I like that you lowkey call out the flaws in this case in your writing of these characters. Phoenix accepting suspicious evidence w/o questioning its authenticity, the Judge not giving Phoenix a chance to explain himself, etc.
Even more painful is that the whole P.I.C arc, or even the whole Investigation Spin-Off, is basically Shu Takumi trying to fix his mistake while writing Apollo Justice.
@@Heylanda-fb9xb The Investigations games were not written by Takumi, they were instead written by Takeshi Yamazaki who became the series director after Apollo Justice. (Besides the Great Ace Attorney and Professor Layton crossover games.)

Apollo Justice and Investigation 1 story was written by Shu Takumi as a rough sketch for a possible continuation of the AA story, since he only plan to direct the trilogy only, and the have Yamazaki as a director to execute the idea.
It wasn't until Investigation 2 that Shu was replace entirely and become a partial reason why we never got AAI2 localize, because the initial agreement was to localize Ace Attorney franchise under Shu's agreement.

What if Phoenix had just asked the judge to pose a question to Klavier, and asked: "How could the person who gave you the tip know I'd prepared this evidence?" There can only be two scenarios: Phoenix was the one who requested the forgery, and he told said person (which is an absurd action, therefore we discard this scenario) or the person who gave the tip requested the forgery, and somehow managed to give it to Wright. Boom, disbarment avoided, Kristoph goes to jail
sadly, gavin would probably just brush it off as "i have my ways", i mean, eavesdropping on phoenix would be a way better crime to admit to than forgery
@@arlo9754 but what would he exactly admit to? And besides, he would have to offer proof he really eavesdropped on Phoenix, since he's the one striving to accuse Phoenix of requesting a forgery in the first place. "I have my ways" would be a hardly acceptable response in such a context, I reckon.
@@onwu6894 i meant as in, if anyone asked him what those "ways" were, he could just say he was listening in to phoenix monologuing about the forged evidence at some point or something like that
@@arlo9754 very well, but once again, it would be Klavier who would have to prove such a thing, since he is the one who made the accusation, and Phoenix offered a quite realistic and logical alternative in which he would be innocent
Additionally, I think all Wright has to do is point out that there was a last minute change of attorneys so he wouldn't have been able to make the request in time. It should be noted that Apollo himself pointed this out in Turnabout Succession.

@@debastiansebeste In my opinion, the decisions made are mostly understandable when you realize that Zak was a terrible, cryptic, and non-cooperative client, and Wright didn't even get to so much as investigate before the trial. No doubt he was off his game by a notable margin, including being careless enough to present entirely unverified evidence, considering his naivete.
Honestly, I'm more frustrated with the immediate and rash judgment from the judge concerning the matter. The man's seen Wright not just win (most of) his cases, but force organic confessions out of the true killers in virtually every case he's been a part of. It seems a huge face-turn to immediately believe that same attorney turned to forgery, of all things.
@@starwarriorterra8373Yeah it might’ve made more sense if it was the Judge’s Brother (The one in Trials and Tribulations), the only other judge in the mainline games who doesn’t have as much of a connection with Phoenix therefore would be more believing of the accusations and thus more easy to see how Phoenix was disbarred and maybe some extra text on the circumstances Phoenix was placed in by his client (maybe even a small line of a lack of sleep if needed) and there.
We have a fresh off Trials and Tribulations confident Phoenix with him having a shady client (and lackluster preparations even for him) going up against a newcomer of a prosecutor (who isn’t anything like Godot) with a judge he hadn’t (or barely) knows (and likewise the judge doesn’t know him) and once Phoenix presents the forged evidence it’s easier to see how Phoenix was disbarred.
And here you go, a slightly easier to believe story of Phoenix’s disbarment
Phoenix basically had no fault, Zak was definitely a bad client, and even the writing dumbed down in that part to disbarr Phoenix, Zak doesn't shows the torn page of diary because he doesn’t wants to, like I grabbed my head at that part lol. @@debastiansebeste

Even if the court would accept Phoenix' mistake, considering it was technically Trucy who gave him the page, so it wouldn't look all that good for his client. 😂

Bro I loved this I remember being so pissed off at the judge for how he treated phoenix in this trial. You'd think after being in a majority of his trials and he saw how phoenix would always pursue the truth, he would at least give him a chance to explain himself and at the same time it was really stupid of phoenix to take evidence from some random child smh
Yeah, I was also pissed at how easily the Judge simply believed Drew Misham immediately over Wright. Like, the dude walks in, sees the page and says "yep, that's mine, I have a signature of mine on it", and the judge instantly goes "Mr. Wright you've betrayed my trust!"

this is only tangentially related but I really am impressed at how you managed to pull off a convincingly fun dynamic between Jacques Portsman and Herlock sholmes. It sounds just as appealing a combo as peanut butter and water, but you managed to pull it off perfecty (even if they only have a handful of lines for each other most of the time)

