I love that the podcast episodes are named after the episodes of the show and how we as an audience learn absolutely nothing about them lol
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
wrong we learn rob had stomach problems
Dennis and Mac go to abortion protests to pick up girls lol

The reason why "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is such a great title is because, combined with the soundtrack, makes it seem as though you're gonna watch a old-timey sitcom in a quaint town with charming folks.
This is exactly why it works
I busted up laughing when Glenn is like "No one wants to share the small bag of chips" because Fat Mac had the big bag and was still throwing an absolute fit. It was hilarious.
"Jerks" is such a stupid name for a show that I could totally see the gang coming up with that Idea. Perfect
there is a german sitcom with that exact name and similar concept, the main actors are playing selfish dick versions of themselves
Except they aren’t Jerks lmao this is a stupid idea
Also you think these guys deserve a stupid title? Lmao you’re fuckin off buddy stop commenting
@@Editionsz Sure man, just the creators and vast majority of the audience understand the characters as absolute jerks, but you live in your own reality champ
@@1882osr
The thing is, I don’t think these characters are jerks either. Jerk is kind of an understatement when you look at some of the fucked up shit they do. Jerks would be putting it lightly, these characters can be the scum of the Earth at times.
I love the title because 1) it's a mouthful and that by itself is hilarious and 2) it sounds optimistic and cheerful, when in reality any optimism in the show is from the perspective of sociopathic narcissists who are constantly bickering with each other, themselves, and others. So it's sort of subversive.
And when you want to say it shorthand "Sunny" and "Always Sunny" work just fine for anyone who's watched the show.
Speak for yourself.I only allow it to be referred to as,It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.Im a fan,and I do not allow the shorthand. Please don't assume that just because you're a fan if something, that EVERYONE else is going to be just like you.We are all different people, with different likes and dislikes.
I also like it because it adds mystery to what the show is about. People were telling me you should watch It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and I was like WHAT is that about? Wasn't disappointed. I don't think I'd be interested in a show called Jerks
@@jeffdroog idk man, if we got into a situation where we found out we were both fans of the show and I said "Oh, you like Always Sunny too?" And you were like "Ahem" *pushes up glasses* "Actually it's called It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, not Always Sunny." I'd be like "Oh, yeah, cool..." And then leave.
@@bodkie That's my point exactly. We are different people.Being fans of the same show doesn't come with any obligation of having anything else in common. So,speak for yourself lol.
@@jeffdroog I really hope you don’t talk to people in person like this
Dee being kind of normal for the first season is something they also talk about in the first episode. I actually don’t have a problem with it. She starts off as a surrogate of the audience. She’s just constantly exhausted by everything you guys do. As she learns to be crazy the audience also learn to be crazy and lean into it for the fun. Good stuff.
Everytime I go back to season one I am reminded how big of a swing you guys took with the first few episodes. First Racism, then Abortion, and up next....underage drinking.🤣
Can't forget cancer!
And gun violence
This was really surprising to me too. What's more surprising is how well they handled each topic. Every single episode in Season 1 is like this, Racism, Abortions, Underage Drinking, Cancer, Child Molestation (and false accusations). There's no way a show could do that now with the way the world is.
@@monkfishy6348 The reason the world is the way it is now is that no one does it.
I got caught up on the series due to the episode where Sweat Dee asks a psychiatrist to tell her she's good.
This was the first episode I watched. I randomly flipped through the channel and caught it when Dennis went to an abortion rally to pick up women. It was such a stupid setup that I was hooked.
They should thank Seinfeld
was hooked once devito came on

Minor bipolar is called Cyclothymia and it is very real! It’s marked by less extreme shifts in mood, hypomania instead of mania. It can be a risk factor for developing bipolar
just a small addition: cyclothymia requires not only hypomanic experiences, but also depressive ones. and "experiences" because the symptoms don't meet the criteria for actual hypomanic and depressive episodes
I didn't start watching until a few seasons in, but I was aware of It's Always Sunny from the start because it was advertised heavily during The Simpsons. I must have heard Mac say "just to get a base" a hundred times before I finally watched the show.
