- The Allied invasion is just one day old and Manning and his comrades of the 101st Airborne Division are trying to find their deployment site. Meanwhile, young soldier Paul and his comrade Manfred are in the rear of the invasion front, searching for their unit. Both Paul and Manning are struggling with their situation. Each has his own reason for wanting to come back home.
This time we have ventured back to the Western Front and we highlight both the American and German sides. One main character is in the Wehrmacht and the other is with the American Airborne. Enjoy our latest WW2 short film.

Ladies and gents, I have discovered the name of the American soldier who inspired this short film.
The American soldier's name is Jack Leroy Tueller. He took his trumpet with him to Europe during the war and was one of the Americans to land in Normandy, France, on 6 Jun 1944.
One night, he was feeling stressed and decided to play his trumpet to relieve his stress. His commander warned him against it as there was a German sniper nearby, but Jack insisted on playing his trumpet as he thought that the German soldier was scared just like he was.
So Jack played 'Lili Marleen' on his trumpet and surprisingly, nothing happened to him.
The next morning, a jeep with German soldiers arrived to surrender. One of the soldiers asked, in broken English, who was playing 'Lili Marleen' the night before.
Jack said that he was the one who played 'Lili Marleen' and the German soldier, who was only 19, broke into tears and said that when he heard the song, he immediately thought about his girlfriend and his family, and was unable to bring himself to shoot the Americans.
He reached out his hand towards Jack and both men shaked their hands. Jack said that he felt no hatred towards the German soldier at all, he was right, after all, about believing that even an enemy soldier would feel about the war the same way as he did: Longing to survive the war and return home to be reunited with family and friends.
Music has the power to unite enemies together and bring out the best in people during the worst of times.

@@silasmerzenich I just happened to read about this incident in the comments section of a recording of the song on UA-cam. I decided to Google the US soldier's name to learn more, and then I realised that this short film was inspired by this real life incident.

My best friend's grandfather fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He was in a shell crater crawling up its wall, and apparently a German soldier was doing the same in an adjoining crater. They met eye to eye at the crest, much to their surprise. The German asked, "Are you scared?" The grandfather nodded. The German replied, "me too." They both turned around and crawled in opposite directions.

His smile. His grasp on me. His Korean words to me as I held him tight.
My life forever changed. War sucks.
I served in the Cold War. I have a very special friend of mine 90 years old, who was in Korea. When we first met I asked him how he made staff sgt. So quickly. He said I was blown up in a tank. When The smoke cleared, his tank commander was laying beside him without a head. He’s old, bent over somewhat, and feeble. Every time I see him I think about how much more of a man he is than I will ever be. He still has shrapnel in his body.

My grandpa was a medic in Vietnam. He died in 2015 when I was 11 in 19 now and I regret every day not asking him questions about the war

57,000 ROK soldiers died in Vietnam alongside US troops. Thank you for sharing your moving story. My father who was in Korean War and Vietnam, told me that in combat he could see the mark of death on soldiers face just before he died. Years later I saw a Twilight Zone rerun episode written by Rod Serling in which a young infantry lieutenant can see the mark of death on soldiers face before they died and just as he was being sent back to the Stateside, he sees that mark of death on his own face.
I love that you guys are able to do more character development in 20 minutes than all of Hollywood can do in 120. And unlike Hollywood you guys do your absolute best to get things accurate. Hell my only complaint with this whole film is that some of the actors playing the US Para’s have a slight Germanic accent and even that could be brushed off as historic. Thank you guys so much!
They were soldiers from North Dakota towns like Strasburg. Some of the farmers have German accents to this day. Dead on accurate. ya,
Snipers never take cover under a landmark.
And snipers were never taken prisoner.
And the fact that the PFC keeps on calling all the NCO’s “sir” but they covered the accents pretty well by giving the strongest English speakers the most lines and with some colloquialism that makes a foreign speaker sound more natural.

Short films like these show more depth and emotion than most big budget Hollywood films. Kudos guys, keep up the good work!

