Japan is great! The infrastructure, culture, how clean and well put together everything is, how safe it is. Managed really good. And in Tokyo, city of many millions one can feel at peace. It’s a country everyone should visit in their lifetime.
Our 16 year old is really interested in Japan, we hope to make it there eventually. Looks amazing! We just celebrated our 1 year anniversary of full time travel yesterday!
Japan is the best place I've been lucky enough to visit. Loved everything about it. Love this channel. Huge admiration for this guy, truely making the most of life.
The big orange color temple was impressive but the other buildings and scenery were very cool too. And not a lot of tourist it looked like for the most part. And I loved the cemetery.
Wow👌 its such a beautiful n peaceful place... Gabriel, an American wearing Indian goddess T-shirt visiting Japanese Buddhist temple 😂 ... Too bad No cute Buddhist monks 😉 😆...waiting for more Gabe ❤❤❤
Don't miss the Shinto shrine on the island of Itsukushima (popularly known as Miyajima), best known for its "floating" red torii gate. It is a day trip from Hiroshima. After the shock on the senses that Hiroshima is, the peaceful and beautiful island was great medicine.
Peter H. And pet a free roaming deer. The Otori Gate is Huge and Magnificent! Was there last May and climbed the mountain. Hiroshima, the A-Dome was very something.
I have been to Koyasan once. This video brought back the memories that I was strongly impressed by the cemetery where there are more than 200,000 graves of famous people including high ranking "samurai" of 17th century. It's a tranquil graveyard, indeed.
Beautiful, beautiful! Looks like right out of a Miyazaki animation, like Totoro. Really incredible area. Did I see on the map that the cemetery and temple complex are UNESCO heritage sites? What a cool place. 👍🏼✌🏼
Love this series on Japan!!! Great job Gabriel, really inspiring!!! FYI Sashimi is raw fish w/no rice - sushi is raw fish on top of rice - maki is fish or veggies (or both) wrapped in rice. If possible please eat large qtys of it while there!!
What a wonderful video from beautiful Koyasan. The Japanese people are truly cordial and maintaining there old culture as well. Great camera work Gabe. Thanks.
um,... excuse me for the correction,... Kukai (not Kaiku) but now he is called Kobo-Daishi ... there are also really nice hiking trails in the surrounding mountains but you have to careful for bears. It's nice you went to the cemetery,... many of the ruling clans wanted to be buried or memorialized here so it's a neat history lesson to pass each grave.
The founder of Koya is kuu-kai. If you like koya, there is a place called Nikko in Tochigi prefecture north of Tokyo that was founded by ieyasu, the founder of unified Japan. They have shaved ice so good there, you will be depressed for the rest of your life after you leave Japan.
Thanks Gabriel for vlogging about 1 of my fav countries i.e JAPAN :) Nice 2 c u with a Goddess Kali printed T-shirt Eagerly waiting for Tokyo vlogs...good luck from India buddy
Finally sunny! The rice ball you ate is called Onigiri, basically just rice ball. Sashimi only refers to raw fish, and Sushi refers to rice marinated with vinegar (down not necessarily come with fish).
This town is stunning. I hope to experience in person one day. And I look forward to the Nara Deer Park vlog, I've seen it on other videos, it looks wonderful there!
Great, thanks a lot Jen. How was the audio while watching this one, was it too loud or too quiet in certain parts? Someone else commented that they had to adjust the volume while watching. Trying to get the audio levels worked out.
Beautiful and tranquil graveyard. Do you think the families have any part in keeping the grave stones and surrounding area in order? Very interesting. I love what I’ve seen of rural Japan.
The cemetery reminds me of the one in Qufu, China where Confucius is buried. When I visited being that my 2 colleagues & I were short on time (as we were on a day trip to Qufu) instead of walking around the “forest cemetery” we took a hired motorized convenience driven by a local at a the entrance of the cemetery. Do they have such an option at this cemetery?
Interestingly the more spiritual, sacred and peaceful the place is, the lonelier we find it, it is noticeable the lack of interest (?) by youngers and the preference of the elder at these places. This is one of your top videos Gabriel. thanks for sharing!
Wonderful and beautiful. Just a small correction the saint who started this sect ‘Shingon Buddhism’ whose site you are visiting was Kukai not Kai-ku like you are pronouncing. But thanks a ton for this beautiful beautiful video
No doubting this is a lovely place, historic in many forms, with lots to see & do.. So is it visit the tourist information centre, & get told make sure you've done all you want to do, including eating out by 6pm🤔 as the town seems to shut down 😕Peak Season is that really the way to promote tourism, think not...
17:18 Yes they were rice balls, onigiri. Also that particular noodle soap is called udon. And here are three words for your future use. Sashimi is the raw slices of fish. Nigiri is the raw slices of fish on top of rice. Maki are rolls that includes raw fish, seaweed, cucumbers, shrimp and amongst other things. Sushi is the general term westerners use to describe Japanese raw fish type of food.
