  • Members had a roaring good time last night as we celebrated the museum's 3rd anniversary and revealed a very spectacular car to the museum’s permanent collection, a 1925 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Salamanca collapsible! The Roaring 20s was a time of prosperity, glamour, and the “Golden Age” of Hollywood. This elegant 1925 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Salamanca encompasses all of that and more. Originally owned by silent movie stars Rod LaRocque and Vilma Banky, it was later acquired by Warner Bros. studio where it made several appearances in movies including “Blood Alley” with John Wayne. Built in Springfield, Massachusetts this was one of the most expensive bodies available on the Rolls-Royce chassis and is the only known left-hand drive Salamanca collapsible in existence. The striking Rolls-Royce grille and radiator were handmade using German silver and is crowned by the signature Rolls-Royce “Spirit of Ecstasy” hood ornament. The chauffeurs stately open-air front compartment is separated from the luxurious passenger cabin by a divider with retractable glass. The passenger cabin can be completely enclosed or by folding the top back, opened to the stars. Personal luxury appointments include a microphone for communicating with the driver, a vanity, clock, light switch, and mirror for the lady, and a cigar lighter and ashtray for the gentleman. This beautiful Rolls-Royce is now on display at the Midwest Dream Car Collection for your enjoyment.

This car is fabulous. I have one and it is my daily driver here in Texas. They were so well made and durable that we can still drive them 100 year later.

I can't imagine the total hours spent in the restoration or this amazing automobile a true work of art and of the highest level of restoration I have ever seen.

Very well presented. I really, really appreciate the attention to, and explanation of the little details. I work as a mechanic with a love for antique cars, and I enjoy trying to visualize the mechanisms behind every little feature and control. And wow, that engine (like most luxury cars from the era) is a work of art. Thanks for making the time to create this video.

No doubt my father worked on the upholstery on this car as he was an upholsterer for RR in Springfield.

I would have expected a 1925 Ghost to be right hand drive. I thought they didn't prooduce left hand drive until 1927 but I must be mistaken. Our family has 3 ghosts and used to have a Springfield Phantom Dinsdale but that has been sold.
