@@debastiansebeste Exactly. Say one thing or give out one information, and the fandom just roll with it infinitely with their own perspective. That's why it sounds wrong, in a way.
I always thought that this is a situation of poor translation since it's a japanese thing. In Japan, when a couple marries they start to call her father and mother-in-law "father" and "mother".
Even if Larry later says that Bikini reminds her of her own mother, the fact that he says to Phoenix during the first day that she's her mother is because Bikini is de facto like a mother to Iris (Iris confirms this during the third day) and knowing that Larry likes Iris, he's five steps ahead, looking Bikini as his future mother-in-law.
The family tree does not look like a tree but more like a bush when you decided to draw it out.

I mean, she's Phoenix's adoptive daughter, Zak and Thalassa's daughter, Apollo's sister, she's related to half the people in that room and it would be even more if I had rolled with my initial plan to have Thalassa be in this vid too xD

I think he mentioned having a mom in reunion and turnabout, and in the anime (at least in the dub, also reunion and turnabout) when Lotta asked if he's gotten bigger since she last saw him, he muttered "Please, you sound like my aunt."
HAHHA this was an amazing start to the day! I love the part where Athena and Apollo look at each other like "..." and Phoenix is like "Damnit, shouldn't have hired an office full of lie detectors" (though, Trucy would've been able to detect something as well, no?) 😭
Trucy is said to have been able to sense some stuff but not as easily as Apollo, mostly because she doesn't have one of Thalassa's bracelets. Apollo uses the bracelet to immediately feel the hint when someone is lying, so I imagine for Trucy it would be a bit harder or something
Ahh, I get it! I personally see Apollo's ability as precise, while Trucy's is overall - she can tell when someone is acting off, but she can't tell when there's a tic / what EXACTLY is off like Apollo can.
So I imagine Phoenix's general demeanour might've set Trucy's "my daddy's lying again" radar off, even in the slightest. Though of course, I agree with you, Apollo and Athena have a much better sense of it :)
Well, considering how Phoenix's parents weren't mentioned even during that time Wright was framed for murder, it's likely that they just BAILED on him and didn't even give him the benefit of the doubt.
I can see why Phoenix never talks about his parents.
I can imagine a sequel where phoenix or trucy finds karuma lying around phoenix's paretns house (if let's say they asked him to sort their attic while they went to canada or something lol) and then see other stuff that ryuu had and phoenix learns about his ancestor
1. You need to make a part 2 of this.
2. The cutoff from you (Debastian) was breaking the 4th wall like never before and I loved it.
3. Ryu and Susa being Phoenix's great grandparents is genius.
4. Maybe Phoenix does not need parents, maybe he needs... a flowery wife.
About Susato, I read somewhere that the TGAA team has confirmed that Susato canonically married Ryunosuke and that she is indeed Phoenix's ancestor too. Not sure if someone can confirm this though

@@debastiansebeste I don’t think Naruhodu really is interested with a relationship but who knows, we can’t really know for sure.
Even the wiki, which already contains enough informations of the characters, doesn’t say they feel any romantic feelings.
I personnally feel more a really deep siblings/close co-workers relationship than actual romance between them but it’s just an opinion, it’s not something we can know for sure.
As for Phoenix, he cannonically had a girlfriend when he was a university student even tho it was really confusing for him at this time, not knowing he dated Iris and not Dahlia all this time, resulting to this "betrayal" in this murder case where he also almost lost his life for the first time.
Tho, perhaps we will never know if he intend to come back with her at some point (because i don’t think she get the death penalty even if she was Godot’s accomplice in his murder plan).
It’s also possible this betrayal kinda made him lost his faith in love to the point of becoming a sort of workaholic.
It’s pretty confusing to actually what can happen for both of them as the game didn’t focus on that.
@@themastermindvigilante4029 look, since Ryunosuke is Phoenix's ancestor, it means he had at least one child. Given the era he lived it, he most definitely got married (99% of the time you don't have children without marriage during the Meiji era :p). Especially since Phoenix has the same last name as Ryunosuke (Naruhodo). Therefore we can safely assume that Ryunosuke did get into a relationship.
Now whether Phoenix's great great grandmother is Susato, Gina or some other random lady, is up to the fans' headcanons I believe

I once wanted to make my own fancases related to Phoenix but it’s really hard to imagine a backstory for a character that wasn’t supposed to have one to begin with. But yeah, i really want to see what can be Phoenix family situation or something related to that.

