Randy, Great Stuff brother:D. I was USAF Firedepartment from 2005-2011..did my 6 year contract and got out...did a year as a civilian contract firefighter in Afghanistan..then I went Vegan in 2013. 5 Years Vegan. I'm 32 years old now and I'm in better health now than I was @ my 1st duty assignment @ Kunsan AB, South Korea. Props on the video..great stuff!! Brings back memories. Encourage you to go Vegan..you have many vegan fans!!! ua-cam.com/video/h9iNHSlK--k/v-deo.html
Chico Vegano wow that was an awesome little story you threw on here. Thank you very much for sharing!! Thank you for your service, greatly appreciated!! How’d you enjoy being a contractor? I’ll definitely look into it!!😎🤘🏼
Contract Firefighting is lucrative...the more dangerous the areas are the higher the pay. After I completed my 6 year enlistment..I threw my resume on Indeed and got picked up by a company called "Atco Frontec Europe"...they won a contract to replace a US Army firedepartment @ Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan as the US was withdrawing troops from the area back in 2012. I was hired as a Driver/Operator..and it was a great experience because half of our fire department was prior US Military..a few x Marine firefighters, a few x Airforce Firefighters, and a bunch of x British Royal Airforce Firefighters haha...learned how to make a good cup o tea..and indulge in the Premier League matches in downtime. DoD Fire Certs don't expire which is awesome..lots of Goverment/NATO jobs come available all the time...A few of the guys I worked with @ Moody AFB Fire Department got picked up to be firefighters @ Kennedy Space Center in Florida..$40.00/hour for Drivers. But yeah...to answer your question...contract firefighting is awesome. Good money and lots of excitement.
Chico Vegano this is like gold information. I’ve always wanted to know more about this and you just completely opened my eyes. Seriously means a lot for you to share this with me. Thank you, I’m sure more people will see this and just love the info as well. Sounds like an amazing experience honestly!! That’s an opportunity that I’m willing to give a shot.🙏🏼
This is the first time watching this post. It's now 2024. Was in the Air Force way back in 1977, very proud to have served. Great work.
7:00 is what you came for
Thanks man
Seriously though thanks
this deserve more likes than it has
It’s crazy how I was watching this for advice about AF firefighting and I’m super close to becoming one. I got four weeks left of training then I’m off to Alaska
Trevor Duncan heck yeah brotha. Amazing, wishing you the absolute best of luck. Blessings.🤞🏼🤞🏼
I been researching the area, I hear alot of good things. Your able to go fishing, hunting and camping and it's all free..
Love your video bro im looking forward to do what your doing .have an awesome day 🤙🏻
great video as always Randy, great work.
Thank you!!🤘🏼😊
This was helpful thanks bro keep it up
I just saw this video and saw Pedro on there. Its crazy seeing him on there all grown up. I worked with his dad back in the early 90's as a fire fighter.
Taybay9399 wow really?! That’s insane, what a very small world. I’ll definitely let him know you commented. Thanks for watching.🙏🏼
I enlisted 61 years ago in AF Fire Protection. I am the only NCO to have served as Base Fire Chief in both Vietnam and Thailandi was hard core MF ! during the war !
Lets just say..... I was Hard core MF ! 3 tours in the war !
Bob Remel truly an amazing story!! Thank you for all those years and sacrifices in the service. They don’t go unappreciated one bit. Nothing short of incredible, hope all is well sir.
@@RandyCantu Randy... i enlisted when i was 16 years old. 1957. I am so proud of you and what you have done ! !
?
Great vid bro. One more month here at Goodfellow until I hit the fleet!👨🏽🚒
Got to the first Gulf War at Diego Garcia in 1990. With B-52,s and the US Navy. We Kicked ass !
