      I had a handful of sleep paralysis incidents in my life (haven't had for a while, thank God), but yeah. Someone who never had one just can't understand how real they feel. Because you are fully conscious. It's just unreal crap happening around you. The worst part is, when you realize you can't move. It was actually with the first time I had one, I didn't "dream" anything in that moment, but I literally thought I was either already dead or dying. Couldn't move a finger. I never was so terrified in my life. I truly believed in that moment, I was never going to move again, and just die in my bed. All the other ones were clear visions of people (or anything else more monstrous) in front of me, but nothing was as scary as that first time.

      I've never had sleep paralysis. Only ever one time, I think, maybe more when I was younger that I don't remember, did I have a false awakening, though. Where you're not awake, but your brain is filling in a fairly accurate (but not necessarily *fully* accurate, as in my case) version of the room where you're sleeping. Your eyes are asleep, you're dreaming, but you *think* you're awake and paralyzed and can't move or act with this presence somewhere just waiting to get you.
      In my case it was under my bed or at the edge of it or something.
      The only reason I know it wasn't sleep paralysis for sure was because my bed was actually in the corner of the room where it didn't belong. I had my computer desk over there pretty much from the beginning of moving into that house with my bed in the center (because the house was a shit-hole and I didn't want to sleep next to the likely spider-infested walls).

  • @kylesanders8276
    @kylesanders8276 2 роки тому +8

    I think at ~20:00 Glenn is describing sleep paralysis. You can have carry-over audio/visual hallucinations from the dmt and other dream chemicals in the brain while your consciousness is functionally awake, but your body is still locked in paralysis (that happens so that you don't act out your dreams).
    It usually occurs when your sleep patterns are way off, and the first time it happens, if you don't know what is happening, can be scary and you may even feel like you're being abducted or something.
    I've had it a few times, but once I knew what it was I'd just wait it out until my body unlocked. Then, I have even tried to make it a game to see how quickly I can break free from it.

    My mom is Irish and Italian, and my dad is his Hispanic so I really had no choice but to be hardcore catholic. There’s a Guadalupe/Mary statue in every room of our house. I went to catholic school and I was an altar girl at mass every sunday, and catholicism is still a major part of my identity, but this year I joined a protestant/non-denominational group at my college (irish mom was not thrilled btw) and I can completely confirm what Rob is saying through my experience. Joining the group made me feel like mac on the cruise ship with the christian gays, I was so confused why my protestant group was having so much fun and I'm thinking WHERES THE FEAR OF GOD?? WHEN ARE WE REPENTING OUR SINS THROUGH PENANCE? Where’s the sadness and guilt and why are all your prayers different and nice? They usually say a very personalized prayer before every meal, just explaining to God why they are so grateful to be together, eating delicious food on a lovely day, wishing us luck on our finals, etc. you know, just very genuine. And when it was my turn to say grace it was just “blessusohlordandthesethygiftswhichweareabouttorecievefromthybountythroughchristourlordamen”*sign of the cross* Like a robot and you could just tell it was something I felt like I HAD to do. They were so confused why church felt like a chore to me, and it’s BECAUSE of how catholic mass is structured. Besides the boring homily, you hear and do the same thing once a week for your entire life. Sit, stand, sit, stand, kneel, bow, stand, kneel, hear a bunch of words you don’t understand, get the cracker and gtf out. I also credit catholicism to my low self-esteem not gonna lie. A huge part of catholic culture is humility to the point you can only assume you’re worthless. It’s all about belittling yourself and feeling like a burden to God. During mass you repeat the phrase “lord I am not worthy” so many times. The church makes me feel like I’m just a walking sin who needs to do a better job at being a servant to God. Even the pope tells us that we are not to ever feel proud. As a catholic you just feel guilty all the time for existing. However, when I’m with my protestant group they’re always reminding me “you are a beautiful child of God, made in his image, he will present you with wonderful opportunities.” In other words, I feel like Protestants know God loves them, and catholics kinda just assume he hates us. Protestants just seem more devoted, they WANT to be at church to praise god, catholics feel like they HAVE to go to church so that they don’t go to hell.

