I think this is why they went ahead and raised prices. Rather than build in more capacity with new lands they raised prices to keep people out. They just need to understand that when they disrespect and shake off millions of fans they will stay away for life.
I just wish they would build a 5th full scale park! Magic Kingdom Animal Kingdom Epcot Hollywood Studios A 5th park would at least alleviate these huge crowds, if only a little bit. Anything would help.
@@Afurthyclays Now they are using ticket prices as a kind of pesticide to keep crowds down. They are going to go too far and never be able to come back if they are not careful. Fans will become lifelong enemies.
Orlando Tourist Traps That’s exactly what I’m afraid of. The Disney Co doesn’t seem too concerned about this delicate balance. Sad, to think that a 2 week vacation to Hawaii is dirt cheap, compared to just 5 days in Disney World.
I've been going every year since I was little, and Disney used to be affordable in the 90s. Walt Disney would be sad that all families can't experience the magic because it's crazy expensive now.
its not. park tickets are relatively the same or even cheaper than when Walt was alive. yes other things are expensive like food drinks and hotels but the parks are way bigger now than when walk was alive they need to be sustained with other money. in 1966 disneyland ticket was around 10 bucks, which would be 86 in today's money with inflation, right now tickets to disneyland start at 75 for out of state people I think and in state it's less than that.
if you go every year you understand what you get for the money and I think it's worth it. yeah its not for everyone, It's sad but it's true. most people can't afford vacations to places like this. it's just the way the world is, the prices are determined by what people would be willing to pay for them. supply and demand.

@Fox Lover Fox Lover you're right! Where at: Universal, SeaWorld, a hotel nearby? They all pay the same. Don't say go to school and get a degree either, because I work at the parks and even I have my schooling payed for by them. I think they should consider more benefits or perks that can be dialed up and down based on park performance. Just raising all hourly pay rates they could back themselves into an unsustainable corner, especially if unions smell blood in the water. I think things like park tickets for family and friends and meal coupons could be a useful and manageable way to compensate low wage workers.
@Sir We Are About to Die You go bankrupt if you do that LOL, you can go to their water parks because they are not in high demand and cheaper than the parks and less crowded.
I go to Disney World about 5 times a week and the prices change every day on the ticket price boards at the park. Weekends are more expensive than week days typically. Sometimes it is $117 but on weekends I have noticed the price goes up to $135 and that is for one park. The park hopper option is $60 or more. Geeze. To do what you want at Disney World you should expect to pay about $200 per day just to get in, bring $100 or more for food and snacks, and another $100 to buy a few souvenirs. And then there is Star Wars Land. $200 for a light saber (Who cares) and $100 for a droid (Cheap, small and who cares) and $30 for two drinks at Olgas Cantina (Now we are talking) Blue/Green Soy Milk stand (Skip it or try it once). I love Disney parks and want them to succeed and make tons of money but I think they could back off on how many tons of money they seperate from their guests. I think they have already crossed the tipping point and have angered a huge segment of fans.

That is absolutely not Disney's fault, it's California's. No one is forcing those people to live in southern California, one of the most expensive places to live. Disney actually pays pretty well for the job they're doing, but California cost of living is outrageous. If they adjusted the pay to cost of living, it would probably cost them billions. Dear American Families, pack your bags and come over to Europe. We have amazing themeparks at way better value than Disney or Universal. If you have little kids or toddlers the Efteling is the most magical place you can imagine (with rides that could rival Disney’s). If you have kids or teenagers you should visit Phantasialand (they have themed thrillrides Disney could only dream of and Universal could only copy). Lastly we have Europa Park, one of the biggest themeparks in Europe with triple the amount of attractions (all within beautiful themed areas resembling all the nations in Europe) and operations that Disney could only dream of. We also have a Disneyland in Paris. It’s expensive, poorly maintained and the staff makes the experience anything but magical. So treat your kids to a trip further away and explore what’s out there. In Europe we value middle class families and you’re all treated equal. Hope to see you guys on the other side of the Atlantic!
@Jyoeru Zaberu Efteling is around $50 admission. Europapark and Phantasialand are $60. Flights are dirtcheap these days with rates of $350. Staying in onsite hotels isn't very expensive aswel and public transport is very good in Europe. Trust me you'll save at least a $1000 on your Disney Holiday.
Waarom? We also need passports, and depending on how many people you have in your family $350 could be expensive but I do understand that you are going to Europe which I hear is beautiful

I mean, people say they would never go but if offered a free/pre-paid trip not a lot of people would refuse. Surprisingly it's a lot of lower class people going to these parks also, so it's def not the 1% keeping Disney's pockets full, that's never a good business strat. I've personally met people who take an additional job and work so much they ignore family, just to go on a Disney cruise every year. I've personally known people who are working at minimum wage and spend all their income on luxury designer clothes.