This remind me of a fan comic series, in which Ryonosuke and Susato's ghost follows Phoenix through his career.
Those comics were very funny, especially one in which Mia could see them.

this made me decide to write a fic of Phoenix's family and decided to make him the son of some prominent family that he just doesn't talk about as he doesn't want all the attention for being the son of said family.
I prefer underdog characters with humble backgrounds, but good luck with it 👌

Not sure if you already knew, but according to Shu Takumi, it's because he wanted Phoenix to be a protagonist that players could easily relate to, which is why his family is never brought up. Aside from that, great video as always!
Yeah I had read that interview and it makes perfect sense. Though in the latest games Phoenix has left the "faceless protagonist" position and become much more as he's now older, so him still not having a full fledged backstory seems funny today xD

@@ejelecflametails6657 I absolutely LOVE the headcanon that every son of the Naruhodou/Wright family is named either some name related to a dragon or a bird, depending on the language.
Would be even funnier if all of the family's daughters (excluding Trucy and any other possible adopted children that already had names by the time the family adopted them) got the same treatment, but reversed (bird-related names in JP, dragon-related ones in EN). It would work ESPECIALLY well considering that in East Asia, the Fenghuang/Hou-ou (basically their version of a phoenix) symbolizes femininity, contrarily to the dragon.

Funnily enough I almost did a video on Phoenix's family, but I scrapped it (I think it's in one of the Unreleased/Scrapped video compilations?). It was mostly just headcanon stuff. I love the idea that everybody else has these super complicated and drama filled families and Phoenix's family is just really boring and normal.
Ikr? I thought having a character have a simple normal family (no parents who died in an accident, no criminals, no general family drama) would break the mold for once xD

This was a good video. We don’t really know much about Phoenix’s history aside from the class trial where he befriended Edgeworth and Larry, him becoming a lawyer to meet Edgeworth, and his college years when the Dahlia incident happened. This is by design since this was done to make Phoenix a more accessible protagonist that’s easy to relate to. Aside from Ryunosuke, we know nothing of parents or any other relatives.