I've often relied on old comedy faves to lift my mood when I'm feeling down, but while other shows' ability to cheer me up tends to wane as they age, It's Always Sunny still never fails to make me feel better after all these years. I think the magic is in using a satirical take on the classic upbeat sitcom (that music!) to have sociopathic characters deal with big complicated issues. The title is a terrible title, from a marketing perspective anyway, but it perfectly reflects the way the show thrives within the tension between its content and its form. I love how each episode resolves its story without resolving the issues it raises. In fact, episodes often wrap up with the characters describing exactly how intractable the issues at hand actually are.
I think that it cheers me up so reliably because it doesn't try to make me forget my problems, nor does it try to motivate me to fix my problems. It just lets me know that I can handle whatever it is that I'm dealing with -- probably better than The Gang would (even if my own gang also sometimes melts down over something as insignificant as the thickness of a lime wedge). Ultimately, the show is about acceptance.
Just to get a base. Lol same bro
I found Sunny when my depression hit in my early 20s. The nihilistic humor was and is extremely helpful.
I really relate to your comment. It’s a show that still helps me when I feel down. Glad it brings the laughter to you too.
saaaaaame bruh. I binged the first 12 seasons as I was recovering from a mental breakdown and losing my faith. It helped bridge the gap from one worldview to another in a big way.
I just started and finished all 15 seasons.
It helped (and still is) with my depression and all my other psychological b.s
everyone lost their faith and got depressed during the Bush years
@@slowfuse I lived through the Bush administration amongst a few more, and I never thought that at my 31 years of age that I’d be surrounded by such beautiful people.
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is the perfect title and here's why....
Instantly you realize that all these characters live in fantasy worlds in their own heads. And they all treat each other as NPCs in this fantasy world. I love that in the episode where it's suppose to be a standard past clip show, it's remembered COMPLETELY different than it was presented earlier in the show, proving all these characters are living in their own little worlds. And in their worlds, it's always sunny in Philadelphia. And Dennis was super cool and had an affair with the hot librarian. And Charlie and Mac were super popular. And it's always sunny in Philadelphia.
It's the perfect title because it's a fantasy, just like how the characters themselves live life. As a fantasy.
Because it's never sunny in Philadelphia. But to the gang, it is. And they all convince each other it is, which in a way, brings a warm sunshine feeling, right? So maybe it really Always IS sunny in Philadelphia for our characters.
well put, this is mostly how I interpret it as well but in your words!
They did a clip show episode and this is exactly how it turned out. They couldn't figure what was reality and what was their imagination. Frank had long hair and long legs and so on.
Picturing present day rickety cricket hammered, pissing in his own dresser is fkn great!!! 😂😂😂
The way you guys you talk about the beginning of the show (not being writers, and how the conversation about limes and thinking 'that's the show') is almost identical to listening to Seinfeld and Larry David talk about the early seasons of Seinfeld. TBH, Seinfeld also could have been called 'Jerks' at the time.
I love Always Sunny. This is my go to show that I turn on all the time on Hulu and just re-watch season after season. Always puts me in a better mood.

@@yourhomesliceishere you’re right! Two very different things. No one said otherwise - if Glenn is Bipolar that is news to me.
Literally grew up with this It's Always Sunny, and it shaped my sense of humor pretty dramatically. I'm so glad that you guys are still making it, and that ya decided to make a podcast :D
This is so incredible. Im so happy you guys are doing this.
Most people I know mostly refer to the show as "Always Sunny"
Or just “Sunny”
@@arigold3333 Too vague.
It’s always Sunny has always been my comfort show. NOW I have a comfort podcast! Always make me laugh, love the gang ♥️
I agree a thousand percent
watching this has made me realize how similar their humor in real life comes into their characters in the show.
The title goes well with the theme music, which sounds like a nice family sitcom from the 50s. Then the show is the exact opposite of all of that, which is hilarious.
it's the only show I can bring up with my friends and know we're all going to be in tears laughing by the end of it.. so much gold. Thanks for the podcast stuff guys!
