    Loving how James and his work shop keep popping up in different people’s UA-cam channels, e.g. BVG.

      Yeah, given that FB has been working with him for, wowza, around 14 years now (feel old all of a sudden!), and Fags worked for FB for years, and we're mostly all 'local' to each other anyway (and that James is just great), it's no surprise really! Insert League of gentlemen 'local' jokes as and when appropriate or as you see fit! ;-)

    Just picked up MY 19 and god damn is this thing a beast. I own a Tuono V4 1100 and to compare I’d have o say this blistering fast from mid range all the way to top end with knife like handling.

    Very good piece. Truly gutsy riding on that track given the conditions. If I purchased I'd be going for the base model with standard suspension, as it's much cheaper. Have you had a chance to ride a base model or have an opinion on the base? Thanks.

    • @fastbikes
      @fastbikes 6 років тому

      Honestly, I was riding like a bit of a fanny, too worried about dropping it, even if the leckies would have taken care of me, as if a tyre properly loses purchase no electronics can help at all and there were waaaay too many small patches of ice to get even mildly giddy - wanted to though! I guarantee the stocker will be ace, we'll have one on fleet this year I hope, I ran a non-electronic suzzie 1199 for two years and it was mega.

    Nice one BJ. I am however one of the test riders who wasn’t blown away by it. It’s good but it almost didn’t feel finished to me. It didn’t make me want to empty my bank account like the 1299 did. It’s very very good though.
    I’m looking forward to the next generation v4, I think that’ll be the one to have! (Usually is with Ducati)

    • @fastbikes
      @fastbikes 6 років тому

      Interesting! The lack of character at slow speeds is a shame, but when rinsing it, it's wonderful I think - though a totally different experience from the L-twin, granted.

    • @findingneutral426
      @findingneutral426 6 років тому

      Fast Bikes Magazine yeah it’s totally different and totally brilliant in ways. But I’m not sure I liked it. It didn’t set my heart on fire like the L2’s do/did. And to me it didn’t actually feel as quick. I think it’s because the power is much more linear? Didn’t get on with the quick shifter either to be fair. Found it a bit ‘laggy’ almost

    • @findingneutral426
      @findingneutral426 6 років тому

      Fast Bikes Magazine also just to add that I believe the v4 has one of the most confidence inspiring chassis I’ve ever ridden. It really is something else.

    • @fastbikes
      @fastbikes 6 років тому

      Possibly, in race mode with the gasser wide open it's like nothing I've tried before production-wise, part throttle acceleration is also nuts mostly because you look down and gawp at how fast you're going, about double what you expected, without even noticing! But to get your gander up, it needs to be hammered - that being said, an open exhaust could make a world of difference, you can tell just from the airbox noises it'll be epic.

    • @findingneutral426
      @findingneutral426 6 років тому

      Fast Bikes Magazine goes to show how different people feel different things. I’ve had the thing pinned in all gears in race up to 4th and to me it didn’t feel like like what I was expecting. But as you say when you look down it’s deceptive and you’re often going much faster than you think.

    • @fastbikes
      @fastbikes 6 років тому

      Was just above freezing that day, so the ice patches were melting, the cars on a track day there had to wait a while before going out and we snuck out just after midday.

    • @michaelpowell4823
      @michaelpowell4823 6 років тому

      Thanks for the reply. There is always a debate here (Minnesota USA) between riders of when is it get too cold to ride. As in at what the lowest temp is to get good traction from the tires since it is difficult to warm them up and keep them warm.

    • @fastbikes
      @fastbikes 6 років тому

      It's a fair debate to have especially if you get those conditions a lot. That being said, was snow everywhere the last time I rode the V4 before it went back, not scary at all!

    Exact! Which comes to the point that its cost should not be much of an issue I explain. For example for that money people buy compact cars or second cars! Or their dream used M beemer. This bike will give much more fun and enjoyment than any car on that price range, so if one can afford. Why the H. Not? :) only if economy is an issue of course.

    So the chip wrapper got one on BSD's dyno, which im led to believe is quite accurate, and it made 198, and the dyno operator didnt have the tank/seat unit off, well not from what i can see in the vid, someone please explain, preferably bj or someone that knows what they are talking about

    • @fastbikes
      @fastbikes 6 років тому +1

      According to James, this is the quickest and easiest way of doing it. There is another way of doing it but you wouldn't believe how much work it is following the steps to the letter. As for the BSD dyno, it's always read higher than the JHS one, but neither are 'wrong' in their readings, given the weirdness with dynos in general. Like us, they use that one and that one only, as we do with JHS. It's just happy coincidence that when you minus the loss twixt crank and wheel, the JHS wheel numbers always seem to marry up near bang on with manufacturer crank claims.