I just recently found this video and I was actually in the DEP with the marines also and my marine recruiter try to screw me over and I decided to go to the Air Force and my recruiter helped me out a lot! I can wait to swear on
King_Jeremy21 dang VERY similar to me!! Best of luck on your career brotha!!🙏🏼
Simeon Kurosky Yeah. Instagram: BigBoyaf
When i enlisted... i got $78.00 a month , a place to sleep and 3 hot meals a day ! 1957.
Why did you stay for 78 a month? Could of you went someonwhere else and make 25 dollars an hour? 78 dollars a mont today isn't much money. You don't think they may have taken advantage of you and took your money?
@Cesar Cortez I bet now its at minumum wage for AF firefighters? Are you part of the Space X team? As a AF firefighter if so, do you get the chance to fly into space? Is that part of your training?
@Cesar Cortez Are you also part time civilian of the heavy rescue or water rescue teams with the City Fire Departments in your area?
@Cesar Cortez in order to be a AF firefighter are you required to have a masters degree in emergency management? I hear so many things that's why I'm asking. What's your call volume compared to the city fire departments. If you get a structural fire on base does the city Fire take command because of the lack of experience fire calls?
@Cesar Cortez No I don't know the military part. What is the work hrs? Do you guys respond to avalanche emergencies since you are so close to the mountains? Have you ever seen that movie "Infinite Storm" ? You look like a snow guy rescuer.
Hey Randy, been a fan of all your vids and that’s my dream job man. Happy to see the insight. I really want to do this job but the recruiter keeps pushing me for security forces. I’m not interested in that but I really want to become an af ff soooo bad. They said they can’t process me if I don’t choose a job that is in high demand in the Air Force. So I’m just like so I would never get what I want then. What would u do if you were in my shoes? And thanks for the vid again.
How does the whole duty station work? Are you assigned a place? Do you choose where? Are you able to switch? Thanks man!
Do you get all your certs by the time u finish on the job training? Wanted to know can I apply for a position for my civilian job right after I finish boot camp then tech school then the on the job training
Guys!! Thank You for bringing the Career duty of US AIR FORCE FIRE PROTECTION ot the light,,, i joined The Air Force in 1971,, at the age if 19,, and yes i was a Air Force fire fighters,, my first Stations of duty was Offutt Air Force Base,,, i went there from Basic Training. No Tech School,,, but i learned,, and i enjoyed it,, yes i went DDA,, Im sure you know what that means Direct Duty Assignment,,, but the guys said,, for me it meant Dead dum A** lol,,, but i learned and i loved it.. So Thanks for the Memmeries,,,,
so lets say you put fire protection as your #1 on your dream sheet and your recruiter tells you a spot opened up and they offer you it. are they allowed to tell you the base that the spot opened up at?
Chanute for Jet Mech in 1989 then back for Fire Protection in 1992. Went to Goodfellow for rescue school in 1995.
hey, i plan on pursuing this job, but by any chance do you know if it’s a job that will allow you to be stationed in other countries ?
This is my dream job. I’m going to volunteer at a local fire department when I turn 18 hopefully I get an advantage over the people with no experience at all.
Cyqro I am currently a volunteer firefighter and I am hoping for the same
Hell yeah same here
I’m a volunteer doing the same path too.
Hey man I came across your videos today and they've really helped me out! Your job looks awesome. My question is what is your schedule like? I saw in one video one of your friends said that your over seas schedule is great. Stateside though, is it 24-48 or 48-92 like civilian departments or is it something else? Do you still find yourself with time to live a life outside of work?
Never mind I found the video explaining this lol
Could i still enlist if im missing a kidney due to having cancer back in 2017. Im good so far and can still run my mile under 10 min, along with the pushup, pullup, situp requirements. Ive heard from many people stating that its an automatic DSQ, however I went down to my local air force recruiting station, the recruiter wasnt there but a sheet on the door did say each medical condition is taken on a case by case basis. So whats your input on this? Have you met anyone with the same sorta situation?
Do I need an EMT certification to become a firefighter in Air Force?
What was your beginner training like as far as fire training? (To your knowledge) does it differ much from civilian firefighter training?
