It seriously pains my soul when anyone lobs them with five finger Death Punch, Imagine Dragons, and theory of a deadman. They’ve got more talent than any of those bands combined
Easily. All of those kinda never grew past being gimmicky bands (even tho they must be great on live), while a7x is clearly not. Even without the rev, the sum of their pure musical talent far still outranks like 90% of modern metal bands by itself
100%%%%%
Yes
Agreed
Unfortunately, the Rev passed just before the "Nightmare" record, they had asked Ex dream theater drummer Mike Portnoy (one of Rev's inspiratios) to fill in for the record and the tour.
I was going to comment this, RIP the Rev.
It’s important to note the Rev wrote the drums for the nightmare record. They’re just performed and expanded upon by Portnoy
only saw jimmy live once....less than a month before he died.
RIP
@@deminybs lucky, man. I missed out. I saw them with Portnoy on one of the first few stops of the Nightmare tour.
Yeahhh love revv but portnoy complete this song
Avenged Sevenfold - MIA 🔥
Mike Portnoy on the drums for this album. Rev had passed away before the recordings of the album and they got one of his favorite drummers to record the parts that had been written before the recordings began. So most of the drum parts were written by Rev and Mike just adds a little of his style here and there.
Rev did do some recording there are rough demos for a few songs from nightmare and Mike just fleshed out the little details in the drums and was the one on the final recordings.
@eddiec1753 well yeah The Rev recorded rough drums for the demos. That's how demos work. And they demoed every song that ended up on the final album. There's also a video somewhere of Matt or Brian saying that they let Mike Portnoy go a little crazy with this song because it wasn't fully fleshed out before Jimmy died.
Boys are coming back in 2023 with their new album after 7 years!
A7X has the best intros bar none and they're amazing live!!! 💯🔥
I remember that episode. She got drunk, married that dude, and was trippin when she found out her new name was Marcy D'Arcy :)
This song is One of my favourites from them.
Avenged Sevenfold - Requiem is amazing too.
There is nothing so eerie as having been to one of their shows in 2010 after the album dropped and hearing the band drop out so the entire venue is singing "Tonight we all die young" together with Matt." Beautiful, heartbreaking. I'll never forget it.
This album was originally a concept album about the life of a man from birth to death, his mistakes, his life, his regrets... Then when the Rev died, much of the lyrics got rewritten in their grief (and understandably so). Many of them are a direct reflection of the band's grieving process as they finished the album. They genuinely believed it would be their last at the time.
I bet. I couldn’t play the ending of this song for a long time. The shit I was dealing with at the time was enough but then add The Revs passing on top and it was just too much. hearing those words sang with the emotions M Shadows put into them along with the piano was heartbreaking.
Avenged Sevenfold is like listening to a Classic Musical Symphony. Every time.
yep. that’s exactly it
I suggest TONIGHT THE WORLD DIES
From the same album, much like this song it’s just masterful, check it out, RIP REV 🌹🌹
M Shadows = Matt Sanders = vocals
This album was recorded and toured with the band by MIKE PORTNOY and Jimmy was a huge fan of his work.
Mike Portnoy was in a band called Dream Theatre, he’s a damn good drummer
NEW A7X album coming in 2023!!!!
I was just about to suggest this as well, it's such an underrated song
My kid walked in while the song was playing and said Woah that sounds pretty good! A banger is a banger.
I wouldn’t say they’re “religious”… they do use a lot of religious references though including their name “Avenged Sevenfold” coming from the Book of Genesis in the Bible. This songs drummer was Mike Portney, the original replacement of The Rev. Their current drummer now is Brooks Wackerman, most well known as the drummer for Bad Religion. Love this song and y’all’s reaction! Rock on! RIP Rev foREVer 🤘🏻🖤
Easily their best best song. So much raw passion and heart felt emotion. A great tribute for a great drummer
Their name is a reference to the story of Cain and Abel. And an early favorite was their song Chapter 4 which was thar story.
Also, that's Portnoy drumming
chapter 4 is soooo good
10,000 foot krutch, skillet, striper, Black veil brides are a few Christian rock bands!!!
The end of the song, the chorus tonight we all die young was something that the rev helped work on and was going to be the chorus, however they couldn’t make it work, he then died and they added it to the end of the song as a tribute to him
I think this is one of their best songs, it has so much emotion.
my favourite song of all time! was a shock to see this, a nice one 😃
One of my favorite bands!! Hell yeah!!
