The house's story was almost as old as the town of Superior itself, founded in the 1890s when coal was king in the area.
It was built in 1910 - when William Howard Taft was president, when the Titanic was being constructed. It was part of a cluster of housing for coal miners, and at one point served as a brothel for the workers, the property's rental manager said.
Now the house at 101 Coal Creek Drive is gone, destroyed by the Marshall Fire.
About all that was visible on the site on Jan. 2, poking up through a blanket of snow, were a charred washer, a dryer, a refrigerator and a chimney.
"111 years of history, now gone. Very sad," said Robin, the property manager, who asked that her last name not be used.

Robin certainly handled seeing her house destroyed better than most people. Sorry your lovely little house is gone. The stories will remain at least. As for fire skipping certain houses, I think that we need to spend more money researching why some houses survive and many don't. Her words of wisdom, "Everybody needs a have plan" ring true. Not only where to evacuate, but what you have ready to take with you. Let's hope that we learn from this and life gets better. Blessings.

This was an every 25 or 50 year storm like the Kentucky tornados a few weeks ago. Not much could withstand this.

Very strange, she's sad with a big grin on her face.
I've noticed, not one person interviewed who lost their home and ALL of thier belongings shed any tears, not one. Just straight faces and no emotion, that's unusual.

I work in this neighborhood and can attest that there was some legitimate loss. The twelve tribes origin of the fire seems fishy, however.

People deal with grief and loss their own way. Especially after such a shock of losing everything.

@@brandnewty Have you been able to see first hand the damage? Have you seen the melted car rims into puddles or streams of metal? Even from cars on the street away from fuels. I’ve studied these fires for the last 5 years and there are so many oddities. The pattern is the same in many of them and the media and first responders only response is that it was dry and windy conditions that were responsible. Check out videos with fences. You’ll see that the burning takes place where the nails go into the rails and posts instead of burning up the fence. Raises lots of questions for me. I’d love to hear about things you see there. Enjoy the day!

When complete subdivisions are burned down... There is something wrong with the system. After major disaster events, building codes are changed. I am hoping everyone is forced to use different materials when rebuilding. They have done plenty of studies on what material is more resistant and subdivisions should have basic rules like no mulch around the homes, only rock. Or all trees/bushes must be 50 feet from your home and sprinkler systems installed in every yard. The town should upgrade their water towers to supply enough water pressure to everyone's homes so they can all have the taps on at the same time watering their yards and spraying down their homes.

Great advice. You must be a fireman or a building inspector.

Unfortunately most people probably had their outside water winterized. So no sprinklers or hoses.

What happens if you can't afford to rebuild or you are still paying a mortgage? Who rehomes the families who have lost everything? I live in the UK so wooden structures are not seen anywhere, every living accommodation are brick built.