Okay... Portsman and Sherlock Holmes are ordered to roll the Credits. The same Holmes who is friends with Ryuunosuke, who is Phoenix' great grand... ... ... father. So he isn't only a famous Detective, but also able to slow down aging 😂
Phoenix' family isn't mentioned, but actually, we already had Apollo, Miles, Athena and Trucy... So it's probably just another Drama. Larry's Family on the other hand would be quite intersting, I bet they are a bunch of pervs; a Grandpa like Muten-Roshi and a brother like Sanji 😂
Tbf, the family mystery I'm most curious about in Ace Attorney is Edgeworth's true mother. We know for a fact his mother didn't take care of him after DL-6, which probably suggests her mother isn't aware of his existence or is dead. I have this crazy theory that her true mother is Misty Fey, which would make Maya, Mia and Edgeworth half-brothers. We're told that at some point, she married and had Mia and Maya, but her husband died when Maya was young. I may be grasping at straws here, but... what if the husband actually committed suicide after finding out Misty's extramarital affair with Gregory? Since three years passed between Mia's birth and Edgeworth's birth, maybe they were having difficulties having a second child, and Morgan's hatred towards Misty made her afraid and wanting desperately to have two children just in case, thus the affair. After that, she would have told Gregory to raise Miles on his own and keep it a secret unless it was necessary. To support this, I would like to mention the following pieces of evidence:
1. Edgeworth's logic ability could possibly stem from having spiritual power. When he goes into Logic mode, he abstracts himself from the outer world, and we can listen some voices singing, with tones vaguely reminding of other spiritual powers such as the one unleashed by the Magatama. The same would happen with logic chess; others are unaware of the chess pieces defending their secrets, yet we can see them since Edgeworth sees them; just as the Magatama.
2. Edgeworth has some greyish eyes if you look at them very closely, if you look at Misty Fey's sprite in the T&T game, they appear to be quite similar.
At this point, I don't have anything else that can point to this fact, yet I believe I may be onto something here. Any help/suggestions/opinions regarding this matter are well received. Nothing further, Your Honor.
Actually, the theory fits much better if you see it like that: Maya was young when her father died. Maya also happened to be 2-3 years old when Gregory Edgeworth was murdered by Manfred Von Karma.
Boom. Miles and Maya aren't half siblings, they're full siblings. One explanation as to why Gregory and Misty lived separately and Gregory had Miles with him while Misty kept Mia and Maya was because Mia and Maya were girls , so they could be trained as spirit mediums. While Miles was a boy, so there was no place for him or Gregory in Kurain, so the two Edgeworths lived in the city. And tbh I don't think Edgeworth has any spiritual power because supposedly only the ladies of the Fey clan inherit that power. Plus it would undermine his powers of deduction by crediting them to a supernatural power instead of being his own brains.
I genuinely don't think of the Misty/Gregory theory much, but it fits too perfectly if I'm to be honest
@@debastiansebeste Indeed, your explanation benefits my theory a lot, If we look at Maya and Edgeworth hair and eye color, they're much more similar than Maya and Mia's, which would also lead me to believe that they're indeed full siblings. I had forgotten about the only girl medium part, which also explains why Gregory left.
Nonetheless, I don't fully agree with your point of the spiritual power. I think even if it is significantly lower, some of it would still be inside Edgeworth, and would simply allow him to visualize the facts in his brain, as we can see when he uses logic; this doesn't undermine his deduction powers, when he deduces in the AAI games, nothing special happens, same as when using logic, he just connects his thoughts by himself.
Regardless, there would be a little issue here which would need clarification. Who is Mia's father? Is it also Gregory? I think it unlikely in light of the aforementioned, but then it'd become much harder to know.
I understand your feelings regarding the theory since the only conclusive aspect supporting it is that it fits chronologically, but I think maybe further consideration could lead to more evidence in favor of it.

Doesn't the events of DGS take place in late 19th century? If so, ryunosuke and susato would only be about 4 parental generations away assuming each generation had children around mid 20s. We know Phoenix Wright was born in 1992 so the time difference would be about 100 years.
Yeah you're right. The great greats are exaggerated here. But since Sherlock Holmes exists in the game, it's safe to assume that it takes place somewhere near 1890. Therefore Ryunosuke was probably born in 1870. And if we add a new generation every 20-25 years, that means Ryunosuke and Phoenix are apart by 3-4 greats. Which makes Ryunosuke Phoenix's great-great-great(-great) grandfather

As for the Ryunosuke Susato couple, I read an interview somewhere where the developer team of TGAA said that Susato canonically got married to Ryunosuke and that she is indeed Phoenix's ancestor too. I'm still waiting for confirmation from someone else though because I can't find the source that I read lol

Phoenixs parents were knky ever heard of one time in the anime (episode turnabout promise) where phoenix edgeworth and larry meet missile and phoenix mentions his parents wouldnt let him keep missile but i dont think that counts

