The tail that you showd us is perfect for someone who wants to do a Turanid Hormagaunt/Termigaunt cosplay, Thank you for doing this as I now Know how to do a Tyranid cosplay!
@-Delta sans owo- there are genuine cases of reincarnation that solved murders, so I don't necessarily think there's just one life. That may be true for some, but I don't think it's true for everyone. And while I disagree with what you say, don't delete or change what you said. Because you have the right to say it.
Omg, anyone remember those wooden snakes you could get that would move like this? I remember using that as a tail way back in the baby stages of my cosplay days. This is basically a more advanced nicer version of that omg so cool.
As someone who plans to make a skeleton dragon costume, I appreciate this video! I was really stumped on how to make the tail without resorting to 3d printing or resin casting, but this looks much easier! Thank you!
Splatoon cosplayer here, I've been trying to find a way to have moving hair tentacles without making them too heavy or lumpy, functionally similar to the lekku styles from Star wars. This might be a good solution if it can be head mounted!
I felt in love when I saw one of your prototypes on Instagram, and I've always wanted to make a tail which would look realistic in movement, and that post gived me hope, so I've waited until you could teach us how to make them, and I'm very happy you did it! Thank you so much, your work is awesome, I'll keep be watching your projects in the future, so keep it up
I’ve seen all of your previous tails before-I never would’ve guessed it was the same person. You have no idea how much respect I have for you. :) I can’t wait to see more of your creations!
so for the last couple of years I've been toying with a similar idea, I did not want to risk spending money on materials I couldn't afford especially with looming cons and everything I was focusing on at the time on top of the arthritis in my hands affecting my ability to do heavy tasks such as carving foam. I am SO glad you put this video because I've been able to sit down and figure out what my best option is for my dragon born going forward. I have thousands of sketches trying to figure out motion with just so many numbers all of the place and even some 3d motion renderings some where on my google drive. THANK YOU!!!!!
Idk why but they totally gave me an "NPC in an RPG" vibe lol, especially the person on the stationary bike. Like you'd walk up to him and he'd go "I got to thinking, maybe I'm the Dragonborn, and I just don't know it yet."
I used this as a basis for making something similar for my daughter for a dragon costume, though my stretchy fabric was black and green, and I scaled it all over and added folded faux-leather spines instead of plates on top. She was thrilled. Thank you so much for sharing!
To make it swish a bit less, it'd probably help to make the sections near the base a bit bigger and/or the gaps between the sections smaller, but honestly that dragon tail already looks amazing as is. Well done!
The video is almost one year old. These prototypes were later sold at low prices, and I partially blocked the movement of the purple tail with extra padding.
5:20 I saw the way that sewing machine looks and +100 trust, +10 respect. That thing has seen battle looks like a well worn, well used tool as all tools should be.
here to tell you you saved my Mardi-Gras-costuming life. you are a godsend. this has been in my head for months now and this is exactly what I've been trying to do!
I have ALWAYS wanted to see a tail that moved like this. The design is so incredible 😍 I hope that in the future a product like this can be purchased easily 😉
I’ve been looking at the progress of The Tail ™️ from a looong time ago, because I want to cosplay a character that happens to have an alligator tail. The last solution, with fake leather and padding, is awesome! Also, watching you make experiments is really inspiring and really shows how much you enjoy making this. Thanks!
A fully articulated tail is ALWAYS necessary. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts and experiences! This is very interesting and gives me ideas for future costumes. Edit: I love how frank you are about your accent (which is beautiful btw). Really added to the video~

