all im saying is that jigsaw better be sending his survivors a check in the mail for their foot amputated beartrap tongue remover machine induced hospital bills if he wants to make a point about healthcare
Hahaha! 😆😅😂🤣💀
Learning how much commentary on the healthcare system the Saw movies have really puts Repo! The Genetic Opera in a new light
If it was real life Jigsaw would be so screwed. Perhaps not for murder or assault but there would be civil cases aplenty to keep the legal system busy af 😂
Junji Ito wants his brand back
When this was first announced, I didn't realize it was a Saw movie and was thinking it would be an American take on the Spiral idea, with Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson. Which intrigued me. Not that I thought it would be good, American "takes" on Japanese properties generally tend to just be cashing in on trends, but anyone attempting to tackle a Junji Ito manga has at least a little of my respect. (And, yeah, I'm still not over P.T. Show me a Silent Hill fan that wasn't excited about Junji Ito being part of a SH project.) Then partway through the trailer, it hit me that it was just another Saw movie, and I promptly lost interest... XDDD
@@chrissysky01 Uzumaki has already been made into a live action film, though.
@@LaydiNite yeah some things are just better left as is. If it ain't broke don't try to fix it. Ito would most likely not translate to American very well at all, any of his works.
I unironically love repo and would love to hear your take on it! And somehow didn't realize he was the same guy behind the saws
Was sad that Repo couldn’t get a follow-up but The Devil’s Carnival movies were a lot of fun, and I’ll take another one of those if they get the chance to make it.
Zydrate comes in a little glass vial....
Wait, is Repo considered a bad thing to like? I love that movie!
@@XxPiRoXxX to my understanding it's considered a cult classic and less popular/well crafted than devils carnival, which I don't know if I agree with (partially because I've only listened to DC and can't criticize it the way I can critique repo)
@@XxPiRoXxX I will say that from my understanding of Saw that repo is better than Saw, but Saw is a gore fest that's also a convoluted soap opera that's had more than 3 different directors so I feel like that makes it take a hit in quality because it's had so many creative directions and it's trying to do a lot of different things
I was definitely also thinking it was blue line-y. to me it felt like a movie that was trying to impart "those anti-police people may be right, there are bad cops, BUT those people are so extreme they would back cold-blooded serial killers because of that 😳" or something to that tune. "your idea has merit but it's too extreme" kind of dismissal.
they also had that scene when chris rock and the other guy were going to investigate the subway murder and chris rock's character was listing off all the hazards of being a cop, including high suicide rates, high divorce rates, and *high domestic abuse rates*. like.. the rates at which cops abuse their families. but it was phrased as if this is something in which cops are the victims like huh??? excuse me??
i couldn't really be surprised because most cop media I've seen handles the problem of cops killing innocents and this whole system of violence in the same way--a problem of individual cops (but the rest are good and the profession is good).
God when he said the domestic abuse line I nearly choked on my popcorn. Glad other people clocked that one, baffling choice of dialogue
it reminds me of how Bane was right and that created a problem for the writers so then they gave him a nuke
right like that line seemed to imply either cops jobs are SO HARD they HAVE to abuse their partners (which is fucked up and victim blaming) or that cops are more likely to be abused BY their partners (which is completely false). i'm hoping whoever wrote that just jammed it in without thinking because they saw a Google result about cops and domestic violence because if that was a conscious decision that's fucked. What's next a saw movie about how the military industrial complex is epic
@@LieseFury or how those anarchists in Korra were right and the writers realized that so they made them kidnap some airbenders
I don’t really understand this reading of saying the police were good but had a few bad apples tbh as imo Spiral proposed the exact opposite reading.
In other words, Chris Rock’s character was the ONLY good cop in an otherwise universally bad police department. Spiral wasn’t a story of bad apples ruining a good system, it was a story of there only being a single good member left of what was otherwise an entirely bad system. This was reflected by the fact that even Samuel L Jackson and Marisol Nichols’ characters were initially set up to be heroes of the policing community only to later be revealed as being complicit in the police department’s corruption, leaving Chris Rock as the only cop worth saving... hence why Spiral even offered him the chance to work with him.
i feel like the concept of “a saw copy cat targeting cops” could have been interesting. while i was watching ur vid i was thinking it could be interesting if the twist was the copy cat was also a cop trying to get even more funding for cops by making their jobs seem more dangerous than they are, and all his targets are the good cops as a way of rooting out the people trying to change the system from the inside. ah well, acab. (edited for typo)
That does sound like a better movie
That sounds so much better tbh
As someone with diabetes, who constantly gets screwed by insurance companies, Saw 6 is beautiful: just a health insurance exec getting what's coming to him.