I could read Kanji, so I am finding Koyasan is an interesting place. The original founder of Koyasan, Kūkai (空海), ever studied Buddhism at Chang'an (長安) (present day Xi'an), then the capital of China of Tang dynasty. No doubt, this place was deeply influenced by the Buddhism of ancient China.
Been a while Gabe! Having a catch up on all your recent videos now :) Hope you’re enjoying Japan! We were in South Korea a few weeks back and loved it….we were going to jump a flight over the Japan but ended up coming over to Indonesia instead. Will definitely be making our way over at some point
A blessed good day sir Gabriel Wowwww what a nice very stunning a d very beautiful Quiet place of Koyasan Japan nice Bhuddisy temple a relaxing views and sorroundings wish to go there soon thank u so much sir Gabriel.for your nice excellent Tour keep safe always there in Canada Godbless u from your solid fan viewer from the philippines, sir vhin 🇵🇭🇵🇭👏👏👏👏👍🙏🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Do you know if the buddhists there are following the first or second buddha? Most people arent aware, but there were actually two buddhas. The first Buddha incarnated around 1800BC, and was a Vishnu avatar and he preached ahimsa (non violence). Then the second buddha, (sahkya simha buddha) incarnated around 560BC and he preached voidism. This second buddha was actually not a vishnu avatar and he achieved enlightenment after renouncing his kingdom. This is the buddha that most buddhists follow.
As far as I know all Buddhists are following the teachings of the second Buddha you referred to from the 6th century BC. It sounds like the first one you mention might be someone from Hinduism or maybe Jainism? I'm really not sure about that.
really cool japan videos! got one question (of many), where did you got the information where you can't film? for example the temple where you said before you can't film there before you walked there. and how many times you were told not to film here? i'm really curious... ^^
My daughter in law teaches English to some Japanese students ranging in age. Some want to learn words and some learn conversation. Non the less the Japenese are very patient with us who don't speak their language.
A lot of people do speak English, enough to get around pretty easily. Especially anyone who is likely to interact with tourists such as the info people at the airport and train stations, the workers at the subway, the hotel reception, etc. But also many of the locals will speak English. Certainly not everyone, in many of the local restaurants they won't speak any English.
I would like to recommend that you remember a few Japanese words. It will be helpful when you get lost in Japan. Where(doko) is a rail station(eki) /bus terminal(bus)/ taxi stand(taxi)/restroom(toilet/toire)/restaurant(resutoran)/hospital(byoin)? ---ask simply using three words like "eki wa doko (polite way: add desuka)? bus wa doko? taxi wa doko? toire wa doko? restoran wa doko? byoin wa doko?" Remember that an interrogative pronoun such as "where"(doko) always comes at the end of a sentence in Japanese.
Gabriel, I absolutely LOVE what you’re doing!!! ❤️ Every day I look forward to getting an alert for a new video from you. I’ve got ritualistic about it in almost a meditative way by being at peace and enjoying that little slice of the world you post during my day. Big time music junkie here so I’m loving your ambient song choices too! Only thing I don’t like about your vlog is not being able to find them! 😆 #chairmanmaf
Cool Dustin, glad you're digging the videos and the music. I'm assuming you've figured out that the music is always listed in the description below each video? A lot of the music comes from the youtube audio library. So that's available through your youtube account itself. I'm not sure if it's available to everyone or only if your channel is at a certain level. Some of my recent music is from Epidemic Sound, a website I just signed up for. But you would need to have an account to be able to download the music from them. Some of the other music comes from other websites that you can definitely download from. If that's the case then I include a link to the song. So make sure to check below the video and there might be a direct link. There's one for the last song that was in this video.
Gabriel Traveler Yes, I’ve seen the links posted on your videos. I’m a big time Spotify user so I just meant I checked there first, and then Apple Music and Pandora. Next for me would be just finding if the artist had a website, but I just may sign up on that Epidemic Sound site. I really love ambient music and try to keep it a bit organized to only going to 1 or 2 sites or sources to listen when I’m traveling or in the car to keep it all together and organized. Really appreciate your response. ✌️
Japan is great! The infrastructure, culture, how clean and well put together everything is, how safe it is. Managed really good. And in Tokyo, city of many millions one can feel at peace. It’s a country everyone should visit in their lifetime.
What a beautiful cemetery and wonderful town to visit....so orderly, clean and stunning architecture
Our 16 year old is really interested in Japan, we hope to make it there eventually. Looks amazing! We just celebrated our 1 year anniversary of full time travel yesterday!

