If you want to be able to use your phone then rent a pocket WiFi, it's a small box that connects to your phone for WiFi anywhere in Japan. You just put it in an envelope and post it back at the end of your trip, easy peasy.
The best time to visit Osaka castle park is during the spring around April, when all the cherry blossom trees on the sidewalk bloom. It's quite stunningly beautiful.
"Around The Good World" said exactely what I feel watching your videos. Thanks for the possibility to see Japan, which I will probably never visit, not being as mobile as I once was... Every video you post confirms you are definitely the best travelogger here !
I was just there last spring for the cherry bloom. It was absolutely amazing! The inside of the castle has some really amazing, beautiful old paintings and graphic novel-style, old books on display full of really interesting drawings and history. Also beautiful masks and armor. If you're actually into Japanese art and history it's a great exhibit.
The cloth blinds hanging in the entrance of restaurants can give a clue to what type of food is served. Look for an image of steaming noodles to identify a soba restaurant, which is one of the tastiest and most filling meals in Japan. Usually quite inexpensive as well.
I was on my military base in italy in a place where soldiers can go and relax. They were playing a Netflix movie called ‘Pedal the World’ and swear I thought it was you!! You need your own Netflix movie
That comment you made was so funny when you tried that food. Yeah Its good, whatever that is I dont know lol! Love your videos Gabe! I never miss any! Keep it up brother 👍
I like that you gave us your opinion of the food taste. Usually you just show the meal. Keep doing that! It’s interesting to know what other people think of foreign food.
Great video on Osaka and the fun things you saw, that outdoor exercise/martial arts exercise was interesting. I went to Osaka in December and compared to then, looks a lot more green here!
The mobile phones in Japan, South Korea work on a different frequency bands from the rest of the world (they never introduced GSM), and have to be made for that market. I new that my iPhone won’t work there and you can’t get a local sim as a tourist also, so I rented a wifi hotspot thing for my stay, it made everything super easy.
That sign on the ground says don't leave/park any bike there. The bronze coin with the hole is 5 yen. Since you are in Osaka you should visit the aquarium (called kaiyukan). If you want to get sake in japan, be sure to make sure you say the ke in sake as in the ke in kenya in English. If you say saki by accident it means "before or in advance" in Japanese, they don't hear that you want sake the alcohol.
Impressive castle... I bet the foundation was built way before that castle.. Way way before... Those stones were cut with precision and inner lock perfect...
6:51 I think it might be Falun Gong, which is a new religious movement that originated in Northern China that's based off of the ancient Chinese qigong practices as well as influence of Chinese Buddhism. As it was banned in China by the Communist Party, many Falun Gong practitioners fled to other parts of the world like Japan, England, the United States, and Australia to escape persecution
I don't know about the flavor but the value seemed pretty good at $18 for a beer and three small meat entrees. Probably could have ordered a side of rice or noodles for less than a buck. I know it was hard to read the menu. Tip included?
Hey there loving your videos just a heads up if your phone isn't working you can pick up a data only SIM card from one of the big electronics store like BIC camera or Yodobashi for 20-30 dollars for a few gigs of data (cheaper than renting a portable WiFi usually), also I'd suggest picking up a suica card for use on the subway/railway works in most of country I believe. It is a top up card that means you can just tap in and out without having to calculate the train fair everytime, costs about 500 yen about 5 dollars but you can get that back at the end of your trip from any manned station.

