    I bought some WNS bamboo core Explorer limbs for 99 bucks. I have them on my Gillo G2. Just got into bare bow this year at 79. I sure have enjoyed it. About a 100 arrows just about every day. Really enjoy your channel , it has really helped me. Thank you.

    Designing my second bow right now. Thanks for confirming that today's mid-range priced parts are yesterday's top-shelf gear! - I am writing this right after Christmas '22 - there is so much gear marked down from just a week ago it's not even funny. Thank you also for posting this awesome content. This channel is such a rich resource!

      If u want to try something out that's new in a mid-priced limb the Nika N3 limb is a solid choice. The people that have them r buying another set so they can shoot a different poundage for indoor or outdoor. I built some new shafts recently & they were expensive ➕️ they were a hair stiff on my limbs. The N3 fit on my riser was much better than the ones I took off & I didn't need adjust for tiller or brace height. My nock on my string was also right where I needed it. Just shooting all weekend to get used to the draw cycle that's smooth all the way. Sure glad they r time tested will many people that have them who r really impressed with the look & shootability.

    Something else to keep in mind if you are looking at mid price point limbs for increasing draw weight or just to have decent materials in your limbs if you don’t have to have that certain brand sticker you can check out what lower tier brands the higher tier brands also manufacture. For instance win & win have several other brands they manufacture for and with a little research you can often find that some of the cheaper brand limbs are the former mid and top end limbs from the higher tier company rebadged and put out at a big discount just because they don’t have the big name badge on them.

    It's the age old question: is it the guitar or the guitar player; the bike or the cyclist, the clubs or the golfer.....??? Well, as a crap guitarist I can tell that I can make a $4000 guitar sound just as crappy as the $400 one I have. And when I raced bikes (as an amateur) I saw plenty of people on VERY expensive bikes get dusted by people on hand me down wrecks. Sure, at the elite level having the up-market equipment can make a difference or can be justified. But even then, sometimes it's only because of build quality and it's ability to withstand day to day, month after month, year after year abuse. With regard to archery, a good archer would take my $120 limbs and kick my @ss regardless of what type of equipment I was allowed to use.
    I'm only concentrating on form right now - I'm new to archery. I view my limbs like dumbbells. And if you ask any weightlifter they'll tell you it ain't just about being strong, you've got to have good form....especially when the weight increases.

    its incredible how far down the prices went .
    i am looking at a limb offer for 120$ its carbon foam limbs, no glasfibe no wod
    or a pair of cross carbon / foam lims for just short of 200$
    both from the biggest corean manufacturer( win&win) under the marketing name of kinetic.
    the 200$ one is tec used just 3 years ago in the best of the best limbs for a 3rd of the price....

    Hi Jake. In terms of effect on groupings at different distances, how much difference would there be between a the most expensive and the very cheapest limbs? I suspect high end limb manufacturers may not be too pleased but it would be really interesting to see the comparison of what you could shoot with each set. Thanks again for keeping the vids coming. Great work.

    So I've got a Mandarin Duck Black Hunter takedown recurve bow. For a month and a half this spring I shot 45 pound limbs made of laminated bamboo. After shooting about 10,000 arrows I moved up to 55 pound replacement limbs, again made of laminated bamboo. They cost me $77.00. The first day at 55 pounds it was clearly more difficult but I'm now shooting 1000 arrows a week at 55 pounds. I'm no Olympic champion but I guarantee you that I am accurate enough to take a whitetail deer or a bear at 30 yards. Archery season opens on October 3rd where I live and runs almost two months. I plan to be out there until I can pack my 8 cubic foot chest freezer with venison. If I can do that with the tools I've got, there's no need for expensive limbs.

    Had a set of starter limbs for a while, was looking to upgrade, but I’ve decided to stick with cheap’n’cheerfull (going up in poundage though) thanks to this video. I think I probably wouldn’t get any benefit from the latest n greatest tech anyway, simple because my form isn’t as refined as it could be. That being said, I can still dream of a nice matte carbon black finished set of Uukhas though! One day!

      Many people that have the Uukhas have bought the Nika N3 limbs & r very happy with them 😊. The look & quality is top-notch & r a real nice piece of art with the Satin finish. I needed a slightly faster limb for a new & expensive arrow build. They r fast, smooth & quiet. Much better fit in my riser than my old limbs also.

