leave a like i had to listen to some pretty terrible songs for this vid
also, if you like any of these albums this is no hate! just overall reception & commercial success is what i’m basing this on
😊
wondering if you have an AlbumOfTheYear account since you showed it a lot here lol. It's a great website
Me personally I like Rebirth, I can see why others may dislike it but I find it to be an enjoyable and fun album.
Do video on the ones that switch and succeded
Bro don't EVER give mgk credit for anything bro, his deleted tweets said he found little girl's attractive ffs don't EVER give this man any props
The Carter III being right behind high school musical two soundtrack on billboards top 200 albums of the decade is hysterical
Me too I saw that, and was like these mofos put the highschool musical ahead of better albums
That shit was Huge when I was a kid so I don’t doubt it.
@@RealDrsoulighschool Musical has a ton of banger songs TF you on? 😂😂
Edit: I am joking (kinda). I haven’t even seen those movies.
High School Musical was like an event back then

I feel like Wayne could make a good rock album just in a slightly different universe
Ditch the auto tune
I actually like some of his rock songs
Could say that about any artist.
If he could sing he could
He definitely can, he just needs to try harder, it was cool to hear him doing sum different shi
Failure or not, i actually like when artists try to expand their sound. Switching genres, even just for one album. It’s a huge risk for many reasons. It may not be good, but it’s experimental and I like that.
you & the rest of the waste are the reason absolute garbage has an excuse to exist. Continue to make excuses for the deterioration of your species because you know no better & don't have the accountability to gather some taste
@@DennisMHenderson
dude what crawled up your ass and died?
Are you having a midlife crisis attack?
I agree
Thank you Matty for not putting on a low, monotone voice that makes the video seem like a scary story one.
i can’t tell if this is sarcasm cus that’s just my voice lol
@@mattyballz No I'm being serious lmao, your voice isn't monotone at all tbh
Haha thanks, ive been working on it cus it used to be super dead in vids
@@mattyballzyou’re not monotone you’re just chill bro, that’s a good characteristic. I have way too much energy & have been learning I need to chill out lol
@@mattyballz The videos have always been bangers and you're killin it so keep it up. Would love to see you cover GG Allin as that man was a big cultural icon in the punk rock scene and I think you could do him justice with a nice video:)
"It's Weezer and it's Weezy"
Don't care what yall think, that's a legendary lyric😂😂
I agree when it comes to MGK. Fail means it didnt work and he had to go back to his original genre. It worked and he got even bigger fanbase than he had before (somehow)
hey man to each their own i fuck with his rock more than his rap 🤷♂️
I’m just put off from the wannabe-emo cringe of him… and I can’t stand the lyrics overall

I was fighting for my life as a logic fan in 2019
lmfao catchin strays left and right, I was nearly lynched when I revealed I liked 1-800, even though most of the reason was for the other singer on the track (forgot her name because when I tried to look into her the music was too bland for me)
@@MontySlythoneverybody got mad hate but was the peak of his career streaming wise sold like 315k first week

I kinda liked COADM, I thought most of the album was really good but I agree that some tracks are bland and lifeless, and especially in the middle the album completely falls apart with some of the most atrocious songs I've ever heard
I can listen to some of those tracks if I just turn my brain off but holy shit, clickbait, bobby and especially that Will Smith song are nearly unlistenable.
Much respect to the artist who ventured into a different genre
Logic was not hated for being biracial logic was hated because he couldn't go two sentences without reminding you that he was biracial
Btw he's biracial
Yeah it’s sad because most Logic fans I’ve met are usually pretty cool or chill but Logic is just such an annoying asshole.
Damn, I’ve always enjoyed Lil Wayne’s Rebirth album.. I had no idea it was so universally hated

Wayne's verse on the song Ready To Go shows that he could make a great rock album. Just him going off with bars over some hard rock production is all we need, no autotune.
Switching from pop to rock doesn’t work. He’s not a real rocker.
He isn't an actual pop star either, he's a rapper lol. Anyone can switch over to whatever genre they want, if they can pull it off well is a whole nother thing.
@@arios1977 I don't think I've heard the phrase 'real rocker' from anyone that isn't 30, late on child support and wearing a crusty Slayer shirt from 10 years ago lmao