    Glenn definitely had a bout of sleep paralysis and that shit is no joke. I have one to two episodes of it every six months or so. The craziest shit you can think of happens in these episodes, and the worst part is that you definitely feel awake for all of it. You know how sometimes you can kinda tell you're in a dream, and you wake up and was like "yeah that was a dream, some of it felt real but 60% of it was bullshit"? Sleep paralysis keeps you awake but unable to move most anything but your eyes.
    It always feels like I'm trying to burst through my own skin to escape the "grasp." It happens because your body releases chemicals while you sleep so you aren't as likely to accidentally hit or kick something while you dream (it's like when you watch dogs dream, they kick a little and woof a little but not nearly as much as they are in the dream.) When you get hit with sleep paralysis, the chemicals stay kicked in but your brain (and sometimes eyes) is running into overdrive, causing you to mix reality with a dream or nightmare. And yes, the "demon sitting on your chest" that most people see is so common that it's almost a "we live in a simulation" level of conspiracy (but honestly, it's probably coincidence.)
    If this shit happens to you more than a few times in a year, talk to a doctor. It's some spooky stuff, and unlike most dreams you will vividly remember every episode for probably a few years if not a lifetime.

    Glenn - the night terror thing, I literally had the same thing happen at some point in my life. Typical night terror stuff when your brain gets mixed up so sometimes you keep dreaming with eyes open. Scary as hell even when you know exactly what's happening on a scientific/medical level.

      Its sleep paralysis. Its very common to have hypnogogic hallucinations with sleep paralysis, usually seeing or sensing a figure in the room. Medieval paintings to current sleep research.... good ol sleep paralysis.

      Yup, have similar things happen too. I'd be half asleep, trying to wake up after seeing something scary and I'd just start scream-moaning (wasn't awake enough to get a proper scream out) till my wife shook me awake. Some dreams were legit scary, others were so stupid. Eg I went into a hotel room and the staff said there were 6 pillows, but there turned out to be 7. My dreaming brain inferred the seventh pillow was a haunted ghost pillow and I started screaming, unable to move or wake up. Dreams are weird.

      yeah i been having that a lot after my mom almost dying, finding her unresponsive and her being in a coma 5 days or 6, 19 days icu just last month day after her bday... couldnt sleep well for a month so it messed me up lol lack of sleep... ive gone like 10 yrs without dreaming, now i have em every night, very vivid and intense / real, sometimes continues after i wake up / i dont wake up when normally i would e.i one dream i fell from the sky being shot up and landed in the ocean ( i cant swim and hate water ) and i didnt wake up i just started swimming, dodged a while coming up for food then made it to a river and started swimming in it lol turned into a fun dream but was very odd how i dont wake up during scary moments and dreams can even start before i feel like im actually asleep in bed... my cat doesnt help sleep lol shes huge and like 4 ft long and she wakes me up constantly trying to cuddle in with me lol or walks across my body waking me up/preventing me from falling asleep.. also shoving her head in my face to feel my breath and her hair tickles my nose hair/pushes my facial hair into my nose lol but like my mom, it was low sodium for her and since i cook for us often from scratch and we eat the same, low sodium and lot of water and we both had low sodium symptoms but her being 55 made hers get deadly, we also didnt eat much or often so ya... after adding more salts to my diet ive felt a lot better, slowly but surely back to normal lol

    Guys the entire anti masturbation stance is a misinterpretation of a biblical story of Onan. The common interpretation is that his spilling of his seed on the ground was the sin but ACTUALLY the sin was that he was doing this rather than impregnating his dead brothers wife so that the child would inherit his brothers estate. He pulled out and spilled his seed (in defiance of Gods wish) because he wanted his brothers stuff. It wasn’t the act. It was the intent.

    While sleeping on the floor at a friends house I became convinced he was going to fart on me, but i literally couldn't move my body to prevent it, I felt wide awake but was totally powerless to stop him. Meanwhile, he was of course fast asleep and had no such desires to carry out the act... I still have no idea what this says about me or my trust in my friends.

    I will say that in Ireland there's more politics in the protestant and catholic faiths. The Monarch of England is the ruler of the Cristian faith, and so protestantism was forced on Ireland during Cromwell's reign, with catholic practices being banned on pain of death, people were tortured to forsake thier religion, and priests were hunted down. So people tend to cling to Catholicism as a matter of pride and rebellion, against England who still occupy part of the country, and vice versa.
