I was able to run a 5K yesterday and realized I need to create a video comparing the data from the TicWatch 3 P.U.G. and the Galaxy Watch4 - yeah, I wore both during the workout and all day yesterday. There are two very different smartwatches. There are several things that make any timepiece a smartwatch or just a wearable with a fancy OLED screen and they are:
    1. smartwatches should be able to exit a workout and navigation the entire watchOS
    2. smartwatches need to be read/write when it comes to text messages
    3. a true smartwatch should not only track sleep, but also power naps
    4. smartwatch is only as good as the software it connects too - the Mobvoi Health apps is not as finely tuned as Samsung Health and one would expect that. Mobvoi has been vast improvements from 2020 when I tested the TicWatch 3
    5. smartwatches should have interactive watchfaces that are also customizable
    6. your smartwatch should have a Bluetooth 5.0 and connect to accessories (heart-rate monitor, earbuds, speakers)
    7. your 2021 smartwatch should be able to make, decline, and accept phone calls via Bluetooth headset or onboard speaker
    8. smartwatches selling in Q4-2021 should have a screen-lock option for swimming or simply locking the screen for other various workouts or just sleeping
    9. smartwatch should detect accurate steps, heart-rate, GPS, calories, workouts, ect.
    10. a great smartwatch should pair with the smartphone and when DND is enabled on one it is enabled on the other. Samsung, Apple do this beautiful - both OnePlus and TicWatch fail
    11. a smartwatch selling for $300 - 400.00 USD should be fun - the fun factor is important when it comes to motivating humans to get off the couch and pause Netflix. Badges, awards, challenges, leaderboard with friends, competitions, and the ability to share workouts or whatever. Samsung is pretty good and TicWatch is trying hard, yet Mobvoi (TicWatch) has miles to go with the fun-factor and leaderboard.
    12. smarwatches should have an A.I. assistant (Samsung, Apple, and now TicWatch all do well here)
    13. smartwatches should have AOD (always-on display) - yes, Apple, Fossil Gen 6, Garmin, TicWatch, yep, they all have AOD now
    14. Battery life - my dream smartwatch would be fully charged on Friday afternoon and reach Monday afternoon on a single charge. TicWatch is the only one able to meet this last requirement with the electronic-ink display.
So, did I answer your questions...?
    Sincerely,
    Pietro Herget

After six hours of filming, reshooting, another four hours of editing, and then seven hours of uploading and waiting for UA-cam to process the 1080P 60FPS video, yes, my review of the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS smartwatch is now live. I watched it twice since it was published late last night. There were sections I wanted to reshoot again, alas, I only have so much time for this hobby of mine. It is funny how testing wearables, wearing gadgets, working out with smartwatches has become this part-time hobby. And yes, quite the distraction. I am lucky to have a loving family to keep me grounded, balanced, and remind me to unplug and not shoot videos or spend too much time behind the screens. Thank you to everyone - you all, my online friends, associates from past, old coworkers, family, and my beloved neighbors for watching, often silly, gadget reviews. The first 20 minutes are worth watch and I placed chapter shortcuts for the best parts that may or may not interest your geeky brain...

Do not disturb is only for your watch only not for linking to your mobile ..that is normal

    • @PeterHerget
      @PeterHerget  2 роки тому +1

That is normal for a Android to Android communication (watch to phone)? Sorry, I do not concur... Samsung and Apple watches are both able to utilize the DND (do not disturb) modes in a perfect marriage of communication:
      1. on your Samsung Galaxy or Apple Watch click the DND button and the DND is enabled on your watch and the paired smartphone
      2. on your Apple iPhone click the DND, Sleep Mode, or one of the other 11 modes you've configured, boom! And the same mode is communicated from your iPhone over to your Apple Watch
      3. on your Samsung smartphone, i.e. Galaxy S20, S21, S21, Galaxy Zed Flip 3, click on the DND or Bedtime Mode button and... VIOLA! The same mode is quickly and nearly instantaneously communicated from the phone over to your Galaxy Watch4. I use this feature at least thrice daily and love it.
I am not arguing with you at all, "T L H H" I simply feel a need for certain features from the watch to phone and when those feature are either not refined or missing entirely, nope, I often do NOT keep the watch. The OnePlus Watch was an exception for it was only $129.00 USD and yeah, it fails to communicate correctly. I filmed a follow-up video about the OnePlus Watch a few days ago and it will be released sometime in the next 88 hours.