It feels like the film is yelling about bad apples the whole time, but can't make its mind up on whether it meants "it's just a few bad apples really most police are ok" and "a few bad apples spoils the lot" which is likely due to the fact they wanted this film to sell and not really offend anyone.
The traps do suck tho, but in a way that feels honest. They have no intention of any escape being possible because like every other saw trap ever minus a few exceptions, the goal isn't to see someone heroicly escape from their shackles bloodied and beaten, it's to see someones head explode because they didn't remove all their organs onto a collection plate with a rusty spoon to symbolize how they didn't help an old lady cross the road one time. The traps are just elaborate mulching machines, and at least this one doesn't give anyone a chance before mulching them - though obviously I'd be so much more interested in a Saw film where people escaped the traps and beat the killer in the end via teamwork...

This wins the "I paused the video to read this comment" award
Chris rock is a "good cop" that tortures a dude both in front of the audience and in front of the villian
@Daddy Goat boo hoo my name is daddy goat and i don't understand the nuance of humanity and how people have to survive when they don't have their most basic needs met, i'm also a boot licker.
When the killer started explaining everything to Chris rock I audibly said “oh come on”
Lmao literally that's what sent me for a loop because in that moment he is so absurdly, comically evil that you could use a moment like that as justification for "this guy is one of the worst cops....." literally overassaulting and then torturing a petty drug dealer lmao
Am I the only one that thought Jigsaw's excuses were supposed to be flimsy? Like, he just wanted to torture and kill people but tried to convince himself he was a good dude?
Yes, they are supposed to be somewhat flimsy, but they should be consistent.
@@liesalllies THANK YOU. Well said. I mean the guy tortured a man for grieving too much ffs.
@@stefanfilipovits21 I imagined he picked his victims based on who would be easier to get, and then he made some shit up. Like, wasn't the grieving father spending most of his time alone, and was poor, so it'd harder for the authorities to notice? Hell, the highest profile people he got was a medic and a detective.
@@marreco6347 I actually never considered that tbh but it totally tracks
@marreco you mean like the way cops do?
I saw the title and panicked that they made a n American remake of Uzumaki
I'd watch it. I'd tear it apart, but I'd watch it. It can't be worse than the opening to the Gyo movie that I couldn't finish.
Me too !
Adult Swim/Toonsmi is coming out with Uzumaki/Spiral supposedly this year. It sounds like they’re gonna be as faithful to the manga as possible, I just hope that they don’t end up butchering it in the process...
@@Polyeurythane -or wasting half an hour on an uncomfortable threeway subplot before any of the horror gets started.
@@Polyeurythane the teaser we got so far seems to set the right mood. the soundtrack is being done by the same guy who did it in the trailer and by GOD does that music fit uzumaki so much
i think a twitch streamer i watch said this but the idea that as the series went on, the lore became that there's a bunch of jigsaw copycats who's traps are just poorly thought out and picks victims semi-randomly is just such a perfect metaphor for the series it's self
I can't help but, when a movie tries to lean into Thin Blue Line / 'police as a different class of people' stuff, all I can think about any more is that 'Killology' / Dave Grossman guy who views police as a different class, not because of any risk posed to them, but because he sees policing as a calling in which you must actively will to kill other people who you deem lesser, in order to protect other people (who you also see as lesser).
I guess they tried something neat but they're still waving around the gateway drug, y'know?
Well said
Just gotta pause the video just to say your room setup is adorable and so are you :D okay here we goo
@I’m Too Kind for This Nonsense lol. Although going goo is a common experience while watching a May video. Or maybe I just ate the Stuff...
I came here to say this. 💯
The movie itself completely destroyed the message by it's fumbling, but I think the Spiral killer gave the cops the illusion of breaking free off the trap because it's a metaphor for how cops pretend to give the people they kill the opinion of avoiding death then kill them anyway. Like how those two police gave conflicting orders then shot, afterwards saying that the person could have just followed their orders like as if they weren't conflicting.
You know when they don't just kill the person without any pretending to be fair.
This is a great take!
@@Hans_Presto I hope you aren't being sarcastic because I really appreciate this comment.
May is such a cutie and deserves our admiration and respect
A new Nyx Fears video?? On day two of my hangover??
I didn’t really like it either but it was fun seeing mcmurray from letterkenny get his tongue ripped out
Wait what?!?!? Now I have to see
@@haniqali3 yup yup, here he is:

At least Bonnie is free now...