I was the same as you. I always thought it was for little kids.. then one day a friend invited me to go to Disneyland for free! He knew a "cast member" there. It was SOOOOOOO much fun! You have to go at least once! Seriously..
I was a private tour-guide at Disneyland, CA (I actually knew that tour-guide shown in the video) and NOBODY gets paid $25 an hour, private tour-guides start at minimum wage, and their wages increase by 3% every year. If they come from other departments and happen to make a little more than minimum wage (I'm talking, a dollar more) then you get to keep that wage. But tour-guides do not earn more than $15 an hour, unless they've been doing it for more than 15 years. And I always thought it was unfair that Disney saw my knowledge and experience worth charging over $600 per hour (minimum of 6 hours), but yet I didn't get to see anything close to that amount of money.
They're already charging a whopping $45 a DAY to park your damn car. It's hardly any more expensive to FLY from Atlanta, GA! That's why I'll never go to Disney again. And no, I don't miss it. My last trip was not as fun as I expected.
It’s a real shame to see Walt’s vision taking this sort of turn. He was a businessman, sure, but he also designed parks like Epcot (originally intended as an actual city design) to be a place that encapsulated mans ability to create and to inspire ingenuity for the future. I t was meant to represent man at his best and was meant for everyone. I really do love Disney and their magic, but in recent years it’s been hard to associate the Disney of now with the Disney if my childhood. The corporate machine sucks up other companies left and right and beats other parks into submission by making their own bigger and better and using the material of these other companies to their advantage. I went to Disney several years ago, before talks about Pandora were even a thing and the Diagon Alley area in US was still rumor. A middle class family could stay for a week in a cheaper hotel resort like pirates bay (idk what it was actually called) and maybe have a fancy dinner or two at one of the really nice hotels (we went to the Polynesian for dinner one night). That same trip now would be almost triple the price my family paid just a few years ago. I can’t think of a deeper betrayal to Walt’s vision than the way Disney treats its customers now. Sure, there’s always a place for VIP treatment for those who are willing to pay for it, but I think Disney is making a bad move here by moving away from the people that made them into what they are in the first place. If these prices had been around when my family went, we wouldn’t have gone, plain and simple. Disney is a magic place where dreams come true, but if you can’t pay for those dreams then you never get to experience that.
Rebeccah if he became alive again he would be furious at the new ceos of Disney. How they are reaking in millions while sitting in their chairs all comfy.
Walt was insanely irresponsible with money and nearly ran the company into the ground. He could have a nice vision all he wanted, but reality is much different.
Also, we(middle class family) stayed at the Poly 9 years ago and 4 years ago and current prices are not "triple" what we paid then. So I have no idea what you mean by "just a few years ago." When we went in October, there were people there from ALL walks of life.
Well, I go for both and it still doesn't feel like its worth the insane $110 single day ticket. In the early 1990s, it was only $121 for THREE DAYS!!! Their greed is too much to make the ticket worth the price.
I never got the appeal of these shows. They always seemed like glorified children's performances to me. And I'm almost jealous, because it looks like many people genuinely enjoy them.
It’s honestly the best experience I’ve ever had in my life and was worth every penny. I used to hate on Disney as well until my girlfriend convinced me to go with her and it was amazing.
@Jayson Brady lol tbh if u go to disney with no experience and know nothing its not that fun it seems scary and so many people and the lines are forever. I have been going to disney my whole life and would say I know the best ways to spend your vacation while spending the bare minimum. You are gonna have to deal with waiting around but thats just the disney experience but if u can plan out your day and know when the crowds are and are willing to wake up early and stay up late you will have fun. Also you need park hopper thats the big thing that will make the trip fun without it you can get bored of the park especially if all the rides have 2 hour waits. If you ever go to disney go with someone who has experience
As an American in France...the "Yellow Vests" would protest to bring the price of a day a Disney down. As a result a day at Disney is 50 to 70 dollars! When the middle class stands up for itself, things happen. We go to Disneyland here in France each year. Sometimes twice a year. When I go back home to California each summer....I think we only go once in only a special time....at $150 per person for a day at Disneyland.... It is no longer just a fun day at an amusement park.... A family of four can maybe go on a week vacation to Mexico for the same price as a weekend at Disneyland.
Thank you for not being ignorant. Disney employs millions of people all over the world in different ways. I'm Orlando, their biggest resort and they are raising their minimum wage to $15. Just think about how much that is in paying employees alone. Plus water, electricity, food costs, new rides, maintenance, cleaning products, etc. People just don't get it.
