Why is this guy so obscure? I first heard of him maybe 5 years ago and I never hear of Link Wray unless I go looking him up. He really sounds ahead of his time.
If anyone sees the person who disliked this video, could they please return them to their padded cell and be sure to lock the door behind them. Thank you.
This is so badass. It's like surf rock's greasy, scary older brother, who leads a gang and whose girlfriend has tats and carries a knife, while surf rock and Elvis are chasing rich bitches around the sock hop.
Yes, Link and Anton were really tuned in to each other on this recording, they made a mighty sound together, love the sky is falling, a great record, great musicianship.
Totally awesome!! Great bass playing. I can only imagine the people digging this, so many years ahead of it's time. More than Pushing the limits, busting the crap outa the barriers.
just found out about this guy from a friend and he is from a small town called dunn,nc which is about 6miles from my hometown. lol crazy...makes me feel like one of the cool kids!
It is a shame that he is so obscure he was the gateway to many sounds . And with out a single doubt he should be in the hall of fame he has been in the top 50 guitar player list forever!!!!
merely by virtue of that maverick attitude, and the coolness of not only whatever guitar he played, but just how he enjoyed doin' his thing, and his influence was far-reaching, like i bet the ventures were fans of his! it definitely makes him important in history
I must admit ... I owe my exposure to Link Wray to Jimmy Page ... a video recording of Page listening to one of his records from his collection and being so enthusiastic about "The Rumble" ... even playing air guitar and smiling like a little kid about the song! watch?v=RLEUSn8y9TI
Well since you posted that comment on this video, I thought you meant punk owed him because of this song. If you had posted that comment on some of his early stuff, I would have agreed. My mistake really.
he was briefly mentioned in the 'rolling stone history of rock and roll' when i was like 13 or something, or else i'd have never heard of him- they mentioned he pretty much invented the 'fuzzed out' guitar tone, and the power chord, or what was later called the power-chord
This guy is awesome! Maybe he refuses to play the game so he hasn't been able to break out, so to speak. I think he's much too talented to keep down however there have been so many talents that have never been heard of throughout the years that will remain unknown to the world due to not becoming a game player, drugs or alcohol.... it is a damn shame!
That Bass is kicking some butt!
👍

Link is the Godfather
Far, far ahead. He's the real deal, and then some.
This song is from 1979
the instrumental Rumble from 58 got banned in several US radio stations because of the titel and the sound.
No him, no punk, no metal, you're stuck listening to terrifyingly bland crap and that's all there is
Legendary Rob Stoner on bass guitar.
i've heard a lot of versions of this song but this is definitely the best!
right

I thought this had a Disco edge to it! 1979
Love it!

Rock n roll how it suposed to BE🤟🤟🤟🤟
The Best Drummer Link Ever Had In My Opinion, next to the best, his brother Doug Wray
Still remember hearing Rumble for the first time...felt like the universe just opened up a big hole and swallowed me.
Native America! WOW! I 😊 love it.
Yes, Link and Anton were really tuned in to each other on this recording, they made a mighty sound together, love the sky is falling, a great record, great musicianship.
And Rob Stoner on bass.
Wow! Totally cool. A fabulous triad, Little Willie John, Peggy Lee and Link Ray doing grace to a great tune. Thumbs up!
Totally awesome!! Great bass playing. I can only imagine the people digging this, so many years ahead of it's time. More than Pushing the limits, busting the crap outa the barriers.
Thanks, Bob!
He´s the best. Link is great!!!

Imagine Elvis singing over Link's Guitar. 🎸😎

every time I hear Link Wray I wanna start a huge brawl in town at the local bar and then into the parking lot ........ FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!
@Bagfuld Excuse me my english. I just meant that punk is much more than can be held within this fine piece of rock and roll.
BOOM!
Cool on 3…. 💜💛
This is the final straw...it's time for me to dig out the Doug Wimbish Ibanez I've been ignoring, and learn this base line!
c'est fantastique c'est trop géniale merci 👍
I bet even Peggy Lee would dig Link's version.
@surethang27 Agreed. The more I hear this guy and go back to hear other much later bands, the more I can hear his huge influence.
Got that boogie bass flying!
fever some smoke and a good sgaar yeah
elv
a very interesting aproach and transformation . Almost something like gang of 4
@riffmagos punk rockers DO owe it all to Link Wray. Saddly, a lot of em don't even know who he is
+1 jos7886, Ive been playin for 25 years and I just found out about Link.Young players need this to listen to.YOU HEARIN ME,KIDS!?!?!?!?!
Punk was already invented and in it's peak when this came out.
Yeah, except for something you do not know. Link Wray was playing like this in the 1950s.
Well since you posted that comment on this video, I thought you meant punk owed him because of this song. If you had posted that comment on some of his early stuff, I would have agreed. My mistake really.
Sounds to me as if all punk rockers owe it all to Link Wray.

Damn that's good!
Wow! New fan!

@riffmagos pretty much EVERY rocker owes Link Wray... just ask Pete Townsend or Jimmy Page: they've both said it many times.
I totally agree DustOnTheRoad about sky is falling.....
Heh markowee, thanks for putting the mix together, saved me the trouble!
Link needed a wheelbarrow to carry those great big balls around.
Anton Fig on the drums.
Is this a remix of what ? It sounds like its electro-rock.
Who the FUCK is the bass player? My God.
I'm the bass player on this album.
@@robstoner5873 👍👍
❤
@jos7886 well said mate i discovered link only a year or so ago
Totall irrelevant when you consider when Link Wray began recording. As I said, punk owes him a debt. It is what it is.
OH OH WOW JUST MY GOSH LOVING WOW ♥️VELVET🌈
@riffmagos It's ok with a far out exaggeration if you are in love, I guess..
👍
Never heard this one before- he sounds like he's backed by Peter Hook and Steve Morris!
It's Anton Fig on drums and me on bass.
whoa.... i love the peggy lee version, but this.... shit. just.... wow.
Fein. - Erkele
Obviously a big influence on Rowland S.Howard.
This or Peggy Lee
Or them together
That would be awesome.
Heh, heh, heh,heh!
Next time try to dance like Travolta .-)
Wow
This is punk
désolé hier je me suis trompé pardon
2021 есть кто?
SMASH
I bet Ace Frehley listened to Link Wray when he was a boy!
The bass heavy sound, the perfectly metronomic drumming, the chunky dissonant guitar.... this is Joy Division!
chords????