    I cant wait to get my Speciale and a tune for it..May cant come soon enough. From what I have seen the 5th and 6th gear dyno pulls are stronger and turn more rpm that 4th gear maps . I'm sure the tuners will be utilizing this info for the base to setup the maps for all the gears.. i see at the top end the 6h gear pull trails the 4th gear pull which I'm thinking it becomes rich from the factory tune adding fuel to compensate from the incoming air at speed. With a tune its going to really transform the bike since she is in a state of Euro 4 tune form the dealer

    • @paulklees9871
      @paulklees9871 6 років тому

      Kawicepticon if you take a Specialle theare is everything what you need from the Factory Exaust and up to 226 on the Crank.And everything with Warenty of the Factory it is necessary to doing more?226 on Crank and more lighter as the v4 S this is sick for the Street Man😂😂😂🤘🤘🤘

    Ducati should have waited and put the V4 in the multistrada instead of the 1260 twin imo..hopefully this will transfer to bikes like the monster as well!

    • @joeldb8828
      @joeldb8828 6 років тому +1

      I initially thought the same thing... but there's just something full of character in the original (non-DVT) 1198 L-twin... In my opinion, I think it's the perfect engine for that segment. Although, the competition does keep getting stiffer in the adventure/sport market, so a higher-revving engine could help them there strictly from a marketing standpoint. All that said, I'll never trade my classic MTS (2010, full Termi)!!!

    • @joeldb8828
      @joeldb8828 6 років тому +1

      But to your comment, I do think rather than go to 1260, a V4 would have been superb!!

    • @yardblah5161
      @yardblah5161 6 років тому

      Joel DB I spoke to my local Ducati salesman and he flat out told me "you won't feel the difference in the cc increase! It just offsets the euro 4 restrictions" Very disappointing if that's true. Plus a V4 puts the multi in lane of its own entirely..a V4 adventure sport with 160ish bhp and everyday usability??..I'm drooling at the prospect!

    • @joeldb8828
      @joeldb8828 6 років тому

      That is a shame!! My brother has a 2015 DVT model and compared to my 2010 it really feels more cumbersome with the slight weight gain, so the 1260 increase in weight really would feel sluggish, compared to my 1198 (assume). We can all dream a little I suppose... I sure would love to see them update the model with a V4 if only so the S1000XR can eat the Duc's rubber!

    Didn‘t have the 1299 Panigale FE a similar power output? 186 as far as I remember. So not too much of a difference. Torque was better anyway on the FE.
    I was expecting a bigger gap. Especially, when you consider the Panigale R also delivered 186 bhp.

    • @paulklees9871
      @paulklees9871 6 років тому

      Porsche 996 GT2-Widowmaker thats are bouth diffrent Bikes i driving a 1299 the Bike is not so easy on the trottle and has a Mount if Power in lover RPM but but not that rpm Range like the v4.Thats make the 1299 more tricky too ride and you need Time to riding fast a has donne 30000km on main and for me feels today better than anythinhmg else.But main old s1000RR are on the furst ride easy to rid.Insanne Power wich has a large rpm Range.The 1299 feels for the first Time to much and not that easy.Now i Love this Bike.But the v4 is way of more easyer to ride more Power and faster.I just stay on my 1299😎

    • @fastbikes
      @fastbikes 6 років тому

      It did have similar peak power, but the graphs are wildly different due to the gulf in revs between the pair. The V4 spins up so damn quick it makes up for the lost torque over the L-twin somewhat.

      @PorscheGT-Widowmaker 6 років тому +1

I haven't been riding for two years after a big crash. I am considering 959 corse and normal version of v4. Which one do you think is more safer for me to get back to rider's life? I have noticed v4 comes with lots of electronic supports at the same time 959 corse is a mid-weight frame with a big engine. I haven't got chance to test ride them.

      Tobi Ogunsanwo its not that easy to put more power on the top end only with 100 ccm how many thinks.if sombody think if Aprilia takes the 1100ccm and can overtake his 1000ccm goes wrong,maybe a litle more Power but not that much as sombody thinking.More ccm means less rpm,specially for the durabuillty of the Motor.Ducati has one Advantage they use the same Valve System like in GP Desmodromic this system can easily make more than 18000 rpm all other Competitor have to use Pneumatic Valve wich is in Serialbike imcompatible,Ducati can make easily 14500 rpm wich is insanne for a 1103 Engine a RSV 4 1000ccm if i was not wrong 14700rpm,with this rpm you can not run a 1100ccm on this base.The problem are the Resonance in the Spring (feather)of Bikes with 1000ccm and higher wich can make the Efect that the valve Spring destroy his self.

    It's getting kind of ridiculous having 200 hp going to the little rubber contact patch of the rear tire of a motorcycle. IMO naked sport bikes are much better suited for the street and more comfortable to boot. Btw has anyone considered how expensive the damage will be if one slides a top-dollar Ducati on the racetrack or the crappy public road surfaces? Will one need to take out a second mortgage to pay for the first major service on this bike? Are motorcycles becoming over-engineered grossly violating the KISS (keep it simple stupid) rule? More complication is more to go wrong. I have a hard time keeping my driver's license on my little Triumph 675 STR with 100 rwhp.

    • @paulklees9871
      @paulklees9871 6 років тому

      gwwayner major Service the only major service is the Desmo but standart Services cost me like my zx10r only the difftence with the Kawa you have to go each 6000km wuth the panogale 1299 each 12000km and the v4 each 15000km.This is not true with the Servicrs i know that a normal Service dont cost more as other Bikes that for shure.

