It’s time to find out which estate from the 2000s was the fastest! We’ve got the Audi RS6 C6, the BMW E61 M5 Touring and the AMG E55 Estate lining up to do battle over the quarter-mile.
First up we have Mat in the RS6, which is powered by a 5-litre twin-turbo V10 to deliver 579hp and 650Nm of torque. It weighs in at just over 2-tonnes, and it also comes with Quattro all-wheel-drive!
As for the BMW, it’s hiding a 5-litre naturally-aspirated V10 up-front, which puts down 507hp and 520Nm. It weighs a fair bit less than the RS6, coming in at 1,880kg, but unlike the Audi it’s just rear-wheel-drive.
Finally we have the AMG E55, which houses a 5.4-litre supercharged V8. It delivers the least power, with just 476hp, but it has the ability to put down 700Nm! And just like the BMW, it’s just RWD.
Surely it’ll be a walkover for the Audi, right?! There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

I remember back in the days when the C6 RS6 was launched, I thought that there was a typo in the horsepower. They must mean 480hp, I thought. But nah... 580! Those were the days. Imagine that meeting among Audi engineers back then. "Lets put a Lambo V10 in our estate.. And then add two turbos on it.". Insane. Those days are long gone.
Hope they put todays R8 v10 in... A c8.5 or maybe a c9 rs6... But that may become impossible due to today's regulations.
Honestly though... lets slap a lambo v10 in our FAMILY car.. and WHILST we're at it. Lets just plop a Le-mans derrived twin turbo V12 IN A FAMILY SUV?!?!?!?!

All I can say from personal experience is this ... RS 6 is a beast on the German Autobahn ( highway ), makes supercar owners to sweat all over when it approaches them , simply because there isn't any other car able to accelerate like that . Perhaps because of that enormous Lamborghini engine in combination with the Quattro system , its just pure madness .
A friend of mine had one in Cologne and we traveled all the way to Bremen with it ...no Ferrari , no Lambo , no Porsche , nothing could keep up with that "missile" .
Yes, it’s true… I owned a RS6 … compared to the E55 or M5 V10 the RS6 seemed a little bit boring, because Quattro and Automatic my grandma could be fast with it. And the high weight of that fat engine in the front of the car made that you only had fun on the Autobahn not curved streets… my RS6 had 598PS on the dyno in stock, but if I changed the map for 800€, it was another car!!! Boost was taken higher from 0,6 to 1,1 bar, and it was real fast… I didn’t had it on the dyno with that new map, but it went very fast over the 300 km/h, an the speedo was at the end over 340 and GPS said 329… and there was more possible… a killer …but the cars from today like M5 or Porsche turbo s are much faster…
@@vinnyvin9574 what I am about to tell you , I saw it with my own eyes . Me at the passenger seat , my buddy drives the RS6 ( not sure which model ) but from factory had 650 bhp . We are returning from Cologne to Gummersbach , on the Autobahn we meet a Lamborghini which tried to make the distance between us grow ... unfortunately my buddy had other plans ...lol 😂 He couldn't go away even at high speeds and I can tell with certainty if we had a kilometre more we would passed him , but he took an exit to another direction.

Exactly, it would make more sense to have a comparison with the e63 and the 7g-tronic box which is quicker than the much older 5g-tronic on the e55.
Nevertheless the e55 is a legend and was the quickest upon release.

Its unreliable to those who don't know how to maintain them. Being a big v10 (for a bmw) it tends to burn through spark plug (hard to get to within itself being in a V) they had transmission issues at 60k and if not mistaken overhauling around high 90-100k. If properly taken care of, when the car throws you the codes, or maintenance prior to service intervals; you'd actually have a badass v10 m5 for it's time. If only the U.S received to wagon. Thanks emissions.