Hi Gabriel, Interesting citadel reminds me of European medieval castles defending against foreign invaders and rival factions with a large mote. I notice there aren't any English sign displays like in other countries I'm guessing its hard to translate Japanese to English.
My mistake of you already have, but do you plan to explore various countries in Africa? I'd love to see your travel adventures there and what your experiences would be like, especially compared to other places you've trekked in your travels.
Umm wondering where you get a Colombian T-shirt in Japan?... at 12:00 it very much seems like octopus (?) Really like the hidden camera detail when ordering round fukushima quartier plus sharing the moment, nice to see your editing pc! Cheers Gabe.
That´s an interesting fact, not wearing touristy ¨Nihon ga daisukides¨ stuff or related things as you stop by, I remember you wearing a Manuh or Vishnu T-shirts in Paris and mostly Europe, it speaks for selflessness.
The food that restricts me from going japan. But finally i have to visit japan as i got scholarship to study in japan. Is there indian food available there in osaka or tokyo.
See if you can find a Yoshinoya...they have nice food cheap ...I seen one in your video @ 14:21 the orange and black sign...try the chicken and or beef bowl you may enjoy it...I know I did ;-)
Basically, When a foreigner say "sake", they mean Japanese rice wine. But when a Japanese say "sake", they just mean ANY booze. Beer, wine, vodka, whatever. When Japanese specifically mean Japanese rice wine they say "nihonshu". A lot of Japanese words are like that. For example "Manga" just means any comic books, and "Anime" just means anything animated, including things like Disney. But outside of Japan, non-Japanese people use those words to mean specifically Japanese origin.
In Japan, "sake" means alcoholic beverage... so I don't know if they didn't have sake (the beverage made from rice you probably had in mind) or if you still got what you asked for since it has alcohol in it. For some reason if you look up sake in an English dictionary, they mention the beverage made from rice, leading to confusion. Maybe a native speaker could confirm this, but I think that "nihonshu" is the Japanese word for sake specifically. I hope I'm not too far off :)
Gabe, you are spending way too much time in Osaka. You only have one month in Japan. *edit* btw, the coin on the right does have a number on it. It has the number 5 in kanji for 5 yen.
Hi Gabe, great video. Have sort of a technical question. How do you store your footage after you make a video? You flashbacked to Peru in this episode, do you have that footage on an external harddrive or something and just went back and edited? or do you use a cloud service, etc.? Just curious! Also, what video editing software do you use? Thanks so much!
I keep a few of the highlight clips on my laptop or on sd cards. I don't keep much of the new footage because the files are so big and take up too much space. For that little clip from Peru I looked on my computer and didn't have it. So I actually downloaded the old video from my channel and then had the file on my computer. Sometimes I have the clip saved on my hard drive already, other times I go to my own videos on youtube and download them.
Nice. The food looks delicious! Cool sign. I didn't know Japan was so cheap!! I thought it'd be $30 to 40 minimum for basic restaurant food. "Yama" means mountain in Japanese. "Sushi" is actually supposed to be, I think, the rice with vinegar and sugar. I don't know the word for plain rice in Japanese. Fascinating.
First time here, I'm still figuring it out. Important to understand that because I'm posting videos almost every day, I have very little time available for extensive research. For example, my first three days I was in Osaka I was focused on editing my videos from Hawaii. Then I started filming and editing the videos of Osaka. So the best I can do is figure things out as I travel and various things come up. I do read a little in my guidebook and online, but that only covers the basics. Since I travel full-time I don't have downtime before a trip to learn a lot about the places I'm going to.

Hi! Gabby, It’s saying “Parking bicycles prohibited” :) So, it’s OK to ride a bicycle there.
I see, thanks!
I was just there last spring for the cherry bloom. It was absolutely amazing!

I'm going to Osaka this November!
I like that you gave us your opinion of the food taste. Usually you just show the meal. Keep doing that! It’s interesting to know what other people think of foreign food.
Osaka seems like such a great place, I've been watching videos on it for the past 2 hours. Great video Gabriel!
Another great day! Thanks for all you do Gabe!
Such a contrast between Japan and some of the country your visited in Asia , Eastern Europe , Middle East and others.
So glad to see Osaka through your eyes! You're such a great inspiration for my channel. Keep it up Gabe :)

always love your travel vids ... make you feel like you are actually there and have experienced it in real life :)
Gabe thank you for the explanation on Osaka castle loved the video.hope to get to Japan when covid settles
Great stuff as usual. Japan is on the list.

Okay, I see, thanks for the explanation.
Those "unbutton my fly" shirts are old Levi's shirts, I think from like the 80s.
They were selling them off in Selfridges recently for less than half price for some reason.

I indeed enjoy watching this video. Gabriel ,you have done a good job.

Yes, no tipping in Japan, it's actually considered an insult.
That last meal would not have satisfied me at all. Great vlog!

There are many Indian restaurants in Japan, especially in Tokyo and Osaka.
Is there any Tourist traps/ Scams in Japan? Just wondering because Japan looks completely safe.
Tourist traps and scams are everwhere, aren't they?

"sake" just means alcohol generically, and rice wine is "nihonshu". (日本酒 generally speaking).
I'm loving your Japan stuff :)
Ah okay, good to know, thanks. I did get sake yesterday though, tasty stuff.

Someone else said the same thing so I think you're right.
It's a shame she couldn't understand, because 16:22 you can see "日本酒メニュー" which is "nihonshu menu" and all of them (10 or so) are nihonsyu.
Gabe, you are spending way too much time in Osaka. You only have one month in Japan.

Apparently you are unaware of sushi and sashimi. He’s in Japan.
Haha, yes, raw fish is a delicacy here.
Yes ... it is EXCEPT when you are expecting the fish to be cooked or to look that way.
The fish you ordered was NOT "sashimi".
Well this is true. I think it was cooked properly though, maybe it just looked not thoroughly cooked.