NICE VILLAGE...more Japan on a Small Area I Have never Seen before. Real Nice and Authentic. Thanks Gabe.
The big orange color temple was impressive but the other buildings and scenery were very cool too. And not a lot of tourist it looked like for the most part. And I loved the cemetery.
You are a dream. To cut your comfort and travel free only to show up-to-date the world. Fearless! God bless!.
So cool! We're planning a trip to Japan in the spring and now Koyasan is definitely on our must see list. Thanks for sharing!
So beautiful, lush green and peaceful...thanks for showing us another amazing place!
Absolutely gorgeous. And peaceful. Wow! Thank you, Gabriel

Must be one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world. Most beautiful I've seen and I'v been to quite a few places.
It is indeed stunning.

Great vlog of a beautiful place.
Very interesting and informative presentation of Buddhist temples. Wonderful place also. Thanks.
I think we're adding Japan to our bucket list. Pretty awesome bro.

Great video. Very glad you seem to have done a lot of research. I will be visiting Koyasan next week!
Gabriel! I hope you also visited the Okuno-in cemetery at night! It has the most magical atmosphere I ever experienced!
Thanks Gabriel for vlogging about 1 of my fav countries i.e JAPAN :)
Nice 2 c u with a Goddess Kali printed T-shirt
Eagerly waiting for Tokyo vlogs...good luck from India buddy
What a lovely peaceful town .so good to hear Kevin McLeod to.
WOW! A lot to see in this video!
Cool, I’m traveling japan right now and hadn’t heard of this place!
Awesome video as always!
Finally sunny!
The rice ball you ate is called Onigiri, basically just rice ball. Sashimi only refers to raw fish, and Sushi refers to rice marinated with vinegar (down not necessarily come with fish).
Volume was good , great tour of the temples and area. Goodjob Gabriel
Awesome, glad to hear it.
This town is stunning. I hope to experience in person one day. And I look forward to the Nara Deer Park vlog, I've seen it on other videos, it looks wonderful there!
Awesome Gabriel! I love how you keep all these beautiful, interesting, and educational. You are my Wikipedia! haha
Beautiful place!
I loved this video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Epic video! I really enjoyed it. And I like your style how you end the video with a meal. 👍🏻

Cemetery was cool. been there a long time. look at those trees.
generally I find all Japan Travel videos boring.. but not this one. Great videos!

I think that sushi you had with the rice and nori seaweed wrap is generally known as maki sushi 😊
Stay safe and happy :)
Love
I am definitely going here next month. FLAT EARTH! IT AINT A GLOBE PEOPLE!

Awesome video. Where will you be heading next?
I went to Nara next and then Kyoto.
Hi Gabe, are you doing "how expensive is Japan / Kyoto" video? Loving the Japan videos!
Yes, I filmed one talking more about prices yesterday.
that 5:54 "it said 819 in wikipedia" (maybe typo lol) is so brilliant narration. omg. also nice camera shots.
17:18 Yes they were rice balls, onigiri. Also that particular noodle soap is called udon.

Maki are rolls that includes raw fish, seaweed, cucumbers, shrimp and amongst other things. Sushi is the general term westerners use to describe Japanese raw fish type of food.
Sounds good, I'll try to remember!
I love how you make better videos walking around with a little GoPro than most vloggers do with $10k worth of camera equipment.
Sweet, thanks. :)
Amazing🥰

Yes, Japan was extremely open towards China around the year 800, that changed later on.
greetings from India
Hey Gabriel, could you try the Matcha tea in Japan? I really want to see the entire ritual making the drink.
Cheers!
Welcome To Kansai Japan!
If I ever went to Japan and had to use Hashi/ Chopsticks I would starve!!!!! I can't use them to save myself lol..

Gabriel, nice video. Small correction: the monk's name who established Koyasan is Kukai. Ku=heaven or sky. Kai=ocean.
Thanks, that's what I meant to say.
japan looks so clean like you could eat off the streets lol
really dream

No people speak Japanese there.

You use the gopro h 6, right? Do you use protune, and if you do, wich sound setting do you use when you talk in to the camera?
Yes, GoPro 6. I use the "wind only" setting since I'm outside a lot and it helps to filter out background noise.

What is the name of the hostel you stayed in Koyasan? Thanks.
I had a private room. It was called Koyasan Guesthouse Tommy.
Enjoy watching your travels, but please slow down on the motion of your videos. I'm getting a bit dizzy but still want to watch.
Are you going to Climb mount fuji
Not sure yet, I'll see.
Omg ur t-shirt that is Indian godess Kaali. Keep up the good work mate loved your video.
Such a beautiful place. No doubt people there are very happy.
Noticed your t-shirt with Maa Kali printed in it. Nice.
Pineapple smoothie? Sure looks like a sliced mango to me. What chu say? 😆
Maybe you're right about that. I don't remember noticing either way as far as the taste. It was good though.
Not Kaiku but Kukai.