E55s are so underrated, absolute monsters for their time 👌
E55s are one of the most popular older amg's, especially in terms of modification and aftermarket. And it was by far the best selling amg when it was new. I don't think you know what underrated means
@@obnxsdonky9394The W211 E55 didn't receive anything like the attention or hype of the E39 or E60 M5, or even the E55's successor the E63 AMG.
There are multiple articles online and in magazines about how much of an unsung gem the car is, alot of people had/have absolutely no idea that the E55 was once for a brief time the fastest 4 door saloon on the planet.
Yet when the E60 M5 was released, the entire motoring world was in awe of it yet for most, the E55 was in many ways a still a far better car (certainly in terms of reliability anyway) .
Ask most people in the developed world what an M5 is, they'll tell you immediately it's a fast bmw, ask most people what an E55 is and theyll have no clue.
It might not be underrated by AMG fanboys, but to the majority of car enthusiasts and people in general it certainly and criminally is...
They were rare in there day and impossible to find now in the us. M5's were just too common. That was a proper Benz before the Chrysler group spoiled the party. It was also a car truly built buy AMG. I am convinced the right folks bought these and are just sitting on them with lovely car covers in garages of the collectors. Probably the best looking E in 30 years since the 500E

A simple tune on the E55 can get it easily to 550hp and 800nm+ it’s the bargain of the century
Imagine what a tune to a 5.2 twin Turbo will do. The Audi will walk all over it. Again.

@@alexfrost8561 dont wanna hate on the e55 but the c6 rs6 is seeeeeriously underhyped. There is at least 20 with 1000hp + even in germany where tuning seems to be a sin and its still got awd. If youre looking for straigt line speed the rs6 is def the way to go altough more expensive and labour intensive. However it rewards you with a top speed of 220mph + and is quick enough to let last gen turbo s drivers disappear from your rear view mirror within seconds.

The e55 has legendary build quality and performance. There's an autobann video that came out recently that showcases how fast the car is. That m5 is rare as hens teeth.
I think more important in this race is Audi's quattro drive. From the first Quattro appearance it's the best four wheels drive.

You could also bring a 2006 Mercedes E63 AMG with a 6.2L engine and 507bhp. It has a 7-speed gearbox
Tbh m5 never had their 507hp but the engine is a dream this high rev v10, with a proper Gearbox it should have a chance against the Merc. But Audi with most power and 4wd is out of the competition.
That Merc is wicked. With only 5 gears, no all wheel drive, 2 less cylinders and essentially one less turbo than the Audi, it was not too far behind. Imagine it with the 7 speed and some all wheel drive. These were the days of great motoring.

The Audi gears are still long, the car weighs more and has more drivetrain loss. The C6 is a monster

M5 might be slower than the E55 but that V10 is one of the best sounding engines of all time

I had one with puller & headers ! What a car ! Bulletproof, unlike the other cars in this test. 13 mpg got a bit boring though.

I am actually quite happy watching this. I grew up wanting all of these and i have now owned all of them :D I still have the RS6. Instead of the M5, I had the M6... And crashed it... :( They are all awesome! The V10 single clutch BMW is very special and the RS6 needs to be tuned. It's quite big and heavy being factory standard

My Boss had that RS6 as a MTM version with >800hp. That was a hell of a car. So damn loud and fast like nothing else.

These can launch must better than what was shown. The conditions aren't exactly ideal. Its pretty wet on the road, hence the poor performance. The e60s can run a 12.5 quarter mile

It’s actually not as good. The torque of the E55 is what propels it, and although the 6.2 has plenty, it’s a bit mismatched for the E Class, SL and S Class. It’s much more fun in the CLK, C63 and SLS. The E55 did great, not far off the Audi with 100hp less.

Gearbox lets the BMW M5 down.
The trick is to slightly lift off and have it in S5 setting. Otherwise you get too much lag between shifts and just drop time.
IIRC you can engage the s6 if you disable traction.. And also I love all these cars but I still feel something was VERY off with that m5. Sh1tty driver, changing too soon, engine trouble, 10yold stuffed air f. ... I dunno... Cause Ive seen tons of drags and this is too slow for it.

turns out rs6 beats the e60 M5, in that time.. I like the old RS6tho, the interior looks so ahead of its time, yet modern for the standarts today. Still super fast and u get twin turbo v10.

It would be quite nice to se a re make of this but with a mapped rs6, mapped e55 with a pulley swap and a supercharged e61, there’s a company in Germany(obviously) that supercharges them and they make silly power. Also all those cars exhausts were meant for one thing, removing. They all sound absolutely gorgeous with a straight through or a sports exhaust.
The 2000s was the golden era for cars
The 90s would like a word...I may not have been old enough to drive any of the 90s cars but I'll take a McLaren F1 over anything from the 00s. Also hot hatches were more fun and supercars were at their best (Diablo, F355, Pantera, Atlantique, etc). No super estates though, so the 90s were more fun but these are pretty awesome...still, Lotus Carlton every time.