And also we see a small glimpse of his mother in the flashback in the episode where teen phoenix uses the radio when he reminds Larry of what happened to miles.
A nice video! Two questions:
1) I think it's fine as a fan canon, but do we have a confirmation that Mikotaba and Naruhodo end up together? They send major OTP energies, but so does Phoenix and Maya, and they aren't agreed as OTP...
2) Is Ryunosuke that many great grandfather of Phoenix? The latter was born in the 90's, and the former lived in the Meiji era, which wasn't THAT long ago. They lived only 100 years apart, 130 top. That would make Ryunosuke Phoenix great great grandfather, maybe 3 greats...
1) I had read somewhere that it was canon that Ryunosuke married Susato. I finally found where I read it again and it was just fan theories pretending that the game devs shared the info. Well, in the end I'll just roll with the Ryunosuke and Susato ship because, let's face it, Ryunosuke did have kids with a lady in order to be Phoenix's ancestor, and over Gina or some other random lady I prefer Susato personally
2) I didn't really know when the Meiji Era takes place, and since his birth is noted as 19th century, I assumed that Ryunosuke could have been born on the 1800s. In which case it would place him about 7-9 generations behind Phoenix. Now if he was born in the late 1890s-1890 that's a different story. Let's just roll with "Susato probably overcounted the greats :p
@debastiansebeste 1) Did a little bit of googling, TVTrope has a prediction page with that info.
Someone did phrase the ending of GAA2 as both of them being shipped together (to Japan), so that's the closest to confirmed OTP we're gonna get.
2) The Meiji Restoration happened at 1868, about 5 generations from the 1990s, assuming the Ace Attorney universe had a similar timeline to our own. Just to emphasize the fuzziness of the AA timeline, the wiki never mentions actual years when covering this period. For the record, we don't even know how long it has been since the Meiji Restoration. We can assume it wasn't that long ago (case 1, Auchi is very Samurai-core, and a lot of people mention all that modern stuff is new to Japan), and we know the game is happening at Victorian England.
In conclusion, the game happens in the late 19th century.
...
But it's also funny to think that Susato teased her husband by overcounting the generations, implying he's ancient.
One last thing: Capcom did introduce Phoenix to Ryunosuke. It was a cute way to announce 15th anniversary stuff, like the anime, a concert, GAA2 and maybe DD. You probably know about it, but on the off chance you don't, check it out, it's cute!

I never completed any Ace Attorney game, but I wouldn't even be bothered to play the TGAA series and the crossover game, despite this however... I find your videos all entertaining.

I'd never thought Ryuno and Susato would date, or even get married. I just see them as a silly duo, but what am I supposed to know.
Also, the whole great x1000 grandpa is kinda exaggerating it. Ryuno was born in the 19th century, during the Meiji era. And Nicky boy was born in 1992-1993. I did the math (don't ask how) and I got 70, meaning Ryuno would be 70 when Nucky was born. Idk if I did the math wrong or something else, but hey it's just a theory....... A GAME THEORY the court is ajourned.
No way Ryunosuke was 70 when Phoenix was born. We can check when the game takes place mostly by the fact that Sherlock Holmes exists. Sherlock's actions in the books took place from 1880 to 1914. Given that Herlock is quite young (34 years old I think?), but met Mikotoba 10 years ago, we can theorize that he met Mikotoba in 1880. Therefore he met Ryunosuke in 1890. Therefore Ryunosuke must be born somewhere in the late 1860s (probably 1868). Which means that if we add a generation every 20-25 years, Ryunosuke could be from a great-great-great grandfather to a great-great-great-great-grandfather of Phoenix.
Ergo, I may have exaggerated on the greats, but Ryu is either three or four greats a grandfather to Phoenix

Oh yeah, also, I've been meaning to ask how you get pairs of 3 characters. At first I thought it was some clever trickery and you put two characters in one, but the more you do it, the less convinced I am of that theory, lol
It's really quite simple. In the frames where you see 3 characters here, Phoenix's sprites are pop-ups. Each pose I've turned into a pop-up and placed it over the paired Larry and Edgeworth. However, if I simply placed one of Phoenix's sprites in a frame, I wouldn't be able to fit both his talking and idle sprite in the same frame. So I break each frame where Phoenix talks into 2 frames, one where he does the talking and one where he stops.
Imagine it works like this:
Frame 1 (Talking sprite): blah blah blah[#p100]
[Move immediately to next frame, but without merging]
Frame 2 (Idle sprite): [#p700]
(The p100 in frame 1 is there to give some time to the blip sound to stop normally, without getting abruptly cut)

I'm generally not much disappointed with AA stuff, but if I had to pick one, I'd say it was either Phoenix forgetting his whole character arc in Apollo Justice and reverting back to the goofy Phoenix in Dual Destinies, or Apollo's sudden depression phase in Dual Destinies where he kept that super edgy look with the eyepatch and Clay's jacket