@@deedeledeet Mixed. Many of the 20 to early 30 staff live in provided accommodation and earn descent money given that they have next to no cost of living while at work. However it's very seasonal employment and not necessarily a classic 9·to·5 job but universally well respected job credential in the hospitality industry - for future employment. The full employment "regular" staff would be considered normal employment the problem is that a physical Disney presence raises the average cost of living in it's intermediate neighborhood into astronomical heights, that is particular problematic in Florida - less so in Paris or Tokyo where the cost of living by virtue of location to the respective capitals of those countries is already high. Which makes the lower income brackets in Florida somewhat a precarious form of employment unless one has a rent agreement in perpetuity or owns _ex ante_ housing close to Disney. I'd complete this with the thesis that Disney's «magic» is indeed very much the result of extensive staffing and the unique experience result of human labour and associated cost. On a mere technical level are Disney Parks not necessarily unique or even innovative. In Europe there is a so called "Europa park" (Germany) that is a mainly a result of the operators need to sometimes build demonstration rides (rollercoasters) for customers as their initial operation was actually the engineering of rollercoasters as a result but also in Disneyland Paris you have somewhat a more resourceful approach on staffing as labour cost is of much higher floor pricing which in turn makes these parks appear somewhat less magical though pragmatical the provided rides and services are the same. That is also mirrored in the US with for example six flags almost missing any pretense of being a theme park but also MGM who's magic stems mostly from intellectual property theming. In some ways does Disney concede to the same pressures though in Animal Kingdom do animals generally perform good merely for treating them as their specimens and Star Wars derives much from emotional sentimentality as well. Whereas a park like the magical Kingdom would, for a person illiterate to Western culture be an awfully archaic themed yesteryear theme park who's sole charm pertains from the flawless performance of the parks personnel, whereas the rides like "it's a small world" have almost more cultural significance as being the presumable inspiration to an entire trope of theme park horror movies ( ua-cam.com/video/7tbm4Au3dZ0/v-deo.html ) that turn creepy and dark with the boat ride and animatronics deep in the uncanny valley ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_valley ). In conclusion the most magical of Disney theme parks would probably be in a low wage developing country where "magic" can be performed at low cost due to highly motivated staff being paid comparatively well but low in absolute terms, speaking of the Bahamas 🚢🇧🇸 disneycruise.disney.go.com/ Cruise ships - _miniature colonial vassalage in a vessel™_ (don't be an asshole, either you plan tip money or you shouldn't book a cruise). If you really just be interested in thrilling rides you could take authentic overland taxi rides in India for a fraction of the cost 😆 and actually learn something about the world.
I rarely say this but I wish that video was longer! Fascinating and it confirms what I've suspected for years about Disney. Let's abandon the 'little people' that kept up going all these years in favour of the rich. It's very sad and as an old Disney employee once told me, not what Walt would have wanted.
It's because my dumb friends recently found interest and humor in the sprite Drake commercials from a few years ago and jumped at the chance to stare making fun of sprite cranberry commercials when people with in the community started associating it with the meme.
They're just as bad as Disney. Their ticket prices are just as expensive, just look at their hopper tickets, which you need if you want to ride the Harry Potter train. At least Disney has friendly and well trained employees, while half of Universal's employees are rude and grumpy who don't give a shit about guests.
@@TheOnlyJohnAbraham Indeed, it's obviously their marketing strategy to even get one-day guests to buy a park hopper ticket, which costs a friggin $169 in low season ($184 in peak season) for one adult.
I went to Disneyland once when I was 10 and didn’t see what the big deal was. Went back when I was 17 and still didn’t see what the hype was about. I’m 30 now and I don’t think I’d ever go back. Disney was just not for me. 🤷♀️
I use to live in Florida, so I got the Florida season passed for me and my family about 4 years in a row. I think we paid about $700+ between 2003-07. And around $100+ at Disney land Paris. I’m glad my daughter is in college now, I don’t have to worry about those long line anymore. If I remember correctly each park had 2-3 thrilling rides and maybe one good show for adults. The resorts were good but if you are spending time there you not at the parks.
If you go during off seasons and stay in the all star resorts, then the price is just that of a reasonable vacation. Additionally, now if you stay in one of their resorts you get unlimited fast passes, even though it only says 3. Vacation somewhere cheaper for summer and winter...
