I haven't explored using this with audio too much, but free tempo is suppose to work the same way with audio. You could also create beat mapping after the fact, but that is a bit more labor intensive. Cheers Georges
Thanks so much for this video - brilliant! I use 10.7.4 so this function is unfortunately not available - I have recorded a series of ideas on midi piano played without metronome - is there any way to retrospectively alter tempo of these different regions to map to a newly set project tempo and also to fall on the downbeat?
Hey Andy, there's a few options that you could consider. If you simply change the overall project tempo it will speed up or slow down the midi you've recorded just as you played it. Next, you can tempo map your project as well in the Global Tracks area (I'll try and create a video for this). If you tempo map, it'll keep the tempo as you played it but it'll adjust the grid to fit your playing. For example bar one might be 99bpm and bar two 101bpm. The last option is to just manually move your MIDI notes using the piano roll to the beats you'd like them to fall on. I hope that helps. Cheers Georges
Got a question … so if your timing could be better… Well, free tempo, adjust your performance closer to the grid such as flex timing would do or does it merely find your tempo ? Thanks Mike
Hi Mike, basically it conforms the grid to your playing (if you select Region Tempo to Project). You could always quantize your performance and set a steady tempo after the fact as well if that's what you're after. Selecting Project Tempo to Region will conform your playing to the project tempo you have set. I hope that answers your question. Cheers Georges

Awesome! Does someone have experience, how this works with audio recording? Or maybe recording a band without click? Thanks!

this is exactly what I was looking for - thank you!
You're welcome! I'm glad you found it! 😄
