Hardcore Bombs on Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

  • Two friends, Korovin and Spirit, are here to help me disarm some of the hardest bombs that Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes has to offer. This was originally streamed live. We warm up with some easier bombs, then the hardcore stuff starts at 9:00
    Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is an asymmetrical multiplayer game. One player is the defuser and sees a bomb that has a ton of complicated switches, wires, and other puzzles. The other players, the experts, have the bomb defusal manual. The experts must walk the defuser through all of the bomb's puzzles, the catch is that the experts can't see the bomb and the defuser can't see the manual. If you want to follow along with the bomb manual, you can get it at www.bombmanual.com
    I originally streamed this at midnight on October 5, 2015. Since it was midnight, there were some .... silly mistakes made. The full game is available on October 8, 2015 on Steam (link below).

    They should do tournaments with this game. They could set up rules such as how big teams can be.

      +Ofordgabings Wouldn't they have to extend the game significantly? I have only made it to chapter 3 with a buddy, but doesn't it seem like an autist could memorize most of this?

      +HSSLNG They can just release a new manual with different rules. :)

      i think the game should randomly generate manuals using a seed that you have to send to the expert

    • @Ofordgabings
      @Ofordgabings 8 років тому +17

      HSSLNG Teams would play several games and average out the times. People would be competing for most time left, so the margin for error is 0 across multiple bombs. The tournament pressure would be immense. And this would be I am Hardcore, not chapter 3 stuff. Yes, a single person can memorize the entire manual, but ask KrazyCaley on how difficult that is.

    It's refreshing to watch people who get this game. If you know how it works, it's very frustrating watching people who don't read the manual properly...

    • @40GamesAG
      @40GamesAG 8 років тому +16

      Keep in mind, nobody's going to fully understand the manual at first. It takes practice and trial and error.

    • @JorWat25
      @JorWat25 8 років тому +19

      +KentuckyWallChicken I think what frustrates me is when they make a mistake, (for example, thinking the colour of the button determines when it should be released) then get confused that it didn't work, and can't work out what went wrong. It makes you want to shout out "Read the manual carefully! You need to look at the stripe!"
      EDIT: I think what I want is people to have at least looked at the manual before they start playing (including the Defuser). I've seen too many videos when they clearly have never seen it, with Experts having to read through the whole thing each time, and the Defuser not knowing what information is needed, and having to explain what each module looks like.

    • @JonglerLegoblob
      @JonglerLegoblob 8 років тому +2

      +JorWat25 To be fair, they dont give you all the info on the packet either. IE in memory, it doesnt say on the packet that the buttons change positions afaik

    • @JorWat25
      @JorWat25 8 років тому +4

      +Aikurō Mikisugi Yes, but most of the errors I've seen are people messing up things that are in the manual, like the maze walls being invisible, or the colour of the light strip denoting when to release the button, not the button itself.

    10:42 "The real trick is to solve the bomb before the lights come on."
    This is actually very doable, it just requires a little luck. You need a press and release button, then guess on simple wires and symbols. It's definitely not easy, especially as you can easily mess up the symbols if you don't know it right off, but absolutely doable.

    I'm going to make the Needy Knob very easy for you. Ignore the right half, just look at the left 2 rows of 3 lights. If 1 or less lights are lit, its left. If a total of 4 lights are lit, it's up. If the lights make a full "U" (so 1, 0, 1 and second row 1, 1, 1) then it's right. Otherwise it's down. Now you can do the Needy Knob in a split second without having to ask. If you have anything else you'd like to be able to do faster let me know and I'll see if I can't simplify them as well :)

    • @NeoFryBoy
      @NeoFryBoy 8 років тому +13

      +Derek Chapman Doesn't that defeat the purpose? As the leader he's not supposed to know how to defuse any of the bomb parts. He just passes info around.

    • @Ofordgabings
      @Ofordgabings 8 років тому +23

      +NeoFryBoy If they make the modules easy enough for the defuser to memorize, there's no point in wasting time waiting for an answer you already know (from memory, not by cheating by actually reading off the manual).

    • @TheUltraBulbasaur
      @TheUltraBulbasaur 8 років тому +2

      +Ofordgabings Same way with some of the complicated wires, like how some of them such as just blank, white, no LED are always cut

    • @elliottbarker1595
      @elliottbarker1595 8 років тому +2

      +Derek Chapman Could you simplify Mazes for me? I have trouble conveying the co-ords of the circles, square and the triangle.

    • @nitrodog96
      @nitrodog96 8 років тому +4

      +Douglas Scott I can simplify that.
      Imagine it's a Battlefield game. The columns are lettered; first column is A, second column is B, etc. The rows are numbered; first row is 1, second row is 2, etc. If the circles are in fifth column second row and third column fourth row, they are in E2 and C4. Then you say where the triangle and dot are and you're off, as long as your expert(s) isn't/aren't an imbecile(s).
      That was a lot of compensating for plausible pluralities.

    IMHO the fastest way to do memory is the defuser calling out only the display and the position, and actually remembering the labels pressed. And perhaps also memorizing the last step directions for that purpose, since all of those are about those labels, so that after the fourth step no time is wasted on communication.

      As an expert, having your own system to very quickly and concisely write down notes is useful (for instance for the complex wires or memory), as well as just generally having a system to work things out (for instance for the wire sequences to letters I find it useful to have the page printed out and place fingers at the appropriate rows); otherwise you don't need to memorize anything, really.
      As a defuser, you should be able to give the needed information in a concise way that the experts understand and can use to quickly take their notes (for instance having a system to quickly describe the complex wires). You can try to memorize some of the stuff (whether consciously or not), such as if you know Morse code or the possible passwords, but it isn't essential even for these hard levels.

    Hey, I have a few questions about needy modules:
    1) How many seconds does each start with? The capacitor seems to be 45 and the knob 40 (or 39?)...
    2) Does the gas-venting one reset all the way when you vent the gas, or does venting just add a certain number of seconds?
    3) Does the knob one only change its "up" position upon reactivation, or can it happen while the timer is ticking down? How about the LED configuration?

    If you don' t want to make the manual too cheesed out with complex wires, at LEAST just mark the circles for blue and red with a blue and red marker/colored pencil should help a lot.

    When doing the 1-2-3/A-B-C wires do they not need to know from where is the wire going? Like they say blue to B, never saying like blue going from two to B etc.

    At 42:11, you did hit blue twice as the light did extinguish. And there was a vowel (U) (41:54).
