a nice way to simply the basics.. next time I will surely check the air pressure he puncture wala maintain in my wheels...
Always a delight to watch almost all the bike reviews and PD simplified videos... 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Let's talk for adjustable shock absorbers. My mechanic at service station was educating me how to change the shock absorbers to more hard or soft depending upon the weight, road and the climatic conditions but I wasn't able to get it. Is it really that important and if it is I'll like to know when, why and how could this benefit us to become a better and safer rider in streets.
What happens if we inflate 35/40 where the recommended is 33/33 and then in the user manual it is always mentioned lower for grip like 26/29 single rider .
What to do when we put nitrogen? As it don't expand the suggest to put 1 or 3 psi more that recommend
I am the only one who gets the machine output reduced to manufacturer recommended pressure at the petrol pump, otherwise I see the machine at 35 psi and from scotterette to cars, everyone gets the same 35 psi.
Now I haven't seen any of these activas and splendors getting harmed from 35 psi, while manufacturer recommended is around 28 psi. What are the side effects of running a higher psi?
Quick question about tyre pressures - If I'm running a different set of tyres than the stock OEM (but with the same specifications, i.e. size, ratio, speed rating) can I run the same pressures?
Please make a video on tyre quality and ageing. How do I understand when should I change my car & bike tyres?
Different types of air - Nitrogen or normal and if nitrogen what is the pressure s recommend!!?
I check it once in two weeks !
Good topic Shumi, my question is, what if I upsize my tyre, then do I still maintain the manufacturers tyre pressure or should I increase/decrease it?
Say the stock size was 130/80-17 and I up size to a 150/60-17 shd I maintain the same pressure?
Also does the summer heat and long touring in the summer account for tyre blow outs? Should one consider then to lower tyre pressure depending on the commute/tour?
What about riding on frozen roads like in winters in himalayas ? Should the tyre pressure be decreased as the grip is extremely low and bike is skidding all the time ?
Yes. Lower will help. Remember you’ll need to pump it back up later so you must have a pump
Is one side tyre worn-out has anything to do with tyre pressure or is it because of poor suspension set-up?
Backpressure from a muffler, oem, after market, free flow, what are the impacts on engine...
Any recommendations for TPMS systems for Bikes..?
Hi, I own a 2018 KTM DUKE 390 and weight around 120 so would be the recommended tyre pressure for my bike and I mostly drive solo and I usually go for weekends rides to Lonavla, Lavasa and places like those
Need of the hour. Thanks Shumi and team PD👍👍👍
i thought there would be some mention of regular air vs nitrogen, whats the difference.
Hey I just bought NTORQ Race Edition last month
What Should be the optimum tyre pressure
I'm a new rider....
Mostly ride alone sometimes with my friends
Hey shumi, what would be recommended for a bike with a pillion and luggage? 2 psi more than stock? Or will stock work just fine.
Thank you
I always see people fill their activas and other scotties and every other 2 vehicles 40PSI…same as what they fill in car tyres. What are the disadvantages of filling it till that extent?
Thank u
Which is recommended Nitrogen or Normal pressure air?
Does tyre pressure for normal air and Nitrogen air differ ?
Thanks for the info
Tyre pressure is so imp to me bcz my gixxer tyre pressure changes my mileage changes dramatically so I make habit of checking every Sunday 😊
@powerdrift
Hey guys i usd p220 as my daily commute
Do you recommend nitrogen air for my bike and yes i m a heavy weighted rider 110 kg should i run on stock psi or little higher
Highly informative vid. If you could kindly suggest a good affordable tyre inflator.
Is it advisable to lower the stock tyre pressure while riding at higher altitudes like over 10000 feet? Does the pressure increase the higher you go?
Ambient air pressure doesn't affect the pressure in your tyres.
Manufacturers provide optimum tyre pressure for provided tyre set. If I change my tyres, and the profile changes a bit, will the recommended tyre pressure will remain unchanged?
Also, one request, can you please post a video on headlight comparison between led and halogen?
What if we upsize the tyres by 1 size(from 100 to 110 at the front and from 130 to 140 at the rear)? Should the tyre pressure be increased?
I always use 4 psi plus in rear tire .... Sir want to need to know about stock air filter vs aftermarket air filters cons n pros in regular ride / daily commuting / in highways
Good information, thank you. Can you please make a video about how to take a test ride, when you go looking to buy a new bike. What are the essentials, what points have to cover. How to make a smart purchase and lot fall in the dealers trap.
Hello. Great topic.
What pressures would you change if you upsize from 140 to a 150 size tyre.
Wow Shumi, I haven't watched this one yet and another one of Simplified is on. Great Content.
My bike front tyre wearing on right side, I keep 30psi is it correct,
Kindly do a simplified on chain maintenance.
Will rust be removed if lubed and run?
Or whatever rust that's formed is going to stay.
your videos are really great as it touches several aspects which most of us are un aware.
What about tyre pressure in cars?
@powerdrift and @shumi thanking you for this content....regarding commuter motorcycle, can you please give some info on expected variation in tyre pressure when checked in cold & in hot condition (after running for some distance) .....I've seen the difference going above 10 unit when checked in petrol pump
I have vstrom 250 what is the recommend tyre pressure
This series is just amazing. Thanks for simplifying!!
I got myself TVS RR310 this June, Bengaluru. During the first 600km run, I checked the tire pressure in the owner manual and maintained 32 PSi throughout the first run. During the first servicing, the service engineer recommends a completely different tire pressure - front 28, rear 36. I am confused as the R&D team recommends 32 Psi, which contradicts with the service engineers, who are handling issues with the bike on a daily basis.
In such a case. my weight being 65kg, which recommendation should i go for?
KTM 250 adventure vs Dominor 250 vs BMW 310gs which is best for touring, milage and maintaimce?
Great video and very useful information. Q: Isn’t it recommended to get pressure checked on cold tyres? Have seen a lot many check between long rides
Is it good to fill air first thing in the morning rather than filling after riding some time ?
Because if you started riding more distance the tyre will heat up and when take your bike next day the pressure will drop a little bit. Expansion and contraction
Cold checks are more accurate
What’s the recommended tyre pressure for riding on wet, muddy roads with sleet/snow/ice? Will I have better traction (more contact patch) if I drop the tyre pressure for such surfaces? If so, how much of a % drop will improve traction? Or is it trial-and-error? Can you recommend tyre pressures for the following bikes with stock tyres [with *enough* tread life]?
Himalayan
Xpulse stock & knobbies
Adv 390
Tiger xcx/rally pro
Would love to see a video with specific examples.
For hardcore offroading, you can drop the pressures. Shumi does talk about that in the video.
Anyone knows videos on tyre life after punchers? In case on tubless..!
@PowerDrift I have question regarding head lamp Mount on bikes
I have an Xpulse 200 which has headlight mounted on handle bars. Since I frequently ride in Western ghats which has little to no reflectors and street lights, Riding bikes such as Xpulse helps. Whenever I turn handle bar, light beam falls right along to the pointed direction. But in bikes such as Himalayan or Pulsar 180f, where light falls straight ahead regardless of where you point your handle bar. Why certain bike manufactures choose this design over previous one. Himalayan like head lamp designs has certain disadvantages in corners.