Honestly, I avoided this show like the plague for years, changing the channel whenever it was coming on, because the title was so terrible I assumed the show wouldn't possibly interest me. Comedy was in a pretty wild place in the 2000s, and there was a lot of stuff that other people were into that I just didn't get. Kinda just assumed the show was something like that.
Ended up watching dvds of season 1 with a buddy, while working our 12-hour shifts in the military together. It's been about 10 years, since then, and I've seen every season multiple times.
When I check hulu, and find a new season on there, it is the highlight of my day.
Honestly I think the title "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is very memorable and perfect for the type of comedy that comes from this show. The ONLY possible "downside" I could see actually stems from my own experience.. I'm from Philly, born and raised, and so back in the first 2 or 3 seasons all of my friends would tell me how hilarious this show is and I thought they only liked it bc finally there was a show about Philly lmao so I didn't actually start watching until season 3 or 4 and I immediately loved it. And ngl it is pretty fucking cool that it's set in Philly.
season 15 should have "the gang makes a tv show" where they make jerks, bring it full circle
They could at least try to become social media stars. "The Gang Influences"
*16
Too close to Seinfeld doing the episodes of them making a "show about nothing" on NBC.
This is like an episode of always sunny in itself hahah
Every time I hear Glenn talk all I can think about is the radio show episode.
Dead airrrrr
Glenn talks about cigarettes at the end there the way he talks about crack during the fat mac season "oh dude, you, are, going, to love it"
Even though I've watched all of these on other channels uploading your stuff, I'm rewatching them here so you get the views, as is fair and right. Fantastic series.
I am so happy I found this tonight!!
IASIP helped me through some dark, dark moments in life and I'm in a hard one right now.
~ Thank you, Jabroni's ~
This is the only podcast I am willing to take time to listen to
i feel the same. i always have difficulties connecting with a podcast, but i love to hear these guys talk
100% me too man
It's the only one my attention span can stay on track with
Yep this is the first one that I was like "okay I'll ACTUALLY check out that podcast" I read an article yesterday about how A. It existed and B. Was amazing, so I immediately tuned in
There is a more "mild" form of bipolar disorder called bipolar type 2
them talking about how they like people talking about how the show helped their depression when i put on the podcast after a particularly bad period of migraines that left me with depression 🥺 you guys do help, a lot
Glenn listening to aha makes so much sense when you think about the music Dennis likes lmao
Glenn’s alway sleepy....... must be all those hummingbirds!
These podcasts are helping with my current situation so shoutout you guys and thank you for doing this for the fans!
This is awesome, glad you guys are re watching the series and then talking about it, such a great idea!
Sunny can _always_ pull you out of a funky mood!!
Thanks for the laughs and good times fellas!
glenn i feel the same as you ALL THE TIME get bored so easily always tired not 'high' highs but very 'low' lows
I started watching the show in high school when I smoked a crap ton of weed and stayed home all day watching every episode on Netflix when it was on there. I was still too socially unaware to understand exactly what was so funny about it, that it was satire making fun of the worst people. I just found it hilarious that they were able to get away with the shit that they did and I silently aspired to be so confident in being completely oblivious to how others are affected by your actions. I didn't have many friends in HS but the gang was always there for me to make me giggle while I was stoned and alone. Thank you.
what Glenn is describing at the end is bipolar II disorder. Source: I have it
The depression, sex, booz and cigarettes talk are living up my dead serotonin!
As a norwegian I'm just happy we had some impact on something. So on behalf of A-ha: You're welcome. Not talked to Morten Harket about this, but I'm sure he'd agree.
“This is CRAYZIEEEE” 💀
I think the show is honestly like lightning in a bottle in how all these weird impossibilities came together to make this weird bizarro sitcom and that’s truly what makes it refreshing and incredible
You guys are amazing! Your first season was Top Notch! Thank you for creating such a masterpiece!
