Currently going through a Civilian Fire Academy. Great perspective on the Air Force's Fire Academy. One of my classmates is an Air Guard Fire Protection Specialist.
this is honestly an amazing carer field that you can just grow in. the amount of certs you can acquire with this career field would be awesome for someone who maybe doesn't want a career out of this.
Thanks man and great video! I signed a general aptitude because fire protection was hard to get but this week a position opened up and my recruiter swapped me and booked it for me!
I'm already a firefighter and EMT but I will be shipping out for this job in March. Really not looking forward to doing all that training again but super excited for the job!
Why are you go to the military to train to be a firefighter. When you already are one in the civilian world?? Don’t you get paid a lot more as a civilian firefighter
@wreckless1870 make sure you join for yourself. Like I mentioned above, I joined for a girl I was dating. WAS dating lol. It's one of the best jobs for active duty imo because we don't have to do too much with the squadron nerds lmao. You have to get lucky because some bases don't get much fire. You get to move around and meet great people and as a firefighter, you get to see and do things that civilians could only dream of. Although tough sometimes, I don't regret my choice
Hey man! I love the vids and this is something that I am looking into right now. I was wondering how long is tech school from start to finish in TOTAL days (I know in the video you said the amount of school days, I mean including the weekends and everything else)?
s a k u r a thank you for the reply! I’ve been thinking about joining my states air national guard with this AFSC. Thanks for the response this is very helpful
Ralph Mesidor hey man I got my bmt and tech school dates for fire protection. What’s harder about the schooling ? The book work or the physical training. ?
Great vid thanks for the info. I’m currently a civilian EMT and a volunteer firefighter waiting to ship out to basic in November and was wondering what tech school would be like. I’m surprised you guys aren’t EMTs. Is that something you get later or not at all?
Thanks for watching brother. I bet you can't wait to ship out. So some people come in with EMT certs already but most of us just get to go to a class while at our station. Soon here ill be looking to get my EMT cert for sure!
Ralph Mesidor hey thanks for the reply sorry I just saw this! I’ve done a ton of research and asking around in the last few weeks and I’ve learned a lot and I feel a lot more prepared for both basic and the fire academy. That being said I am curious about the kinds of things people fail the academy for. I know there are written tests but other practical evaluations but I’m wondering what things did most people fail for when you went through tech school? I’ve heard only the people that didn’t really want to be there failed but tbh I’m still a bit nervous. Thanks man!
@@ralphmesidor9361 currently waiting to start class. Any tips I'm hecka nervous there are alot of people here who washed out and are getting reclassed.
Really its the same tbh. I know our job entails a little more physicality so we try to make up for that with various pt programs. Air Force should be switching to a new style of pt or firefighters
Its a real tough one man. As hard as it is to get in the Air Force its even harder on the outside. Maybe tell them you're willing to wait till it comes up? I know how frustrating that can be. Keep your head up bro
Serious question do you have to have any mathematic knowledge being a air force firefighter it’s my weakest subject so that’s what I would like to know
I wouldn't say you have to be a mathematician of any kind haha, but in some of the CDCs and even out on the fire ground it will be handy to know a few equations for pressure loss and knowing your GPMs and flow etc.
Normally its a harder job to get. The rotation just doesn't come by that often. SO you may have to wait a while in DEP. Ask your recruiter and let them know you WANT this job.

Great video . Hard to find info on the tech school in 2018!

Yo! I am currently in tech school!! Wish me luck!
How hard is this job to get? I qualify, just curious how often people sign with the airforce wanting this job and get it.

Good luck dude
What happens after technical training?
Just got this job today shipping out in July. My number one choice
congrats my man. Good to hear you got your number one choice granted that this job is hard to come by. Best of luck to you brother
Kimbril my ship date is July 23rd for fire protection 👍🏻
Harrison Millington dang man maybe we will be in the same class!
Where yall at?
I start EMR tomorrow morning😈
I’m about to swear in within a week or so, I’m eligible for fire protection and it has good availability. Really really hoping I get it 🙏🏻
did you get it?
Nelson Salguero you get it man?
Did you get it??
I did end up getting it, I’m about to hit my two year mark in the Air Force now
Thanks for the information! I leave for bmt Feb 12th.
I hope tech school went by fine for you brother!
@@ralphmesidor9361 currently waiting to start class. Any tips I'm hecka nervous there are alot of people here who washed out and are getting reclassed.
Wow it was way different back 2001
do you graduate with your proboard FF1 & 2
Did you have any knowledge about firefighting before you went to the academy? Like EMT or hazard? Or was it new to you?
That’s what I was wondering too
Can you go home for the weekend, if you live in Texas?
Hey just got done at meps and with this job are you likely to be able to get stationed over seas
Definitely. You can get stationed at every Air Force base. Hit up your dream sheet quick when in tech school
Why is it much quicker in the Air Force? I wanna be a firefighter so bad
How much time do you have to hit the gym on your own time during tech school?
Pretty much busy from 5am to 3 pm. So anytime in the afternoon was your time. Assuming things didn't change
Have you met anyone in the army that switched to the Air Force to get this job?
I personally have not met anyone who did this but I know its possible
How is pt like in the Air Force FireProtection job.
Really its the same tbh. I know our job entails a little more physicality so we try to make up for that with various pt programs. Air Force should be switching to a new style of pt or firefighters
I keep telling my recruiter I want this job but he says that the job never comes up.... it’s really frustrating
Its a real tough one man. As hard as it is to get in the Air Force its even harder on the outside. Maybe tell them you're willing to wait till it comes up? I know how frustrating that can be. Keep your head up bro
Is there a huge gap between men and women in the firefighter career?
Hell yes
Have you heard of anyone being able to skip parts of the academy because they already have certifications?
Have not heard that. Not sure if this is something new
How many to a room?
Hard Tech School, but definitely worth going to
Serious question do you have to have any mathematic knowledge being a air force firefighter it’s my weakest subject so that’s what I would like to know

Hey bro you aloud to lift weights during the week. I'm trying to transition from the army and when I went to ait we couldn't hit the gym
yes you were *allowed* to lift weights/hit the gym at tech school

With ladder training what’s the highest ladder u gotta climb? Lol
How hard it is to get this MOS in the Air Force?
its a little harder to come by but not impossible

What’s the minimum points to get that job
38
Im leaving soon for fire protection is it a hard tech school?
DanielMag29 about a 22% fail out rate. I start tomorrow and from what everyone has been saying yes, it is difficult and rough.
