Finally, I can release this monster of a video! This took me absolutely AGES to complete, due to there being a bunch of bumps in the road during writing causing me to have to swap out sprites several times, so this has probably been in production for the last month or so. But now, it's finished, and I hope you enjoy!
Character codes! I got most of these from the discord server the Untitled Courtroom, that place was super helpful in getting all the assets I needed.

Wouldn't be surprised if they were black locks. Imagine if his feelings for Phoenix were so suppressed that he actually believes he isn't in love for Phoenix and just sees them as good friends at best.
@@dnmstarsi He isn't in love with Phoenix, there's no reason he'd say he loves Phoenix just because he lost the trial, Edgeworth was known as the "demon prosecutor" in the first game due to von Karma's teachings, so its very likely that he started questioning his methods and eventually he decided to stand by the truth instead of winning every trial Von Karma's way.

But they are also for secrets that people really don't want to reveal because if they come out, it would deal a huge psychic damage, probably because they changed of writers for DD...

Ah, I see. As someone who hasn’t quite finished the AJ trilogy, I wasn’t certain how black Psyche-Locks worked, so I played it safe and kept them red just in case I used them wrong. But now I know, so thank you! Also, I’m so glad you enjoyed!

@@mackenzie2462 Yeah, they were originally used for Kristoph and weren't explained, but later used in DD and reasoned as a "repressed memory". Kristoph was probably a different case, though. As alegria said, it's probably since they changed writers and the actual meaning of the original black lock will most likely never be revealed.
I do wonder how much of Edgeworth's memory loss was from the lack of oxygen and how much was his repression. Iirc he passed out very soon after throwing the gun, maybe from exertion, but if that's true then he remembers a surprising amount.

That’s a fair point, I’ve also wondered that to an extent. I think it may be a mix of the two, considering that the memories he did have were fuzzy due to the oxygen deprivation, but also so traumatizing that his subconscious most likely took what he could remember to make it into the form of a nightmare to try and repress it as much as possible. At least, that makes the most sense to me.

That reminds me. In rise from the ashes there's this last bit in the detention center with Lana Skye that is just them trying to create a magatama segment without doing a magatama segment. The one where Lana admits to being manipulated by Gant.
Oh, really? It’s been a bit since I finish RFTA, so I don’t remember every detail. That could be something I could try adapting as well, if I ever wanted to make a sequel to this in that case, considering this video was originally going to include a segment in RFTA before I thought of the other ideas rooted in Turnabout Goodbyes.

Yeah, I definitely think it could’ve been interesting if Psyche-Locks were in the first game. This is only a small idea of what it could pertain.

That is a good point, I think they could’ve been really interesting in that RFTA.
This video was originally going to have a RFTA section, but that changed partway through me writing it. I may do a sequel in RFTA if I feel like doing so.

this is such a cool idea and gives a good impression of how you can believe something so strongly that for yourself it is the truth but in reality it is not, when I saw how sad edgeworth is and he thought he had done that to his father it but then the Psyche-Locks reveal it's not true oh i want so much to scream and just hug edgeworth honestly he deserves everything good, wonderful work on this love it a lot

Ah, yes, that was a mistake on my part due to not fully understanding how black Psyche-Locks worked yes because I hadn’t quite gotten to the right part in Dual Destinies while I was writing this.
Magatamas, plus pesenting profiles as well, are things I'm really glad were introduced but you kind of miss them a little when you revisit the first game. Imagine the "ooooh what's gonna happen" feeling while hovering over Von Karma's profile in Turnabout Goodbyes, or being met with Lana's absolute monsters of psyche locks, and watching them shatter one by one when you dig into the truth of Gant's blackmail.
That assumes Maya would let Phoenix keep the magatama after she leaves for training though. If it's a spare, she'd totally let him have it to remember her by while she's away
Very true! The weird thing about presenting profiles is that it’s only in JFA and T&T, because then it’s unfortunately taken out of the Investigations games AND the Apollo Justice trilogy…at least Psyche-Locks come back, though, albeit a bit nerfed.

Neat video! If I could offer any advice, I'd probably speed the dialogue of the text up more. It feels kinda slow at times, the text is a little faster in the usual games so it feels like someone actually talking at a normal pace.
I’m glad you enjoyed it! Huh, I usually keep the normal lines of dialogue at the default text speed of 35 and speed up and slow down when necessary for effect, but maybe I should toy with the default a little more…thanks!

Oh, yes, this is a critique I’ve been getting a lot! In hindsight, I probably should’ve used black Psyche-Locks, but I didn’t fully understand how they worked yet since I hadn’t gotten to the right part in DD to have an understanding of them, so I just used red ones to be safe in case I misused them.

Technically speaking, Edgey’s Psyche-Locks should have been black.
There's a moment at the very end of Rise from the Ashes's final investigation that... looking back, seemed like a Psyche-Lock segment before Psyche-Locks could be seen.
I want to see the final Lana conversation adapted into a Psyche-Lock sequence.
I should take a look at that conversation, because I was planning on making part of this video in RFTA originally. That may be a fun thing to do.

The problem is that Maya did not know about her Magatama's abilities, and only learned about them in T&T
Yeah, I thought about that while making it, but there wasn’t exactly any other work around so since this is a what if scenario I just went with her having learned earlier. I give a little hint that Pearl had told her about it back in the village and she was relaying the explanation she was given for her to Phoenix.

I keep cringing with your repeated description of the magatama as a "lie detector". It detects when people hold secrets within their hearts they're afraid are in threat of getting out. The difference is subtle but important. It wouldn't activate if someone who is really short claimed they're really tall.
Oh, well, apologies. It was the best and shortest description I thought would get the point across enough, though I suppose I should’ve reworded it. I’m not quite sure why I kept using that descriptor, if I’m being honest. So apologies again.

Since its too early in the timeline, black psyche locks didn't exist yet.