Not to mention that before you even get to the park, you must pay $25 dollars to park whatever vehicle you're driving. We did the math over Thanksgiving week, while we were there in Orlando. Before you even arrive inside the park, Disney has made close to $250,000.00 in parking fees alone. That's per day. Also, your currency while inside the park is your time. Let me repeat that, you're worth is in how much time you have to see and do everything Disney has to offer. Disney knows this so even when the park is not full, Disney controls the flow of traffic by placing workers, attendants, and assistance at various locations OR not at all...You could be waiting for a ride for 2 hours when the park is full and come back to the same park a different day when the park is not full and still wait for that ride for 2 hours....this is done through controlling the flow of traffic. The Fast Pass system is your only ticket to beating the control Disney has over the flow of traffic. We took our 3 and 6 year olds 4 weeks ago. Long story short, we'll go back, BUT it won't be for at least 5 years. I've never been more tired in my life.
Yep. We're a family of 6 when my kids were growing up in the late 90s, early 00s and we had passes for all 6 of us when we lived in SoCal. For a SINGLE Platinum pass,we had passes for all of us including two unlimited passes for the wife and I and we'd renew one kid's pass on a blackout date which meant only paying the difference for 3 kids as well as being able to go whenever we wanted which was about once a month. We got into pin trading and generally had a GREAT time. I've lived in Central FL for 12 years now and I've yet to go to DisneyWorld. Too expensive. It's a shame because Walt Disney was alive when I was a kid. I remember how important it was to him for FAMILIES to be able to partake. Oh well. At least we have the memories, I guess...
Reminds me over the years when I read articles about them raising the prices and always had people say "Well who cares? It's just 20 more dollars!" Though ov the years it kept getting bumped up a little more and a little more until it got super expensive. Had a chance to visit Flordia again recently for the first time in awhile and used to always visit Disney or Universal but when I saw the prices Univeral had a promotion for a 4 day park hopper pass and it was cheaper then a single day at 1 Disney park. I still love Disney and the magic the parks have and would be willing to pay more to go there but with such a wide prices discrepancy it is harder to justify buying a Disney ticket over a Universal one.
Reason number 1: They are profit base company. Reason 2: They are testing the market. Will people pay more? Reason 3: insurance, wages, electricity ... Operating costs went up.
Disney is quite generous to its long employees my mom used to work at a Disney store that is not closed and we get 5 annual passes every year in the mail for free they just show up don’t even need to request them we also get a 60% discounts on Disney resorts
Sadly one of the top reasons I dropped my season pass was the price hike. I can't justify $94 a month for 1 just Disneyland when I can get 3 Seasons passes from surrounding theme parks for about $60 a month, no blackout dates and meal discounts or complete meal vouchers.. That and the over crowding. It's faaaar to crowded to be able to even enjoy Disneyland anymore.
Went to Disney this year with my fam, honestly not that expensive. Booked my own hotel 5 miles away from the parks. For 4 of us it turned out to be around $2300 which includes airfare, tickets to all 4 parks, hotel, etc
@Hammerschlägen M 4. One day each park tho epcot's really not that worth it for me since I've actually been to most of the countries they were showcasing
I feel like my memories of Disney really aren't that great. Like, the vacations I remember most are the simple roadtrips where we just took our time exploring stuff and had a good time. Disney was so much in so little time that I only remember vague snapshots, like a few rollercoasters, maybe a couple cool shops, and that's kinda it.
Disney used to reward kids in CA with a free ticket if you earn it in school (I.e., good grades, etc). Not sure if that program still exists. They invest in the communities.
I went to Disney World as a kid and we didn't even stay for a whole day. It was too hot and us kids were more into waterparks than rollercoasters, so we ended up giving the tickets to someone else. I hope they enjoyed it more than we did.
@@technicolortabby4239 Its the micro aggressive people and racist they should be focusing on keeping out. But sometimes you have to let people like Ron have their little racist fantasies.
I went about 10 years ago to Disney World and a bottle of water cost $3. I can buy a 24 pack of spring water at Aldi for under $3. And Disney probably sells filtered tap water, and I can't imagine what it costs now. I started drinking their fountain tap water and ended up getting so sick I threw up on an Epcot spaceship ride.
But we go during “off peak” and every year it’s busier and busier. Last year it was as bad as spring break/summer vacation in the 90s, and at some parks as bad as Christmas in the 90s. Last Christmas/New Years I went was in 2005. That time was free, and at a deluxe resort too. Had I’ve been given the opportunity again, you’d have to pay me to go. I can’t even imagine how bad it is now.
I really only want to go for Halloween or Christmas but now with the pandemic and how it's become horrendously expensive I'd rather go to the wizarding world of Harry Potter now.