Did you have to do a physical ability test (Like the CPAT) that differs from Air Force PAT's?
What is your average call volume where you are stationed?
Do you run medical calls as well, or just fire calls?
Love your channel, gives a little bit of a different perspective from my civilian firefighter eyes.
Kensley Buller in my honest opinion it doesn’t differ from civilian fire too much as far as running operations and training. You have mutual aid depending on your base agreement with the city that your base is in. No you don’t have to do a certain physical test for firefighting, you just have to complete the Air Force PT Test. Our average call volume is higher during the week usually ranging from 3-10 calls a day. It’s all base dependent. You run different types of emergencies depending on what your base is assigned to (ex: medical, Structural, Wildland, Hazmat, Rescue, ARFF, etc.)
great questions
So do you maybe do blg inspections and if so do you guys use sophisticated hitech equipment. Because air force is a technical field
So basically just talk to a recruiter n they’ll tell me everything I need to know?
Sign my contract as a fire protection apprentice tomorrow, I’m so happy that I go the job
*got
My questions about Air Force firefighters are 1st. Do Air Force Firefighters wear get issued Dog Tags and is it a rule that you must wear them. 2nd. Do Air Force Firefighters still wear the Air force tiger stripe camo Uniforms, or do they wear the Air Force Multicam uniform. 3rd. Do Air Force Firefighters get issued like Station Apparel like T-shirts, Hats, Hoodies, station patches, station job sweaters, or station quilted jackets. 4th. How long must you be a Air Force firefighter before you can move up in the ranks to say a Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief or Fire Chief
Yo I got a lot questions about joining the Air Force and this job I live in Colorado I’m trying to find out more
So do you have a mutual aid agreement with the local volunteer fire department? If there was a structural fire on your installation who would take command? Volunteers since they have a broad spectrum of training in that department?
Are you allowed to emergency lights reds and blues on your personal vehicle? Do you carry an ems bag in your pov vehicle just in case you were on scene first outside the base
I've seen firefighters who go above the call of duty. I would like to outfit my scion with emergency responder lights and have an ems bag plus additional gear jus in case, you just never know what can happen. Always have to vigilant and keep your head on the swivel.
At your airport, does all the major airlines land there, like southwest, United ect...?
Hi I don’t know if you’ll see this but I hope you do, when should I talk to a recruiter? I would like to join after I finish high school (I’m a sophomore) and I don’t know when I should speak to one. I also want to be fire protection.
I have a question,do firefighters in the military ever see combat
You should definitely try the Blessed one by EHPlabs it’s also a plant based protein, the chocolate coconut is my favorite 😩
alondra romero that flavor actually sounds amazing!! Thank you for the recommendation.🤤
As a air force firefighter could you explain how being stationed works and travel life? Please
Randy Cantu
Do you guys ever use the Fire Trucks or only used for static display? Doesn't look like you guys respond to anything
This is my dream job im 17 and in afjrotc im a jr volunteer fire fighter but idk what all i have to do ik i have to take my asvab this year and go to basic but still confused
Why is it called Fire Protextion when all I see in the videos that there is no fire? I'm confused
CMSgt Bob Remel. Base Fire Chief... Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Korea and Alaska ! 1957-1989.
Can you request what base to be stationed at?
How exciting to be a Air Force Firefighter. Do you guys get any down time? I bet your team gets alot of Structual fires
My moms a recruiter and she’s trying to get to join the Air Force as a fire fighter should i
What was your ASVAB score man
Went to Bosnia in 1998. The only war i was in that the people looked like me !
Like i told my AF Firefighters in Vietnam..... everyone has to be somewhere ! You are here for 365 days !
I made E-8 in 1978. And E-9 in 1983. Retired in 1989.
Do you also volunteer for the city fire department to gain the experience?
A company of Heroes!!
