Marc Nassif Cato really wasn't happy to support Pompey. But when it came down to it, he'd rather support Pompey who is more likely to maintain the status quo, than to support Ceasar who he distrusts and has unclear goals.

Cato and Pompey never really trusted each-other, they just had a common enemy. This is why after Pompey was defeated they separated and Cato went to North Africa without him.
Cato was the biggest failure in the world. Bibilus looks like a beacon of accomplishment in comparison. Fuck Cato. He died in too dignified and not painful enough of a way if you ask me.

And furthermore, a country doesn't become a superpower due to geography. In what sense? Productivity and wealth? If that's the case, there's plenty of countries that beat the USA by a major landslide, only they are tinier countries without the same population. I really enjoyed Dan Carlin's Death Throes of the Republic, which goes back all the way from the Gracchi brothers, through Marius/Sullah, till Caesar's assassination. This channel has been so great, as it really dives into the parts that Death Throes couldn't fit within its format, yet preserves the drama of this story. It's unbelievable that this stuff really happened, truth really is stranger than fiction...

We need a good "Rome" like tv show that covers Roman politics from early Julius Caesar to either the ascention of Augustus or the end of the Julio-Claudian Dynasty.
I don't know if it fits your description, but there was an HBO series that ran for 2 seasons called "Rome" that followed (sort of) the tale of Julius and Augustus Caesar (be it not 100% historically accurate, nor filled to the brim with politics like it probably was back then). There are some parts that show all famous people that this channel mentioned to date- Caesar, Cicero and Cato, although the major focus is on Caesar, with Cicero being a big supporting character and Cato to an even lesser extent. I recommend it very much, even without considering it being about Rome it is a very good show.
I have seen it, but on my opinion the focus was completely off, focussing of Vorenus en Pullo for no particular reason. I normally just skip all their scenes. In my opinion that series isnt good.
Yeah I thought that what you meant, wasn't sure though. I disagree with saying that the focus was off, as I think that it was a very clever way to put some more narrative-driven characters in it without compromising its historical accuracy (as much as possible obviously), but I can completely see your point. I do think that it was a missed opportunity to do a new, "modern" TV show about how Roman life was, with all of its wonder and weird-to-contemporary-people glory and beauty. Another TV show that's supposed to be really good (I'm saying supposed because I haven't watched it myself) is "I Claudius", which follows Emperor Claudius and the intricate and shady business around him and the manipulations trying to be the strongest person in the Roman empire. Heard almost only good things about it.
I have seen I Claudius, it is magnificent. It focuses on the right characters and is based on the intrigue of the time. I would recommend watching it. A good modern series should focus on a combination of intrigue, politics (including policy), and battles. Though battles might be too expensive.
If such a show will air and will be good all-round, I'd would be following it religiously. Sadly enough it seems people aren't really interested in accurate historic dramas (even though Vikings, even be it not historically accurate, having a large fan-base).

Could you do a video on Sulla? or have you already and I am missing something? He is precursor of the eventual Empire and the only I can think of from history who simply retired after his reign of terror, or so is my understanding. I would be fascinated to see an in-depth analysis of this period.
It's crazy seeing Julius Caesar in this light. He almost looks like an overarching villain in the stories of these senators. Some guy growing in power from alliances to controversial figures and in adoration from the masses, sometimes clearly involved in shady businesses, other times just looking suspicious. Really makes him seem intimidating as even a low level politician
