No, many poor Chinese can’t afford the high tuition fees, and the rent of apartments beside the school is also expensive because of the fame of the school. Not only Maotanchang is, many schools like maotanchang such as Hengshui. They are particularly for rich Chinese family to get higher quality education resources. As for poorer students. They can only study in a poor and remote schools.

I thought I was smarter than my cousin in China who was studying all day for the past 3 years for the gaokao.
Then he showed me his maths questions in his exam and I showed him my maths questions of my exam.
I would had scored 0 in his exam, and he would have scored a 10 in mine.

Sadly, this is the reality. This is how it always was-- of course I don't live in China, Japan or Korea but I am an Asian striving to receive straight A's because receiving less than that would make me a failure. Receiving lower than a total average of 90 would make me a disgrace.
Most of my classmates (I'm in 7th grade) already have white hair since they were in 5th grade. It's unfortunate that this is seen as normal in the eyes of society. The numbers you receive on your report card decides your whole worth.
In 7th grade, I have already experienced making a thesis, reporting without any preparations, and 13 hours of studying everyday. I'm very concerned for my fellow students and would like to lessen the time children spend inside a classroom but I'm merely a child.

I feel like I saw this in a CCTV documentary, same school and location but different students. It’s actually really interesting the amount of pressure but you also realised that’s that only thing they can do coming from a poor family and competing against 9 million students in a college entrance exam. In China depending on which uni you get into determines almost your success and stability to find a good job and support your family. Majority of the families in this town has abandoned their job or factories or they actually only work by pulling a bike, cooking and see. It’s so sad for both parents and children but it must be so hard to have such a competitive education because of the over population in the country. The parents in here are somewhat admirable but also sometimes very pressuring. If you see the documentary in which this short video was surrounded upon you can see the passion and determination of the teachers not wanting the students to end up where they parents are now. Although they are really pushy they do also encourage and work hard to the point of wanting to fundraiser for a student who was willing to study.
It’s a really complicated educational system in China. So sad for the students who experience so much pressure in their young life and the life and death situation of being able to provide for the family or forever living in poverty making a few yen since they can never be employed.😔😔

It’s also important to understand how much your physical, mental and emotional health also deeply affects your results on such tests.
When your body senses no need to fight for survival, it allows you to think more efficiently and clearly. That’s why you also need to rest well, eat well, exercise, and maintain as low levels of regular stress as possible.

We had those annoying after school reviews that keeps me from watching anime grrr lol. Luckily, they abolished both the elementary & high school national exams during our time. What are the statistics on Anxiety +Depression +Suicide among Chinese highschoolers?
Am glad that my country is moving away from a single exam that determines a person's future.
Standardized national exams are so faulty in determining a person's ability it's like having some fish compete with land animals or vice versa.
No exam is worth this kind of emotional toll on any student and in extension entire families 😌

Married to a flight attendant I've made over 100 trips to Asia. What I've noticed on these flights are the Asian kids are studying math, physics or chemistry while American kids are playing games on their iPads and iPhones. Just my honest observation.

I think an approach like that isn’t helpful. Sure, there are tons of American kids who are spoiled and may not be the brightest, but there are also tons of overworked Chinese kids who are on the verge of suicide. There needs to be some moderation.

I regret not studying hard in my high school years( coz now I'm applying for schools and taking various test. It's nerve wracking) but I am still glad I had a choice and my parents did not pressure me at all.

Wherever you are, however you are, I know you have the potential to achieve great things and indeed, there may be times when you've proven yourself as incapable but let's not forget about those times you've proven yourself worthy. These little hiccups throughout your life may seem great, but in actuality, you are not alone. If it takes you longer to get there, do not be discouraged, instead you should admire yourself for standing up over and over again despite the setbacks. To be honest, I was never the best and I did not score as well as expected from my family, friends and myself. However, as time passes, I've managed to learn a valuable lesson and that lesson goes something like this "When you commit to anything, regret shan't exist but instead, know bear."
Remember, always find something you're gratitude towards because contentment is key.