Jus finishes watching a firefighter series on showtime. Im super excites for you guys. You guys do it All, fight fires, respond to ems, heavy rescue, rigging rescue, helicopter rescue, vehicle extrication, bls, als, wild land firefighting, ship board ff, water rescue, stuff like that. How do you do it all, I can't imagine how much skills and constant training to be proficient. Does that protein make you super strong? Do you have more energy? I haven't heard your alarms go off once? Does that mean your call volume is very low. What if you don't get any calls throughout your career how do your department be proficient?
Stays Profiecient? What is a recruiter? What's a asvab and what's meps and Dep program? So I jus need to talk to the recruiter and he or she will give me job? Does this involve military boot camp involved? I'm on board now... all I have to do is get my resume ready and interview for the job. What's security forces? Is that the city police department? Contract for how many years? Bonuses, meaning money or its a college fund?
How many days do you guys work?
Dope vid brother
You forgot to link Paul bro
Brady Nuñez I know my fault thank you for note, got him linked up now!!😏🤙🏼
Ur my HERO s SPECIAL HAPPY THANKSGIVINGS to all of you 82nd ARBN 93-95 You all make AMERICA PROUD
You have no idea how many solutions I got from this video. See, I thought that I was going to be forced to do one of the jobs on my dream sheet that i may not want. Big relief. My recruiter and my liaison seem to leave out some things. My recruiter is a bit notorious of it, but hes awesome. So this may sound stupid, but if I am dead set of being a AF FF, do I get the option of holding off on basic training until my desired job is open? Great Vid btw Randy :D
Zero's Phantom yeah you can wait to go to basic and just say you’ll wait for your job
Notification squad 🤩
Same lol
How’s the schedule like?
Hey Randy, question man, so my recruiter was just pushing me to in other words put security forces, to be 10000% honest I want fire protection like That’s my dream job forreal. And she saying that shh will not process me with medical jobs, what would your opinion be or your suggestion on what should I do?
How’d that end up going
Subscribed 👌
Hello, I’m seriously interested in firefighting, and I’m also concerned about the risk of cancers and such, could you explain to me the likelyhood of actually getting cancer or another sort of illness ? And would constantly decontaminating your equipment and taking showers ect… decrease your chances of getting it significantly? Thankyou!
this is a good question. i also would like to know.
Dream job
Jack Levitow get it bro!!!😎🙏🏼
I’m In the process of talking to the airforce recuiter right now about becoming a fire fighter, my dad and his dad and his dad were all fighter fighters
Potts how did that go ?
hey man sorry if you’ve been asked this before but was thei any fitness test besides the bmt fitness test you had to take to be on the fire team?
you are MORE than likely gonna have to have amazing stamina because being on air and having horrible stamina will not go hand and hand
USAF Crash Fire Fighter 72-76 ! Tanker;P-2,P-4
Do you protect just the tarmac/airstrip or the whole base?
Jonathan Smith whole base
What test scores will give u the best Chance at fire protection?
Doesn't work like that the actual score you need to be fire is very low I believe 35 in general aptitude area on the asvab
Hey Randy I just subscribed to the channel. Awesome content. I’m 21 years old and I’m having a lot of trouble finding a full time firefighter job where I’m from so you think joining the Air Force and becoming a firefighter would help me in the future with job opportunities? Also are you able to get FD apparel from your base cause that would be cool! Thanks and keep up these awesome videos!
Hey man how’s workin with cusato 😂😂😂
hey randy what do you think of security forces? i was thinking of joining either Security forces or fire protection
Ehats the asvab score requirement for fire protection
35 general
I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I really wanna be an Air Force firefighter. Do they enlist female for this job?
This feels like it’s been a whole lifetime ago for me. I was an AF firefighter from 2009-2014.
Did you like it
Are you firefighting in your civilian life.
@@nickcampbell9258overall I did. I learned a lot of things that I still use to this day
@@Mustang6971I’m not. I went on and became a truck driver.