Literally the previous movie in this series, Jigsaw, was also about a copycat killer. Lmao. That could be okay if the stories actually mattered. Why did they need to brand this one differently, even from from Jigsaw?
I know Jigsaw has been gone for most of the series, but, like, Jigsaw the movie made *some* money, so I feel like they could’ve just made this a sequel/spinoff to that instead of pulling out the non-existent Saw bible to put in the title.
The film ending with a black cop being murdered by other cops made me think of something Greg Doucette (a defense lawyer who frequently discusses police brutality on Twitter) frequently says: "When they say blue lives matter, they don't mean the dark blue ones."
I would love a lengthy video where you spill the tea about the theatre going experience. That is definitely high up on my list of Videos of People Talking About a Random Topic for Half An Hour or Longer That I Will Watch.
They really gotta keep that cash cow mooing even though it seems like they're running out of ideas 👀 That hair color looks stunning on you btw!
like the man said, they'll keep beating this dead horse until it stops spitting out money
I thought this was such a basic mess. Not only was it unwilling to have the conversation the whole movie was supposed to be about, but it couldn't even manage to be any entertaining thriller. As usual, your breakdown was better than the movie itself.
I choose to believe that the cat behind you is the cat from Scardy Cats, and that Matt has Nyx Fears swag on their wall like sister cities but with youtube channels
I was put into a saw trap and they played this video. I escaped severely damaged, but at least I learned the important lesson of subscribing to this channel!
The Saw franchise is many things; Bloody, Confusing, Dramatic, Suspenseful, Campy, and Occasionally Inconsistent. However, if my experience in the Saw fandom has taught me anything, it’s that the series has one major thing going for it that has caused it to become beloved in many people’s hearts: Iconic Characters. In the first movie we have Adam who, although we don’t get to know him for long, has such a strong character that he is one of the top favourite characters in the eyes of many fans. There’s also Amanda, John, and Lawrence who return in the sequels causing them to become more fleshed out characters that you want to see more of. Hoffman, Strahm, Kerry, Éric Matthews, Riggs are among the recurring characters that are added on and though they are all police, they’re very distinct. They’re all their own individuals. Adam’s sarcastic and dramatic; Lawrence is cold, smart, and Jigsaw’s greatest asset; Amanda struggles with her mental health a lot and is unhealthily attached to John; John is self-righteous with a god complex, believing his morals are intrinsically correct; Hoffman is sadistic and manipulative; Strahm and Kerry are like the only people who could see through Hoffman’s BS; Eric Matthews is a corrupt cop who plants evidence and engages in police brutality; Riggs tries too hard to save everyone to his own detriment. I could go on and on for hours but you get the gist. What does Spiral have? I feel like every character falls under good cop, bad cop, or cop apologist. What the heck. Literally where’s the flavor?! I want my OG Saw dads Leigh Whannell and James Wan back :(
At first after reading this I was gonna say “iconic characters? Really?!” Then I remember how invested I am in Amanda’s story and how happy I was when they brought Dr. Gordon back and I had to pipe down. You’re right. The plotting is often absurd but the character work is on point.
Nyx, you do things for us that no human should ever have to endure. And thank you for it. You go girl, thank you for enduring the pain of the full "Saw" franchise so I don't have to rewatch any and don't have to watch spiral and have a childhood memory removed from my neural pathways by memory of that film
Trying to explain this movie to my friends and loved ones like "Bad cop saw trap, good cop bad cop, bad good cop dad cop saw trap"
I'd be curious enough to see another video on the Saw franchise as a whole, based on what you had to say here.
And while I do eventually plan on going back to movie theaters, I plan on waiting until my state hits like 90% vaccinated at the very least. I enjoy the theater experience, but I'm not willing to make the 'rona situation worse just to get back to that.
There’s a good hour or so long video on the cracked channel summarizing the entire series up to spiral. If you’re interested I mean.
I have Darren Lynn Bousman’s autograph from when I got to see The Devil’s Carnival: Alleluia! while it was on tour. This is virtually unrelated to the contents of this video but I just wanted to leave some engagement lol
Did anyone else just find the villain guy's pitched down voice was extremely comical? Gave me Carmen Winstead vibes.
"I think there are names going by the screen now..."
Yes! MY name! Right at that second! I'm going to still keep supporting your Patreon, tho! :P
why center cops as the protagonists if not to make very clear criticism, it provides such a great vantage to point things out instead of just makin a bad apples argument. Also Nice Casio Guitar Holy Shit
jigsaw might not be sane or ethical, but all of his traps usually had an out.
