    In here most of the AT specialists doesn't give attention when restoring it as near as you do. Great work as always.

      @@MMWA-DAVE it is concerning but don't underestimate yourself. If you are capable the best job is done by yourself. (Except paintjob, upholstery, installing windshield glass and things like that.) :D

    Thank you so much very good explanations, very comprehensive and a good guide for my 722.311 mercedes sec 1983. I had a leak at my original aut. gear box and bought another one but after a short time it leaked as well.

    The idea of doing the K1 piston retainers "as one unit" proved to be absolutely integral for the rebuild I'm doing now. Trying to assemble the whole deal by 1st installing the snap ringed retainer, and then the sealed piston was fuckin' impossible. Thanks!

    Great video and it gives me confidence to work with my 722.3 on R107 300SL. It probably leaks on a converter seal but not sure. ATF comes out at front bottom holes on case under the converter.
    Have you done a video how to drop the box under car keeping engine in situ and without a hoist? I think now that getting the box out is the biggest and most challenging job...thanks in advance!

    Thanks for the video! My automatic transmission MB 722.103 loses pressure at times. I raise the revs to 3000rpm and the pressure comes back. Your video shows that the pump is very robust and hardly has any defects. What are the components that can cause this problem?

    Thank you for a great video. I have a 91 350SD, I lost my reverse gear, I have never worked on a transmission before but watching your video made me try it. I found that all the springs in the reverse piston were crushed and that pin on the back of the piston is broken.What's the purpose of that pin if not just for lining up and also what brand is your rebuild kit? Any advice is much appreciated, thanks..

      Springs go like this when the clutch discs are worn out. I think the pin you are talking about is to aline the components when installing

      Thanks, that is probably all it was for. I couldn’t find the springs online so I bought another used transmission from a w123 and used that spring assembly.

      Meporfo 66 I just bought it on ebay Australia - searching for 722.3 rebuild kit. It came with frictions but not the 2 bands. I bought those separately. I’m not going to be replacing the frictions in this box.

    115 body style I think transmission is 722 - 0 but those numbers are not found on the transmission case anywhere
    Driver side of case has stamping 115 - 321

    I recently did this pump reseal and once installed the darn pump is leaking under pressure onto the exhaust crossover (V8 E420). I coated the o’ring well with fluid but did not use sealant on the pump cover bolts. I have heard that is important. Have you any advice?

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  2 роки тому

      are you sure its not the torque converter seal? was this changed at the same time and the transmission installed with the torque converter in the pump? This seal can get wrecked by the torque converter if it slides out accidentally when installing

    • @joewestfall2952
      @joewestfall2952 2 роки тому

      @@MMWA-DAVE the torque converter seal was replaced and the converter stayed put during the install. I do not know where the fluid is coming from but I will follow up once I have examined the area with a borescope.

    Is it possible that those clutch springs lose strength over time?

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  3 роки тому

      if severely overheated or abused i would imagine that’s possible. I’m not aware though.

    • @deemdoubleu
      @deemdoubleu 3 роки тому

      I was just wondering, especially since they are in permanent compression. If they are not ridiculously expensive and on a really old transmission, I would be tempted to replace them but I suppose it would be interesting to know if there is a test you can perform to verify the combined strength of them all while installed (prefereably prior to removal).

    Is this similar to the transmission found in w123s?

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  4 роки тому

      I was going to say no - but i stand corrected. According to the epc late large engine w123's did indeed get the 722.3 series. Early got the older 722.1 series. Late 4 cylinders got the 722.4 too, with early also having 722.1 series

    • @MMWA-DAVE

      turbo diesels got the 722.4 and the other diesels got the 722.4 or older 722.1 series depending on year

      when pushing a piston into a bore with a lip seal that opens in the direction you are pushing it, i wrap the piston with transparency film to hold the lip seal in tight , lube the bore and push in by hand. once its in the film can be slid out easily. This is what i did. Office printer supplies for rebuilding transmission 😂