      @PeterHerget  2 роки тому +2

Yes, the TicWatch has much room to improve. The app needs another QA Test Engineer and one more Code Developer to help the app better communicate with the watch. TicWatch is years ahead of OnePlus and yet the OnePlus Watch has more refinement in many areas over the TicWatch. Hey, maybe I should do a three-day study comparing OnePlus against the TicWatch...?

    • @PeterHerget
      @PeterHerget  2 роки тому +2

Correct, the Withings ScanWatch doesn't connect to the system settings of the smartphone. When I place the ScanWatch into DND (Do Not Disturb) mode it doesn't effect my Android OnePlus 9 smartphone in the least. The bummer part is the following:
      1. at night when it is time for the human wearing this timepiece to go to bed they have to remember to place the watch into DND mode to sleep undisturbed
      2. at night you have to manually turn off the "raise to wake" feature or the brightness of the circular window under the watchface can easily wake you or the person in your bed
      3. in the morning you have manually turn off DND and turn back on "raise to wake"
Most watches have windows of time to automatically turn on/turn off such features.

The Wear OS Software issue is related to a contracted Samsung has with Google . WHICH GIVES THEM A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME WITH WHERE OS3 BEFORE ANY OTHER COMPANY CAN HAVE IT.Google’s new Wear OS platform is here, but for now, Wear OS 3 smartwatches will be few and far between. Samsung, which partnered with Google to create the “unified platform,” is set to remain ahead of the pack with exclusive rights to the new operating system for the time being.

I tested AOD (always on display) and I had on a schedule from 08:00 to 21:00 every day and the watch still lasted a solid four days. The ambient light sensor appears to do a good job adjusting the brightness as needed. Though at night, it is often a little too bright.

Six months later wtih the Galaxy Watch5 Pro, and nope, Samsung dropped the ball with this wearable. The Galaxy Watch4 Classic was a better watch. The sapphire screen and maybe another 27 hours of battery life are the only improvements. For the Galaxy Watch6, yes, the following will be needed:
      1. faster processor
      2. keep the sapphire screen
      3. 600mAh battery
      4. hardware rotating bezel (it worked for years, Samsung, why did you take it away from customers?)
      5. lap button for workouts, please!
      6. website interface to view the health metrics (see Fitbit, Garmin, Withings, ŌURA, Polar, COROS, and few others)
      7. better goal animations
      8. renew the contract with Peanuts and the Charles M. Schuz Foundation and bring back those cool, animated Peanuts watch faces - they were the best!
      9. the ticking sound for your cool, analog watchfaces is great, it just needs an easy setting to adjust the sound of the tick. I find the ticking sound of the seconds hand to be a unique feature of Samsung smartwatches and I would like to hear it more easily, please 😁
      10. The next Galaxy Watch6 needs to be more Samsung & less conforming to the WearOS by Google
      11. The leaderboard and your monthly challenges need something more

Hey Peter, I've had my PUG for about 2 weeks now. After about a week and some serious tinkering, I was able to stop that annoying glow in bed during the night. I basically set up the essential mode to start and end with the included timer (NOT the DND timer) and it basically enters a deep essential mode which only allows you to press top button to activate the backlight for a 2-3 seconds. Otherwise thanks for your honest review. I'm not sure if I'm keeping this PUG as I still have 10 days to send it back. I'm coming from a Garmin Vivoactive 3, but was eager to move up to the latest and greatest for me, but still working out what I want and need. I'm realizing that I really don't need to make phone calls from my watch, even though this features works quite well. Anyway, thanks again for this review and feel free to make a recommendation!! i just realized that I'm extremely late to this party, SORRY!!

