I think Vanilla Ice did more damage to the white rapper community than he realizes. After all, it was because of him that rappers like Snow weren't taken seriously. And yeah, when Eminem first came out he was totally dissed like he was just another Vanilla Ice. He had to prove himself to the black community and rappers alike. For those who aren't aware, Snow was a white rapper who has been labeled a one hit wonder (though he has had more overseas) that has grown up in the Jamaican community and was also raised by a Jamaican family. His hit "Informer" was about the time where he was snitched on in an attempted murd3r case. He was actually in jail when his single was aired on the radio. He was let out and made a video for the song. However, because Vanilla Ice was just exposed for being a poser, Snow's career took a hit as did many other white rappers. If memory serves me, it wasn't until Eminem that white rappers were taken seriously again.
Vanilla Ice wasn't a poser though. People also said that hat he did damage to hip hop in general for being "pop" and MC Hammer did the same thing but you're wrong to suggest that white rappers weren't taken seriously up until Eminem. We had MC Serch and Everlast and Milkbone and Pete Nice. and Vanilla Ice started rapping in 1985. He opened up for NWA, Public Enemy, the D.O.C., EPMD, Sir Mix-A-Lot, MC Hammer, Ice-T and even KRS-One. He would only be viewed as a "culture vulture" and a poser after he blew up and sold 11 million copies in two years. Him and Hammer were the first rappers to cross into the pop market - which wasn't even planned and they got a lot of hate for that. But Eminem would have been an underground MC in the first place and never even made it to White American ears if people like Ice and Hammer hadn't paved the way. They basically took all the shots so hip hop could become mainstream.
@@morbidchidthank you, like I get not liking Vanilla, but for people to just excuse Eminem to hate/diss him cause he made it “harder for him” is kinda crazy ngl. Love Eminem tho don’t get me wrong.
@@poindextertunes He started off as a breakdancer, would then go on to do battle raps and freestyle battles. He did write the majority of "Ice Ice Baby" in 1983. The second verse in 1987 was then polished by The D.O.C. and MC Smooth. Eazy E and Dr. Dre didnt write any of their lyrics. And every Snoop song from 1991-1995 was written by The D.O.C. - does that make them fake? Tone Loc's songs were also written by Young MC.
I think the one white rapper that did the most damage was Kid Rock. He was a straight up poser. He knew nothing about rap and when some of the local black rappers helped him out in his career he then turned around and did them shady. He was never an authentic rapper.
Have none of y'all paid attention to middle schools? Those little girls get usedby highschhoolers/wash outs all the damn time. His comments are creepster and completely socially normal. Don't be lyin' to yourselves.

Thanks for not just taking about Benzino, but talking about Em actually dissing The Source magazine too. Because most people don’t know that was the equivalent of beefing with a Nas or Jay Z at the time. I mean they didn’t call it the HipHop bible for nothing.
Eminem actually responded to Vanilla Ice's diss "Exhale" in the 2002 song Purple Pills saying "and I see dumb shit start happening / dumber than Vanilla Ice trying to be rap again". They did squash the beef - and Eminem actually went on to praise Ice Ice Baby both in a song he did with Royce Da 5'9 and in an interview with Graham Norton (both in 2009).

