Maybe because Dabo attended and played for Alabama ? He’s definitely done a ton for Clemson, no question about it !
For me it’s because so much of my family besides my youngest daughter and I attended Clemson.

No team, since the major recruiting sites (like Rivals, 247, on3) have been around, has won a national championship without being in the top 10 a few years in recruiting. Dabo got us here doing things his way, and yea the game has changed, but as a Clemson fan (born 86') I honestly never thought we would have 1 let alone multiple championships in my lifetime. His way is growing young men not football players, he doesn't want to use the portal because, I believe, he sees those men as unloyal; you made a pledge... honor it. I can honestly say I'd prefer no one else... ever. He's brought more than we ever could've imagined. I grew up 10 minutes from Clemson... there's nothing there or at least there wasn't before Dabo. Just getting high caliber players is a feat in its self. And let me pose this question, who are you going to get to come in and do a better job? Who says something doesn't change with the portal and all the teams that oriented themselves in that direction are left at a new disadvantage. The man wants to do things his way, the respectable way, and yea that doesn't always culminate in victories but to not believe in the man makes me believe you don't understand that he truly cares about the future of his players as people rather than just a meat factory that most of these other high profile colleges are. Proud to be a Tiger.

You are spot on! Dabo and Kath have done more for Clemson than any other football coach at Clemson and that includes Coach Ford. The goal for Dabo is not winning football championships every year. He is goal is to compete for national championships but do so with young men who are going to leave Clemson with a degree and be unbelievable leaders in whatever the choose to do with the rest of their lives. I thank Dabo for sticking to the culture of the program and building something that Clemson fans and graduates can be proud of.

I actually believe that instead of Dabo evolving that college football wil re-evolve into a scenario where Dabo is more successful again. I don't believe he just fades away. Currently college football and NIL is not sustainable. As things rapidly evolve it could reshape in a manner where Dabo's philosophy and player centered loyalty pays divedends.

I may be totally off base ... but it looks like the lack of use of the portal would affect both sides of the ball. Right? Clemson D is still strong. Clemson O is the problem the last few years. I point to Streeter the first time OC at D1 level, Austin 1st time O-line coach, Grisham 1st time WR coach, Spiller 1st time RB coach. They are not developing players (2) 5* QB's and (1) 4*, and they all regressed. IOP, bad coaching hires on Offense, not the portal.

I have followed Clemson for 25 years now. I love how Dabo coaches and how he built Clemson. I do not want him to change his principles. A large portion of the Clemson fan base fills the same as I do. The minority is just loud. I Strongly believe that Dabo will go on another run. The down years at Clemson has more to do with losing a LARGE portion of the coaches at the program. Dabo does not do things fast. That means it will take a 3 or 4 years to get the coaching back to where he wants it. Once that Happens Clemson will be back.

If Clemson doesn't come close to winning a title with Dabo again, he will be seen as a great coach from the 2010s that refused to change and he will completely fall out of any consideration for top-all times lists, probably