I truly wanted to like, and love wearing the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS; however, this "P.U.G." timepiece was simply inconsistent with health tracking analytics. The battery life, the fun factor, the User Interface, the dual screens, the features, yes, all of that was great. However, if the health tracking (heart rate, sleep, naps, calories, workouts) are not up to par with Fitbit, Samsung, Garmin, and Apple. Nope, it was a pass for my lifestyle. And yeah, there was the cigarette burn on my screen - returned! I have tried two or three of their wearables now, and not kept any over three months. The idea is great Mobvoi simply needs more refinement if they are going to charge $300.00; here in Utah one can go to Costco and pick-up an Apple Watch SE for the same price as the Mobvoi P.U.G. 🤔😅😏

Thanks for the comment Abbas! Whenever I order a I gadget I plan on keeping it. Over the past two years, nope, I only ordered one gadget without intent of keeping it or just selling it later and that was the Microsoft Duo smartphone that was $1,600.00. When I ordered it I asked the Sales Agents where their return policy was and paid for the extra insurance just in case. Okay, there is my honesty verbiage. With the TicWatch I was quite excited so what changes they had made for I had not used their software in over nine months. After a few weeks my screen ended up with pixel burn mark and then WearOS 2.3 got under my skin. I wanted to keep it and then discovered WearOS 3 would most likely not be released to Mobvoi for another six months. At the time of purchase their website was not clear which version of WearOS came installed on the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS. So, because of the old WearOS software and the faulty screen, yes, that is why I returned it. I hope you have a better experience than I did. Many people don't mind the older versions of WearOS, but I sure do and it has kept from testing many watches over the past year. Happy Holidays!

The Bluetooth on the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS may be the problem. I connected other smartwatches to my OnePlus 9 Pro smartphone and didn't have any connection issues nor synchronization delays. What it comes to is the quality of the hardware components a company builds into their devices. If you compare it to a road or mountain bike, sure, there are many that look nice, but when you start peddling and shifting gears, yep, the cheap components show their ugliness. As it is with smartphones and smartwatches too - Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, the type of RAM, the brand of processor, the amount of RAM, the touchscreen manufacturer - it all adds up to either a wonderful, just okay, or a horrible customer experience. I hope that Mobvoi is able to make changes to their watches and reach more people to increase their sales. With more sales they can invest in better hardware and increase they quality of software. They have so much potential. Anyway... I hope you have a wonderful time with your TicWatch - they are fun to wear!

The Galaxy Watch4 is more refined, it is more accurate, more fun, has more features, and is better supported. The TicWatch has the 'Essential Mode' for saving battery life; however, you lose too many features. I'll address these topics in my comparison video coming out soon - "TicWatch 3 or Galaxy Watch4?" I fully charged my Galaxy Watch4 23 hours and 40 minutes ago and it is at 51%. Slept with it last night, went on a 90 minutes outdoor walk using GPS. I place my watches in airplane mode, so that saves a tiny bit of juice. Samsung Wear app is telling me I still have 18 hours and 14 minutes left of battery. Notifications are on, raise-to-wake is enabled, constant HR enabled, yeah, nearly a day and a half of battery. Keep in mind though, the TicWatch 3 P.U.G. lost 10,000 steps of my activity on Day 3... that is horrible! And today, it kept beeping that my heart-rate was spiking to 213 bpm (beats per minute) when Apple, Fitbit, Garmin, OURA, and Samsung were all telling me hear rate was only 90 to 95 bpm while walking - what? If the Galaxy Watch4 was much more $$$ over the TicWatch I may feel differently. I made a video during lunch about Samsung vs. TicWatch. I feel it will help you make the right decision. I plan to finish the edits tonight and it should be fully rendered and public sometime over the next 4 - 7 hours.

If you disabled GPS, kept the phone in airplane mode (disabling both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), and disabled the following:
      1. tilt to wake Smart Mode
      2. tilt to wake Essential Mode
      3. disabled the TicZen for the stress monitoring
      4. disabled the SP02 sensor
Yep, it could easily last for four to six days. I kept the TicWatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS (code name TW3 P.U.G.) connected to my phone, but disabled Wi-Fi, had Sp02 running at night, tracked my sleep, disabled that TicZen, and the battery only went down about 15% over 24 hours. I tracked over 6,000 steps yesterday too. You could extend the battery life even more if you scheduled the TicWatch to go into "Essential Mode" from 21:00 to 09:00 during off hours or whenever you do sleep, and then during daylight, the watch would automatically switch back into Smart Mode and you would be able to enjoy the many, many cool watch faces that yes, they are beautiful.

