OH MY GOD I WAS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS FOR AGES FOR MY TOHRU COSPLAY! All the other wing tutorials I looked at were either super complicated or just didn't have the closing effect... Thank you so much for uploading this!!
(FOR AHRI COSPLAYS!) I recommend making it where the pullstrings can be pulls upwards and use 4 main pipes for the tails! Use smaller pieces for other tails!
This tutorial rocks! I followed it to make wings for my suneater cosplay. It was super straight forward and each step was clear. The only adjustment I made was not putting it in a corset. Thanks so much!
I been looking for something easy instructions. Others are like complicated , take alot of time. Which one day I may go that far. But your is by far the easiest n cheaper way to make the wings thank you.
THANK YOU this is a godsend - I'm cosplaying a gijinka of Charizard this summer, and I couldn't wrap my head around how I could make the wings collapsible for transport. Was nearly ready to build them fully extended and strap them down in the bed of my truck to get to the con lmao I will be using your method instead; I love how subtle the cord is!
Good luck with your build! The perk of these is they are also pretty easy to assemble and disassemble so you can probably pack them even smaller for travel if you wanted.
Hi. Nice simple design❤ Quick tip: when u have to flatten a large area of pvc pipe, heat the whole section till floppy then compress it between two pieces of wood by slapping it between them and leaning ur full weight or standing on top (since u needed a space for paracord I might have put a thin dowl inside to create a channel). Just much easier and faster and smoother than doing it bit by bit with a clamp. Anyway, off to watch the rest. Tx for sharing!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! I'm making a Cassian cosplay for my boyfriend and I had most of the mechanism figured out but there were some things I was missing - your video basically showed me exactly where I went wrong.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this! My daughter wanted to have working wings for a cosplay at PopCon and due to your video, it worked!!! I told everyone that asked how they worked that your video was my guide. Thank you!
Can I attach foam feathers to these and if so how ? I’m a Shibari performer and am wanting to make a pair of wings for my next preference in November, and am wanting to use old books for the feathers, also what type of wire did you use ?
Thank you so much R.T for this video. I went to mcm comic con yesterday with my version of these wings. They were amazing nice and light! Thank for making this video!❤
You can use one of those clips they use for shoes! You know !? The ones the you push down a tiny bottom and tighten the lase and push down again and loosing it ! That's so much easier than tight up the laces 🧐
This is almost exactly how I made bat wings years ago but I have lost my creative touch with seeing each step. The difference is your dragon wings hinge mechanism. Brilliant!🔥 Thank you for this tutorial. Because I have not been fortunate to find what I like online. (Ready made).
Instead of tying off to a length of string (needs two hands) why not sew two or three buttons to that point? You can wrap the activation cord around them figure-8 style, which should be a one handed motion.
I actually did that at first but found the tension wasn’t quite enough to keep the wing up. But I think if I’d fiddled with it more I could have got it to work, definitely worth a try!
this is seriously the best wing tutorial i've ever seen - i'm cosplaying simon snow and this is so perfect for him. do you have any tips on assembling the skeleton of the wing while inside of the fabric?
Thanks for the video, I have a very ambitious idea for a Cosplay I want to try and this technique will make or break the idea. I'll keep you posted, thanks again
Omg this has the exact effect I have been looking for for my Genderbent Hawks Cosplay, gotta get to work and see how it will turn out, I'm not a really advanced cosplayer or prop maker so I feel like I'm about to do some improvising with like the materials and stuff but lets see if they'll turn out wearable
is there a way to do this without having to attach it to a corset? my cosplay has full on robes and i cant wear a corset (asriel dreemurr god of hyperdeath), i dont know where id connect the wings to!!! helpp also this is a very nice tutorial thank you so much! :D
Should be doable, I'd look up tutorials on "wing harnesses" people have made. It's generally some sort of backplate/ backpack style harness with shoulder and chest straps. Kinpatsu cosplay has done a few varieties.
Thank you so much, I'm trying to make a pair of angel LED wings for my boyfriend. I want it to be a gift for him, and this definitely helped for a simple idea!
I'm actual thinking of using this to make a collapsible soul from soul eater. The last con I went to a girl used a curtain rod to make her scythe adjustable and my mind is running wild with the possibilities
I always wondered how that works to make wings like that but now i understand how to make them thats good for halloween or cosplays and this is new to me so thats why is my comment in 2023
Wow, this seems perfect for the design of making wings. I've never done anything like it before and we are doing an Alice event and my son wanted to be the Jabberwocky. What's a dragon without wings?! I had no idea really on how to go about it so thank you for this because now I can wrap my brain around what i need to do!
Yooo, I wanna make dragon wings to cosplay as an oc I made, but I couldn't find any wing designs that might work. I'm definitely gonna look into getting piping to try this!
I love this way of making opening wings. I'm working on a Castiel cosplay. I need angel wings and would love if they moved. I'm probably going to use this to make them move and then figure out the feathers myself. How could I attach them though? If I'm in a trenchcoat idk where I would be able to attach it. If anyone could help me come up with ideas it'd be really appreciated. Any ideas are great
Hi! So I was clear on how to make this up until the fabric, can someone explain how to sew the wings more? Like where to sew, how big to make it, and stuff
The size of the fabric is either based on the size of your frame if you make that first or decide on the wing size and then make the frame to fit. You cut out two pieces of fabric in the shape you want and see them together right sides facing leaving enough of a gap to insert the frame. Sorry if that explanation doesn’t add a lot more clarity. It might also help to look at other wing tutorials to see if you can modify their approach.
This is an absolute life saver!!- I needed to make some wings for an upcoming competition and to match with my friends. I shared the video with them, and they were so relieved. Just a quick question, do you *need* to use worbla when covering the wire part of the wing? I can’t order it and it’s a bit confusing of what material I should use to replace it (if I can)
Worldb definitely isn’t required, if don’t have access to thermoplastic’s in general I’d suggest sandwiching the wire in EVA foam - and maybe consider thicker wire as the Worbla does provide some strength you’ll be missing out on.
Is it possible to do this same thing but add feathers on it? Would I be able to put feathers just on the frame and not over fabric or do I need to put them on the fabric?

Imma use it for Devil Jin! Thank you for such tutorial!

I love your joint mechanism! My wing used a similar but with a spring keeping it open and a cord to keep is closed.
My kid is planning a lute cosplay i think im going to do this for her wings

Could you do something like this for tentacles? I am brand new at making my own cosplays but I have an idea for one of my own original characters

Love this using this for my son's toothless costume
Wow! This is incredible! Thank you for sharing!
Aaahhh perfect. Thanks for this!