Recently they are playing this gigantic song live!! What a treat for the fans
Avenged Sevenfold are the Masters of sounds, and the Masters of poetry. In my opinion. How they manage to switch it up so many times in so many different ways in every song , is crazy talent. I also relate to the lyrics alot.
Bad omen - like a villain 💯🔥
Yall should react to Avenged Sevenfold - Carry On!
Great lntro✨️
Have to listen to God Hates us by A7F it's a banger!!
Avenged Sevenfold is a great band, and they have another album coming soon as well, every members of the band has been:
M. Shadows (Lead Vocals since the start, also provided Guitar and Piano on the first album)
Zacky Vengeance (Rhythm Guitar and Lead Guitar before Synyster joined)
Synyster Gates (Lead Guitar after first joining in 2001, also provided Piano when needed)
Johnny Christ (Bass after first joining in 2002)
The Rev (Drummer since the start, until Nightmare, also provided Piano at times)
That's probably the bands most popular lineup, but they've had a lot more members
Matt Wendt, Justin Sane, and Dameon Ash were all Bass Guitarist that were apart of the band in between 1999 and 2002
Mike Portnoy replaced The Rev to help finish Nightmare and he did the tour, but he was only with them for that one year in 2010
Arin Ilejay replaced Portnoy in 2011 and was with the band until 2015, he recorded the Hail to the King album and also did Not Ready to Die and Carry On
Finally, Brooks Wackerman replaced Ilejay in 2015 and helped record The Stage album, and has been with them since
What did Justin Sane play I forget
@@rossmusic25Sounding The Seventh Trumpet
It's been a minute since I've listened to Avenged Sevenfold, and dang..... I forgot about the goosebumps they cause!! I love seeing people listening to songs for the first time, it brings me back to all the feelings I felt my first time!!
A song of pain, misery and reflection on the loss of their band mate and brother in life. 💔absolutely beautiful song.
The Rev began writing the album “Nightmare”, which this song was on, way back in 2005 when album “City Of Evil” was being released. There’s multiple demos out there of Rev with his vocals early in the writing process of Nightmare before he died. When Mike Portnoy took over as drummer for recording the album, he kept the drumming parts as close to how Rev had written them as he could. So essentially, this is Rev’s writing of the song as far as all the drums go, just unfortunately not performed by him. Which understandably changes it to an extent but still, Portnoy payed homage to Rev with performing it Rev’s way.
The Lyrics of most songs on the whole album were written by Rev. You can hear his voice on the album in the song “Fiction” which was the last song he ever wrote. Fiction was one of Rev’s many nicknames. But after his death, the band changed up some of the lyrics of some songs on the album, to dedicate to the Rev specifically, as if their speaking directly to him. I absolutely love how they kept Rev’s name alive in this album and I hope they continue to do that!
Current drummer is former drummer of “Bad Religion”, Brooks Wackerman. He has played on the album “The Stage” and a few EP’s/Singles. Dudes similar to Rev when it comes to masterclass writing, and intuitively writing his drum lines. He fits A7X great.
Finally, this song is a masterpiece, maybe their best ever
Mike Portnoy is an amazing drummer in his own right. It seemed like a crazy fit to bring in an old dude who played in Dream Theater, but when you really think about it, a lot of A7X's songs are very prog rock-esque.
I'm absolutely chuffed that you two reacted to Save Me. I consider it to be a gothic masterpiece and one of the band's best tracks so I'm always thrilled to see new people experience it. Thank you for a great reaction you two!
You guys should absolutely listen to The Stage next. But you have to watch the video for that, because you will not get the same feeling from the song without the video.
Morning y'all! Hey that was an awesome song! I really haven't gotten into avenge before so now I'm gonna have to! Thanks guys!🤓❤️
Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater did the drumming for the album but he is not their permanent drummer. And if you love this song buried alive must be next
Avenged sevenfold - waking the fallen
Heavily have to recommend Unholy Confessions and Chapter Four. Awesome songs
I think Rev is one of the best drummers ever, so underrated because of the genre music they played. All excellent musicians.
Awesome as usual! Hey I'm right up the road from you guys, near Greenville - keep 'em coming!
