So I'm building a shed in my back yard. I kept stripping screws because I had cheapo Ryobi bits (and I have a bad habit of not keeping it perfectly straight) so I bought these Ryobi diamond bits because of this video. At first it was a GAME CHANGER... And then after 20-30 screws the coating wears off. Then I think they were just as bad (if not worse) than regular cheap Ryobi bits. So if you're on a budget and using a drill or lightly impacted they really are awesome. Just know that once the "diamond grip" comes off, game over folks.
This is the real info no gimmicks. I watched a video by project farm about all these bits and they put them through rigorous testing and the Milwaukee shockwave bits showed almost no damage at the end. They were the clear winner. And that's what matters, how long they last without getting rounded and chipped, not if they can stick to a screw when they're brand new!
Also something else to consider is the orientation of the first screw vs the second and third. Assuming their just Phillips head screws and not a Phillip Robertson combo. Does it matter if the star looks like an “x” or a “+”
Cam out was never a built in feature or design. It was discovered after the fact as an added bonus. It was however designed to be self-centering like a Robertson.
Also I’ve found and I imagine I’m not alone, manufacturer bits are made shaped for screws every so slightly different and the same goes for the impressions in screws. Resulting in different brand bits that work better or worse depending on the brand of screw that you use.
Wife and I were installing a fence and had one of the Ryobi Diamond Grit phillips tips break off inside the screw. Just snapped. The rest worked fine. Went out and bought some DeWalt tips after 😅
Hello again Vince and Vcg Thank you for another Great. Okay I am impressed. But how does it work? Will it remove/install say a hundred screws? With no cam out? In other words, is it worth buying? Again thank you
Yo Vince. Long time/first time. I have never been in a situation where I have had to stop working in the middle of driving a screw and leave my driver hanging. That being said, is the fit of these bits that much better, or is it just a coating that will wear off over time?
It's called diamond grip so I think it's safe to assume it's got some diamond dust in the mix and that is what's giving it the extra non-slip grip. IMO
Come on down to the Bitty Twister! If you can find a better driver bit - SCREW IT! I'm really impressed with these, gonna have to replace some but drivers just because haha
I am a Milwaukee fan through and through but my bits of choice are the RSC Powerdrive bits never ever had a better Makita XPS bits are a close 2nd but I am excited to try these Ryobi Diamond tips. (Alarm Tech Installation Field)
Love the video, but I need to mention that the test you did and the Ryobi test is not exactly the same. At first there was a lot of jerking motion in your twisting device. This back and forth motion is probably why the driver falling down. Looking at the Video again, you can see that the Ryobi jig is a lot smoother. Your third test was a lot smoother and reacted more like the Ryobi demo. Good job on going above and beyond with your testing and showing us the latest tools we "need"!
I recently tried wiha bits, assembled over 24 grills, patio set and various smaller items (about a dozen) and it still bites screws enough I have to forcably remove from screw at times. I’m normally a Bosch bit user.
Before you made the second test, I was going to point out that when you rotated the block, it was bouncing, and the Ryobi display was smooth. Then you did your own smooth rotation and it made the bit hold.
OK, not gonna lie. That's pretty impressive. I'm going to have to buy one to test them out. Also, the "just the tip" is so sophomoric, but I chuckle EVERY time! LOL. EDIT: HD charges the same for 12 or 22 bit pack. For $9 and change.
It would be awesome to put the ryobi bit against spiders macblue driving bits. As an electrician I found out spiders bits are the best bits on the planet. They beat out every other brand on the market
What about Hart? I remember a video you did a couple years ago where you hung the Hart driver in a #2 Philips screw with the impact rated bit set. 5/26/2020
Definitely watching From Dusk Till Dawn tonight! Salma Hayek in that movie!!😎🙌. Love this kind of content brother. Definitely keep them coming. Much love VCG crew
Definitely need to see different fasteners. I have Dewalt, Makita, and Milwaukee bits. Really like all of them. I'll need your further testing to see if I'll add those Ryobi ones. Thanks Vince!
My shirt has been ordered-that was over the top funny. Good Testing Vince!!! The smoother movement of the tester was better than being jumpy. What if you put the screws in an X pattern versus a + plus pattern? Do you think the outcome would be better or the same of all the bits? Only the Bitty Tester will know!!
I appreciate it Ron, you are the first to order, thank you! I can honestly say I’ve never seen a bit grip so well, I don’t think the other bits can compete in that regard no matter which direction the screws are but we can always do further testing my friend!
I want to see the test with a different screw brand. Rememebr how well the makita xps bits held when you first did their test? Use them screws and run the test again.
This could be good and bad. Yes less cam out, but if you're using an extension driver bit, how often will it pull the bit from it? Would like to see some more tests done with these accessories
wrap your bit in tape, nothing crazy just a spin or 2 to hold it to the extension. That's what I do as an electrician- cant have bits falling in places they shouldn't be.
Hey Vince I was wondering if you could make a video on the best way to organize the rigid job site boxes for tools pack outs are no good where I work too easy to break into

I suppose if I ever needed to hang my driver by its bit, these Ryobi bits might be useful. That said, I have found that Dewalt bits fit better than any others. I am a Milwaukee tool user, but the Dewalt bits just fit better and last longer than any of the others I have tried. (I think I have used them all) Thx.

Other than sheetrock, I dont understand why anyone would use Phillips drivers. Torx was the best thing to ever happen to exterior screws and If they had been around sooner I might not have had arthritis removed from my shoulder when I was 42. You don't even have to push to drive that 3 inch screw with a torx.
The question is: is this demonstration really a feature that makes a bit better? I can see myself struggling to take te bit of the screw after driving it, pulling back and loosing the tip on the screw and pulling only the adapter back. Tight fit is a good thing but only to prevent cam-out, Idc if you can hang a driver on the bit if it breaks under high torque
I agree, as I mentioned above. I use magnetic bits and replace them when they get worn out. When I need to hold my impact driver someplace, I don't leave it in a random screw, I use my Spider Tool Holster.

Ryobi has been killing it just a bit.

Gotta love the success of this channel!! Keep up the great work, VCG!! 👍👍
Thanks Bronx, We appreciate that!
Try wera Diamond coated bits.
Great Video!
Test the Ryobi bits under heavy load similar to the Milwaukee matrix bit that failed
Good idea, and they do have #3 Phillips with diamond grit so that'll be a really high load!
Just watched this and have one question. How strong was the magnets 🧲 on each bit ?
That was crazy!!!! Vince, have you look at or use Spyder Co bits?

Alot of companies have diamond coated bits. Wera makes some nice diamond impact bits.

if you look at the Ryobi, the bit looks more like sandpaper it's rough. the other bits are smooth like glass, there's nothing to bite into the screw.