I look elsewhere for improvement , like me for instant, lots of room for improvement there and I’m free ! 😁 For the record , $500 to $600 for both riser and limbs is my limit , used is always a good option !

    Top of range and latest design might some time had design faults, There was this dark period that W&W released problematic designs like Syzergy limbs, Infinite and Expert riser, and their first generation honeycomb foam lamination. some of them didn't even make their way into the mid range after.

    As with everything you purchase there are exceptions to the rule "you get what you pay for". Granted they are far and few between but they are out there waiting to be discovered.
    I've been doing all kinds of outdoor recreational sports my whole life everything from fishing to bow hunting and everything in between. And as far as archery goes the only real good deal that broke that rule of " you get what you pay for".
    At least for me was the Tradtech Black Max 2.0 carbon/wood recurve limbs and the recently discontinued Tradtech Black Max longbow limbs. And I hope Tradtech comes out with new longbow limbs soon I have a suspicion that the manufacturer they had manufacture their longbow limbs ended the contract once they went under new ownership and that's why they're discontinued.

    so basically it makes no difference to most archers, i go for a mid range limb, and there is no need for expensive limbs, just look for build quality, then it is up to you, and your form. things that do change and make a difference are flights for your arrows, i recently changed my blazer flights to a lower profile flight and they are much better as they miss the shelf completely and give a smoother release and are better in the wind.

    I was hoping you'd touch on limb stability. I hear about it often, but not sure what it is or even if it's real or imagined. Is it vibration after the shot? Is it the ability of the limb to resists the lateral movement of the string? etc.

    • @SaneAsylum
      @SaneAsylum 4 роки тому

      In "Fundamentals of the Design of Olympic Recurve Bows" by
      Lieu, D.K. University of California, Berkeley (online in places as a free pdf) he mentions limbs as unstable till the limbs open up (are no longer recurved). You might check it out for his take. If you intentionally torque your string sideways when you draw you can see the limbs twist (which certainly is a form of instability that changes from one set to another). Also extremely recurved limbs (think Borders) would theoretically be unstable longer in the draw until the string has a direct path between the limb tips. In reality though so long as they open up at your draw length and don't close before the nock leaves the string there is and cannot be a problem (from that aspect of instability). Just my 2 cents (but maybe it takes a nickel these days)...

    • @ttneiltt1
      @ttneiltt1 4 роки тому +1

      I agree, to add my penny’s worth. I’ve built a few traditional recurves and I reckon that to get the extreme recurved limbs of border archery which gives a more efficient draw/force curve, you really need high tech materials with better torsion resistance than fibreglass, or the ability to draw and release without applying any torsion to the limbs at all (apparently incorrect draw on historical horn and sinew recurved could turn the bow inside out)With fibreglass limbs I occasionally need to correct twist with a ‘normal’ degree of recurve. Just speculating here but if your release apples any torsion to the limbs they would continue to oscillate as the arrow is propelled inducing inconsistent flight.

    Hey Jake I have a pse coyote 45lb recurve and one of the limbs delamination while shooting an arrow. I have reglued it and it still works fine however I was looking to replace them with a heavier poundage limb maybe to 55lb. Do you know where I can get replacements from as I have been to archery dealers and haven't had much success with them.

      I wanted to ask Jake what He thinks about Uukha limbs. I have the #40 Tuulai, which are entry level with %25 of carbon fiber and the top of the line are 100% carbon fiber. I saw a lot of barebow archers using Uukhas at regional tournaments in my contry and seems that they are becoming very popular at this discipline.

    • @BlasterKotakatik
      @BlasterKotakatik 4 роки тому +1

      @@Buran01 Good thing about Uukha limbs is that they don't risk delamination like conventional limbs design. Also from my experience high end Uukha limbs like the VX+ have a let off kinda feel at the back end so when I shot it using a clicker getting through it was far more easier as it didn't stack like conventional limbs. As for the XX limbs that one is designed for people who prefer the feel of conventional limbs.

    A lot was talked about materials, and marketing, but as far as I could tell, the only advantage of expensive limbs are that you get the same arrow speed with a slightly lower draw weight due to the high modulus carbon. I have only just started archery (at 66 yrs) and bought a complete recurve for £63 including riser! I suppose that would be considered ultra budget. But to my limited shooting experience (8 metres to hit the boss), it feels great.