Heya neighbor! Clemson
Mike Portnoy is in the drumming hall of fame the dude absolutely did right by the rev by finishing this album after he passed. This song was originally made with parts of the revs drumming and Mike took that and finished the song basically with no script and he nailed it
the REV made the drum tracks, and Mike Portnoy came in after his passing to play the Drums on tour. But the drums are all inspired by the REV
The REV had already passed away when this album was made, but R.I.P. REV
Avenged sevenfold are such an amazing band that gets way to much hate. You should check out coming home by them next! Awesome underrated song by them
They actually been headlining some big ass gigs for years now! Shout out to u guys, excellent reaction🤘
The Rev wrote it. Watch the video making of the song Save Me by A7X it explains it all also listen to The Stage. It's fire too
I would love if you react to their older stuff like second heartbeat or unholy confessions
I liked that the song is drum heavy. 🤘
And his voice is amazing. I'd give anything to be able to sing like that.
Avenged Sevenfold is definitely a drum heavy band, they're also known for their guitar playing and the vocals. If you liked this song, I definitely recommend checking out their albums.
The album this song is from is called "Nightmare" (it was written just after the death of their original drummer, he contributed to the album while he was in the process of dying from cancer or some other terminal illness (if I'm remembering correctly)). Enjoy my friend!
@@bighomiestevethemetalhead8131 Their original drummer died from an accidental overdose.
He wrote all the songs...he didn't perform them (aside from rough demos)
He died 2 days after writing was finished, the name was already decided prior.
Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater was their drummer for this album because he was a major influence for the Rev so he volunteered to fill in for him in his honor and then toured with the band. He and the band parted ways because it was apparent that if he had stayed it would have stayed "Avenged Sevenfold Ft Mike Portnoy" and that was just not what the band wanted. At the time while A7X was indeed popular and some might say at their height because rock/metal still had some mainstream power with Warped Tour , they werent at Portnoy's level of stardom, so they felt he wouldnt have ever became a member of the band and would have just been seen as almost a guest star.
Hell yeah!!! I've been waiting for this one, thank you to the Patreon member who requested this song! I love this song, y'all should check out "Exist" from their most recent album. It's Avenged Sevenfold's other long progressive song (it's like 15 minutes long but worth it), these guys are excellent songwriters! 🤘🤘🤙🤙
You guys really need to check out something from The Stage. And from their latest album Life Is But A Dream. You'll be blown away.
My favorite music reaction channel by far. Just became a patriot ❤ I really enjoy listening to your convos and watching your reactions ✌🏼🇳🇴 I AM A MUSIC NERD. If i mispell any words im sorry. I am from Norway😅 I try
Man I love this song! One of my favorites! I will always put his vocals up with the best of rock/metal. And gates on that guitar. Man his notes are just so smooth and he makes that guitar sing!
"MARCY D"ARCY" was her name
Super composition, great reaction, men! Thank you)
Nothing has made my happier when he said “I’m starting to like this band a lot” that is some truth I loved the whole vid
I forgot about this song, and it's hitting extra hard tonight. These lyrics are like a horoscope for me right now, but actually accurate. I haven't listened to it in a hot minute but I know it so well that my finger drumming on my knee is on point lol
This album was such an interesting experience. The Rev had just died and this was A7X attempting to make sense of it and what to do next and how to feel about choosing to continue on without him.
This is my favorite song atm it's AMAZING
I believe the Rev *wrote* the drums, but Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater played drums for this whole album, and toured with them for the album cycle.
Mike Portney played this,1 of the Revz favourite drummers 😁🤘
I don't think Avenged Sevenfold's music is religious however the some of the boys did grow up in a private Catholic school. I believe shadows rev and sinister
I’ve been a fan of A7X since 2005
This song has one of my favorite intro’s of all time, the build up is so epic between the guitar & drumming. This is definitely in my top 10 favorite A7X tracks, great reaction y’all! They aren’t a straight forward Christian band, although a good portion of their songs do have religious undertones. We lost The Rev way too early, I believe he was only 28 years old.
They say all beauty must die. I say it just moves on. Poetic!
A7X as far as I know have no band members who are religious but most of their music has religious inspiration. Mainly Christianity, which is where their name comes from.
Check out A7X live at the Grammy museum Roman Sky. You will not be disappointed!!!
Avenged got left out of a lot of conversations because they were too rock for the metalheads and too metal for rock purists. They were also vilified for blowing up in the mainstream world with City Of Evil, supposedly having sold out.
