  • This is what happens to most engines that set around with old gasoline left in the float bowl for a few years. I have poured some gasoline into the carburetor, but old gasoline tar has gummed up the fuel jet, and the engine quits running. Remove the carb and clean the parts, all passages. Electricity cycles, I set it with the vibrating indicator to 60 for my electric chain saw requires 60 cycles to run properly.

Outstanding! Thanks for showing us how to load the generator and then adjust to assure the correct frequency.

that's a good deal if all it needs is cleaning. good luck & have fun making it run like new.

I saw the jet removed, but didn’t see the emulsion tube removed and cleaned. Did I miss it? “Set voltage cycles” is a confusing phrase. Voltage and frequency are two different things. These cheap little governors may wander, giving you 58 Hz at high load, 60 Hz unloaded. I suggest setting speed governor to give you 60 Hz at the load you see most of the time. You can’t do much about the voltage regulator, though bumping up a slow machine to 60 Hz will show a slight increase on this generator.

Lane I don't remember the emulsion tube if cleaned or not, the 60 cycles and frequency would they be the same thing?

@@dadcolo yes, frequency is the “speed” of the Alternating Current. 60 cycles (60 Hertz) is normal on North America.BTW if you recall the constant 7200, you can use it to determine generator rpm to make 60 Hz or learn the number of poles on its rotor. 7200 divided by number of poles is necessary rpm for 60 cycles. 7200 divided by rpm at 60 Hz is the number of poles. Small home generators are two pole units turning 3600 rpm. Some of the large hydro units I operated have 48 poles and turn 150 rpm.

You didn’t clean the fuel passages underneath the plastic plug on top of the carburetor, the one that’s held down by the sideways plastic screw. Looks like you didn’t have any surging at start up, but if the engine was surging with its revs from high to low to high to low constantly, cleaning crud out of the fuel passages underneath that plastic plug remedies the surging problem every time. I’m here in the first place because I picked up one of these generators and I wanted to find out where those fuel hoses on the carburetor go. The two other than the main supply hose. Previous owner fouled everything up. When you removed the carburetor, and then when you reinstalled the carburetor, the other end of those hoses were out of frame both times… Just my luck😩

Looks like he didn't get the main jet beneath the jet insert either!

Could not see how you raised idle to adjust rpm up or down to dial in voltage cycles, kindly advise. Thanks

I turned the speed screw on the carb to raise or lower the rpm. Plug in the tools/lights turn them on, adjust the cycles.

Just rebuild as he did. Will work 100% of the time, just add removing the emulsion tube (it is under the "Jet" removed with the screwdriver. You just bang the cab down on wood a couple of times and the emulsion tube will fall out. Clean all the side holes of the emulsion tube out and the end holes as well. Spray with Carb Clean just as he did and you are good to go.

@@benkanobe7500 I just cleaned mine out. I thought I'd add that if you can't get it out by tapping. You can take a flat head screwdriver and gently push down on the tube from above. With the flat side of the driver. If you open the throttle and choke completely you can get the driver in one angle easily. You might have to look for it. Because there are three other angles that just won't let you in there with the driver. But mine pushed out easily once I found the right angle. The top of the tube is clearly visible in the center of the top of the carb between the choke and throttle ports. Be easy on it. It's a small tube. And definitely clean it out with the cleaner and try gently tapping the bottom of the carb, where the jet came out, on a piece of wood first. As far as a new carb. I saw one on Ebay for $89. But I've watched a lot of these vids. And have never seen anyone having to resort to buying a new one. But things do break, hehe.