I’m not a fanboy of Lil Wayne but the Rebirth album went platinum and was in the top 3 on the Billboard 200. I wouldn’t call that a failure.
I loved Speedin Bullet. It feels like a manic episode the whole time. Weird voices lurking around your brain that don’t sound like you anymore, but are in fact you. You try to escape the demonic noises of them but end up trapped. And there are some, what feel like good moments between the dark. And maybe the good moments are just acceptance of your lived reality. Trauma gives that sensual feel but yells discomfort. CONFUSED! Is one of my favorites, the excited clashing of instruments, yet the dark lyrics of, “I might go losing it and drive off a cliff.” Very well put together. There was still some nuance too. Adventures to me was old Cudi, but also a foreshadowing into Passion Pain and DS.
This best describes this album. Those who are going thru their shit find solace that someone else has similar feels about their life in that current moment.
Sb2h is one of kid cudi’s best idc what anyone says
@@fernandovillagomez6382 exactly. Until you go thru the shit, you wouldn’t understand the album
Edge of the earth is such a good song.
Uh.... Nah, yo.
Vanilla ice still tours and has an extremely dedicated fan base, he’s well known to be an absolutely insanely down to earth and nice guy, i wish he had been more successful as he really deserves the support
SPEEDING BULLET 2 HEAVEN IS UNDERRATED AFFFFFFFFFFF
the Subway surfer split screen 😂
As a huge nirvana/Kurt cobain fan, you can tell speeding bullet was heavily influenced from albums like bleach and incesticide. I like the album, it’s dark and different
YES THANK YOU
I'm glad to find others who like the album and see it for what it is as well
I really liked Rebirth and Speedin Bullet 2 Heaven, even have them on rotation to this day. I was disappointed to find out in the recent years that people never liked them.
No. If you pay attention to critics it failed, but it hit top 50 in every country and toppled the charts in some places.
Rebirth was ass but Speeding bullet grew on me alot
Putting the family guy and subway surfers was hilarious 💀 💀
That kid Cudi tape may have failed commercially, but he made a really good punk rock album. That thing just oozed 90s I don’t care what anybody says.
The Beavis and Butthead interludes we’re nothing short of * chefs kiss moment*
agreed. i uniromically like this album
@mattm6200 if you don’t come for me again, you won’t have wasted another three seconds of your life.
You are weird
Thank u....that shit waz fire
@@kabelosejake322 I think the problem is he did a punk rock album too well and his hip hop fans were thrown. That shit is solid. I have a former co worker and friend who love metal and punk, that dude immediately downloaded it and was shocked Cudi was a rapper.
Vanilla Ice is a damn good motocrosser and at one time was the #3 ranked JetSki racer in FL. Due may not be able to play metal but he is definitely metal on two wheels
Call me a super Wayne stan but I actually enjoyed Rebirth 🤷🏻♂️ I vividly remember playing “Prom queen” and “Da da da” a lot as a kid. That sample on “On fire” was straight 🔥 too
Exactly
I mean you were a kid, if you were +20 when rebirth dropping there weren't fans above that age
Akon. He switched to dance/afrobeats and failed miserably
Sucks for Kid Cudi because WZRD was one of my favorite albums of all time. I remember the bad feedback for it…
Enjoyed this video Matty thanks man!
Just stumbled upon your videos a couple of days ago... love the content and had to subscribe 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ice didn't fail because he switched genres. People had already treated Ice as a joke and he tried to self remove by the time the dust settled on Mind Blowin', so really, releasing a rock album was more of a having nothing to lose kind of thing. It wasn't about charting. It was about doing something in life so that people didn't automatically laugh at and hit him with things for being a phony. Remember, he was accused of switching genres already, from hip-hop to pop. THAT is what effected him so much. Ice has talked about just how important some of the songs on Hard to Swallow, "Scars" in particular, were to his own healing process.
I feel like Wayne's Rebirth was the "wait.. you can do this?" moment that paved the way for rappers who could actually carry out the task better.
Good coverage here! Good vid, brother!
another W matty video thanks mr.ballz
Just glad MGK still puts out rap from time to time. I’m a punk rock/metal/hip hop head till I die but that boy belongs in rap. Idk what anybody says. He can spit.
MGK attempted to become Lil Peep when he passed… one of the lamest moves by an artist, ever.
@@rell4219 I agree with that to a certain extent. I don’t think he was tryna be a lil peep as their sounds are nothing alike, in my opinion anyway. When I hear any of peeps musical groups like GBC/Scheemaposse or any of peeps library at all for that matter, the last thing that I would compare it to is MGKs shitty wannabe emo/pop/punk. To me it’s more like he’s tryna be a really bad version of KennyHooplah/Avril Lavigne/Yung Blud/POORSTACEY. But I totally see your point and I agree that the shift was super lame.
@@Nitro_Foundry U need A genuine underground following to be like Peep so he went the Mainstream, early 2000’s emo route. Still, the first time I seen MGK with A guitar was him doing A Peep tribute when he passed. He then died his hair the same Blonde, started wearing Pink, got Punk esthetic tattoos and the rest is history.
Calling a 35 year old man a boy ok
Keep up the great work and don't let anyone stop you