I love seeing videos of people who don’t typically listen to a style of music fall in love with certain bands or even the whole genre
Please please react to "Fiction" by Avenged Sevenfold!! It was the last song that the Rev wrote and it on the same album as well. I saw A7X live on the tour after the the Rev passed with Mike Portnoy playing drums and I don't think there was a dry eyes in the arena when this song was done playing
Oh finally another Avenged Sevendold reaction, I always love this channel when react to Avenged Sevenfold
I would check out
THE STAGE
SIDEWINDER
THE WICKED END next!!!
Good morning!
A few things I’d like to recommend:
Song-“Buried Alive”
Video-The Rev playing drums in studio to “Almost Easy”
Interviews- with Synyster Gates on Rick Beato’s channel.
Thanks! Love A7X!
I love that video of Jimmy tracking "Almost Easy"! He just walks in...bangs it out...then has that "Ok, now what?" kinda look! 🤘🏼🥁🤘🏼
Strenght of the world
The Rev wrote the drums for this album and Mike Portnoy merely recorded them and toured with the band. They had a different drummer for their "hail to the king" album and their current drummer; Brooks Wackerman, played on their most recent album "The Stage" and is still with the band today
plss more avenged, i love ur guys reactions
A7X isn't a Christian band, but they do use a lot of imagery from Biblical stuff, especially on their first album Sounding The Seventh Horn. Far as religious hard rock and metal bands, there's not a lot that are good and popular, but that's same reason why Christian movies are bad, but Demon Hunter is one that comes to mind.
Stryper was/is a huge Christian rock band. As is Petra and even Skillet. Who's a ginormously popular Christian rock band
Thousand foot krutch a pretty popular rock band. Some of their harder songs usually end up on the radio when they release new stuff.
Great reaction! I've been waiting for you guys to react to the live version(in the LBC) of Little Piece of Heaven! It's amazing!
Rev wrote it and played the drum parts I believe they “ left his parts in”
The REV did all the demo work for the nightmare album hence this song aswell. So when Mike Portnoy replaced him (he was one of the REVs favourite drummers) he knew how to play the songs. The Rev had an enlarged heart condition and knew he wasnt gonna be around for long. There are several songs about the Rev. What you probably dont know about So Far Away when you listened to it is that it was the bands reply to The Rev's last song "Fiction". He created the whole song and handed it in 3 days before he passed and they ve kept his voice in that song. Its basically a good bye letter, you should definitely check it out.
Oh and there is a behind the scenes video of the recording and writing of this song
That is NOT the Rev on drums. He had already passed. That's Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater fame. He stepped in to help complete the project. He was one of the Revs favorite drummers.
I believe that’s Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater on drums for this track. He did the drums on the Nightmare album. The last album that Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan was on was the self titled album. He sadly passed away before this albums release but there is a song where you can hear Jimmy’s vocals. I think it was the track Fiction that Jimmy wrote lyrics to before he died. It’s a beautiful song.
not just that...Fiction was the last song written for the album
RIP 🪦 GOAT 🐐🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽 and thanks to mike this album was a perfect send of to A Legend
The drums in this song is amazing, please react to drum cover
Mike Portney,1 of da Revz influences 🤘
Hopefully after listening to this Epic adventure, y’all put some respect on that name and start to do more A7X reactions. One a week is necessary
I know I'm late but you guys may be rappers but you are also fellow metalheads!
Most of their music is really good
You should listen to Mattel and cosmic next ;)
That is the rev on drums
I don't know about other albums, but the drummer on the nightmare album is the drummer from Dream Theater which is another band you guys might like a whole lot.
Mike portnoy is one of the best drummers of all time he left dream theater to help avenged sevenfold on nightmare
I recommend Coming Home A7X or Nothing to Say by Slash feat M Shadows vocalist of A7X!
I think they’re most epic song
Dudes, first time seeing you. Had me drop a like by the intro. A7X are proper musicians, every album explores new territory and none can question their skill. Check out Sun's live guitar solos. Same for Jimmy "the Rev". Credit to the temp drummers and love to Brooks!
this is why the guitarrist name is Synyster Gates
Sounds like you guys need to react to 'The Blues Brothers' next. 😎
"They won't catch us, we're on a mission from God." - Elwood Blues
The singer goes by “m shadows”
yesss thank God more A7X!!
