Great video, lots of detail. Mine was out of a 95 sl500 722.3. Initially, the main problem was a rumbling sound when the car was decelerating while in gear but stop when put in neutral. Unfortunately, I was unable to fix the problem after rebuilding it, though I was able to take care of some other issues. Any suggestions or possibilities what I may have overlook? Thanks!
Thanks. I would be looking at the 2 Guibo's. They are the rubber coupling on the driveshaft. Also look at the carrier bearing. I don't think it is in the transmission.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Thank you very much! I appreciate your response and appreciate your advice, it's invaluable!!!!
Awesome video. I just did a fluid change on mine recently. I used pentosin atf6. I have noticed it holds a higher rpm in drive at idle. Would this be a cause of concern?
Possibly. It has a different viscocity which may cause problems.
Great video my car has same transmission 722.370 I was driving on the freeway and the car has no issues at all. I got to where I was going. I turn off the car our leader I came back. I turned on the car and it was no gears at all reverse no drive no nothing. I dropped the pan. I change the oil filter and I cleaned the bulb and nothing has been changed.
Hard to say what has happened. Maybe a broken pump.
Great video, thanks for sharing
Is there any kind of pump priming required after doing this kind of rebuild? I though you would have filled parts up with ATF during the build.
Not needed. If you feel the need by all means do it. If you fill the torque converter with fluid before installing it, it will drain into the pump.
Very helpful video! Appreciate you taking the time to record it. What would a job like this cost?
Thanks. I don't do pricing so I don't know what they are getting now but I would guess in the 2-2500 range.
My transmission is flaring in every gear but when it shifts into third and I drive for over 20 minutes I will lose third gear. Do you know if this calls for a rebuild?
@@chrisromanczuk1468 Hey bro I know it's a lot of money. However best bet is rebuilding your transmission especially with us early w140 92-95. It's costs me $2200CAD I bought a used donor transmission for $300 and paid $1900 labour. My cars transmission is like brand new now it's unbelievable the way the car feels and it'll be good for another 20 years no problems if you drive it smooth.
@@aliallaudin7741 I changed the fluid and filter Trans is fine now.
@@chrisromanczuk1468 even better👌👌
Thanks for the video my W 124.133 300 Turbo diesel years 1992 Gearbox 722.3 3450000km reverse gear problem.I want change oil first but I think I need to change reverse friction discs.Do you made a video for this ? Thanks for sharing big up have good vibes
Hello I just bought a 1987 300sdl w126 I believe they have the 722.3 trans
I bought it with reverse only. The owner says it was rebuilt 80k miles ago
He says he was driving it and the next day there was reverse only.
The car looks like new inside and out . I only paid $500 for it. Any Idea on what it would cost to fix it. I love the w126 cars and it is too nice to go to the wrecking yard. And advice would be greatly appreciated. I have replaced 5 or 6 transmission just never really got into them.
You never know what you will have till you get in there, so there is no way to know what it will cost. Look above the pan on the passengers side, your transmission number will be stamped there. Since it has been rebuilt, the first thing I would look at is the B2 servo. It is towards the rear on the drivers side. If it has the later "T" style seal I would take the servo to a machine shop and have them cut a 30* angle on the back side, side towards the outside, where the Teflon seal sits. They are bad about not sealing properly and will cause a no forward. That seal or the rubber one to the front may not be sealing properly.
Nice where can I get the rebuilding kit from ?
WIT or Transtar, links are in the description.
Hello Thanks sharing video.I have years 1992 Mercedes w124.133 300 turbo Diesel automatic gearbox 722.3 my reverse speed have problem do you make video for this please? Thanks before for your help
Big up have good vibes
Thanks for watching. For just replacing the reverse clutches, no I do not have a video for that. To replace them all that needs to be done is to remove the pump and then you will have access to them.
is this a 300e running second gear start ?
An S500. Don't remember if it was a second gear start. Most are.
What brand rebuild kit do you recommend for these
I would get parts for these from Jaggi's Imports. If you can't deal with him, Frudenberg NOK.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission Thank you for the reply, this video and the 4L60E video were super helpful
@@arhamahmed1701 Glad it helped.
Got a strange problem in that the car will shift into first if I punch it off the line but will not start in first gear by putting it into “B” which activates the kick down solenoid. I have tested the solenoid with 12 volts and it does click and move. Tranny works just fine except to start out in first gear via solenoid??
Great video, have watched it 3x
There is a valve in the upper valve body that is called governor boost valve. If the spring is between the valve and end plug it takes off in 2nd. If it is behind the valve or no spring it takes off in 1st. Is your unit a .370? Give me the year make model and tranny number and I will look up what it is supposed to do. Sounds like it is working the way it is set up to. Go to my Instagram and I can get a picture to you.
It is a .353 in a 1991 500sl
@@chrisshaw4243 It is supposed to take off in 2nd.
I know it is, but the b mode which activates the solenoid will let you start in 1st gear. Solenoid works but no 1st gear start. It used to work when activated, but not anymore.
Just curious what the solenoid activates so it will start in First gear again. I’d like to get it fixed, but nobody can give me an answer the possible reasons why it isn’t.
Thanks in advance
Chris
is this a rebuild of a mercedes 91’ 300SE
No, that should be a 722.4. It is similar, but there are some major differences. To know exactly which transmission is in there. Look just above the pan on the passenger side towards the front. There will be a series of numbers there. 722.???
Which belong to w202.type C200 or what?
Only listing I have is 722.424
hi, I have a 722.3 transmission that suddenly lost all gears. The first reason was the wheel of the turbine's oil pump, which had broken and that didn't help, i.e. the gears still didn't work even though I put a new wheel. Now I found 2 burnt clutch plates, so is that the reason why there are no gears in my gearbox. Mercedes 190d om602turbo
Need to check line pressure first. If you have line pressure you probably have a problem with the switching on accumulator rings and/or cracked accumulator. Or the switching on accumulator control valve is stuck. If you don't it probably broke the pump again. If the pump is broken again you will need to take a close look at some things. Crankshaft float. Flywheel broken or warped. Missing dowel pins in the block used to line up the transmission. Torque converter hub.
@@CurmudgeonTransmission thank you very much for your answer. My English is really bad and I use google translator to help me. What do you mean by line pressure? Do you mean that vacuum modulator on the side of the transmission
There is a pressure port just above the pan on the passenger side of the transmission about mid way. You will need a fluid pressure gauge and the correct attachment to check it. Should be at least 60 psi.
New vi-ton o-rings would be better and keep clutch drum from leaking leading to sipping shifts and use orange lock-tite on screws. make sure to little ball bearing on drum is OK.
Replacing one or two 2 of the clutch plates with thicker ones (can order from dealer) will make for a smoother shift, MBZ tolerances are to loose, making a harder shift.
Not be a complainer but, how do you rebuild any transmission or engine with an unorganized dirty work station like yours. I've rebuilt over 450 MBZ trans type 1,2,3, and 4 and 200+ MBZ engines and my experience has told me having a clean organized area are a a major part in producing a consistent quality long lasting product. Their are upgrades to the valve body to smooth shifting like flap valves. A separate station just for valve bodies is essential. If your not going to rebuild the valve body then you should remove it and place it in a large zip lock bag making sure you don't tilt on its side or upside down. doing so may lead to valves sticking valve body. I think I'm going to do some valve body rebuild videos. why aren't you
soaking the clutch plates in tranny fluid while your building trans?