"now you want a sip of my fanta too? Get fucked" idk why that's so hilarious to me but I laughed for at least 2 full minutes💀
The title discussion it's funny because in Spain the show it's literally called 'Jerks in Philadelphia'
Honestly I'm glad you stuck with the name
I cannot believe they think It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a bad title. Now, I'll admit that I have a great love for long, un-catchy nonsensical titles (Emo and Metalcore bands of a certain period tended to do that a lot with song names and I adore all of them), but to me it's such a perfect title for this show. "Jerks" is probably the _correct_ name for a show that's intended to be the "anti-Friends," but it's just too on-the-nose, too obviously snarky. Much like the extremely upbeat and out-of-date music the show uses for transitions, the innocent to the point of corny title creates the perfect dissonance with the frequently dark and mean-spirited content. It's just so different from the stock sitcom naming of "this one's all about Jerry Seinfeld - we'll call it Seinfeld. This one's about a modern family - we'll call it Modern Family."
this podcast is awesome, you guys are the best. I'm listening to this instead of my Luther Vandross mix tape, which says a lot
You guys have at times virtually kept me alive during my depression. I honestly not sure where I would be without you
Maybe it's b/c the show is inseparable from the name to me now, but I'm glad they went with IASIP instead of Jerks.
Absolutely love this podcast and always sunny in philadelphia ! Love from Brighton UK!
Around the @10:00 mark Charlie thinks they are talking about batons when they are saying buttons in a odd way. Even once he knows it's buttons he thinks it's buttons in the shape of batons. This why I love these guys.
Bipolar type 2 doesn't get as high but the lows are there, and Glenn's rationale is the exact same I used that kept me from getting the diagnosis for ages
The gang stopping talking about the show and speaking about how much they like cigarettes is an episode in itself
Perfect fukin timing gang! Just finished watching the entire catalog through again for the 10th time! Lol “Mac Kills his Dad” is by far the funniest episode
Glenn: you sound more ADHD than bipolar. ADHD has high highs and low lows, plus you can’t engage and everything is boring
That David Hornsby incident literally happened to me about 13 years ago!!! Drunk at a Karaoke bar called Fat Louie's, that served pint-sized Long Island Ice Teas! Went home, woke up in the middle of the night to my girlfriend at the time yelling at me to stop peeing in my sock drawer! In an unrelated incident, I also shat the bed twice! Suffice it to say, that woman was a saint!
fats never disappoints.
Fuck I'm like Glenn with smoking where no matter how many times I quit the craving never fully goes away and everytime I relapse its cause I think "Fuck it this will probably be gross, I'll just prove to myself I dont wanna smoke" then it tastes like magic, the herbal cigarettes sound gross though. Also as a fellow manic depressive sunny has definitely helped me cope and I agree about not wanting to leave the manic side behind.
I am two episodes into this podcast (clearly) after planning on listening to it for a while. I expected Behind The Scenes info but instead I'm just googling celebrity names so i know who they're smoking and working out next to. Worth it.
"Thumbs down, she does not want to be exposed like we are" - that changed with time
lol i used to work on HBO Vice Principals and Bill Murray was exactly that actor that was elusive and would never show up. I was Bill’s stand-in and for a month and a half (for the opening scene of the entire series) he was slated to be on set and we would print his name on the call-sheet/sides and because of him never showing up, the majority of S1 had to be shot out of sequence.