I think I’m the only person who still bumps Rebirth to this day. A lot of catchy songs on there. “Paradise”, “Die for you”, “So over you” and “American star” are all cool songs. Takes a lot of guts to switch genres like Wayne did and I think he made a dope album👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
YES
GET A LIFE HITS
Switching from pop to rock isn’t dope. Lol.
I still listen to it from A-Z
He should've turn off the autotune. Rock are supposed to be pure. Adding electronic voice into it just does not work
Keep up the good work, love you content man 🙏💪
This is what I mean when I say Wayne is one of the greats. Dude put out an album of a different genre, and STILL managed to pull 176K first week. Just goes to show how big he really was 15 years ago. Lol.
Back then you bought the album before you listened to it, so obviously he's gonna have good sales cos you trust a legend like Wayne to make a good album and you buy it. But you're thinking modern day.
@@mxchael_0385 176K for almost anybody these days is a God Send. Lmao.
A pop star never changes genres. They’ll always be pop, no matter how hard they try. He’s not a rocker. Never will be.
I am not sure why, but I absolutely love Rebirth. Especially the song, "On Fire". Also, the song, "Ground Zero" is good to play when you take a huge hit off of a -- long tube and suck all the air and other stuff out -- cause it'll get your heart racing. (Gotta keep it UA-cam friendly). It's especially funny to play Ground Zero at parties when there are a bunch of noobs and it's their first time with the green. They'll go into another dimension with this song playing. Mattyballz, cool video my man! I just recently subscribed and loved your videos so far. Rock on my duuude!

Rebirth was a good album. Prom Queen was an absolute slapper. His collabs with Kevin Rudolf were hard too.
I actually liked vanilla ice's rock album. Also, I wouldn't say his career was over. His music career was. He did a lot of other things like guest appearances and hosting shows. He still made way more money than I will ever see even after ice ice baby.
I liked what Logic did and he’s improved so much
i didn’t even mind it all that much but yeah it got ripped apart by most folks
For real his last few albums have been top tier too
Im so confused why the dude said Confessions of a dangerous mind was his worst album. It’s his best!! Like what? Some of his top songs are in that album: Icy, Homicide, On fire, Keanu reaves, etc.
@@gwentomologist nah his best songs are from 2013-2015 those are just his most popular but generic ones

The auto tune... You don't hate it? It's fine if you don't lol
You have no idea how badly I wish I felt like you about that album. Cause I think it’s terrible, but wanted to believe he could do a good job with a rock album at the time. It was such a disappointment to hear. But if you like it, cool. Lol

Great vid. Just wanted to note for the last note for Vanilla Ice is that Vanilla Ice in JoJo is the Stand User; the Stand he uses is actually called Cream (like the band from the 60s).
U right, its been a minute since ive seen part 3
@@mattyballzFun fact: the Japanese voice actor for vanilla ice in jojo is possibly a more successful rapper than the actual vanilla ice

Just a quick note, I don't think people ever had an issue with logic's "biracialness", People's problems are more that he never shuts up about being biracial (as well as some people having concerns about if somebody who's so light skinned they look white using the N word)
ya thats what i meant
Was introduced to MGK back in 2010 when i was 15 via the song 'Cleveland' and i immediately became a massive massive fan......fast forward to when i was 19 and i get a tattoo on my chest that is heavily inspired by MGK's own tattoo...2 years later and MGK disses Em setting in motion a speed run in self Sabotage resulting in MGK changing genres... when i found this out i died inside and was seriously upset because when i invisioned MGK and all the things about his music I loved I saw drugs, girls, ghettos and a skinny whiteboy covered in tatts pissed off at the world cruising the city with his crew of mixed mates spitting fast well balanced rhymes that flawlessly gunned him Down to dockers