Thank you for this. I appreciated your journey and thoughts on solving those little things that just "didn't seem quite right." You are quite an artist - keep going!
Thanks so much for sharing this process. I plan to make a Krampus costume very soon and want a tail for it. Seeing the detailed process has given me great ideas!
Thank you! My niece wants a furry animal costume, so of course I want to help make that happen. Upholstery foam is hard to come by in my area, and expensive to order online. I love this because it's more sewing than foam sculpting, so I don't have to buy MORE stuff!
Oh my god, I have been looking for an articulated tail tutorial that does not include foam for a long time and I will 1000000% be using this tutorial to make a tail 😊
I'm working on a cosplay tail for my brother of Montgomery Gator... My friends sent me this link as a guide (me, not knowing anything at all before this video) and I learned a LOT about sewing! Of course, the tail isn't perfect; I made it much to small to even act as an alligator tail. But in the future I will DEFINITELY be looking back to this video and re-working on the project I'm sure!!
I think its kinda funny but i also respect the amazing amount of talent and creativity it takes to makes this. You could for sure be a costume designer for movies .
Thx for vid. I’ll be getting my protogen “head kit” in a few weeks, now I can make a cool tail to go with it. 👍 I like the cloth based one (first one) seems really easy.
Your innovation is truly remarkable and has the potential .The amount of time, effort, and dedication you put into developing this invention is truly commendable. 👍
Adding this video to my "need to find later" playlist so I can reference this when finally making the tail I want to wear constantly. It is to correct my seated posture lol.
This is very useful! I would like to make a Blue Eyes White Dragon costume some time. I have a question regarding the the bottom of the tail. The Blue Eyes tail is smooth on the bottom, would making the top and bottom plates be more useful in achieving a smooth look? And how would I fix the gap problem if I have two smooth plates? I have not made a tail like this before so this is all very new to me!
Okay so I use UA-cam for watching tools and car related videos....but now I know how to make a moving tail for myself....for some reason........thanks for the recommendation UA-cam 👍
i also try to do a tail more than 20 years a go. i did it with differnd sizes of foam sphers and 4 strings of twine (it neverworks) but to day i know i just had to use a 5 string. its always nice to see how other manages the problem :)
This lass and adam savage both: Make a tail with a segmented system, surprised pikachu that a _spinal column_ is flexible. Because that is what they have effectively done, is to build a spine like every mammal has. It is both amusing and fun to watch them go through the process.
i only have carboard, flextape, hot gluegun and 1 day to make a tail and i remered this video so im really glad youtube recommended this to me that one time
this is the same method they used in old movies for making such tails back then they made the entire core one material however, so instead of sections just one plastic or foam like center and then some washers running through it with some rings on the ends. then some ropes through it fixed at the end and going through the holes a the ends of the washers(so they had some distance from the center of the tail). and then to the motor to controll it each side had one wire. make one longer and one shorter and the tail moves to one side, the opposite to the other side, etc.

This lady: tails for cosplay that can move!
Furries: (rapidly taking notes)
Lol true
It is true tho. Like me😢
"write that down, write that down!"
Very true
@Sadist Fake Bootleg Tiki oh boy, not one of you again.
So basically like those old wooden snake toys. Good to know my theories were workable!
Ohh yes those wooden snakes 😄
I'd always get my fingers pinched in those dang things 😂

I was not expecting to see Warhammer comments down here! :)
Quick get the heavy flamer
Personally i prefer you because you DON'T blow up worlds
The person that disliked was jealous they didn’t have talent
Tail props have a bad reputation because they aren't "natural" (which is the entire point of such a build...)
What?! do people expect to have real tails or something?

they sell them at my dollar tree!
Zeus your God?
For the scales version, if you maybe used a printed fabric that roughly matched your scales it would disguise the gaps
I’m not cosplaying and I’m not a furry I just honestly think this is cool and I want to make it then never use it again 😂
a good excuse is for Halloween. lots of option where the concept can be useful.

Skeletal (or robotic) tails are one of my projects. It could look so interesting, and there is nothing to hamper the movement.

But that dragon tail tho...
Same
7:07 I keep rewatching that, the motion is so fluid!
I've upgraded the video equipment and can do epic slow motions now. I'll make sure to have this kind of demo if I ever build another moving accessory.