Einer meiner Opas hat etwas vom Krieg erzählt. Der andere war von der Ostfront traumatisiert, und hat nie etwas gesagt. Ich kannte sie nur als ältere Herren, aber ihr schenkt einen Eindruck wie es ihnen und auch den Großmüttern in der Jugend gegangen ist. Danke.

I am an American. My father fought in the US Navy in the Philipines in WW2. I served during the Cold War from 1971 to 1997 in the US Air Force. My son served in the US Army and completed two tours in Iraq. My youngest daughter serves our Veterans in the VA. I was moved by this authentic depiction of young men at war.
Nothing honorable about young nazis, and what they stood for.

During the war and one time had to guard German prisoners. He knew enough of the language to talk to some of them. They all said they were sick of war and just wanted to go home. Uncle survived the war without a scratch only to come home but tortured by survivor guilt. He would drink himself into a early grave and died at only 54.
I was in the first grade when he died but remembered him well.
He never married. I still tend to his grave.

You guys are so great at telling stories about ordinary people who happened to be soldiers during the war, without it becoming Hollywood-style cliché. In your movies, showing a picture of your loved one to the soldier next to you doesn't automatically mean you're going to get shot in the next scene.
You guys show that you don't need tanks and cities in rubble to give people of the present day an impression of what young people during the war went through

Фильм правдивый так же, как и история в памятнике, что в Трептовом парке Берлина заложенная о спасении немецкой девушки советским солдатом.
Не следует на этом играть, поскольку за этими историями людские жизни и судьбы.

It's a great song that meant a lot to fighting men on all sides in Europe. Remember the scene from the Fassbinder movie of the same name? When Lili (played by the fabulous Hanna Schygulla) steps up to the stage in Berlin to sing, all the fighting stopped. Everywhere. For the next few minutes, all soldiers paused to think of their wives and girlfriends far far away. Lili finishes her song, and the killing instantly resumes.

My Uncle Claude started his time at bat against the German Army in Algeria November 1942. When the Great World of 2 ended he was up at the Brenner Pass. He fought all through Sicily and all the way through Italy and ended up in Austria . October 1945 he came home to his town in Virginia with Parkinsons disease at age 22.

Было бы интересно посмотреть на их короткий фильм про Бабий Яр например. Или про то что случилось с советскими военнопленными в 41м году. Или про целиком уничтоженные деревни вместе с жителями. Я могу такой список длинный написать. А то глядя их фильмы, нацисты просто няшки, улыбаются и спрашивают как дела?
@@user-bo8ps5fg9s я заметил , кстати , что в их фильмах про стычки с советскими солдатами нам показывают исключительно немецкие личности с их мыслями , воспоминаниями о семье , переживаниями и тд. А советские солдаты ......это просто враги , обезличенная масса , которая , к тому же туповато , бестолково воюет и попадает по немцам лишь случайно или во время обстрелов.
А американские солдаты всегда представлены более благородно и человечно , что и семьи у них и дети и все такое. Разговоры друг с другом. Мол ....все люди и американцы и немцы. Да и воюют американцы в этих фильмах на порядок слаженнее и профессиональнее.
К чему я это ? Предвзятые фильмы с явным продуманным перекосом в сторону германской армии и нации в целом. Типа , все они там подневольно и умирать не хотят. Но воюют профессионально и умело , даже в невыгодных условиях. Про сжигание деревень вместе с жителями , мы тут никогда не увидим. Этого как-бы и не было вовсе.

Jungs, ihr setzt Maßstäbe ‼️
der trompetenspieler ist sicherlich muttersprachler und das englisch der anderen kommt uns in erster linie deshalb authentisch vor, weil wir als deutsche den akzent nicht so stark wahrnehmen. der ist nämlich schon ganz schön dick, wenn man mal genau hinhört =D aber mühe gegeben haben sie sich! die mussten einige szenen sicher x mal aufnehmen, damit es halbwegs locker rauskommt^^
@@nicodemusbrausebier5378 Als Ami kann ich bestätigen, dass die meisten offensichtlich keine Muttersprachler sind. Beim Trompetenspieler vermute ich, dass er vielleicht bilingual in Deutschland aufgewachsen ist.
Wow, ich hatte mehrfach Gänsehautmomente beim ansehen! Geballte Emotion bei so kurzer Laufzeit. Ich finde es toll, mit welcher Hingabe und wie detailgetreu und professionell ihr mit dem Thema WW2 umgeht. Super!