Would becoming USAF Firefighter be a good way to greatly increase the chances of landing a civilian firefighters job?
I'm in Georgia, so how far would I be travelling from home if I enlisted?
Greyds Marin BMT is in san antonio texas, tech school in at goodfellow afb in san angelo. I ship out for this asfc june 4th coming from GA too!!
Yes and no, you will be completing dod fire school which some states won't exsept the certification and you will have to do another academy or test in the civilian state you are applying to but some do accept our credentials just have to look it up and it does allow you to land a dod civilian fire job easier on base.
So I have a question. I would love to become an EMT if I could. I would love even more to become a paramedic. Especially if the USAF will pay for it. I’m currently in law enforcement. If I can become an EMT or get Paramedic certification, that would be really beneficial. In law enforcement I could get additional pay, get into many more swat teams, and it would open many doors for me. I was thinking of going CA Air Guard.
So my question is, as a firefighter in the USAF, do you get EMT certified or paramedic certification? As of right now, I’m under the impression that PJ’s are the only paramedics the Air Force has. Am I wrong? Do they have “regular paramedics”. Regular paramedics that respond to calls around the base with the fire fighters? Are the firefighters paramedics too? If anyone could give me info I’d greatly appreciate it.
Yes on any department they have paramedics who respond to both fire and medical calls hints the name firefighter/medic. Hope this helps
How long to you stay at each station?
Korey Jepson usually a 3 month rotation at Station 2 then they’ll throw you back at Station 1 and have someone else replace you.
How many girls were in your tech school?
I’m currently a Kern county fire department explorers and when I graduate highschool I want to do Fire protection as well. Do you think me being in the explorer program will increase the possibility of me getting this job? And is it a job that a lot of people try to get into?
Where in kern? I live in california city and was wondering how to be a kcfd explorer
Johnathan Dempsey I live in Tehachapi but the explorers is in Bakersfield every Wednesday night from 6-8 and we do events on some weekends
Are you guaranteed to get the firefighting job? I've talked to the navy recruiter already and he said "be more open minded in terms of your mos". My ex is in the navy and said that I shouldn't sign anything until I'm guaranteed the job I want. I want to do fire protection in the air force, so I can transfer to a civilian fire department after my 4-6 years, but I dont want to get through basic and end up getting a desk job. Thanks for your vids! I love you..
I was guaranteed the job before going to basic. I know people who went to basic as "Open General" hoping they can get the job halfway through basic and came out as fire protection. Personally I wouldn't sign anything if it wasn't guaranteed. Best of luck!!
Any update man? Looking to do the same exact thing, talking a recruiter this upcoming week! Fire Protection or nothing lol
@@BryanMariani Yeah, I am going national guard instead. I ended up taking an emt course at my community college. Guard is better for me because they pay for school and I'll have more time to take advanced emt and paramedic courses, which will increase the chances of me getting hired in a civ fire department. In the process of getting med records for meps then going to meps. I'll be going in as services, or hopefully fire protection.
Nuck Chorris I’m going National Guard aswell man, 12M or nothing. The fire certifications you’ll get in AIT will help you massively on the civ side.
@@BryanMariani Yeah it does. They won't have to pay for you to go through the academy. Goodluck man!
Is that kirtland?
Hey bro Im a full time career firefighter for a big city, im in my mid 20's. i have ff1,ff2,hazmat tech, etc. how hard would it be for me to get in? keep in mind i have a family, just testing the waters. lol
I feel like it’d be very very optimal for you to get in brotha!! Talk to a recruiter to see if they open slots available. Let them know you have your certs. They should be willing to work with you since you have so much experience!!
Hope to work with y’all one day!
Viduus hoping your goal comes true one day!!😎
I just finished the fire academy and have all my state fire marshal certs, but finding a job is taking pretty long. Would joining the air force give me a good spot?
Isaac Rodriguez only depends if there’s an actual fire protection slot available when you speak to a recruiter
Randy Cantu if there is would it be worth going into??