Currently, the only watches actively running Wear OS 3 are the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and the Galaxy Watch 4 Classic. So far, reviews of these two devices bode well for the platform, but we’ve yet to see a solid update commitment from Google. Aside from these Samsung devices, only select existing smartwatches will be eligible for the software update. It also won’t be available any time soon.
Current smartwatches that will receive the Wear OS 3 update
Some existing watches can stay tuned for an upgrade of their own. Google has confirmed that a select few Wear OS devices will receive the new update, but the invite list is very short. Current devices eligible for the upgrade include:
Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 3 GPS and LTE
    Mobvoi TicWatch E3
    Fossil Gen 6
Mobvoi Ticwatch Pro 3 Ultra GPS and Ultra 4G
    Skagen Falster Gen 6
    Michael Kors Gen 6 Bradshaw
    Razer X Fossil Gen 6
And that’s it. No other current-gen smartwatches - not the Moto 360, Suunto 7, or Skagen Falster 3 - will get the update.
Originally, Gen 6 teasers promoted the device as launching with Wear OS 3 out of the box. This wasn’t the case. Instead, the latest Fossil flagship watch will have to wait like everyone else who isn’t Samsung. Older existing Fossil watches like the Gen 5 will not upgrade to the new software.
A few more things to note: Wear OS 3 won’t start rolling out until sometime later this year. This means Fossil and TicWatch users have a while to wait. Additionally, Wear OS 3 packs a big punch. The sheer extent of changes included in the update will require users to reset their device to factory settings. That means erasing any and all data stored on the smartwatch itself. If this makes some hesitant to update to Wear OS 3, they can simply choose not to do it. Users who opt-out will still experience app and security updates for at least two years from the launch of their device.
Future watches confirmed to launch with Wear OS 3
So far, we’ve heard from only a few companies regarding their future Wear OS 3-powered smartwatches. These yet-to-be-announced smartwatches are confirmed to launch with Wear OS 3:
    Future Mobvoi TicWatch watches
    Future watches from Fossil Group
    Tag Heuer Calibre E4
We have not heard word from Motorola, Suunto, Oppo, or other smartwatch makers regarding their plans with Wear OS 3. We will update this list as we learn more.
If you’ve been patiently waiting for the best time to purchase a smartwatch, you might want to wait a little longer. Wear OS 3 will bring exciting upgrades to Wear OS-powered smartwatches, but not every device can expect to reap the benefits.

@@PeterHerget So I decided to buy Mobvoi over Samsung and was a big proponent of the watch. I loved the watch and wore it daily. A year or so went by and I noticed my battery would not stay charged very long. So I contacted Mobvoi to ask about sending it in for service or buying parts. They told me my watch was out of warranty which I knew and even said I am not asking for anything free I just want to get a new battery in a watch I love to continue wearing it because in my mind its purchase price was beyond a throw away watch. Mobvoi made me jump through all kinds of hoops with multiple back and forth emails asking me to videotape the watches issue. Thought that was odd considering it was battery life but none the less I shot a video showing the watch fully charged with my computer showing the time and date in the background and then a few hours later when the watch was dead I shot a similar video and sent that to Mobvoi. They offered me a 20% off a new watch I politely declined and said no I would just like to fix the watch I already spent plenty of money on and I understand I will have to pay for shipping both ways along with the repair unless its something I could easily do myself and if it was I would of course pay for the new battery and shipping. It was at that point after all that crap that Mobvoi admitted they have no system in place to fix a watch that is out of warranty.... I begged them over and over to make it right but they refused so now until the end of time I will continue to post warnings. They already removed me from commenting on their facebook page and I noticed their youtube video comments are turned off. It's really sad I did a ton of research before purchasing and loved the watch but if I had purchased the Samsung gear (my second choice) and the same thing happened I could have gotten it fixed.