The best channel when it comes to producing stories about ww2 from both sides in a classy manner. 10/10.
Richtig klasse. Sowohl vom Schauspiel als auch von der Technik. Bin schwer beeindruckt. Am Ende hatte der deutsche Soldat zwar noch das Scharfschützengewehr seines Kameraden, aber er war anscheinend müde vom Krieg.
Wie immer eine Glanzleistung! Eine berührende Geschichte, sagenhafte Schauspieler und wunderbare Kameraeinstellung. Alles in allem, ein Kurzfilm einer Truppe, bei der man sich nicht vorstellen kann, was für ein Meisterwerk sie noch herzaubern könnten! Diese 21:31 Minuten haben es verdient, gesehen zu werden. Irgendwann hoffe ich es, dass ihr es schafft, einen Kinohit zu produzieren, bzw. ich hoffe es nicht nur, sondern ich glaube es auch! Und ja, ich weiß, ich wiederhole das, was schon in den anderen Kommentaren steht, nämlich das Daniel, Marco, Tristan und alle anderen Darsteller sowie das gesamte Team im Hintergrund etwas erschaffen haben, wo sich viele andere noch mehrere Scheiben abschneiden können! Kurz gesagt, Hut ab vor dieser Produktion, sie ist um Weiten besser als ich sie mir vorgestellt habe. Macht weiter so!

German uniforms were very impractical when fighting the Soviets. Their boots had hobnails in the soles which conducted the bitter cold which froze many Germans in sub-zero conditions. It was the same with their steel helmets which froze their brains. From head to toe, the poor conscripts shivered. They would gladly have swapped their lighter uniforms which could not keep them warm for the Soviet vatnik (ватник), a Russian cotton wool-padded jacket which trapped body heat. Instead of the German jackboots which allowed frostbite, the Soviets wore valenki (ва́ленки) which were winter felt boots and to prevent heat loss through the head the Soviets would prefer their ushanka (уша́нка) which is a Russian fur cap with ear-flaps. Take your pick.
Some fashion industry today like Boss designed Nazi uniforms for looks but not for practicality.

Der beste Kurzfilm zum Thema WW2 den ich persönlich bis dato gesehen habe und dann findet auch noch mein absolutes "Lieblingsgewehr" des 2. Weltkriegs, nämlich das G43/K43 (Gewehr 43/Karabiner 43), darin verwendung. Einfach grandios!