Edgeworth and Franziska actually acting like siblings here is something I live for
I loved 4-4, but the characters specifically in the past trial were so painfully out of character. Nice to see it used in a comedic way.
Ngl I barfed when Phoenix said "the greener they are the harder they fall" about Klavier. I swear he forgot he was a greenhorn himself 3 years ago xD
@@debastiansebeste you know, this flashback is so wrong that it'll hurts you anyway, whenewer you decide to play AJ: right after trilogy or after Investigations duology. In first case you'll feel how much Phoenix is fake here, in second - how Gumshoe feels so cartoonishly
@@Mad_Man_With_A_Box it's pretty much the case of "the story forcing itself on the characters" instead of the story flowing naturally through the actions of the characters.
The writers were way too bent on disbarring Phoenix, that they decided to have Phoenix, Gumshoe and the Judge act completely out of character in that flashback in order to allow the disbarment to happen

To be fair, it was exactly because AA4 execution of Phoenix's final trial is so bad that they have to make Investigation series to soft-explain how Edgeworth and other are unable to protect him at the time.
I swear if the court scene goes on for longer, we will somehow get godot or pearl in here. Also if their discussion defending phoinex, it may turn into a whole other Turnabout of them trying to find the original forger before hunting down the man who force the forgery (note: the only reason I didn't say their names beacuse it's from their perspective)
I had a fun "What If" idea, of that Judge Courtney was the judge of the Turnabout Goodbyes trial

Ok, in Phoenix defense, this is how he got all his evidence so far, just grabbing it from the crime scene or given to him by other people
I feel it's unfair to act like it was a dumb mistake he only did once rather than stuff he does all the time that just backfired on him this time
There's a big difference here though. Unlike other times, not only did he not find this evidence himself from his own investigation by searching places or asking people, he was unsolicitedly given it by some unknown girl, he didn't bother questioning who gave it to said girl, and just plunged head first right into chaos.
@@debastiansebeste It was the daughter of his client that gave it to him, I feel that's enough to at least trust it a little and use it, it's not like he had time to prepare either.

How’d you do the 3 characters in one scene?
In the scene with Phoenix, Edgeworth and Franziska, Phoenix is a pop-up. Same with the scene with the Judge, Courtney and Klavier, the Judge is the pop-up. I take their poses and turn them into pop-ups :p

I think if if Phoenix was able to identify that the person who handed Trucy the forged evidence was Kristoph, then maybe he would still have a shot?
That's if Zak would allow Trucy to testify. And of course, the fact that Phoenix accepted the shady evidence on his own, plus the fact that it was given to him by his client's daughter.
Everything is against him, to the point where I doubt "identifying Kristoph" would even be up for discussion afterwards

Well, you could pretty much just play the DS/3SS roms of the games. The DS ones are playable even on android, and they're free. I suggest the FreeDS emulator for DS and Citra Canary for 3ds

It wasn't because of Objection lol, it's because in this frame Phoenix is a pop-up instead of a character (the only way I've found to fit 3 characters in a single frame xD), but unfortunately when the camera moves Phoenix is still considered a pop-up and follows the camera until he disappears xD

You know, real talk here. I have no legal knowledge, and maybe it was talked about here in the video already (i don't know yet), but while i don't think Phoneix Deserved to get disbarred for what happend, i DO think he needed to get punished. Think about it: He got evidence from at the time to be a complete stranger, that just so HAPPEND to somehow match perfectly in the diary, and he never bothered to check it's legitmacy. I don't see why he couldn't ask the judge or prosecution or both to be able to verify the evidence. Instead, he presented unferified evidence in a court of law. In other words, like phoneix said, he was careless, which is one of the WORST things you can be as an attonery. Now did he forge the paper? Of course not. But he still presented it without thinking of the potential problems that could arise from that. Although, like i said before, i have no legal knowlege myself, so take what i say here with a grain of salt, and hopefully i said nothing wrong and/or stupid here.
Well, like I've said before, the writing team was too focused on disbarring Phoenix, to the point where they just had every character in the courthouse being completely off character - Gumshoe completely antagonizing Phoenix despite their past in the Trilogy, the Judge not questioning whether Phoenix might be innocent even for a second, and especially Phoenix being a smug idiot who looks down on Klavier for his "inexperience" and is way too bent on winning.
I just can't really take this trial seriously ngl lol

i just don’t understand how phoenix could have requested the forged evidence in time. wasn’t he hired literally the day before? would we not want to look into who the defense was before him? the only person who would have time to order a forgery? and also conveniently the same person who made the tip??
Supposedly (unless I'm mistaken), it wasn't publicly known for how long Zak Gramarye had hired Phoenix, same as it wasn't known that his first attorney was Kristoph Gavin. So I guess the judge would have to look for the dates of the contract Zak signed with Phoenix to ensure that Phoenix barely had time to get ready for the trial