The scene where the cop shoots a guy like 7 times because he flipped him off is one of the funniest things I’ve seen in my entire life
Police brutality is very real but holy god the team behind saw are not the ones to fight that fight
NYX: “He’s the man behind....”
Me: “BEHIND THE SLAUGHTER!?!”
NYX:”the franchise”
I will eventually go back to the theater if for no other reason than my love of sneaking in full meals. There is something satisfying about being sitting in a movie theater and pulling out a 20" Capriotti's sandwich. Or a dozen donuts, a big bottle of ice coffee, and solo cups for the group. These are the moments I yearn for.
Was that a grown man, or just six snacks in a trenchcoat?
RIP Dreamcast Jigsaw
Omg!!! I've never been this early! I love ur videos!!
I always love hearing your thoughts on movies I will never watch. Also holy moly do I love your hair, I really wish I could rock a color like that.
Every time I heard Pigsaws voice I couldn't help but laugh. Also when he said hello it just sounded like hewwo
I could've sworn it was text to speech!
I would just like to say that I don't catch your videos very often, but when I do, they are always amazing and I enjoy them very much =) This was fun! Keep up the good work, May!
Just want to say I found your channel via this video coming up on my recs this weekend and have been having a great time binge watching you. You’re brilliant and seem like such a sweet, lovely person!
I may have loved the film enough to go see it twice, but damn these takes are spot on! It's a heavily flawed film, but I guess I just like watching people rip their fingers out of their sockets.
Pls consider a video on The Theater Experience, would love to hear your in depth thoughts on this
I’d watch that too
I was rooting for the killer, to be honest. It was pretty lukewarm otherwise.
So was I. It’s kinda hard not to given how the other characters r written. I liked Chris Rock’s character but the rest? 🤮
Man, I love the movie theater. I live in France and the big boy theater only play movies dubbed in french, so I go to this tiny cinema that plays films the way they are meant to be played and there are like 5-10 people tops even for big blockbuster movies. It is fantastic!
I love your videos! Are you going to talk about a Quiet Place 2
Another fantastic video May! I can’t even imagine the experience of a movie theatre, I yearn for the day I get to go back lol
I love the connection between the pig mask & cops, and wished that was an intentional thing in the original saw movies. I think that connection was accidental since Jigsaw just goes after anyone for arguably the littlest misstep, not just cops. Don't wanna hear you complain about cancel culture unless you're put in a Saw trap for smoking like the janitor in saw 6 & having that equated to being a corrupt cop or a racist.
Looked up the director's name and he apparently has a movie named Tension in the works Here's to hoping it's not a remake of the French movie High Tension.
Your room set up is so cool
I haven't seen it yet but I did a rewatch of all the Saw movies as well, only in reverse order to see if the constant re-writes of the lore made any sense and oh wow they do not! On the other hand that hair color is ridiculously pretty on you.
That dress is so cute (and perfect for the 105F temperatures that are right around the corner, though, as like every year, I am still in denial that it's on it's way). Convenience Stores, please make sure the slushy drinks are 79 cents for the next several months.
Mai your room is so adorable. And here I thought it would be Halloween theme. But you look like youre in your happy place.
Just saw Spiral last night and I knew something felt weird about this film and the whole 'a few bad apples' conversation it was trying to have, and I think you summed it up really well. I love your commentary and reviews, I knew you'd have a great take on this film and you never disappoint.
Love the pink omg!!! Lookin mad cute
Ur videos: serotonin
Ur hair: lush and pop aesthetic
My heart: yours
Ahh! I love your sheets! (I have the same ones lol)
Agreed with everything you said! Really hoped you would talk about this one. Also you look stunning!
I was scrolling through suggested videos and saw this and right next to it a video titled: "The only goddess Zeus fears: Nyx"
Feel like I'm going to get to know you better by watching your videos than some random mythology channel.
I wish there was a captioned gif of May’s reactions going through the director being behind the 2nd, 3rd and 4th iteration in this franchise. 😂 Such a hysterical expression! Also, love hearing her tackle this franchise and give it the thought and consideration that should have gone into the spec process of the script writing as far as its themes/overall messaging. 💜
It’s a saw movie, if you expected any profound politics in it you’re mistaken. Even SAW VI had ham fisted writing on the nose, subtlety is not the SAW series strength
Your amazing, i love your videos
Thank you for the video, and for showing us your Casio guitar!
I'd love for you to do a video on how the Saw movies are about insurance (sometimes). People keep trying to talk to me about them, but I've only seen the first one ;__;
Gosh Missed NYX!
UR PLUSHIES ARE SO CUTE ALSO I LOVE YOUR HAIR :]
In regard to the traps, it also defeats the point of the original Saw that about 3/5 traps were "unbeatable"...