      Different dynos, etc etc, pointless comparing results from one to the other, the differences between bikes on one single dyno is the key, and why we only use the JHS one.

    Just for reference as you mentioned them, my H2 made 211whp when it was 100% stock. Now 270whp it’s been flashed and exhaust.

      On the JHS dyno the most powerful Euro3 BMW S 1000 RR we ever tested made 188bhp (which was 6bhp more than we'd had out of any other Euro3 version, it was a really good one!), the Euro4 version makes 178bhp - All dynos read differently anyway (never mind being able to change the form of measurement etc), but think about it for a second - BMW claim around 200bhp at the crank - so how can it possibly make 200 at the rear wheel on a dyno when there's always a minimum of 10-12% loss figure reduction from crank to tyre? And it can be even more (up to 15%) depending on conditions. As for here, just minus the average loss of 12% off Ducati's claimed figure of 214bhp at the crank for the V4 and you get... drum roll... 188.32bhp. Ours made a tiny fraction less but we've seen others on the same dyno hit 188 on the nose. This is why we like this dyno!

      JamieP London no one s1000 RR can make 200 on the wheel not eaven with full exaust and ECU flash but any way the s1000RR has a fucking Powerfull Engine i know that because i owned a s1000 RR for 6 Months but after i have to fix the bearing shell a sold the Bike maybe i was a litle bit unhappy with my 2012 s1000RR i normal this Engine dont have that much Problem.The zx10 R wich i using on the Track still running withot any probs.The Panigale 1299 has allrady 30000km most of that on bigger Tours so far everything ok .Only that fucking Desmoservice is expensive but normal Services dont cost more than a Kawasaki only that the Kawa has to go all 6000km to Service and the pani all 12000km.The v4s is a good Bike but i keep the 1299 because it still running.Maybe i will Change the Kawas for a R1 M Man what a good Bike for the Track😎

      Fast Bikes Magazine manufacturers hp claims can be took with a pinch of salt for the most I find, last year I had a 2017 ZZR1400 for a short while. It made 203rwhp stock on PDQ dyno. And 214whp with just a decat headers. Maybe JHS dyno reads a little low compared to others. I’ve got mates with S1000rr that have made low 200whp with exhaust change granted, that’s not just on one dyno. Other local dynos also.
      I was just expecting more from the Ducati.

      It's a fair comment, but then you tend to respect big horse power on the road - more likely to go to jail on something with a lot less as you end up rinsing it everywhere! Pros and cons to both, as usual!

    English roads would be great if only the English rode/and/drove on the right (pun intended) side of the road.
    As for the motorcycle I don't like it at all, then again I do not like anything with those stupid cheap ass looking digital LCD screen thingies, they do not belong on either a motorcycle or car. Must be analog gauges with needles...also this is Italian and we all know what that means in terms of quality and price on spare parts. I rather buy an English or Japanese bike. Really wish Triumph would have had a Daytona 750.

    Come on, man even if it was 10hp and 10lf-ft of torque below the base 1299 it still wouldn't be slow, how can you be surprised by this. It's still going to be faster than the 959. You blew all of your credibility with that one statement.

      touristguy87 i think your comment is compleattly wrong you compair the 1299 wit this Bike🤔theare complete diffrent Engine.On the other Side over 200 BHP is the Air thin and a lot of increase of Power not that easy.Please dont compare aple with pear,i have the 1299 and last week a try the v4 i can say that you are wrong.

    • @fastbikes
      @fastbikes 6 років тому

      The comparison with the 959 was with ease of use at slow riding pace, not sheer speed. It's the way the engine spins that surprises on full throttle, like nothing I've tried before, even the RSV4.

    • @touristguy87
      @touristguy87 6 років тому

      um, in between your use of the word "wrong" you made no sense and referred to only One fact. Both bikes make 200hp at the crank.
      The only real difference between those two bikes is that the v4 is tuned to be a "kinder & gentler" 1299 (at a 25% price-premium), a "mainstream" 1199 (at a 50% price-premium), a Ducati counterargument to the whole "noobs need to start on a Ninja 300" crowd.
      You seriously think that a Ducati Panigale owner now needs to upgrade to a $35k Panigale sportbike to be respected...that is the entire goal of the V4. Meanwhile I can buy a 4 year old S1000RR, R1S, Gixxer or 10R that has almost as much power and is for practically all intents and purposes just as good as the V4. The R1S, Gixxer and 10R will cost no more than half as much, even the premium RR is only 2/3rds the price. And that is ignoring the fact that I don't need a bike with 200hp at the crank. Especially a $35k 200hp bike that looks like their own Supersport that costs half as much and has 2/3rds of the power. That bike requires the purchasers' brain to be set either to "idiot" or "the wheels on this bike will never go through more than 100 revolutions" and literally I expect a 3rd of those bikes to be totaled within a year with half of them stored in climate-controlled safes as long-term investments.
      With the release of the V4, probably every Panigale ever made increased 25% in value.