Man kid cudi speeding bullet to heaven is one of the best albums ever you just gotta have problems
Uh, no. My life was a black hole when I heard that album and it was still pure shit. There's so many other albums I turn to for that, so much music that succeeds in all the ways Speeding Bullet just falls flat. Plus, the Beavis and Butthead skits obliterate any possibility of gleaning any meaningful experience from it. Like, WTF?
Tha Carter being right behind the High school musical 2 soundtrack is hilarious 1:50
Lil Wayne might not have reached the heights he would've liked switching to Rock but we wouldn't have had Drop The World, On Fire, & yes Prom Queen surprisingly grows on you maybe Knockout, even as a Wayne fan I can't really listen to the rest but Ima give it another try thanks to this Video 👌🏽
Holy Fuck I slept on Rebirth I'm on Da Da Da got instant goosebumps halfway through, 4 tracks in and not a skip yet
Ayo was good matty
Just a minor correction: Vanilla Ice's "To The Extreme" was not Vanilla Ice's debut album, he had one in 1989 before it called "Hooked" which barely sold and was not on a major label (he re-recorded and reworked most of the songs for "To The Extreme"). Great video by the way, huge fan of your work. I also think the critics were too hard on "Speeding Bullet to Heaven" as I really enjoyed it!
Thanks! Yeah i meant to say debut 'studio' album haha
@@mattyballz Yeah, that's probably fair (maybe "major label debut" would fit? I dunno). I'm really nitpicking, I get it. "To The Extreme" is by all intents and purposes his first *REAL* album, the previous one was horrible (I own a copy of it oddly enough). I also own a copy of his nu metal albums, and good god are they a trainwreck. Thanks for taking the time answer me!
he did day *major label* debut
@mattyballz also vanilla ice is not the name of the stand. Vanilla ice is the name of stand user while cream being the stands name
I had no idea that rebirth did that bad😭I loved his rock era. prom queen & hot revolver are some of my favorite Wayne songs
It didn’t do bad at all. The album is platinum, Prom Queen is platinum, Knockout is platinum and Drop The World is 5x platinum.

Matty i really appreciate the MGK explanation at the start . As much hate as MGK gets he did not fail switching genres and the numbers prove that.

Love the PLAGUE hat bro!!!!
You deserve a like bro
Speeding Bullet 2 Heaven was a Seance with Kurt Cobain ,it's fire, literally listen to it from top to bottom once a month
Prom queen, drop the world, and knockout were pretty big hits. They were played on the radio a lot when that album was released, I remember it
I haven’t even watched the vid yet but I know it’ll be fire.
Edit: it was indeed fire.
The thing about MGK is he already had fans from the rock genre so it wasn’t really that hard for them to get around his new phase
Yeah. He wasn't a hardcore rapper, he had always made rock songs, people who rocked with him then didn't feel the difference
Lil Wayne's rebirth was not a fail it went gold
Matty ballz i love your vids , also first🎉🎉🎉
It doesn’t truly feel like Monday unless Matty Drops
It’s wild bc I really did like Everybody by Logic… but I also completely understand why everyone was clowning on him for constantly talking about being mixed.
Some of his best songs were on that album imo … and some of his worst lmao. That album is supposed to be listened to front to back though, when certain songs are isolated it can be very cringe
Vanilla Ice had a couple TV shows in the mid 2000s, where he would flip McMansions down in Florida. I'm pretty sure this was pre-2008, so that probably didn't end well for him.
13:04 The album cover to Speedin Bullet 2 Heaven looks like Cudi is preforming Echolocation

I honestly think speeding bullet to heaven was amazing!
There's a lot of you in the comments. I just don't get it, and I can't.
SBTH isn’t even that bad of an album, yeah it has a lot of unpleasant sounds but if you have a taste in music that doesn’t cater to only rap and hip hop i believe you’d like at least a couple songs. the album is dark, emotional and full of passion and it’s so much more real than what most artists convey in their music and for that i appreciate this album far more than the general audience does. its gotten me through some tough shit due to its grittiness and how unapologetic it is, cudi really put his demons on display and i could relate to that. unpopular opinion but it doesn’t deserve the hate it gets
It's a very boring and slow album,no energy to it.
@@justinarzola4584 sounds like you didn’t even listen to it at all, it obviously has a lot of energy and ebbs and flows like any other musical production

I agree. When I'm not in the mood for rap I put it on. Nothing on there will ever be a number one, but all the tracks are solid.
I literally came here to see if you'd mention MGK, so to see that you acknowledge the fact that he's actually doing insanely well was nice to see