What age did u joinc
Battery jaws aren’t that good, Hydraulic jaws are better
Salvador Rojero I like them. They get the job done and are a lot faster on a scene then setting up the hydraulic ones.
Salvador Rojero depends on the manufacturer of the tool and what you are using them for. The halmatro battery tools work very well.
Gregory Schwartz definitely agree!!🙏🏼
My department has Electric and they will cut and spread way more than the hydraulics we had
Both have their own pros and cons
Did you have prior fire service experience before the Air Force
Your A Wizard Harry no sir
That has no effect on you landing the job it's all about what's available in the recruiters listing it's pretty random
Chanute AFB fire academy grad 1983. Travis AFB FD 1983-1986. ;o)
How hard is it to get this slot? I know the Air Force is already competitive and you don’t get to pick your exact job.
Josh Lillard not difficult more so if the job needs people or not. If they don’t then you won’t see an open slot. Depends on what jobs your local recruiter picks up as well.
Randy Cantu Thanks for the reply! Considering joining. Appreciate the insight.
Where are you stationed at?
Hannah Cavasos Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs
How rigorous is the tech school?
i wear glasses would i be disqualified?
Michael G I don’t think so but talk to your recruiter to be sure.
How old are you
so an army recruiter has been talking to me and the way he talks to me makes me think that he thinks that I’m going to join the army but in reality I want to join the airforce should I just tell him that I’m not interested
gL Asvet yeah you should, I was in your position too a year ago and most people I know are in a similar situation with different branches. At the end of the day it’s your decision and they can’t interfere with that. I leave for boot camp October 9th for the Air Force so do what you want, don’t let them sway your choice 🤙🏻🤙🏻
Yeah man I was in your shoes with the marine corps but at the end I made the switch. I wasn’t gonna force something I wasn’t passionate about.
You should cause why waste the time he is putting towards you when he could use it on talking with someone else who is interested in the Army. Don't waste your time or his, especially other branch recruiters', from the first initial contract.
yes man the same for me. Army recruiter has been talking to me and he knows I want to be a firefighter. Little does he knows that I want to be an Air Force Firefighter but he's still trying to get me in the Army. It's hard trying to get with an Air Force recruiter
Lmao I’m in the same predicament. I mean as long as I’m a firefighter idc what branch it is but I’m currently talk to an army recruiter and took the asvab
Do you ever get in trouble for vlogging ? I plan on vlogging my Air Force experience once I enlist.
Slimpify the Plugg I don’t because I asked permission and it depends if your workplace allows it.🤙🏼
Randy Cantu good looks my guy 💯 hopefully wherever I’m stationed at will be cool with it as well.
@@ShaRackzz where are u station what's ur job
Is this the job that has the longest hours of all jobs in the air Force?
T2s ballsack in Rockstars Ass pretty much bro!
@@RandyCantu damn that sucks you should make a video about the hours before recommending it just a suggestion.
T2s ballsack in Rockstars Ass I already have lol
Is there women in the fire protection?
Josie Lewandowski yes plenty all across the DOD
GANG GANG
Jeremy Soto thanks for the love!!😇🤘🏼
The way you’re treating that pool cue is infuriating.
This protein powder is #thicc in all the right places!! Lol
Martin Ramos have you tried it?!🤩
@@RandyCantu no, I was just commenting cause you said it was thick lol
I’m going guard and my own state didn’t have security forces 😂😂
Randy.... Google my ass .... Only half of my time in AF Fire Protection will show up ! 32 years is along time. Over 15 NCO.s made CMSgt that worked for me.
After being i the Vietnam War for 3 years... i liked leading my Firefighters in War ! So... i gave civilians and officers hell !
Anyone ever seen someone with a 4 year old misdemeanor (DUI) get in? Asking for a friend lol
No. Trust me; if your “friend” would’ve gotten the DUI in service they would’ve been dishonorably discharged. Sorry.
