  • We all think we need to modify motorcycles and there are some very good reasons to do it too. But there, and many don’t realise this, great reasons why your stock motorcycle, without any changes, is already capable of delivering more than you can handle. In this episode of The PowerDrift Podcast, Shumi talks about his approach to this rather ticklish subject.

Shumi's Pearls of Wisdom.. Hands down practical and perfect..
I do agree that most of times Aux Lights are not needed and irritating especially when there is a nut shining his sun in your eyes.. But the stock bulbs can also be crap..
For the first night ride i had on my Z, i was almost running blind with the stock bulbs.. Changed it to LED's and all is good..
Opted for a engine guards instead of regular crash bars..
Increased the seat height slightly and am much more comfortable with the position it offers..
My one true gripe is the sponginess of the brakes.. Need ur advice, steel braided lines or a new master cylinder??

    • @shu_mar
      @shu_mar 3 роки тому +3

@@belsonkoshy7884 First chuck the DOT4 and go to 5.1. If that doesn’t work, braided lines. Still no? Change the pads to a more aggressive one. Still no? Master cylinder.

Shumi, you are the awesomely wise (beardless) sage of Motorcycling. Thanks for sharing your passion and wisdom with us.
I agree with you completely, I always like to do functional mods to the bike, after a long ride, if something on my bike constantly takes my attention off from the ride, I will usually adjust or mod it. Usually it is something small, but after it is done it increases the Joy of riding.
I had not thought about Sprockets on increasing bike mileage along with performance. Please make a video if you do get a chance (or share a few links on this), as increasing tank range without too much sacrifice on performance adds to the joy of the ride as well.

Wise words! I've been running on a sprocket with lesser teeth at the back for 2+ years and it had a significant role to play, I get more range and the power delivery is better and smooth. I'm planning to get auxiliary lights with filter caps for the reason that was mentioned. Got a handlebar riser because I needed one for comfort and the seat is still stock but I have an air cushion now for very long rides (700+).
Never felt the need for an exhaust or anything else and I still do great :)
Thank you Shumi for this, it was needed!

Its a great podcast and absolutely professional advice! Thank you and keep coming with more such videos. :)
I have a duke 390, 2016 and clocked around 50k on it. I am not very happy with the breaks especially the front ones which are the most imp for me with the stock organic pads. I tried to adress it by changing pads to a ceramic and sintered ones and the adjustable levers from the new 390. The sintered pads offer much improved initial bite but it sometimes is too much for a Pirelli rosso 2 to handle. One advice i got was to change the rear pads to sintered and use rear break a bit more than what i usually use so that abs wont kick in.
Recently I came across this racing boy radial master cylinder. From what I know, it will not improve the breaking as such but the feeling and the feedback will be improved significantly. Whats your thought on it @Shumar? thanks in advance

Try changing the fluid from the stock Dot4 to Dot5.1! It's the cheapest mod but everyone jumps to more complex things first!

Very needed discussion. A lot of people modify bikes just for the sake of it. Without realising if they really need that.

Awesome video but I had some doubts. You're saying at the top of the line exhausts and power upgrades are a waste which I can agree too. But what if we were at the bottom end of the spectrum. I completely believe what you said about the exhaust, and currently owning a NS200 I'm not even looking at exhaust. But I see my future self someday owning a Daytona in which case I would put an exhaust. I don't mind if the exhaust even loses power as long as it sounds good. I firmly believe riding experience is also affected by the sound of the car/motorcycle. What would your thoughts be on this? Also as I said I own a NS200. I was actually thinking of extracting more power out of it by maybe adding an ECU and a new Air filter. Would that be useful in my case.

Shumi bhai as allways very informative Podcast.
But you forgot to mention, may be just 5-10% people think about performance while modifying their exhausts... The rest just wanted to do it for boomboom n attention😀😀