A magnificent short...authentic, moving, and as an ex medic and then Drill Sergeant in the Air Force and Army...having seen first hand the trauma of war, I commend the producers of this small film. I was deeply touched, for I too have seen things like this coming out of war. The German soldiers weren't animals or sadists. They had some bad ones in their midst, but anyone who knows anything about history knows we are NOT ones to be pointing fingers. War is hell, hell for both sides, and ultimately, the fighting men and women of both sides just wanted what he did...JUST TO GO HOME.
Thank you for sharing this! I am constantly sharing with people what I have learned from studying World War II especially the Third Reich. First I had to understand what made this come into existence, what was going on in the German country, and I found many important reasons. Many things that are going on here in our own country now. In our American culture through our schooling and through the media they have Not shown any empathy for the German side At All! 😡 Not only for the soldiers and their families but for the innocent civilians as well. The pain they suffered before, during and after the war is Horrendous and it's Not talked about! 😡🤯😰 💔 I am not here to blame anyone, nor shame anyone, nor disrespect any soldiers or civilians on any side. I simply want to Learn The Truth Without Propaganda! I hope we can all look at all sides so that we can all move on and hopefully we can all attain Peace & Love on Earth once and for all with respect and care for one another! ❤️🙏
@@wingedlyon Living in Austria, my great grandfathers were called into the Wehrmacht back then. It indeed was a terrible time, where a part of the population hated an other part of the same population, and those who didn't were shunned and treated as traitor with dire consequences. Of course this doesn't and will never excuse the atrocities that were commited (willingly or not).
One of my great grandfathers denied joining the Wehrmacht and was hanged for treason. The other great grandfather was lost in Stalingrad, and one fell during a battle at the Italian front.
The Wehrmacht was made of all sorts of people, mostly though of ordinary people, conscripts and professional soldiers. Whatever they might have believed in that the war was justified turned into tiredness. Tiredness of killing, tiredness of loss, tiredness of fear, tiredness of waiting, tiredness of surviving, tiredness of pain, exhaustion, starvation, illness and sadness. They all wanted it to end, they all wanted to go home. And often, when they tried to stop it, they were branded as traitors by commanding officers or zealous comrades that reported them, ending up executed. Most of them weren't Nazis.
Same with the civilians, whereas the population believed in the justification and propaganda for this war, they grew tired as well, tired of the losses, the sadness, the fear, tiredness of a regime that forced people to spy on each other, to report any behavior that was agains the regime's policy. It is a sad, dark and terrible chapter of humankind and especially central europe, but it is sad as well that everywhere on this world it is taught and shown, how bad, evil and inhuman the Wehrmacht was, while the were as well, only human, suffering like the Allied Forces, maybe even more so, knowing that what they fought for was wrong, and showing any remorse or resistance could mean death. They were basically trapped between dying by illness, accidents or enemy forces, and being executed for insubordination.
Games like Medal of Honor and Call of Duty, Company of Heroes and so on, they are great games, but they only show the heroism and suffering of the Allied Forces, glorifying them while showing off the Wehrmacht as heartless robots. Same for many movies back then.

Toller Film, mit klarer Botschaft: Es gibt keine Gewinner in einem Krieg und die Menschlichkeit droht mit jedem weiteren Tag mehr auf der Strecke zu bleiben.
Ich verstehe echt nicht, dass Netflix oder Co. auf Euch noch nicht aufmerksam geworden sind.
Das sollte unbedingt einem breiteren Publikum präsentiert werden.
This film is POWERFUL i love it. I cried a lot becasue of the feeling of each soldier. This is how you make a real WW2 film, human and no just action with some shooting like hollywood ones.... Here we saw both sides. NO GOODIES, NO BADDIES.

Ich muss einfach mal wieder sagen ihr seid Hammer, ich verfolge euch schon, seit ihr ca. 5-10 Tsd. Abonnenten habt und muss einfach feststellen, dass ihr von Anfang an schon super gute Filme gemacht habt und ihr einfach immer besser werdet. Es ist nicht selbstverständlich, dass ihr diese Filme die besser als jeder Hollywoodfilm sind kostenlos für jeden zur Verfügung stellt. Dafür wollte ich einfach mal Danke sagen, und kann euch nur von ganzem Herzen wünschen, dass eure Filme noch mehr Aufmerksamkeit und Reichweite bekommen. Irgendwann schafft ihr es in die Filmwelt und spielt ganz oben mit da bin ich mir sicher. Ihr schafft es in einem Film von 20 Minuten mehr Emotionen aufzubauen als viele Oscarpreisträger und verlangt dafür nichts, ihr schaltet nicht mal Werbung !!! Vielen vielen Dank dafür, ich freue mich schon auf eure nächsten Meisterwerke

Greetings from the US. You guys have always done outstanding work... I do remember watching an interview with an American veteran, who told a similar account... He was stationed near an airfield near the front, and had German sniper in the area. He mentioned playing the song Lili Marleen during his night watch, and the following day the German sniper actually surrendered to them...

The nastiness of war what ordinary men had to do and endure was horrendous. Lest we forget what evil made ordinary men commit. I am French but my Grandfather was in the Austrian Luftwaffe, and my other grand Dad was Czech and fight just a bit against the Germans when they came to Prague ! So this short movie reminds me that this could have been my 2 grand fathers meeting each other in the war field! Fortunately they met when I was young in the 70s and things went well thankfully 😅 ! War is a sad achievement