Unpopular opinion: Disney is overrated to people who just wants to go on rides. I don’t really go for shows
Well, I go for both and it still doesn't feel like its worth the insane $110 single day ticket. In the early 1990s, it was only $121 for THREE DAYS!!! Their greed is too much to make the ticket worth the price.
Me a theater kid who knows if I wanted to watch the shows in a broadway form it would cost more then Disney: yeah I totally agree 😢
I never got the appeal of these shows. They always seemed like glorified children's performances to me. And I'm almost jealous, because it looks like many people genuinely enjoy them.
As a person who doesn't like rides I actually like the theming more

It’s not really a rip off it is a great experience. I think you should go at least once if your able to.

Yeah bro
That is crazy expensive
If anyone wants to to go abroad they can go on freaking tour in Hawaii or somewhere
Last year I compared vacation prices of Disney and an international location. The international destination was 40% cheaper.

I'd like to see their true operating cost before I'd judge. It cost $$$ to create that magic.🤔🇺🇸
I’d like to see how they treat their employees first
I think I read somewhere an estimate of over 3.5 billion dollars operating cost for all the parks
@@deedeledeet I'm a former cast member at Hollywood Studios at Disney World, feel free to ask questions.
In conclusion the most magical of Disney theme parks would probably be in a low wage developing country where "magic" can be performed at low cost due to highly motivated staff being paid comparatively well but low in absolute terms, speaking of the Bahamas 🚢🇧🇸 disneycruise.disney.go.com/
Cruise ships - _miniature colonial vassalage in a vessel™_ (don't be an asshole, either you plan tip money or you shouldn't book a cruise).

I rarely say this but I wish that video was longer! Fascinating and it confirms what I've suspected for years about Disney.

It’s not hard to work, just don’t be lazy
That 250,000 is nearly impossible to calculate... hard to get even close
Simple they know people would go no matter the price
Grandparents will put it on credit card🙄I truly don't want 15-20 members of extended family with me on vacation anywhere.
Honestly, I dont see any reason to visit the park with this price. There is waaaay more fun stuff to do with that money.
Reason number 1: They are profit base company.
Reason 2: They are testing the market. Will people pay more?
Reason 3: insurance, wages, electricity ... Operating costs went up.
Disney has their own power plant so they don’t need to worry about the cost of electricity
MaxyZgamez no they don’t

If you had faith in the Disney franchise, u buy the shares. Not the souvenirs and annual pass
I question how immersive that is.

But we go during “off peak” and every year it’s busier and busier. Last year it was as bad as spring break/summer vacation in the 90s, and at some parks as bad as Christmas in the 90s.
