Nice, real, and fair evaluation for both of the cars . I owned an E 55T and now an E 63T . What I would add: The E63 has a much firmer and saver suspension . May be not that important for the US, but here in Germany, where you legally can go 186 mph on the street ( both cars are able to) the E 63 will prevent you from sweat in the hands. The E 55 will need an experienced driver to handle it savely above 160 mph.

great video as always, man. i will always choose the e55 as it's much cheaper to modify as far as power mods go. the NA power is insignificant and combined with the engine problems like the head bolts I always hear about is a big minus. i think an e55 with e63 bumpers and lights would be my ultimate w211.

E55 always. Mine is a sleeper and second favourite only to my G-wagen. Have driven an E63 and is great, but seriously the E55 has more torque and feels so much better off the line. Sounds better too. I'll never sell mine.
Great video. I'm still on the fence about a final year E55 or a W212 6.3 E63. I'm a sucker for a big N/A V8 and I would never modify it. I would have no problem keeping up with the maintenance and taking it apart for the head work.
It's all about the heart, in this case the engine. M113K has long been proven to be bulletproof. As opposed to M156 with head bolt issues and cam wear issues. Not to mention the performance upgrades available for the 55k platform. Lastly I'm starting to notice that they're asking more money for a clean E55 than a clean E63 with about the same miles.
I’d get a low mileage e55 and just do the e63. Bumpers front and rear with defusers, get a big brake kit a tune, exhaust, pulley kit ! Make a cool 😎 600 crank hp while riding in comfort oh yeah and also I’d change the head lights as well and I’d be super happy 😃
E63 takes the take for tourer imo. Engine is quieter and smoother than the 13k and while the instant torque of the 55 is nice the more linear power delivery of 63 makes for smoother drives around town. I always hit the gas a little to hard in my e55 and the sc engages causing lurches in traffic.
Having the newer model Benz’s is more a symbol of power and wealth. The 2003-2010 line ups are every bit as classy and beautiful speaking on Mercedes in general.

Decent video, but it doesn't tell the whole story - in ideal conditions, the E55 is quicker, but on a hot day with a bit of spirited driving, the E55's charge cooling system simply isn't up to the task of maintaining its performance potential. Furthermore, I disagree with the notion of the E55 being cheaper to mod. On an E63, there's a 40-45 whp gain to be had with the addition of long tube headers.... Boom - 560-ish hp for all of $2500. Guaranteed to be cheaper than trying to pick up a consistent 40whp gain on an E55... and please note the use of the word consistent, because being quicker than an E63 for only one run before your engine is heatsoaked and pulling boost, isn't much use. To reliably make over 450 whp on an E55, involves way more than a pulley swop and software - you need to split the cooling system and install a new pump, reservoir and heat exchanger, otherwise it just heatsoaks badly enough to lose to even a stock E63 --- and a proper M113k kit with headers, pulley, software and a decent split cooling system, will run you about $5k.
This is definitely legitimate. It’s strange to me that AMG would spend so much money building a hand-built supercharged engine but neglect to design a proper intercooler system that can support its power. Modifications to this are required for any serious performance applications.

I had the E63 for 4 years, awesome car, but the head bolt issue and the fear of it actually happening started to eat away at my confidence in the car towards the last years of ownership. The headbolt issue really blew up on the forums early this year. The E63 also tends to have an issue with its transmission (conductor plate). When I finish building my current car, I'm probably going to want to hop into an E55

Headbolts, cam adjusters, lifters, camshafts, the first generation 722.9 7-speed gearbox - all of these are reasons why I avoided the E63 personally.

Loved my C32, was an awesome sleeper. Very easy to work on and Mod.
I like the E63 and the 6.3 engine. Would drive as is and no need to modify. Sounds hands down best.

The facelift was more then minor, it makes a huge difference on the appearance. Although I do agree the E55 is a better car.

A buddy of mine owns AMG Mercedes shop in Southern Cal and recently torn the engine out of an E63 with 3 broken head bolts. A $6,000 nightmare...
tbh, I thought it was a lot more....like in the 20's or 30's but yea thats shitty.
Which is why anyone with an M156 should replace them proactively. Heads don’t need to be pulled either, you just gotta replace one bolt at a time.

Conductor plate is a 5 speed Auto issue with all MB vehicles. Its not really that bad and can be fixed wothout removing the transmission.
Just replace the head bolts preventatively to the newer ones. Problem solved
I like those e63 fog lights. Thinking how hard is to modify those to the e55's bumper..
