The worst thing about The Girl Next Door is definitely that all that stuff happened to a real girl, Sylvia Likens... I hope she's resting in peace, she truly deserves it after everything she went through.

No, the worst thing about this case was that the perpetrators, the Baniszewski family, never showed remorse. The mother, Gertrude Baniszewski, received a relatively light sentence and feigned innocence pretending to not remember what she's done due to her being "under the influence of her medication". All lived/are living normal lives afterwards and that was truly the sickening part to me. It is one of the most upsetting extensively documented crimes to ever be committed and I hope Sylvia and her sister rests in peace

It kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Seems disrespectful to write a book heavily based on the suffering and misery a real life human being went through

The even worser worst thing is...if you've read the book it's pretty graphic when it comes to describing the ways she is tortured and abused..but Ketchum actually LEFT OUT THE WORST STUFF (out of respect for the Likens family) so it actually gets so much worse...if you google "Sylvia Likens Crime" it takes you to the wikipedia page that gives the full details, and it is one of the most disturbing things I have ever read.

I skimmed through _120 Days of Sodom_ out of morbid curiosity. I am grateful that I do not remember what I read, because it gave me a _shit ton_ of psychic damage. It was like reading the Necronomicon. But what disturbed me the most was that it was written as if it all came from personal experience.

Exactly, I don’t get why it’s not on the top of every list of disturbing books. It was the only book I could only get halfway through.
It’s full of grotesquely sexual depictions of children being raped, molested, tortured, murdered, and being forced into disgusting and excruciating acts for adults’ pleasure, and reads more like an extremely disturbing erotic novel than a horror book. I have no doubt that everything marquis de Sade wrote was arousing to him as he was well known as a sadist and rapist in his time.
I’m shocked such detailed and sexualized depictions of child rape and abuse in a novel are even legal, let alone considered a literary classic.

WARNING, SPOILERS: Let's Go Play at the Adams' is a sadistic romp pretending to deal with disturbing-but-necessary themes such as the cruelty of children, the relationship of torturer and victim, the power imbalance inherent in adult-child dynamics, peer pressure, etc. It doesn't deal deeply with any of those issues, but it utilizes them as props to assault readers with a story of torture, r@pe, cruelty, murder, and impunity crowned by the five young psychopaths finding a scapegoat they kill so as to successfully get off the hook for murdering a woman. I cannot see anyone "enjoying" this novel except those who get all tingly at sadism. The author fortunately died shortly after the publication of his "masterpiece," so he didn't have a chance to regale us with more samples of his "genius." He did not write any other fiction, as far as I know, so that is another plus. Sadism has always existed among humans and, at times, the novel reads like a cheap approximation de Sade's worst excesses, or like the novelization of one of the many violent, graphic adult movies from the 1970's that, in the next decade, became impossible to produce and film legally. Those adult films were honest, at least. Nobody pretended they were adding anything to the 7th Art, or to thespian nuances, dialogue intricacies, or juxtapositions of story arcs. Let's Go Play at the Adams' plays at being literature and, as usual, plenty of readers and critics took the bait and have elevated this sad, angry bag of vomit into something "respectable." It isn't. It's just the last, cruel swan song from an author who seems to have written it because he just couldn't bring himself to live it. If so, we are fortunate.

I don’t understand why you made this series. You clearly haven’t read a single one of these books, almost all of these ‘descriptions’ are just story synopses from tropedia. Often, with the way you’re pronouncing the names of acclaimed authors, their characters, or just words to describe their works (I recall you calling one work “existentionalist”?), I begin question if you’re someone who even wishes to read any of them? I’m not claiming that I have read all of these, several I had never even heard of, but I would never take it upon myself to introduce people to an entire genre of books when my entire understanding of them is from a wiki reading on the right hand side of the camera...

Okay just found your channel because it was suggested to me, as I watch a lot of iceberg videos, especially horror ones. Now yes, reading every book on an iceberg would be a lot, but I feel like maybe you should have taken the time to read them rather than just reading a description of the book that can be found online. There's something missing in this iceberg in terms of making it watchable imo, like when I was a disturbing movie iceberg I know the reviewer actually watched the movies, can describe scenes in detail, and give their own opinion on the content. This on the other hand is simply reading these 'shocking' descriptions' with no nuance or insight into the subject at all. I'd suggest that maybe next time you do an iceberg, you should go through and explore the content more in depth, take the time to do more research besides the basic plot summary such as exploring the author's other work, reading other reviews for the book, and lastly at least skimming the books you're reviewing. If you watched or read a movie review, you wouldn't want someone to just describe the plot with no further analysis would you? I'm just saying this as an observer, because I was actually excited for an iceberg like this but I couldn't even finish this video because the way you're reading these descriptions lack any real thought behind them.I'd say just keep this in mind, no hate man just wanted to give some thoughts!