I’d like to thank y’all on behalf of all the Sunny fans out there. I’m 16 and I’ve been watching IASIP for several years now, and I’ve binged the whole series numerous times, especially during the quarantine. I was home alone all day, every day, for over a year, as my parents and adult sister were at work while school was out. I was battling with some pretty severe insomnia, anxiety, and depression, as well as something that pretty closely resembled schizophrenia. All of that plus the ADHD meant that I really needed something to latch onto in order to stay afloat, and It’s Always Sunny was that one thing I could depend upon. It got me through some really rough times, and I can’t thank you all enough. (Although, it was a little spooky when the internet was down and I thought all of the characters were staring at me while the show was buffering, but that’s besides the point.) You’ve created so much more than a TV show; you’ve created something that brings people into a world other than their own. Even taking a vacation can be taxing, because it has implications on your life back home, and it requires you to stay present in your surroundings. To truly escape reality - which is exactly what so many people need these days - you need to be put into an entirely separate world, but that’s not an easy feat within our modern lives. The ability that the IASIP team has to immerse the viewer into a world that’s so void of reality and yet realistic enough to facilitate said immersion is incredible, and through this you’ve helped more people than you can realize, and to an extent that is farther than you can imagine. In a world where the side effects of most antidepressants include suicidal thoughts and tendencies, your efforts have been able to support me through the trials of finding the right one (and trust me, I don’t need any help from my meds in the suicidal tendencies department, so I owe you my life in a very real way). I love all of you, stay safe, and take care of yourself. (P.S. as someone who has struggled with substance abuse issues and has family members who’ve had even worse experiences, I know how easy it is to turn to the bottle, but daily alcohol consumption isn’t good for anyone, and things will only get worse with age. 44 isn’t old by any means, but it’s old enough that even an in-shape forty-something body won’t be able to effectively cope with that rate of alcohol intake for long in most cases. The drinking plus the cigarettes in your younger years can easily lead to throat cancer, among a litany of other issues. I’m sure you know all of this, but I just want you to keep in mind that sexy drinking is still drinking, and there are people who care about you and want you to take care of yourself. I’ve never been to Philly, but I don’t think the gang would be able to find a gay Irishman quite the same caliber as Mac, so I don’t know what I’d do if I lost him.) Sorry for the rant, and thank you again.
After listening to this, the perfect Airplane quote sums it up. "Guess I picked the wrong day to quit smoking"
I remember it took my a few episodes to get the show. It was just so different and I remember they released them 2 at a time and somebody told me to sit through both and promised I'd be laughing by the end. I've been a fan ever since.
charlie: "this is crrazzzzyyy"
Me: omg he did the thing!!
If this show was called jerks I would’ve never watched it.
jerks would not be fitting at alllllll. Its always sunny is *chefs kiss* perfect
They smoked real cigarettes for the filming of Mindhunter. Holt McCallany, who plays Bill Tench, is smoking real cigarettes in all of those scenes... and he's NOT a smoker in real life! That is fucking dedication.
I don't know why you guys are so hard on the first season. It was a little rough but that's what gave it character. The only valid criticism for it is Dee's character isn't quite right yet.
I had a really bad trip the one and only time I did mushrooms. It was New Year’s Eve and I was snowed in and decided to watch sunny, a show that normally makes me feel a sense of comfort and familiarity, and it deeply disturbed me. I couldn’t watch it for more than maybe 5 minutes lol
Long time viewer of the show short time commenter,This is great just real talk
Spencer is Meredith’s son on the office! Why is no one saying this!
I’ve always loved the title. It’s so unique and out there. Just like the show 😊
The broken arm thing reminds me of Viggo breaking his toe in Lord of the Rings lol. Full commitment lol
The title sets the pace for the show. If it had been jerks no one would have watched it. Now people say "Did you last nights episode of Sunny?" And they know what you're talking about. And if they don't you Say "Sunny in Philly" and if they still don't know you play them the pilot. That's what hooked me. You guys care way too much about what other people think of you now.
Charlie you good fellow, when you had 11 seasons out I had invested the equivalent of 55 seasons. Being how many times I’ve rewatched always sunny. Ty x

"He loves Mexicans" great liners in this episode
"They're still out there Crunchin', yes?"

They knew really that people would call the show Always Sunny in the end and miss out it's in Philadelphia
i mean ive gotten to a point where im just calling it Sunny lmfao
Spencer was also Merediths son in The Office and he had the same personality/attitude.
"Ryan Gosling playing YOU? Ridiculoouussss."
i think the title for the show really works! its because the show is mostly dark humor until it starts raining, and thats when it has the most heartfelt and genuine moments (mac finds his pride & the gang carries a corpse up a mountain)
Getting crunchy hurt my side 😂 5:34
"Jerks" really isn't fitting but "Jabronies" would've been...although y'all hadn't come up with that word usage yet in the series. 😆 ❤ 🌞 🎥