Great work on this one Matty; love that you kept it neutral in illustrating the MGK beef! It never set well with me that MGK got to drum up smoke for years until Kamikaze, and people thought the initial diss was just about some tweets that Em was being petty about. It's almost like MGKs team really pushed for a beef to give him some heat... Guess it worked!
Heavy pullback and looking towards the floor when ja says "yeah" and then a slightly higher pitched "we had a, man to man, respecful conversation" makes it all very difficult to believe
the Ja beef was the absolute BEEEST - i was in high school/late teens when the best songs from Em to Ja were released - brings great memories. He totally smoked Ja man
I already knew that MGK was a cringelord sex pest through his time with Megan Fox. I knew that he had thirsted after Hailey putting him on Em's radar to begin with but you just let me know that she was 16 at the time. Gross! MGK should've stopped while he was ahead but he didn't. Between creeping on Hailey and blaming him for his own shortcomings as a rapper and networker, MGK got exactly what he deserved from Em, which led to him being ran out of the rap genre. I wish something similar would happen for him and pop punk, honestly. Ja Rule should've kept his focus on 50 and Em, themselves. He should've left Hailey and Kim out of it. He didn't and got cooked to a crisp by both of them. Nick Cannon is just...I don't even know what to say about him at this point. Mariah didn't need his help dealing with Em at all and he ended up looking like the whole circus in the end.
Bro it annoyed me so much when people didnt catch the "you already know who the f you R KELLY" line, as a reference to him talking about his under age daughter
@kssmkkdf I mean, kinda. But he's a 30-something year old man saying stuff about a whole ass child at the time. 16 is a kid, so saying "oh she's hot," is fine in a normal context. Saying it about a man's underage daughter is fighting words. A lot of men have gotten their faces caved in or their neck aired out with a knife hole over that, so Kelly kinda got off easy by posting a trash diss getting his career burnt. Not even addressing the downright horrendous stuff in his relationship with miss Fox, cause I don't know enough about that.
@@lmaowhilebinging it is insane idk how people are a em fan and forget he commented on a 17 yr old Hillary duff butt and in the song stated she's not quite old enough so he'll wait a year that's worse than what mgk ever said but ems a "rap god" so it's fine

I’d say Eminem paved the way for white rappers. Cause he wasn’t a one hit wonder. And he had actually skill and rapped about things other rappers didn’t.
So long as he lives and breathes, to diss Eminem is an immediate career death sentence. Edit: writing this just to clarify that I mean truly diss the man that is Eminem. Coming at his core values or family shit not petty squabble shit that gets squashed the next year. Also, ratio 🤙🏽
A few months ago Eminem also destroyed Melle Mel in a rap battle without even rapping. That’s because Melle Mel pretty much killed himself on his own diss track 💀
Great vid, but side note. In the Nick Cannon section, you forgot to mention that Nick Cannon also dissed Eminem much earlier on the song “I’m a Slick Rick”, which was also a laughably bad diss track that Marshall didn’t bother to respond to.
You should make a video on artists who were shelved and why. I think it’s really interesting how someone like sofaygo didn’t get a placement on Utopia when he would’ve fit in many spots on the project
Em further elaborates on the circumstances behind that leaked tape in the song "Yellow Brick Road," which is a dope autobiographical storytelling track.
I love how Tech just side-stepped that shit real quick 😂 He was like "I'm not a part of this, I did not consent to dissing Em" and MGK should have learned from that 😭
This is plain goofy and false, if that was the case, half the industry wouldn’t be glazing his nuts talking about “don’t mess with the white boy”, how many renowned legends have gone on record saying niggas shouldn’t mess with Em? MGK’s career didn’t really die, hell it made him even bigger cause of Eminem. If he switched genre without Eminem’s attention he would’ve gone unnoticed, I’m wondering if he did it the disstrack with the intention of getting attention for his career or am I overthinking it
@JuanOnJuann you're correct, I was in denial for years! Now I respect to each their own but I agree MGK became mainstream after the beef, he had some attention before but afterwards it was insane, it does seem as if eminem helped mgk in a way and I don't see how eminem wouldn't have known that going into the "beef"
2:40 You forgot to mention that Mgk dissed Eminem on LA Leakers freestyle with that "I'm my favorite rapper alive since my favorite rapper banned me from Shade 45" line, which later Eminem mentioned that in his 2018 interview
He forgot a lot of stuff regarding MGK bro. He said Hotel Diablo had weaker first week sales compared to all his other albums when we can clearly see in that pic, it did 48.150 more than his last album, General Admission. No mention of the freestyles he has been during since "Mainstream Sellout", no mention of the lockdown session, no mention of the song he just released with Tee Grizzley. I love Mattys video but he failed to research more regrading the topic. Only surface leave stuff really.
Surprised you didn't mention Everlast, i think Quitter is 1 of the bess diss tracks by Em. Also what people don't think about when dissing Em is other artist's coming at them too sometimes Em doesn't even need to respond, when Nick Cannon released those diss tracks it resulted in a lot of decent disses being sent his way by Denace, 100 Kufis and Mesus to name a few.
I had too google Benzino to see who he was. As some one from mass, I didn't even know he existed. Funny enough he was shot like 50 feet away from me on the highway and I thought he was some no rapper coming up, then forgot all about it.
This man has dropped disses and literally ruined people’s careers and had them switch genres, and this guy is saying he can’t battle? When will people learn?
@@friday4557 actually they don't give one about beefs in general, from my experience they're generally just chill kids who wanna vibe Also Tyler actually has fans, in contrast to all those rappers in this video lol
MGK is bigger now. His first hip hop album “Hotel Diablo” after the beef was the one he went no 1 for the first time. And if you think he switched genres, he has always been pop here and there. So nobody should say he switched genres. He’s always did what he liked.
@@Neezy-q9iEminem has already had his career. He sold more albums than MGK has about 15 years ago. But MGK right now is a solid artist. I think pop-punk suits him better. Yes he’s good, but never regarded as anything special. His pop-punk area right now is treating him well, and I think he’s doing great! We knew this, then again MGK dropped Binge mere days after the beef and after garnering 40million views in a day on Rap Devil it only did 7k first week. Eminem didn’t actually kill his rap career but to say it didn’t take a turn for the negative is factually incorrect.