"walk my happy ass to the theater" oh honey.. this movie will change that...
Love some fresh out of the oven hot May hot takes
I really loved it, but I was pretty tipsy so I expect that contributed significantly
Actually, that might be the ideal way to see this movie. You were on to something.
Imma be real with you
I zoned out this entire video because i just find your voice relaxing
I genuinely missed movie theaters. I saw the Demon Slayer movie last month (vaccinated 💖) and I had a blast!
Ah May. You have a great sense of humor. This was great ty
It feels very individual, like it’s one guy with a vendetta, not like it has a problem with like systemic issues with the police
would love for you to do a whole saw retrospective. like that way those two weeks might be a little less wasted? idk
Happy pride, mother of all things spooky and dark!!♡♡
I think another somewhat solid answer in my mind for 10:39 would be that the Spiral Killer wants these cops to believe they have a hope of living to some extent only to be faced with pretty much the harsh reality that they can’t actually do the task. I haven’t seen the movie but I’m going to presume most of the cops get killed off in a similar fashion of having an almost unwinabble task to complete. The bigger reason the Spiral killer would even do that may be due to just a sick and twisted sense of justice, which could make some sense of message overall, not a good one, but it would make something
Need a video on the theatre experience honestly
Im sorry all I can think about is how the red imp plushie in the background behind the green dinosaur is like that spooky red darth maul face behind the guy in Insidious
Omg I 💕 the red! Like strawberry shortcake but better! Soooooo pretty ma
holy moly, i didnt notice that the spiral trailer (or one of them) has the kid's laughing or whatever sound effects from the fnaf movie.
I never liked any of these films, the first one was enough for me.
But May, how traumatic was the theater? I have lived so much of my life in the dark, watching all manner of bizarreness, I have truly missed the experience. Was it worth it for you? I'm vaccinated but I'm not sure it will be fun.
Idk Spiral is pretty good with gunslinger or royal guard. Its shots are slow but if you shoot then block with rg the style meter can rise no problem, same if you use gunslinger. Its neutral gunslinger move is also good for juggling, kinda like Artemis but you dont have to charge it. Its also the best option for dealing with Wraths, cause even on DMD it only takes like 2 shots from a long distance to take them out safely.
Anyway I just think that theres more meaningful discussion to have about a gun from DMC3 than the movie that shares the same name.
I do agree that it kind of ruins the point to have them be unwinnable, but I mean with Amanda in the 3rd, the original jigsaw was upset that Amanda had been creating unwinnable traps, so it's not the first time the series has done that thing. That's also why I only watched the first 2 Saw movies because as soon as I got to that part in 3, I stopped with the series.
Darren just did the Saw sequels to get to make Repo, and it kinda shows. I mostly only stick it out through the Saw films for the creative kills, ngl.
Aw yeah may time, perfect video to watch at 2 am
Just when we needed her
It's not a Saw movie if people don't have an opportunity to escape from the traps.
oh my god i'm fully going to show my hairdresser your hair and be like. please. this vibe thank you
Having only watched the 1st saw movie and getting bord halfway through Spiral fits right in idk
Watching the entirity of the Saw series!
😳😳😳😳👋👋👋👋
I love your reviews but I'm gonna watch Spiral online. then my first visit back to Cinema end of this week 3rd June to see A Quiet Place 2. YES!
I'm already a bit sad to see Quiet place 2 in a lock down 'environment' though.
I saw the first one at a packed cinema. No one touched popcorn from start to finish. The fear. The silence was a huge part of that cinematic experience. I am not going to feel that at a socially distanced cinema ☹️☹️
I would actually watch a video about what you think of the movie theater experience
unrelated to everything this video talked about (it was a very good video, though): what's the synth song that plays in some of the older videos on her channel? it slaps entirely too hard
I would genuinely love to hear a review about Repo from you. It's personally my favorite musical but fuck it's weird.
Hi I'm back after finally watching Spiral and wowee, it was somethin lol. They were def trying to make a profound statement without being too "radical" which just... shit or get off the pot, ya know? Also Saw VI is my favorite in the series, there are some really great performances and the traps are iconic, plus there's an actually compelling narrative. I'd be super interested in hearing your thoughts on the series as a whole!
DG Casio electric guitar 😍
Listening to a summary of Spiral makes me want to watch Last Shift again. Also Repo! is good times. Love to the Saw Boy(s?) repay their first gig with a passion project.
Off topic, but your dress is so cute!
dinosaur makes a return cameo in this video :D
Love ya June!!!
