  • On the 8th September 1943, thousands of allied prisoners of war escaped into the Italian countryside following the country's surrender. The occupying Germans hunted these escapers who were helped and sheltered by the brave and kind Italian Contadini, farmers who put their families and homes at great risk by doing so.
Made by a crew of students in Leeds, England with very limited resources and funds, it is based on the director's great-grandfather and his experiences as an escaped British POW in Italy during WWII.
Starring- Luke Goddard, Scott Rutherford, Sam Mancuso, Kerry Danielle-Blacklock, Christian Bloch.
Written and directed by Zak Jarvis.

That Italian Father told those soldiers to head north, while being held by the germans he told them they went south, now thats respect and also a very smart move, took me a lil to realize that lol, he went out of his way to help them, feed them, befriend them, and not ratting them out in the end shows quite a lot, that man was kind enough that he’d want those soldiers to come visit again someday, its a fucking shame that unfortunately wont happen..........

This brought a tear to my eye! My dad fought in north africa he was captured and sent to a POW camp in Italy. He too escaped after the armistice and was taken in by an Italian family and stayed with them until the allies liberated the area. He often said he wanted to go back to Italy and find those who saved him from the Germans, unfortunately he never did and passed away in 2002. I always thought it would make a good film so you can imagine my joy when I came across this! Outstanding work by everyone involved, thank you for making this it deserves to be a full movie

I'm Italian and i live in Italy. Just yesterday me and my grandmother were talking about the time of WW2 in Italy. At that time she was a child, but she remembers very well that her family many times helped italian partisans offering them foods and places in their home where they could rest and sleep.
One day while her family (that are of course mine relatives) were hosting two partisans, nazists came searching for them. Fortunately they succeeded in hiding the two partisans men inside the barn, where they were laying down under a layer of hay on the first floor.
Just imagine what could have happened if nazists would had found what her family were doing... all of them would have been instantly shot for helping "enemies of the nations". I will be always proud of my relatives, that risked their life to save people that were fighting from the inside in order to rebel and go against the Nazi-fascist oppressive regime, carrying the unceasing hope of a free Italy.

The highlight of this short film was the grace, warmth and expectant passion between Ernesto and Alexandra as they said their final farewells. You sensed how Alexandra was a good, loyal, homely farmer's daughter who had a life ahead of her as a wonderful mother. This illusion, however, was soon to be shattered by the arrival of a German Hauptman and two soldiers hunting for 2 escaped British soldiers. Ernesto and Marco had forgotten to hide their uniforms, which were discovered, and led to the cold, summary executions of the very kind farmer and his dearly beloved daughter, Alexandra.

What I love about your offering is that it is both personal and relevant. It deals with real people. My grandfather was a WWII veteran. He was an intelligent and sensitive person. He would have loved your film and found the "rockyisation" of an event which cost millions of lives distasteful to the extreme. Wars are not a game. They actually destroy people. You were on a budget, granted. But you were good, accurate and real. Please ignore the negativity (e.g. "The uniforms should have been hidden"). That is precisely what makes the richness of your film. You were aware that you were dealing with people who were not born soldiers and were just trying to help. One of my great great uncle’s Had lived in the Netherlands in 1940 when the Germans invaded. Soldiers of the Wehrmacht had raided and burned his house outside the Rotterdam area. After this, He managed to escape to France, which was a big mistake he made when France surrendered in June 1940. With no other choice to make, he joined the French resistance until 1944, raiding checkpoints, helping escaped prisoners and relaying intelligence to the Allies in Britain. He even helped the Marquis and the U.S. Army in liberating Paris. Then with the aid of the allies, he secretly headed back to the Netherlands and then joined up with the Dutch resistance in destroying key German positions in Rotterdam and Nijmegen. He fought until the liberation in 1945 and then came to the United States in the 1950’s he was an extraordinary man who helped a ton of prisoners escape and even helped the Allied war effort in France. Unfortunately, he died in 1998 two years before I was born. I’ve only seen pictures of him, and yet I salute him!!

    Great job guys!
The italian accent of the "contadini" is funny for me (I'm italian) but the italian phrases are perfect!
If you come in Italy, don't miss the Casa della Resistenza in Verbania, near Italian-Swiss border: many Allied soldiers passed in Switzerland helped by civilians and antifascists partisans

He is obviously from Tuscany/Toscana, but the girl is not an Italian actress! She has a foreign accent.