Like your vids and I agree Em won the beef with MGK. And MGK did switch genres, but he's been back to rap for a little over a year now...His song with Est Gee has 4 mil views, his own rap songs (freestyles) this year have at least 2 mil and his newest with Tee Grizzley (3 wks old) has almost 2 mil. Em didn’t win cuz mgk didn’t switch the genre cuz of Eminem he did rock music way before that mgks diss is also better than eminems he still relevant so eminems diss didn’t do anything
@@schulle_376This isn’t entirely true. Yes Machine gun Kelly was multi faceted in his genre selection, but you can’t lie that his public image didn’t take a massive shift after Eminems diss. Before the diss you’d never catch him wearing half the stuff he wears now, and it’s cos he’s changed up his marketing and PR image to appeal to the pop punk fan base he’s accumulating. He never did that before the Eminem diss. Also, Eminem still “won” regardless. Diss tracks are about the lyricism and the content, and who can make their opponent look worse. MGKs diss was a good sounding song and “catchier” than killshot, but the context and skills shown in the lyricism was levels below killshot. Even just looking at the rhyme schemes of both and MgK looks like a novice in comparison to Eminem. MGK has also lost any shred of respect he had in the rap scene and most people don’t take him serious as a rapper anymore. Eminem’s diss is so much better and actually hit MGK harder. What Eminem said was true and how he said it was way more eloquent than MGKs song. MGK idolised Eminem and related to him cos he was also white, grew up poor and loved rap music. However, MGK got his feelings hurt when Eminem didn’t give him any attention or care about him. He probably wanted validation from Eminem but never got it and then started doing shit like with the tweet, and the sneak disses to grab his attention. He is literally the definition of a Stan. No hate to MGK though, I actually think the beef was good for him. I like the way his music has evolved and I think he suits the pop punk style.
Few months ago, MGK had a concert at Opener Music Festival in Poland. Before that he was only known in Poland due to his beef with Eminem. Audience at his concert was so little that he stopped playing and told people to go eat and drink something. 😂😂😂

It’s just a shame that tupac and biggie died young. Id love to see what wouldve happened if guys had tried to take shots at Tupac in his late 40s like MGK tried to do to Em. Eminem dissed Ja rule on his song “Bully” too! It’s amazing 😻
@@morbidchidbut Ice was a dancer and didn’t even write the fkn song?

How is saying a woman is attractive (the exact words he used was hot) thirsting after someone everyone has done that at one point in their life
@kssmkkdf I mean, kinda.
